Tucked away in a charming courtyard, Grand Coeur makes a strong first impression. My companion and I were immediately taken by its inviting terrace and the overall ambiance -- a blend of urban calm and bohemian charm. Before dinner, we took a yoga class in the shared cultural space above the restaurant, a vibrant venue alive with music and movement from various dance classes. It created a truly unique, if unconventional, pre-dinner atmosphere.
However, the same charm became a drawback during our meal. Seated outdoors in the courtyard, what began as a serene environment soon became uncomfortably loud. Music and rhythmic stomping from the classes above poured through open windows, disrupting what could have been a tranquil dining experience.
Service was a highlight: warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our server thoughtfully advised on wine pairings and was gracious when we learned the kitchen had only one portion left of their evening special -- a gazpacho starter followed by a cream-based fish broth, and a main of bouillabaisse. To accommodate us, the server allowed us to split the meal.
Visually, the dishes were well-presented. The gazpacho was a standout: light, creamy, and bursting with fresh, balanced flavor. Unfortunately, the fish broth that followed was far less enjoyable -- the taste was unpleasant, and the texture clashed with its promise. Disappointingly, the same broth was used as the base for the bouillabaisse, which lacked the variety and richness we associate with the dish. Instead of a medley of shellfish and seafood, it featured only white fish and potatoes -- a stark departure from tradition.
Though the concept and setting of Grand Coeur are appealing, and the service commendable, the food -- particularly the fish dishes -- fell flat. Coupled with the disruptive noise during dinner, we left with more disappointment than delight.
Verdict: Great setting and service, but the food and ambiance did not meet expectations. Regretfully, we cannot recommend this restaurant. read more
