We stayed here before our trip on the Grand Canyon railway. It is a large hotel, very well kept. The lobby has lots of train memorabilia. Everybody we dealt with at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The amenities include an indoor pool and spa, a fitness center, a meeting/Event center, a business center, a pub, a restaurant, and the Grand Canyon railway depot is right on the grounds of the hotel. We did not eat in the restaurant, so I can not speak for the food. You can purchase and all you can eat breakfast buffet. As part of your package for around $20 each, but we did not partake. It was your typical hotel, the room was bright and clean, the beds were very comfortable, the TV got a lot of cable channels, and the Wi-Fi worked very well. For the two of us, with a military /veterans discount, it was approximately $650. For that, we got a room for the night, an upgraded train ticket with the "Vista dome" car, and a bus tour of the Grand Canyon, including a very good all you can eat buffet lunch, and time to wander around Grand Canyon Village after the bus tour before the train came back. The price was high, but for all we got for two of us, it was reasonable. Thank you for a great stay. read more

Honestly, there are better in the area. We typically book directly, but this time did not. We were using booking.com to see all the prices and find a good place with a pool. This seemed like a big spot in the area so we booked. Now, I'm not sure if there are any King beds, or maybe all were taken, but we got a 2 Queen beds room but needed a King at least. So sleep wasn't the greatest for the 2 of us needing to share a bed. After we got all together and dressed for the pool, we called to see what time it closed to find out it's closed for refurb. Now, since we booked through someone else, this was not told or written down. However, checking the hotel's direct site, they did indeed have this listed. So just a miss for us and if we would have known, would not have stayed here as the child in our group was promised a pool everywhere we stayed during our trip. The toilet paper? It's rough! So be prepared if you're used to bidets or soft toilet paper.... It's a quaint place, but I recommend doing more research and maybe stay elsewhere. read more

We had an amazing stay at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel! We booked the One-Bedroom Suite. The theming was well done; the room was full of train decor, including the wallpaper. The living room area was very spacious, with a couch, a desk, and a kitchenette (including a mini-fridge and a microwave). Our room had a small patio connected to our living room, which had no view, but was nice for fresh air. The room also had plenty of closet space for our belongings. My only complaint about this hotel was that the foot of the beds had a motion-sensored light that we could not figure out how to turn off. The hotel offered three restaurants. We enjoyed Spenser's for late night cocktails, and their little cafe for breakfast. The hotel is located pretty centrally in the town of Williams. It was super easy to walk to most restaurants and attractions in the town. The hotel is also located a short distance from a Safeway grocery store, where we were able to buy some snacks and drinks for our stay. The hotel has a massive gift shop with tons of high-quality merchandise, and indoor pool, and some photo opportunities with trains. read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel! The rooms were clean, updated, and comfortable. They're not fancy, but they have everything you need, and everything was well maintained. The pool was great and a nice way to relax after a day of exploring. Mostly positive experience. Hotel is clean and rooms are nice. The property is HUGE and you can expect to do a lot of walking from your room to the restaurants or train depot or gift shop of pool or.... you get the point. The beds though leave a lot to be desired. We stayed two nights and did not get a solid night of sleep either time. We utilized both restaurants. Spensers was not great, they have me a salad with wilted brown lettuce and a martini that was awful. With a 1800's mahogany bar like that, y'all need a better bartender. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating though. Fred Harvey buffet was abismal and would not recommend. Staff was great, but food, even the turkey and Mac n cheese while under heat lamps was cold. My biggest beef comes from the website saying there was a children's playground on site. I knew I wanted to use this before we got on the road. The property is huge so I had to ask where it was and was pointed to the far edge of the property by the front desk clerk. I walked 3 wild kids out there (10 minute walk) and imagine our disappointment to see the entire thing wrapped in old, sun faded caution tape. Wth. Why didn't the front desk clerk or website mention that? Annoying. Positives: clean and safe, lots of parking, train was fantastic, gift shops are well stocked, quality soap/lotion/shampoo in the rooms, coffee in the lobby, beautiful, comfortable lobby. Con: front desk not knowledgeable, playground closed, tons of walking if you have mobility issues in your group (we had elderly person), beds are awful, restaurants leave a lot to be desired. read more

Great place to stay and visit the south rim of the grand canyon. We purchased the package deal that included the train ride to the grand canyon and it was awesome! We stayed in the Suite with a hide a bed couch in the living room and it worked out perfectly for 3 people , my wife and i had the private bedroom and my dad crashed on the couch pullout bed. Really nice clean property, the lobby is very cozy and the staff was very ftiendly and informative. Train ride was awesome, we upgraded to the luxury parlor car - the nicest car at the very back of the train, loved being able to go outside on the back deck of the train for fresh air and beautiful scenery !! When you purchase the top of the line ticket you can go anywhere you like on the train, the car next to ours was double decker with a parlor/ lounge area on the bottom with cozy couches...... yummy cocktails are available as you ride in style to visit the south rim . Grand canyon railway hotel is centrally located in Williams AZ about 5 minute walk from a super cool historic downtown with tons of shops and restaurants. The historic brick buildings will remind you of places like Virginia city or Nevada City, and many others that have preserved all the old buildings from the early 1900's. Route 66 ran right through the town of Williams and everything you see today makes you understand that this town was built up and thrived on hosting people driving through on Route 66, nowadays the Hotel/ Train ride tourists really support the local economy. It's a lovely town , a very nice hotel to stay at and the train ride was incredible, one of those experiences you have and when you get home you say to yourself- I'd definitely do that again!! It's my only visit to the Grand Canyon but i can't imagine it gets any better than this. If I go again , we would stay an extra night -3 nights and stay one night at the historic El Tovar lodge at the South rim and that would be the only thing we would do differently next time. read more

Oh my God! The train from Hell(for me). Woman on loud speaker talked for 30 min about restrooms and sale of Alcohol. She wouldn't SHUT UP and let us enjoy the scenery in peace. Found the crew very annoying. The don't have anything else to do except bother you. I came for the peaceful ride and beautiful scenery and did not find either. Gun fight before the ride was SAD. I was VERY skeptical about this adventure. The pricing was rather expensive and I wasn't sure my Grandchildren and Great Granddaughter would enjoy it. It was worth EVERY dollar that I spent! The gentlemen on the train were WONDERFUL and very knowledgeable about our surroundings. They worked the entire time. The trip was about 2 hours up & the Baby behaved very well. It was something that I would recommend to anyone heading to the Grand Canyon. I would take it again. We stayed at the hotel and it was perfect for our needs. The staff was incredibly friendly, the food was better than I was expecting, and the entire stay was a dream come true. The suite rooms here have the oddest layout. There's no direct entrance to the bathroom from the bedroom. One has to go out through the living room to get to the bathroom. Also, housekeeping isn't Automatically included. If you want your bed made or fresh towels you have to request it. I requested the bed made but it never was. The room was very clean. The bathroom also very clean. Right across the railway is the town main street, so you can just walk to a lot of restaurants and stores. This is a one of a kind experience. We have often driven through Williams and wondered what this was like. We are so grateful we gifted each other this trip for an anniversary present. The hotel is extraordinary as a package deal way better than we expected. Often hotels in package deals are just so so. Not this one! Everything about this adventure was fun. We checked into the hotel had a good night's rest packed our car to leave the next day and wandered over to the railroad bleachers for a fun cowboy show. From there, we were able to find our car and seats very easily. We upgraded to the best seats in the dome car and work very glad we did. It was first class with Sierra as our attendant. She had witty clever stories to tell as we took the 2 1/2 hour train ride to the rim of the Grand Canyon. The seats were fine. The dome car was well air-conditioned and everyone was in a festive mood. The Grand Canyon, of course, speaks for herself. There is a three hour layover on the south rim for Photo, ops meals, and visiting. All Worth the trip. Most of us chose to be ambulatory, and there were some stairs involved, at 8000 feet elevation. It took our breath away. But we are in our 70s and live at sea level so expected it. There are accommodations for less able-bodied people and a beautiful setting to enjoy before the 2 1/2 hour return trip. Cowboys bank robbers, horses all fun. We strongly recommend this trip as a once in a lifetime fun day. read more

You don't come to a small Railway town for luxury- you come for the nostalgia- train ride and to soak it all in. We had a really great experience on our first time visit to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, booking the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel package. The package was perfect for us, as all we had to do was get to the hotel, check in and everything else was taken care of. The package included a two night stay, two breakfasts and two dinners at the on site Fred Harvey buffet restaurant. We also booked the Grand Canyon bus tour which included a buffet lunch at the Maswik. The hotel is grand with lots of old charm. We enjoyed cocktails before dinner at Spencer's. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms. We were very comfortable. The train ride was about 2.5 hours each way. It was slow and leisurely. If you take this for the Polar Express trip, it would be only 45 minutes each way, stopping at the "North Pole" before heading back . Our hostess in the first class car was Teyrel, who shared many interesting stories. She was awesome! The first class car was definitely worth it for service, comfort, light snacks and drinks, and the nice woman's lounge. We were entertained with live one-man/one-woman band music and train robbers. The train drops off right below the El Tovar Lodge, where you immediately jump on the tour bus. The bus tour was about two hours and hit major view points. The GC is absolutely beautiful! The buffet lunch at Maswik was efficient and quick. Food was okay. We had enough time after the bus tour to check out the lodge and Hopi house before we had to board the train back to Williams. The hotel and train ride does a good job of accommodating handicap customers. Lots of seniors here! Some families with young kids too. In summary, this package is a great way to go to get a taste for what the Grand Canyon has to offer, and if you just want a leisurely, relaxing ride. This is not for the more adventurous hikers who don't have the patience for a train ride and who have the time to stay a while for exploring the trails and all that the GC has to offer. read more

We did the dinner/breakfast combo with the room and that made it super convenient it also is less than a minute walking walk from hotel. We stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel for one night for the Polar Express package. The hotel was packed for the weekend for the holiday season but the check in process was quite easy once at the counter. The hotel was decorated for the holidays with some cute photo ops around the property. The room was clean and had some nice toiletries that are environment friendly as they are in large bottles vs small plastic bottles. The Polar Express package included dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant which was convenient to stay on site. You can definitely hear noise through the walls as the hotel is full of families with young children. The workers are all really nice and accommodating. Overall we had a great stay here. We only did the Polar Express train ride but there's lots of people there for the Grand Canyon tours they offer. There's a few other places for families to check out while in Williams so you can make a nice family getaway weekend while you're here. read more

Awesome Hotel - can't say the same for the staff. The desk clerk (acne) lied to me on two things: The cost of the Jeff Harvey buffet "$20...". Not. It's 28 with tax = 31. Not cool. And - The $75 fee for incidentals "will fall off when you check out in the morning...". Not. Waiting for my $75 for 3 days now; probably won't see it til Monday - I hope. I must say we stayed there a month prior at the RV park in our motor home, received MUCH BETTER customer service there. Your desk clerks could learn a lot from those wonderful people. We went for polar express. Very expensive. The dinner buffet was not fresh and the food wasn't replenished. Breakfast was yummy. The train ride is fun and long. But the room temp hot cocoa and hard cookies were not it. The rooms are fine but overall for the price, I didn't feel like it met the value of what we paid for. read more

Stayed here last night as part of the Polar Express train ride package. No idea why some of these reviewers are blown away they aren't seeing or receiving the same amount of service and amenities you'd get from a 5-star resort. We were in Room 2116. Sure, it could use some updates and the privacy shades on the blinds were fastened together by a paperclip. BUT the room was incredibly clean. No odd smells or stains. The bathroom was honestly one of the cleanest I've ever seen in any hotel. The room was quiet and comfortable for the little time we spent in it. Customer service was great. Zero issues whatsoever. Check in time is 3p. Says so right on the email, the receipt and numerous text messages they sent me. The parking lot is vast with plenty of spots. The hotel is clean, quiet and they made our stay a beautiful way to kick off the holiday season! read more

The Grand Canyon Railway is a great way to see the Grand Canyon effortlessly. Their package deals are so fun ( a little campy) but they look after every detail. The train leaves from Williams, Arizona and is roughly a 2 1/2 hour train ride. During this time you have entertainment and access to food. The train ends in the heart of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. If you are staying the night in the Grand Canyon they transport your bag and leave it in your room at Maswik Lodge in the park and the next morning bring it back to your hotel room in Williams. I can't tell you what a nice touch this is, because you can explore the Grand Canyon without a worry. The package also includes 2 breakfasts and 2 Dinners both in Williams at the Fred Harvey Restaurant . The entertainment includes a comedic old fashioned shoot out and a train robbery. We loved our stay here! We booked last minute because we ran out of our hotel at Comfort Inn after finding bed bugs. The staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is cozy and was already decorated for Christmas (in October). There are restaurants and gift shops, which make it convenient. Next time, we want to stay and take the train to the Grand Canyon. It's also closeby to historic Route 66. We walked it and went to a bunch of stores for souvenirs. read more

This is a fun place to stay because it is near the train and that's the point. You board just a couple of hundred feet from the hotel. It couldn't be easier. The rooms are nice and functional - not luxurious but they have what you need. One thing I noticed - instant (the fastest I've ever experienced) hot water and I assume that's because the hotel doesn't want you wasting water waiting for it to get hot. There is a serious drought in Arizona. We did not dine at the hotel restaurant but there is one and there are many restaurants all around. We went to a nearby, fun brewery pub and also a Thai place that was good. There are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel staff was extremely nice and helpful especially the fellow who works the door. I would stay here again - no doubt. I have only one suggestion: remind guests that there is a drought and encourage them to save water. I noticed that the hotel has done this is operational ways (fast hot water in the bathrooms, low-flow shower heads, etc.) but I think guests would want to be aware and help out.
