Originally named Etna when it broke off from Washington Township in 1903, Emerson is the southernmost of the valley's eight communities, located 11 miles away from the George Washington Bridge. At what is considered downtown, the train station sits in a triangle where Kinderkamack Road meets the tracks and other roads branch out. The Emerson Hotel began feeding and housing travelers 150 years ago after the railroad came through. Today it's a rambling restaurant and bar that has been an old familiar hot spot for the locals for decades where my colleague, her husband, and I came for lunch. They have eaten here before, and it is my first time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon arrival from their parking lot in the back, the interior reflects a casual vibe and takes one on an old-school restaurant time trip.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is divided by a spacious dining room to the left and the bar to the right from the separate room for private events and the outdoor covered deck, weather permitting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were greeted by the staff and immediately seated in the main dining room by the fireplace. The menu featured a large selection of classic continental cuisine with specials and their famous sliced steak open-face sandwich. For starters, we decided on their crock of French onion soup and a garden salad. For our main, we opted for the Margarita Pizza and the 8 oz. Center Cut Sirloin Steak with Asparagus and Onion Rings. The food was well seasoned, tasty, and delicious. The margherita pizza had a very thin, European-style pizza crust and was crispy. The prices are reasonable, the service is very good, and our server, Gulsah. If one is looking for a quick meal and a few drinks, give this place a try, which we can recommend.

PROS: This place is amazing! The atmosphere is rustic, there's a bar and restaurant components of this place that are separated, the staff is nice, prices are unbeatable, food is amazing and comes out quickly. Menu variety is nice and loads of parking CONS: As funny as this sounds the only issue I had are that the urinals in the bathroom do NOT have a divider in between them which is uncomfortable OVERALL: I highly suggest coming here if you're in the area, this is an amazing place to come and eat at

Be sure when your spouse checks your spending accounts that he/she is full aware this place actually isn't a hotel. It may just save your marriage. The exterior is retro cool but sadly the interior is worn and tired, even with some recent renovations. The burger was surprisingly delicious as were the clams! I was pleasantly surprised, surpassed my expectations. Wait staff is friendly BUT kinda inattentive.

Emerson Hotel is a cozy, hometown bar with a very relaxed vibe. I went with friends to grab a beer and a pizza. We took a high top table in the bar area. Although the bar was busy, the bartender was still efficient and able to come out to serve us. It was difficult to choose a pizza!! They all sounded delicious

Delicious food, nice atmosphere. Glad to see vegetarian option and the portions were generous.

We were greeted right away by the one employee on staff, who was very attentive and pleasant. He was both the waiter and bartender. We ordered the smash burger as an appetizer since it's something I've never seen on a menu as an appetizer before. The smash burger itself was basically a standard double cheeseburger. The patties had a strange texture and didn't have much of a crust. There were also no pickles or house sauce, as the description said there would be. That being said the hand-cut fries that came with it were freshly fried and delicious. For dinner we got the gnocchi in spicy ragu and the pork chop Milanese. The gnocchi was delicious with the sauce but could have been hotter it unfortunately came out lukewarm. The pork chop Milanese was presented beautifully and had good flavor, but it felt like it was missing something (maybe a little more spice or citrus to complement the Asian slaw on top). Overall the service was great, but food was only good and extremly pricey for the portion sizes. I'm hoping the restaurant succeeds, and I'd like to go back and try some different dishes.

There were some people sitting outside for dinner and maybe three other tables inside full so it was not busy if you wanted to walk in for dinner it is possible but we had reservations. The decor aims for high end dining, they have an elegant bar area with some tables if you prefer to eat on that side. The hostess and servers were very attentive. The menu is very limited. They have a bunch of different special martini drinks, and plenty of wine selections, but the food menu is very limited. They have dinner specials to offer. My husband went with the burger, which was a very thick patty served with a brioche bun, cooked perfectly. The fries were just OK. They looked as if they were frozen fries just put in the oven. I went with the cod special over Seasonal corn. The corn was tasteless. The cod was cooked perfectly although it did lack a little bit of flavor and we shared the iceberg salad for an appetizer, which was good, but nothing special. The prices were reasonable we decided to pass up on the dessert and take a walk down the main Avenue in Westwood and find some ice cream . I believe it was the male owner that did stop by after we finish dinner to check on us. He was very pleasant.

One proceeded to apologize and tell me "how overwhelmed everyone is because it is Valentines Day." I didn't have the heart to tell him it was actually Friday the 13th and the restaurant was not even close to packed. If that stresses him out he is in the wrong line of work. Furthermore, you don't trouble customers with this sort of thing. BUT, I digress... 2 stars for the photo of Elvis Presley in the movie Flaming Star! I saw that movie in the theaters, 1961! Actually, 1 star for Elvis and another for the water service (more about that later.) We ordered the Octopus and Fried Pickles as app's. The Octopus was loaded with garlic, but otherwise under seasoned and flavorless and was a comically small portion - a "sliver." Loaded with fingerling potatoes though! The fried pickles were about as "good" as something you would get from a bad food truck. Both (over) priced like it was prepared by a Michelin chef (which of course, it was not.) Next up - the Porterhouse for two. Ordered Medium rare and arrived Medium Well, to actually Well done (i.e.. solid GREY) on the Filet side. Because our server considered his job done after our entree's arrived, it was a chore to find him and flag him down to send it back. It took a disproportionate amount of time to bring us a new one, like 40 minutes. We got multiple apologies but no visit from management (which is customary in a place that fancies themselves "high end") and no offers to comp anything to make things right. Finally we get our Medium rare steak which honestly, was chewy and tough. Our server disappeared like a ghost after we got our Porterhouse "re-do" which is too bad because we needed a few things...like salt for the flavorless steak fries. Maybe he was busy? After all, it WAS Valentines Day! One plus - there is an almost OCD-like fascination with filling your water glass! Take one sip and an arm will magically appear next to you to top it off! Give that man a raise! First time/last time - awful.

Set inside a thoughtfully transformed former bank, the space retains a sense of structure and history while being reimagined into something warm and inviting--a true "gastro-cornerstone" at one of Westwood's most visible intersections. Where transactions once took place, guests now gather over coffee, conversation, and carefully crafted plates. The menu leans into elevated comfort with a clear attention to detail. The Skillet is a standout--two eggs any style layered over crispy potatoes and thick-cut bacon glazed with a subtle passion fruit syrup, finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and fresh thyme.
