The Grand China Buffet is super close to our house and we hadn't been there in a long time, so decided to pop in recently. It is pretty inexpensive, but unfortunately, you definitely get what you pay for in that respect. The decor is pretty cute, with little Pixiu dragons outside the entrance, high vaulted ceilings in the dining area letting lots of natural light in, and murals of different Chinese cities. But what really matters is the food when you're there for a meal, and the offerings were pretty standard, but nothing to write home about or plan a return visit. At any buffet, I like to get a small amount of each thing I'd like to try, instead of one large plate of one entree (I would go to non-buffet option for that). I started with a few appetizer style items: -Corn: This tasted like canned corn that you'd have at home, so a little disappointing. -Lo Mein: Okay for lo mein noodles, but pretty dry. I mixed this with some of the sauce of the proteins I got, so that helped. -Crab Rangoon: Not the best Rangoon I've ever had, but I did like the shape (little flower bud style) and the thinner consistency of the wonton. -Pork Bao: I was excited for this, but it ended up being very doughy with one tiny sliver of the Pork inside. For the entrees, I had small portions of a handful of them: -Black Pepper Chicken: This was actually pretty tasty and flavorful with the pepperiness. -Pepper Steak: This was similar to the Black Pepper Chicken, but it was a non-breaded style like the chicken had been so a different consistency. -Peanut Butter Chicken: One of my go-to favorites when I go to Chinese restaurants. This one was pretty dry and crispy so not the best texture of flavor I've had for this dish. -Broccoli Chicken: Another of my favorites usually, and this one wasn't terrible. The brown sauce was nice and the chicken was pretty juicy. -General Tso Chicken: I think this was my favorite of the entrees I tried. It had the sweetness along with a slight spice, so it wasn't a one-note flavor or too sweet, like some can be. And then for the dessert options, there were a few hits and misses: -The fried donuts were amazing, but you HAVE to eat them when they are hot and fresh. They become hard as a rock if you let them get cold. -There was a dark chocolate cake, that was the driest thing I had ever put in my mouth. I don't recommend that cake. -They had a cooler with Blue Bunny ice cream, and you can't go wrong with that. -There was an eclair style cake that was pretty dry so I wouldn't recommend that either. -Coconut Cake: I don't even like coconut usually, but this was pretty fluffy and delicious. The coconut was shaved on top so it wasn't as offensive of a coconut flavor as usual. Overall, this definitely is not the best Chinese buffet in Omaha (it's not even in the conversation), but it's a passable option if you have no other way to get to one of the better options in town.

The Grand China Buffet is one of the better buffets I have been to. The waitress we had was very friendly attentive clearing our empty dishes and filled our water glasses. They have Mongolian grill but typically I selected from their buffet entrees. The food is fresh, always filled and hot. Overall I thought this is one of the better Chinese buffets I have been to in Omaha. My only knock is the decor (tables and chairs) are very basic. Overall this was a great visit and will plan to visit them again in the future. I would recommend this buffet to others.

Old food disgusting so old can't even chew it of course. No refunds so I paid to post this review

I found roaches when I went to change my daughters diaper!!! There were flys on the food and when I left I didn't realize they had charged me $24 more. That was minor, I threw up in the parking lot because I couldn't shake the thought that I had just ate there!

Crab Rangoon cooked w bug on the menuyummy extra protein

Crab Rangoon with extra protein very much needed Waiters are nice tho Pretty long waiting line so you'd think the food is worth the wait but whatever you get what you payed for Me and wifey are not impressed Ambience is pretty nice ig

While eating my meal, I found a bug that had been cooked in its my dish. When talking to the manager, she informed me this was normal, and if I had a question I should go ask the people in the ocean. Don't waist your time or money.

This was the Won Ton Soup.

I have only been here once, it had a lot of variety, and they had sushi. I liked the ambience.

From greeting to departure, we have felt welcome and appreciated. Not sucked-up-to. Appreciated. It's like they dig what they're doing. Feels great. This is doubly true for us when dining at the bar. We had a great conversation with the gent serving, and enjoyed him nearly as much as the meal. The fish. So fresh. So tasty. Soft. Perfectly cut. Mmm. Parking is pretty simple. Plenty of space behind the building. Chill neighborhood, too. Felt quite safe. At some point, I need to try some of the many other types of Japanese cuisine, Chinese cuisine, and Thai cuisine. This place makes me wish I lived in Bellevue.

The only downside for us is the location- it's a bit of a drive from where we are. Otherwise, we'd probably find ourselves going more often.

I ordered the Honey Chicken Bento Box, my wife Laura had the Avocado Roll, my daughter Alex ordered the Hibachi Steak, and my other daughter Samantha had the Chicken Bento Box. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. My only small disappointment was that the honey chicken didn't have as much honey flavor as I was expecting based on the name, but it was still a good meal overall. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating throughout our visit, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, which gives it a cozy feel. Personally, I'd love to see a little more Japanese décor and perhaps some music that better matches the cuisine and atmosphere. It would help create a more immersive dining experience. The bathroom was just okay--nothing particularly noteworthy, but it could use a little attention. Overall, the food and service were the highlights of our visit. We'd definitely come back and look forward to trying more of the menu next time.

If you're feeling indulgent, splurge on the sake pairing as well to truly round out the experience. Service is always excellent and the hidden door entrance starts the night off right, letting you know from the start you are in for a treat. If you heard about a sushi omakase place in the middle of America, what would you think? I bet…read moreit's probably not fresh-tasting raw dishes or wow-level sushi omakase. But there is a James Beard-level recognized chef here, in Omaha, that is delivering fresh-tasting raw and other omakase dishes week after week - geography be damned. His name is David Utterback. It's incredibly difficult to get reservations at this eight-seat omakase called Ota. Moreso than any omakase in my hometown on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In fact, I dont think he needs this review - the best don't need to advertise. I also don't think we have a sushi chef here in Hawaii that is as nationally-acclaimed as Utterback. So we were very interested to try. And we were very lucky to get reservations. I dont think there is a parking lot for this restaurant, which is tucked within his also highly-regarded Yoshitomo restaurant. So if you from Hawaii like me, and get lucky with the reservations, gotta roll da dice on parallel street parking. That's code for come early ;) (parking is free in the area) W-h-e-n you do arrive at Yoshitomo, there is a small - hidden - waiting area within Yoshitomo where you will be asked to wait for the omakase to begin. The dark photo with the lantern and Ota sign is in that waiting room. - And frankly - That's all that needs to be shown in a photo cause the omakase course itself varies depending on chef's tastes and what's available that week. The courses we had will likely not be the entirety of the courses you have. But the rice might be the same. There is a special black vinegar that chef uses to add to the rice. Ask him about it. There is a whole story behind it ;) So my photos are small in number. They are the highlights of our experience and what stood out to me that is beyond anything I've tried in Hawaii or elsewhere (including the black-vinegar sushi rice) Enjoy - cause we most certainly did :)
