I was here for a special group dinner, so I got to experience what the chefs at Grand Cafe could do. They went a little off-menu, but they really put their foot in it, so to speak. We started with corn and brat chowder, which was the best chowder I've ever tasted, and it set the bar high for the rest of the meal. This was followed by a melon salad, then a cheese raviolo that smelled incredibly funky, but tasted mild. It was like a pasta magic trick. The main event was braised short ribs, followed by dessert, which was a honey cake made will all kinds of honey elements: honey comb, honey brittle, honey gel, honey cream, and inexplicably, avocado. Every single course was amazing, but honestly, the chowder was my favorite. I don't know if they serve a chowder on the regular menu, but if they do, you definitely need to get it. We sat on the patio, which overlooked the beautiful grounds of Grand Geneva Resort. This place is immaculate! The service is also top-notch. This is a great restaurant, and I would suggest that if there is something on the menu that's special or chef-imagined, you should get it. The chefs here really know what they're doing. read more

The view here is lovely. We had breakfast on our last day. It was a slow morning and we asked to be seated on the patio/veranda. They did, however were not given a place-setting. The coffee was poured and we still didn't have anything to stir with. The menu has some standard breakfast choices but I prefer to order egg dishes a la cart as I don't eat meat (which was not on the menu). One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! I ordered the Kick'N Chick'N Sandwich, which came with perfectly fried chicken, Kick'N Sauce, dill pickles, lettuce, and pickled onions. Despite the name, I was expecting a bit more spice, but even without the heat, it was incredibly juicy and crispy--absolutely amazing. The fries were delicious, too! We visited the Grand Café in February 2023 and had their seafood boil and prime rib dinner for 2 on Valentine's Day weekend. The service was very good. Natalia was our server for the evening and did a great job taking care of us. I believe her manager did his rounds as well and popped in to say hello. The food was nice although I have a few suggestions. *The prime rib was delicious but was served at room temp. It could've been better if it were served hot. *I would've liked to have more horseradish. *The dinner rolls were unfortunately hard and stale. They recently did an interior refresh but the bones of the building are showing their age. Overall, we had a decent meal and if you're in the area looking to step up your dinner game the Grand Café is a good choice. read more

Absolutely disappointing. This used to be one of my favorite spots in Lake Geneva, so I brought my family of six here for a weekend getaway--unfortunately, I left feeling embarrassed that I had taken them. The entire experience has changed drastically since my last visit. The variety of food was lacking, the Saturday night prime rib dinner was poor in quality, and the service was slow and inattentive. What should've been a special evening turned into a huge letdown. I went back and forth in my head about paying the bill but didn't want to make a fuss as my server seemed already overwhelmed. We spent over $500, and it felt completely wasted. We were so unsatisfied that we ended up ordering pizza after we left. Had breakfast here one Saturday morning while staying at the resort. We didn't get downstairs until almost 11 but opted to do the buffet. It was good! I wouldn't say it was great. I had an omelette and my boyfriend opted for the prepared scrambled eggs and bacon. It was convenient since it was on site, but of the places we ate at the resort this was my least favorite of them all. It was a little messy as they had probably been busy before we arrived. The only reason this place gets a 2 star is because of our server. I would give it zero if it wasn't for her. I didn't catch her name but she was blonde and told us she worked as a server for a while, she was so nice and understanding, absolutely nothing wrong with her service, great server. We were greeted by 2 hosts who didn't seem to care about anything, actually throughout the night one of them had a mouth full of food and didn't even greet the customers standing right there, instead just walked away and talked a friend? And someone had to go find this host to get her to give a table to these people. Anyway, they sat us at genuinely the worst table known to man, people had to say EXCUSE ME to even walk through, we ended up moving the table by scooting it ourselves after asking to move different tables multiple times. No one even could come back to say I'm sorry we cannot move your table. I totally understand restaurants and how they are busy and cannot accommodate everyone but this table genuinely should not exist. Kids were running everywhere which is not the restaurants fault but imagine a grubby kid hitting you and bumping your shoulder because they are running through the tiniest gap possible. Once we got our dinner it was ice cold, we were starving so i ate most of mine and my date ate mine to because his was inedible. If you are looking for a quiet evening don't go here this place sucks. My wife and I came here during our weekend getaway in Lake Geneva. We chose a Saturday night dinner buffet for $45 per person. The buffet has a decent amount of food selection including hand cut prime ribs, pork chops, salmon in a cream sauce, several hit side dishes, a variety of cheeses and fruits, small salad bar, shrimp cocktail, 5-6 types of mini deserts, etc. If the price was $30, I would give 5 starts, but the quality is not there for the $45 buffet. I want to tell you about my experience at the Grand Cafe. We were seated and if was extremely cold. We wanted to move tables and told our waiter he said as soon as they stop opening the door it will get better it never did. We ordered apple juice he said they were out and did not offer any substitutions. We ordered the Tuna appetizer we were told they were out of the crispy rice so they were not preparing it. We asked if we could get the tuna appetizer from one if their other restaurants they said no, they don't do that. The server said the best way to get food is the buffet because the kitchen was taking forever. At that point we asked to see a manager. Carl Lawrenze came over said the kitchen was all if the sudden magically preparing the tuna appetizer for us. We asked to move tables, we were told there was one in the front and we could move, so we did. We ordered buffet fot a 6 and 10 year old The babies 2 and 1 were no charge. The buffet food was equivalent to bad hospital food. The steaks that we ordered came out in about 15 minutes they were cold and over cooked (med well when we ordered med rare) , the french fries were cold and the butter carrots consisted of 3 baby carrots. We sent back the steak entrees. The tuna appetizer never came. The manager returned saying wow this has just been a horrible experience tonight. He took the steak meals we did not eat off the bill and brought back a bill for $85. 3 kiddie cocktails, 2 kids buffet, and 2 cocktails. He then gave us his card and said to ask for him next time we come back? The only seafood was mussels, chopped salmon and shrimp which was next to other food and cross contaminated being next to shellfish for those with allergies. My husband picked this place as he didn't want to leave the resort for dinner and I had t looked into it. We we got there the hostess explained to us about the buffet. Never did she mention it was a $40 buffet, I knew it would be pricey because it had prime rib but wasn't expecting that due to the quality and lack of food on the buffet. Also, never was I told it had a menu to order from until I saw others doing so and it was too late by then. Also, $10 for my 2 year old to eat a couple pickles and cheese bites, ridiculous. Now the food, a prime rib buffet, yeah but it wasn't good. It was cold and so fatty, not a very tender prime rib and the horseradish might as well have been mayonnaise, it had no flavor. The rest of the buffet was a bad charcuterie board, humus, no bread? They were missing many utensils to pick up items with so people were mixing and dripping in containers, etc.... This is the only good restraunt in grand Geneva. Seriously out of all the steaks I've had in my life the 7oz filet mignon was the best I've ever had, especially for its price. I was at Grand Geneva Resort for a 3 day convention and ate at the Grand Cafe twice.- once for lunch, once for supper. Had a Salmon BLT for lunch. Cold, tasteless and served on soggy Wonder bread that was falling apart before I tried to pick it up. The fries were likewise cold and soft - tasted like they had been sitting under a low grade heat lamp for most of the morning. The next day, we went back for the Dinner Buffet. The selection of food was one step above a Peoria Best Western Motel continental buffet breakfast and the quality of the food was on par with it. It's pretty much the hotel lobby restaurant that's open all day, while the fancy restaurants only open for dinner. Due to covid there's no breakfast buffet, but you can still order from the menu and dine in. They seat every other table and the tables are pretty spaced out. This is my go to place for a quick meal before heading out for the day. Salads and sandwiches are good and portions are large. Give them a try for a casual breakfast or lunch in the hotel. read more

I went here with my mom when we went to the Lake Geneva Craft Fair (which was just okay), but after walking the fair all day, we stopped to grab a bite to eat here. I thought that it was over all very decent food. I ordered a simple Caesar salad without chicken and my mom ordered the French onion soup and a sandwich. And a cup of coffee. The Caesar salad was very tasty. The sandwich was huge. The reason for the 3 stars is that the service was very slow and they did not seem too busy.. There are so other restaurants in the area that this is simply a waste of time and money. Our server was fantastic! None of our issues were her fault. We dined on Saturday night when they had a seafood boil. DON'T EAT IT!!!! For $60 a person and three of us got it. We each got one shrimp, one sausage and 2 crab legs each. The prime rib was dry, well done and gross. The crab was precooked and warmed and you couldn't crack the crab legs. The meat inside was shriveled. The rolls were hockey pucks. There was no flavor on the food. The only flavor was in the veggies. We asked for more shrimp and those were dry and unseasoned. While they did comp us some off the meal, it just wasn't worth the time. Another guest in our group had the dinner buffet. The variety was good. The food fresh but there were gnats and bugs flying around it and was unappetizing. Go elsewhere! read more

My son (3 yr) and I stopped into the Grand Geneva for a day trip and we had the chance to grab lunch at the Grand Café. We arrived at the Host stand at 11:26am. I asked if they were serving lunch yet and they said lunch begins at 11:30am but they would gladly seat me and let me order from the lunch menu. The Hostess sat us by a window overlooking the lake and pool behind the resort. Our server came quickly and was very friendly, especially to my son. He ordered pizza and French fries; I ordered a grilled cheese and French fries. Rolls were brought out to the table as soon as they were ready and the food came out in the perfect amount of time. Everything tasted great and the cost was only about $20 for the two of us. The dining room was very nice, comfortable, and bright. Windows in the back of the restaurant look out over the pool and lake. It was definitely a perfect place for us to grab lunch before heading home. read more

We stayed at the Timberridge Lodge and Waterpark, but there Smokey's BBQ sampler wasn't our thing that night. So we headed to the Grand Cafe knowing that there indeed was a Saturday buffet (seafood + prime rib), and that it was $30 a head with $10 for my daughter who is 4. Service was great and out of the five additional entrées I'd say there were two strong choices for me. (sugar cane skewered grilled shrimp and baked sweet potatoes with sweet topping). The pork loin and chicken entrees were a little dry. But with two solids put together with the prime rib (freshly sautéed mushrooms, au jus, horseradish cream or straight up horseradish). Peel and eat shrimp (a little tasteless) but the crab legs (salty near the body end), better down the legs. Fresh bread and refillable soft drinks/ice tea, and window side view of the back forest and the pool as the sun went down were nice touches. Dessert table offered chocolate cupcakes that did the job (maybe the chocolate cake even better?). Rice crispy treats and an assortment of things you can run through their chocolate fountain. The kids entrées where stationed at a low table where children could serve themselves. Here the fries and the chicken fingers were a little soggy (not much taste either), but the star here funny enough were the PBJs that were cut into serrated crustless squares or sealed half rounds. So for us who wanted to stay at the resort, and still make it back for storytime in the Lodge lobby, this was a treat with convenience. My boyfriend and I made reservations for New Year's Eve for dinner. It was our first time there and the only thing was offer there was the 4 course dinner for $85 per person. Which we didn't know we couldn't order from the regular menu. We ordered each course that was offered. For the entree, we chose the Prime Rib. When the entree came, each of us got the end of the prime rib which was covered with salt. Not only that, both was well done, we were not asked how we want it done when we gave the waitress our order. My boyfriend had to ask for sauce to try to eat his dry out prime rib. When he got the sauce, that too was salty. Our bill came to be $227 that night which was ridiculous because we were so disappointed with our meal. 20% Gratuity was automatically add onto our bill. We didn't mind paying it if both our prime rib was medium rare. We both agreed that we won't be going back next New Year's Eve there for dinner. After that night, we never went there for breakfast the next morning since they also serve breakfast there. read more

I had the crab pot pie which sounds good when you read it, but it was actually disgusting. It was very mushy and had a fishy taste/smell to it..so bad that I didn't want to order any type of seafood from the hotel again. This is going to be another LONG review! I'm not sure I'm capable of doing short ones but I feel like I owe this one an especially long one because I am VERY late in posting it! The only reason it has taken me so long to get this done has been due to health issues which is EXTREMELY unfortunate because, sadly, I have forgotten the names of the incredibly wonderful staff that we had the great fortune to come into contact with during that visit! My husband actually took me here in celebration of my birthday on March 2nd as they had a wonderful special that night on their buffet of Prime Rib AND Crab Legs and I absolutely LOVE BOTH! LOL! I have been meaning to post this review ever since then because, as you can see from the 5 stars I have awarded, I had an amazingly wonderful experience! There IS one staff member/server who's name I know and I only know hers because, after I got done crying from the sweetness of the gesture of her bringing me a single red rose and a decently sized (enough to share with my husband and daughter) beautifully decorated piece of carrot cake, my daughter and I took pictures with her! I will be trying to include the pictures of the carrot cake and the pictures of the server, Cindy, along with this review! She was absolutely amazing and so kind and caring! She was worried about whether or not I would like the carrot cake...because, of course, not everyone does like carrot cake! In a way, she was correct to be concerned because it has to be done right for me to like it! I can't stand when I get a piece that has huge chunks of undercooked carrots! Let me tell you...the carrot cake at the Grand Cafe is to die for! We ended up taking it home with us instead of eating it there. I was supposed to share it with my daughter (since my husband didn't want any) but I was secretly Glad that her issues at school gave me the excuse to enjoy every last bite of it myself! LOL! I even told my husband that we HAD to go back there JUST FOR more of that delicious carrot cake because it was the absolute BEST that I have had in my life! I'm drooling just thinking about it now! I truly wish I could remember the names of the other servers, and their manager (who I spoke with on their behalf), we had the absolute pleasure to deal with. I believe that, when our original server went on break, the server from another section filled in for her and he was just as amazing as she was! He ALSO noticed that I had been waiting for someone to come back and man the buffet section because I was ready for some crab legs &, rather than going to get the buffet person, he told me to go ahead and grab the crab legs and HE steamed them FOR me! I should mention that we got there pretty late so, by the time I was ready for crab legs, there weren't many diners left and I'm guessing that they went ahead and sent home some of the staff as well because it seemed like there were a lot less people around altogether! However, after the server steamed the crab legs, the buffet guy returned to his station so I'm guessing that he was just on a break and the servers were expected to fill in. The other diners seemed to know this and, after speaking with some of them, I found out that they were regulars for this buffet! I did not have to stand at the crab station for more than a few seconds before the server noticed and came up to me, though, so that's I didn't drop off any stars for the unmanned buffet station! They, clearly, have their jobs well understood and take care to cover breaks quite well! I would absolutely LOVE to go back! Yes, for the carrot cake... but ALSO for the whole buffet again! Only next time I will not keep my family waiting & make us get there so late again! As I said in the beginning...my health hasn't been the best so, although our original reservation was for 7pm, we had to call and push our reservation for later twice...which, despite this being a popular buffet and on a Saturday night, was yet another thing they were wonderfully kind and accommodating about! Went for dinner and was overall very disappointed we had a reservation but nevertheless there was not a table ready and we had to rearrange furniture so that we could all sit together. The food took an inexcusably long time to come out and was overall not good. Furthermore, everyone at the table's food came out at different times with extremely long waits in between. Everything was pretty bland and the portions were small for the price point. Our sever Kaitlin although clearly inexperienced was kind and apologetic for the delay, she was the only reason this restaurant didn't get one star. The prime rib was good and it was dipped generously in aujus before serving. I had two helpings of that. Plus they offered two selection of fish (trout and catfish) and one selection of chicken. The trout was great. They also have 4 selections of pasta salad and a salad bar. Now the selection was a bit small but the food quality made up for it. We were searching for a dining place to go with our kids. I kept looking at reviews but was hesitant about heading over to the famous Popeye's restaurant as some the reviews were not so good and even said they were overpriced. So we decided to head over to the casual dining area of the Grand Geneva, the Grand Cafe. The staff was very nice. It wasn't very crowded, which is good for us because we have two little kids. They didn't have a big menu, however, they did have enough items where I had to deliberate between items a little bit. I ended up getting the Oriental Chicken Salad and my husband got the Steakburger and Sweet Potato fries. We split entrees, the salad was good, not the best asian chicken salad, but it will suffice. I tell you this, if you want a REAL good Asian Chicken Salad and you're in Chicago head right over to Pazzo's you will not be disappointed. Ok back on track, the burger and fries were decent. Not the best I've ever had but good enough and the sweet potato fries were pretty tasty. They had a pretty big menu for kids which was nice. They offered an activity page and crayons for the kids. As well, kids under 3 eat for free! Our waiter Stephen was super duper nice too. We had two meals here during our stay at the Grand Geneva - lunch when we arrived and breakfast the next morning. Lunch was by far the better of the two meals. Don't get the kettle chips on the side though, because I'm pretty sure they were out of a bag. Sweet potato fries were underdone and slightly soggy as well. The main part of our meals were both tasty though. Service was slightly lackluster. Husband needed a drink refill and I could hear our server talking to another server behind me instead of helping him. Slightly disappointing. Breakfast definitely left something to be desired. Service was MUCH better here, but the buffet food was simply buffet style food. The bacon was greasy, breakfast potatoes were just flat out cold, and the rest of the options were just not worth the $17.95 per person. I don't think the selection warranted that price tag either. "Made to order" waffles from the kitchen during the week, doesn't allow for the creativity you get on the weekends, another reason why I'm not a huge fan of the buffet. The plated meal the table next to us had looked good. If you're going to have breakfast, go that way! You'll probably have a better meal and pay less. If you're looking for convenience, this may be a good option, but if you have the time, head downtown for the many good options! read more
