There's a reason why this nail salon has so many 5 star reviews! I came to this salon years ago with a Groupon and loved my manicure and recently rediscovered it after my friend had suggested I go there for a dip powder manicure. My first visit back didn't go as well was I hoped because the technician accidentally picked the wrong color and I had waited a while for my appointment. I normally wouldn't mind waiting but I had dinner plans and was in time crunch. The technician realized the mistake and offered to let me come in the following day to fix my nails. This kind of customer service is what makes this nail salon so great. My nails haven't chipped at all and I will definitely return for my next manicure! This place is fairly small with a limited number of technicians so I would definitely suggest an appointment. read more

I've been going to Grand Design for 5-6 years after a friend suggested it and I've always been meaning to make a review. I've never ONCE had a bad experience here. Needed a quick pedicure and found this place on yelp. Very small store in a plaza with ample parking. Everyone was friendly and I appreciate the fact that if you were a regular, they knew your name as you walked through the door and if you weren't, they quickly asked you what it was and didn't forget it as you left. Walk ins and appointments were taken with ease and one had to wait long. My foot and leg massage was fantastic and Suthy did a great job. My only complaint is I like a little extra attention on my heels and she only used a pumice stone. Other than that, wonderful! And will be back whenever I am in the area again. read more

This nail salon is amazing. I started getting gel extensions a couple months ago and I will never go to another place to get them done. All the ladies are insanely nice and attentive. They all remember your name and greet you whenever you come in. I have had my gel nails filled in multiple times now and they have never chipped or peeled, and I've gone 2-3 weeks between fills. I really could not understand how every review on here is 5 star, but now after going yesterday afternoon, I totally get it! I called ahead as I was picking up my mom from the ferry and wanted her birthday to go as smoothly as possible. I needed our time to be 12:30, and at first it seemed like they were busy, but they literally did everything in their power to get me in for that time slot, and they did! The unbelievable professionalism displayed by Jackie and Jenny, and the rest of the staff was something I have never seen in a nail salon. As someone said in a review below, why pay $25 for a mani pedi tthat you are disappointed with when you can pay $35 to be treated great and it will last for twice the amount of time. This place is legitimately five star and hands down the best nail place in the area. I've been going here consistently for about a year and a half, every two weeks for a mani and every four weeks for a pedi. My nails are done by Sothy (pronounced Sotee) but seriously everyone there is topnotch. The entire business is immaculately clean. Sothy literally does a perfect job on my nails. I mean, flawless, and it lasts the entire two weeks at least (UV gel manicure). I have never been anything less than 100% satisfied with the services; and even if I do get a little chip, they always allow me to come back and get it fixed free of charge. What really puts this place in a class of its own, however, is how friendly and kind everyone is there. They all greet you by name no matter who's client you are, ask how you are, and will legitimately do anything to make you happy and comfortable. A real gem. Call for an appointment though, walk ins can be hard because they are always booked with regulars...and for very good reason. read more

I saw Jackie today for a regular mani/pedi ($35 together) having her use a razor on your feet adds only $5 to the pedi. OK, so I was so totally pleased with this place in every way!!! Clean, friendly, helpful and gracious. I'd been getting bargain $25 m/p's that cannot stand next to the job done by Jackie today. I rarely get my nails done, so this was a treat for me. I decided to get a shellac manicure and a regular pedicure. I am horrible with names, but the woman who did my nails did a fantastic job. The pedicure was so relaxing, and my shellac looks great! The place is tiny, but that's not a problem. Staff made me feel very comfortable and I enjoyed the conversation but didn't feel forced to talk, since it was early in the day and I wanted to just relax and rest my eyes. I have been to places that made me feel rushed and uncomfortable- so to find a setting I feel relaxed in was great. I will definitely be back soon. Thanks ladies! read more

Two times I've gone and both times my gel nails have chipped in the first week. I even paid extra for stronger nails polish. Most nail salons offer me a drink while waiting. This salon does not. LOVE this salon! I travel 2 towns over to continue going here as I've moved but cannot find another nail salon that compares. ALL of the ladies are great at what they do, and super friendly. I love how they all greet you by name when you walk in, even when they aren't doing your nails. Also, they make you feel comfortable and speak English. To some its not a big deal, but it does make me feel a bit uncomfortable in other salons when they have full conversations in another language to each other, instead of engaging with the customer as well. Read the reviews and also didn't see how it could be all 5 stars. I called last minute to make an appointment and was accommodated quickly. I didn't see a price list or menu of options but I asked for a pedicure and was well taken care of. It was more extensive than a "spa" pedicure at other salons and I left with beautifully done toes and smooth feet. I watched them greet regulars as they came and left and as I readied to leave I was greeted by name and felt appreciated for my business. I'll be sure to come again! My new go to spot for shellac!!!! I made an appointment a few weeks ago and had to cancel due to a big snowstorm.. Lyda has texted me letting me know that they were going to have to reschedule due to the weather, which was super thoughtful, considering I would have called anyway! When I did make an appointment, I needed to remove my current shellac and was adamant that they used the Shellac brand acetone solution (it doesn't dry out the nail or damage!!). She used it and in a few minutes it peeled right off. My nails were hard and I was happy!! The actual manicure was probably one of the best I have ever had. My pet peeve with shellac is when it doesn't get close to the cuticle, but she did an amazing job and the filing was perfect. I couldn't be happier and my nails are ready for the weekend!! The gel polish felt very thin when I left, more like regular nail polish, so I wasn't surprised when they started chipping in days. The paint was applied inconsistently, so there were smudges and see-through spots. The technician filed my nails in a sawing motion, weakening the nail and leaving the edges ragged. I found Grand Design while exploring Fairfield last summer (I lived in New Hampshire and was visiting my boyfriend in Fairfield). After my first time here my regular mani/pedi lasted almost a full month with just normal nail polish, no shellac or anything! I'm a massage therapist and a waitress so I was literally mind blown about what an amazing job they did! After that I would just wait until I was down in ct again to get my nails done. I went to this salon per recommendation, with hopes of getting UV Gel Nails applied. I was told to ask for Lyda, and so I called ahead and did just that. Upon getting there I noticed that it was conveniently right off exit 21 of I95, however the parking was not as convenient. While the parking lot is right in the plaza, it was very hard to find a spot. After finding a spot, I made my way towards the salon. Upon first entering I noticed that it was quite small, but they had really made the most of their small space, and it certainly did not feel cramped at all, which is a big thing for me. I was kindly asked by a friendly lady at the front desk what I would like done today, and I told her that I had an appointment with Lyda. A huge smile crossed her face and she happily said "I am Lyda, come, come sit down!" She gently guided me to her desk, which was right next to the front desk (one of the only downfalls, because she was the manager and therefore was also in charge of answering the phones, which she did, however she had a Bluetooth device in her ear which she simply pressed and then went right back to focusing on my nails). I told her I was trying to break the habit of biting my nails, and I though that a UV Gel application would help to give my nails a chance to grow out and get stronger. However, I also told her that I would be headed back to college and wouldn't be able to keep up the fill ins. After hearing my story, Lyda kindly recommended that Acrylic might be the best option for me since I wasn't planning on keeping it long, and because it was less expensive. I expressed concern to her over the horrors I had heard of people who had acrylic nails and how it made their nails thin and brittle, but she assured me that the reason for that was because of the excessive filing that many other salons do to the natural nail, and that she only did minimal filing... and she was so right. I kept up with the acrylics for about 6 weeks, and the asked for them to be removed. After soaking for maybe 5 minutes total, she gave them a gentle filing and then applied a Colombian nail hardening polish, that is honestly one of the BEST nail hardeners I have ever used (I even bought one myself, after I saw how well it really worked). Lyda even gave me a manicure after she removed my acrylics, and honestly it was one of the best manicures I have ever had. This nail salon is honestly top quality. The workers are very friendly, and they make you feel like a regular, striking up conversations with you while not making you to feel like you have to talk). The environment is super clean (they even have these vacuums installed at each desk to suck away the harsh chemical fumes from the nail polishes or treatments, as well as to suck up the dust from having your nails filed), the air isn't saturated with chemical fumes that makes you feel like you can't breath, the chairs are extremely comfortable, and the tools are sanitized with a UV light box. The workers are more than happy to serve you, and the overall experience is one that you wont soon forget! P.S. ASK FOR LYDA!!! read more
