So I hit Redding roughly once every 3 months. The steakhouses available leave me whelmed. As in neither over nor under. Cattlemens is available a few hundred feet from my home and has been awful ever since the new owners took over. So I have a company credit card that pays for my meals. Lumberjack is Amazing for breakfast and lunch, but Redding suck when it comes to steaks. Third visit I asked the exceptionally attractive girl at the front desk of the Holiday Inn Express where did she recommend? Massive points for not recommending the shitty overpriced place next door, or the even shittier, even more overpriced place on the other side. She sent me to Grand Buffet. OMG! Hugh recommend that you DO NOT waste your time or money or tastebuds at this locations. We are for the weekend visiting from out of town we're hungry and decided run give this place a try. Well That was a huge mistake!!! We arrived around 7:15 PM. The barely had any food available and what they did have was dried and old that had been sitting her all day. The calamari was so dried that it tasted like rubber, the fried shrimp was dried and hard to chew, the stuff mushroom was crispy dried, the chicken wings tasted it we siting there since the day before, the pasta smelled like sour milk, and even the salads were all wilted. When I sent to complain to the girl at the register (who also seated us) she said the food was cooked today but we just slow so it sit there. She kept argued with me that the food was good and even took over to the shrimp as I told that it tasted old and dried. She then proceed to pick up a spoon to move it around and say it was cooked today it's good. This place doesn't deserve a single star. You had many seven select that were bad and the rest they didn't bother to make more food and yet still charge the customers full price. I told the register girl that I wasn't going to pay full price so the. Then said I can give you 15% off but yet insisted the they cooked their food today and it was food. My wife and I have been going to Grand Buffet for quite a few years and have had no real complaints until the last year or so. Tonight was the final straw the food had been getting of lesser quality very slowly and tonight was the worst food that we have had. Items that should have been hot were cold most of the items were old like from lunch. Meats were so over cooked it was like jerkey. Crab so over cooked it was almost impossible to get the meat out of the shell. I don't know that I we'll be returning because $45 for that lousy of food its definitely not worth it. read more

My children and I went there for dinner. It was around 5:00pm. The food was old and semi cold. The shrimp and crab would liquefied as soon as it enters your mouth. The taste was gross. Now with all that goodness, let me be honest, you can't also expect waiters to wait on you. That would be hands down unreasonable. I have been eating here for nearly 10 years and I have never had a bad meal. When in Redding, it is still my go to place. The manager is not very friendly but the rest of the staff are pleasant and attentive. Despite what I have read here, the food is always fresh. I have never experienced anything that seemed like leftovers from the previous day. The restaurant is clean and the food is replenished frequently. Unfortunately they don't serve crab any more. When I mentioned the dirty conditions, someone did come by with a broom and dust pan, but until I pointed out the many areas that were dirty, they were not addressing them. A really good cheap asian buffet. For 10 dollars, they offer a large selection of items. They offer sushi, chinese food, some american items. fruit, deserts, and beverages. The buffet was constantly maintained. The interior and bathroom were clean and nice. The have a huge indoor Koi pond that is well maintained with big healthy fish. The food was fine. Some good and some mediocre items. The sushi was OK. However, sushi rice was not a fresh as I wanted to be, but they did offer a large selection of items with some unusual ingredients (such as the salmon and cream cheese sushi roll). I think they made too much sushi. Moreover, this restaurant was proclaimed as the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the U.S. by the Chinese restaurant News Magazine, a prominent trade publication for aspirating Asian restauranteurs. Everything from the orange chicken to the fried shrimp to the won tons and egg rolls was HARD AND INEDIBLE!!!! My family and I went to the Redding Grand Buffet for Chinese food because we went there a long time ago and we thought it had good food. As we walked inside, I smelled so many mixtures of delicious food right away. There was ALSO fish. We were seated at a table somewhere in the middle of a dining room and the waitress offered us drinks. I wanted to sit at the edge where it's less noisy but they like seating you in the middle of the room. The price of going there is like 17 dollars per adult. The Grand Buffet has a giant room with a lot of food and other separate rooms for eating. The dining rooms could be a bit bigger. As soon as we got situated, we went off to the buffet and grabbed our dishes of food. We got a lot of food and forced down as much as we could. They let you stay there for hours just resting at your table and enjoying the food. There were rugs on the walls so there were a lot fewer echoes which made it a lot quieter, which is Great! The chairs and tables are very fancy and there is Chinese art on the walls. They have veggie rolls, buns, chicken kebabs, Orange Chicken, chow mein, shrimp, sushi, other seafood, fruit, and a whole bunch more. It even has desserts like cookies, jelo, strawberry cake, ice cream, and way way more!!! You're in luck if you get garlic bread. Honestly, all of their desserts could improve like the cookies and cake but the ice cream tasted great. The goal when you eat at the Grand Buffet is to have as little as possible of each food. You need to eat as much food as you can before you get too full to eat more. It's quite a hard game since there are so many different types of food. That's why I love buffets more than regular restaurants. Buffets let you eat anything you want and as much as you want, but restaurants just give you one main meal and aside and that's it. My overall experience of the Grand Buffet was very positive. I really want to have the food they make there every day. I love how long they let you stay and eat their food. Great variety with reasonable price. Generous dine-in hours and tables are well-spaced out to avoid overcrowding during this Covid pandemic. Carpeted flooring, although not the cleanest, doesn't affect our dining experience. Food is frequently replenished to ensure freshness and sufficiency. Some dishes are really delicious, e.g. jalapeno chicken, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef. The soups are quite salty but tasty. There's also a salad and sushi bar. Went here regardless of the bad reviews and have to say that this was a really good buffet for the price you pay. Not like a buffet for $60 in Las Vegas, but you only pay ~$13.50 and if you are a senior (over60) they seem to give a %10 discount. Tuesday is senior day based on the signs I saw. Anyway, they had a salad station with DIY greens, other veggies, croutons etc. then some ready made salads with shrimp, macaroni, crab (imitation), cucumber, beans and some other options I forgot. They had a sushi station which was decent- some rolls some nigiri with ahi tuna, salmon, eel, shrimp and i believe yellow tail(?). Rolls were like California roll, spicy tuna, veggie roll, Philadelphia and others. The magnolias grill was ok, lots of veggie options and noodles but only chicken and pork as meat options. Which I was most excited about was the seafood selection! They had crab legs which were often replenished (despite the fact that some people took 6 or so clusters each time they went), fried shrimp in shell (yum!), clams, baked (?) oysters a variety of other ready made American Chinese dishes like orange chicken, Mongolian beef, chicken broccoli, also some vegetarian options like book Choy, mushrooms, and of course fried rice, noodle dishes, variety of dishes sum (pork buns, Chinese buns, etc.), the soups that I tried were great - wonton and sweet and sour. Don't always like the wontons but these were good. Sweet and sour sauce was a bit spicy but still good with lots of tofu and mushrooms. They also had miso and eggdrop soup. Couple of fried options like fried chicken, shrimp, egg rolls, crab cheese wontons, sweet and sour chicken, sesame balls with red bean paste, donuts (Chinese),... for dessert I had apple pie with vanilla soft serve. Omg! It was delish! The apple pie crust was really good and lots of apples (didn't look that good in the pan but so glad I got some). Else they had cheese cake, some other chocolate cake, banana pudding, chocolate pudding, jello and fruit (watermelon and honey Melon). So I didn't list everything they had when I went but most of it. I saw some complained about the veggie options but honestly thought they had a good amount... They also had pizza and garlic bread... it was a bit warm in there so they had an extra fan on. Granted, it was 112F outside!!! The server could have refilled water a bit more frequently but else it was good. They did bring the bill early as mentioned by others but weren't rushed out or anything. Other places do the same thing. So I guess they just do it so you don't have to wait. read more

I understand that as a vegetarian when I go places there might be less options. But no one even understood what the word vegetarian meant. One person directed me to the crab. After asking the 4th person, I was told I could eat rice. Yay. All the food looked and tasted oily and disgusting. I couldn't even stomach the oil dipped green beans. The salad choices were wilted iceberg lettice or wilted arrugula. I didn't know iceberg could wilt, but apparently it can... I tried bites of what I could and it made me want to vomit.
