So, this one was a real doozy of a visit. The drinks were fair, with our order being a Goose Island IPA, Long Island iced tea, and a pomegranate martini. The service and food, on the other hand, were quite a mixed bag. We ordered a margherita pizza, pancake tacos, steak and eggs, and French toast with a side of sausage--the pizza, at least, was good. However, the "French toast" was more like an anemic panini press trying to pass as French toast. The steak and eggs comprised of a fairly well-cooked (that is, it was the right temperature) yet underseasoned steak of a relatively dubious cut, underseasoned home fries, and eggs done wrong (sunny side instead of over easy). The lattermost was the start of the problem, as I was willing to give it a shot, but found the texture off-putting. In light of this, I brought the problem to our server Adalia, who brought it to her manager Elvia. Thankfully I had someone else with me to tell me what happened: Elvia came over without addressing me on their error, silently took a look at my plate and instructed Adalia to have the kitchen put the eggs back on the fire. She takes my plate to extract the eggs, and brings them back (unsurprisingly) completely overdone, first in Elvia's hands, then in Adalia's for her to serve; we send for a refire, and they come back correct 7 minutes or so after I've already finished eating. Considering the hassle it took to get them, I couldn't trust it enough to eat, leading them to waste as well. After all was said and done, the GM Amer comes over to see how things were, and was thankfully helpful and understanding of our situation. Here's the rub: I was initially willing to overlook the steak, the home fries, and even the eggs if the error was properly ameliorated. Adalia and Amer both did very well, and I'm grateful for them for that; Elvia, on the other hand, managed to break the chain of competent customer service by directing the server to handle the problem in a way that was set up for failure (if you mess up an egg, it's an immediate refire because of how the egg cooks in the first place -- Amer also arrested to that policy) all without addressing us and taking accountability, due to negligence or whatever else. Not only that, but when sending the incorrect eggs over the second time, she couldn't even bring it to us herself--it would have been easy, seeing as she was the one that originally had them--and left Adalia and her tip to potentially take the fire if the patrons happen to be angry. Mistakes are fine--everyone makes them--but I'd describe this as cowardly more than anything else, and I take issue with that in particular from a leadership standpoint. While Amer graciously extended an invitation for a better experience next time, I can't say I'll be taking him up on the offer when their service and food are this misaligned; unfortunately, a disappointment overall. read more

My friends and I went to The Rail House for oysters and were seated at 5:00 PM. By 5:15, we still hadn't received our drinks, despite being the only table in the restaurant and the bar not appearing busy. We politely asked about the status of our order -- no action. Ten more minutes went by with still no drinks. I went to the bar again to follow up, and instead of any accountability or urgency, the server snapped, "The door is right there," when I asked if we should just go elsewhere. We did exactly that -- we left. I have NEVER encountered such blatant rudeness, indifference, and disregard for paying customers. Save yourself the time and frustration. The staff is very friendly and the patrons and owners gave away free cookies, deserts and shots of frozen drinks. They had good live music, but it was so loud that it required everyone to yell at each other to carry a conversation. Thank you for the entertainment, but please lower the volume a few levels. Service - 3 While the servers were very friendly, they made multiple mistakes, I believe that it was related to the very loud music. They brought appetizers that we did not order and missed the ones that we did. Then a simple thjng like fries for the kids was not delivered until they were cleaning up the table. Except for getting the drinks on time, everything was delayed. We asked for water and had to wait 15-20 minutes, yet the alcohol arrived in minutes. The kitchen was also way behind as it took over an hour to get the appetizers. When the bill came it had the appetizers that we did not order. On plus is that they served everyone their main course at the same time. Food - 2 We ordered the following appetiezers Crab cakes - They were was a mush of mostly breadcrumbs with flavor, but little to no crab in them. Blue Point Oyster - Delicious. Minestrone Soup - Good taste and well balanced. Calamari - Tasteless and chewey. It needed salt and they were overcooked. Wings - Unbalanced. The wings had no seasoning and then buffalo sauce was too hot. Empanadas - good flavor and the right amount of filling. Chicken nuggets and fries - prepacked and frozen then fried. Dumplings - Main courses Duck - Overcooked, underseasoned, and dry. Lamb chops - Undercooked and underseasoned. Haddock special - Overcooked, dry, and underseasoned. Mashed potatoes were bland. Paella - Really pale rice, overcooked fish, and underseasoned. Lobster Tail - Two tiny lobster tails that tasted like they were frozen then thawed. Cooked properly, but underseasoned with what tasted like Old Bay Stuffed Shrimp - Cooked well, but the stuffing was the same bread forward crab cakes scuffing and they tasted like they spent too much time in the freezer. I really enjoyed my beet and kale salad... tasted like there was teriyaki sauce in it. The portion was also larger than what the pictures looked like. Let me start with saying, I don't usually take time to write reviews... Rowena from NJ. My friend and I were looking for a restaurant in the Mt. Vernon area and discovered a great spot just one town over--The Rail House Restaurant, 65 First Street, Pelham, NY 10803, (914) 365-1044. The food, pricing, and atmosphere were excellent. We ordered the $21 prix fixe lunch, which included an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. I had the fried chicken dumplings, and my friend had the meatball--both very good. For our main course, we chose the blackened branzino served over seared Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. It was outstanding and perfectly portioned. The overall menu seemed age-appropriate for all and kid-friendly. Our waiter, Jeanine, and bartender, Jennifer, were both very friendly. The music was a bit loud for the time of day, but Jeanine kindly adjusted it when we asked. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming--we ended up staying for five hours! I was here for a family event. The site is very cool, low key, trendy and modern. The people here are nice and you can tell they have many familiar locals. The bar had everything that can be desired. The food however, wasn't great. We had a family style assortment of meatballs, penne ala vodka, veal marsala and tropical salmon. Along with potatoes, string beans, bread and coffee as well. The meatballs were really good in flavor but lacked a sear for texture. Veal marsala was a bit lackluster and hard. Penne alla vodka had more so of a random cheese flavor and not a true vodka sauce. The tropical Salmon was delicious and flaky. Seasoned and done right. The bread was good. We did have a delicious Cesar salad in the beginning. But that's pretty much all that was enjoyable. I will come back for an individual assessment. My family comes I believe on steak night where they said the food is much better. I will give it a real shot. read more

Only 6 people were at the bar when I arrived for happy hour at 5:20. The bartender was heavily in a deep conversation with the waitress. After I ordered my drink I waited 20 minutes for it. It's a good thing the bar wasn't crowded. I decided not to order a second drink since happy hour was over. I didn't want to wait another 30+ minutes for my drink since more people had arrived. Came here for Father's Day brunch. Chose this place because the menu specifically says "gluten free options available". So I asked the waitress about the options and she said "there aren't many" and referred me to the salads. I'm sorry, but no, no one wants to hear that salad is the only gluten free option, especially when the place specifies gluten free. Beyond that, the service was subpar. Just paying the bill took over 20 minutes due to the wait time and also the server giving us the wrong amount of change. Probably wouldn't go back. read more

Honestly, this was just okay for me. Came here for date night and the food was just inconsistent in my opinion. They had launched their holiday drinks, and they needed some work. I ordered the Grinch drink and the first time around it came out red, I mentioned it to the server and she was nice enough to ask the bartender to correct it. Turns out he forgot, and made it the right way. However, in the end I ended up enjoying my go-to lemon drop. For an appetizer, we got the surf and turf skewer, which was supposed to have a peach whiskey glaze, but honestly looked and tasted like sweet chili sauce. For my entree, I got the stuffed shrimp with risotto. The stuffed shrimp was tasty, however the risotto was questionable at best. In fact, it tasted nothing like risotto - in taste, texture or presentation. It was super bland and simply tasted like long grain white rice with vegetables mixed in. I would not recommend this dish as a whole, I would ask to sub the risotto for something else. Now, the atmosphere was lively. There was a nice crowd for a Thursday. The customer service was excellent, however the food was all over the place. We did hear that their brunch is really good, so if you are in the area maybe check it out. read more

The service was very friendly, however the whole time there was singing, and I'm not insulting whoever was preforming the night, it just was to loud. Overall decor was nice but when we got our food which did not take too long, it was a disappointment. The wings were way to over cooked and even a little. It hard, the chicken dumplings felt like they were frozen then microwaved, the shishito peppers which are very difficult to mess up, and they did by adding a lot of bread crumbs all over it. And the tuna tartar was nothing special, just not terrible. read more

I decided to try out The Rail House again! And I'm happy to report it was a redeeming experience! We again made a reservation and we were accommodated immediately upon arrival! Amer seemed to remember us from our last visit and checked on us frequently, but not to where it was intrusive. the music was loud, but a great selection. The DJ Ryan was kind enough to drop his card with his Instagram handle - and told us to DM him any song requests. The food was good, I had the garlic parm fries again, and they did not disappoint, and I'm very happy to report that we actually got cotton candy, which was the Cherry on top of a great experience. read more

I had a wonderful dinner therailhouse10803 in Pelham. The Rail House 10803 is in the former Villa Nova location. They've updated the space with a big bar and bar area along with the dining room, wood fire oven. Our waiter was friendly and attentive as was all the wait staff who were hustling all night filling up water glasses, removing plates, etc.. They started us with an amuse-bouche, a shot of watermelon gazpacho. It was tasty and refreshing. We shared two appetizers, and each got a different meal. We all went home with leftovers. I really appreciate at the end of the meal they came out with a piece of chocolate cake and a big sprinkler singing happy birthday to me. The meal also ended with a complimentary shot of limoncello. I highly recommend The Rail House and can't wait to return. They have special most nights, Tuesday is $1 oysters , clams and shrimp during happy hour and Wednesday they have sirloin steak day, $15 for a beautiful looking piece of beef available at that price all day. We saw many pass by our table and each one was huge with two sides. Salt and pepper batter Calamari served with jalapeno aioli and marinara sauce on the side. DELICIOUS FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, HIDDEN GEM...I found parking the front and I said, "Thank you Lord" only I didn't realize there's parking on the side of the building. (DUH!) Upon entry they had a live band and they were jamming. What I loved is they didn't go all night, but went on every 30 -40 mins. My date and I were greeted at the front door by the manager and the waiter. It was such a warm environment and a neighborhood favorite. I love YELP you've never recommended a bad date location. They gave us free shots when we were seated. I didn't say no but, "thank you very much kind sir". The appetizers were so delicious. I had oysters for the first time in 12 years. The dinner was a pasta with grilled chicken. They didn't give me a slew of food, very fulfilling. The drinks were on point and the service was definitely a BIG 10. However, we were supposed to have a birthday dinner and there was no reservation listed so we are standing around looking crazy. The place is very small and the music too too loud. Didn't get a chance to eat the food because I left. Might try it again for a Sunday Brunch or something but due to the loud music I highly doubt it. Rail House 10803 is a monument to mediocrity. How it ever came to have nearly 4 and a half stars is beyond me. I chose the restaurant as the site for a congratulations dinner both because 1) I had always been curious about the place, which had a prior incarnation as Villa Nova E, or something like that and 2) because it had a surprisingly high Yelp rating. The food is not bad, but neither is it good. It tastes like it mostly made by some processor of foods, like Sysco, rather than something a chef concocts. An order of fried calamari as a starter was poor - it tasted like something that came in a large plastic bag and was re-heated in the oven, rather than something that battered, breaded, and fried from fresh calamari. A spaghetti with clam sauce was not enjoyed; an order of duck was better, but still only ranked between "ok" and "good." Service was neither efficient nor friendly - not a smile to be had from our waitress on the rare occasions she visited the table. Lastly, the music - I get it: plenty of restaurants think it's an inducement or amenity to have live music on Saturday. The "band," while not bad, proceeded as if they were playing MetLife stadium; however, The Rail House is not a big restaurant, and does not have high ceilings. The result was a level of din that caused everyone at every table to yell to be heard, creating a unpleasant din. Note to the Rail House: if you are going to have live music, think about "unplugged." Really more of a 2.5 star, this will be a one-time experience for us. I recommend you eat elsewhere. read more

I have to say that I liked the ambiance of the place. It had that modern twist on an old theme- the train. They paid a little homage to the Metro North system that takes a substantial number of people to and fro, and whom likewise likely stop in on their way home and hit the bar.... hard. I was particularly impressed with the waiting staff in the dining room. They executed their roles flawlessly, quickly, quietly, and with grace. They should be commended. I also did make sure that their top notch service was recognized in the gratuity. We started off with the mussels in the garlic white wine. We've had better. Both of us commented on the lack of garlic white wine sauce, and especially the lack of bread to dip into the sauce. It's part of the experience. As was we had to make do with two pieces of bread and a ladle full of sauce in the bottom of the plate. I'm not sure if they just dumped the mussels on top of sauce and called it a day, or not- but the sauce and the mussels have to spend some time together and meld flavors. And bread, known to me, as plate navigators, are an intricate part of the experience! For the entree, my date had the lamb chops while I opted for the duck. Presentation was excellent on both orders. I thought the portions fair- we did not leave hungry. My date did report that the lamb chops were good- but that she had had better locally. As for the Duck. It was a roasted half duck with orange sauce. It wasn't the crispy skin and orange sauce as advertised, which had initially led me to believe it was an American take off of the famous Peking duck- but I found it acceptable nonetheless. It wasn't greasy. I would have preferred the skin Peking duck crispy though. As was, I found everything over all to be good. While we were there- most people coming in gravitated towards the bar section of the house. I didn't partake in this occasion- but it seemed as though Rail House invested a significant amount in their drinks, which makes sense- considering the high commuter traffic during normal business week operations. Next time I will have a drink and order a pizza. I had wanted to order a pie to take home- but due to time constraints decided- another day. Will I return? You betcha. This was one of the quickest five stars I've done. Everything from start to finish was absolutely amazing. We came here with a group of friends for brunch and everyone's plates looked so yummy. I got the eggs Benedict and ate it so fast, I was sad when it was done. The hollandaise sauce was so light and flavorful, as well as the home fries. The arugula salad was a really nice fresh touch too. I got the bottomless mimosas and they are seriously on point here. Our waitress would refill our Cups when they weren't even halfway done, now that's good service! We connected with the owner after our meal to hear more about the business and he gave us a tour and even got us a round of drinks on the house. The bartender Tino is the sweetest and best bartender ever!!! This is for sure going to be one of my go to spots going forward. I can't wait to try more dishes and drinks from here. read more

I attending a wedding here as a guest. I've never eaten at the restaurant and it was my first time in the establishment. Amer, the owner, couldn't have been nicer and helped me get the room set up for the wedding. He was easy-going and very helpful. The day of the wedding, I arrived early to check on centerpieces, and Amer was there also overseeing the room and making sure every detail was done. He was as concerned as I was. He really takes pride in his business. The food at the wedding was wonderful. We had chicken Francese, sliced steak, salmon, prosciutto pizza, Barata salad, penne vodka and pasta Primavera. These are just what I can remember! The steak was tender, and very well spiced with a nice dry rub on it. I loved the prosciutto pizzas with the balsamic glaze! The drinks were also excellent, made with care and I personally loved the chocolate martini and the mai tai drink that the bartender concocted. Everything was family style at this wedding, and I was really impressed with the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff. With half an hour before the wedding reception starting, and the florist not arriving yet, this staff really stepped up to help light 50 plus candles and told me they would help with anything I needed. And they did! Everything was service with a smile! I highly recommend this restaurant and I can't wait to try it for a regular dinner. read more

We chose Rail House to host the celebration of our daughter's baptism. Best choice ever! Amer, the manager and host, is simply awesome. He is friendly, approachable, and flexible. Amer made the planning/booking process super easy. He made sure everything ran smoothly on our special day. He even found a place for us to hang a piñata! The venue was spacious, graceful, and clean. The family-style dinner and dessert were bountiful and delicious and the open bar option we chose did not disappoint as it had quality liquor and drinks. The location was also perfect as it is only one block away from the Pelham train station and there is plenty of municipal parking for guests. All in all, the Rail House made our daughter's baptism reception an incredible experience, so much so that our guests are still raving about the event!
