After spending thousands of dollars on tests, bloodwork, medications, and vet visits, we finally learned he had hypothyroidism--something that absolutely should be screened for in Dobermans, as it is hereditary. Even after diagnosis, the medications came with their own side effects, and we were constantly trying to manage and minimize those while keeping him comfortable. Our family went through so much emotionally, on top of watching him struggle physically, and we spent roughly $10,000 in vet bills just trying to help him. A month ago, his hypothyroidism led to a grand mal seizure. Our strong 86-pound dog was reduced to a panicked, shaking, terrified puppy. His medications stopped being effective, and we endured several sleepless nights as his condition worsened. His final night was heartbreaking. He had multiple grand mal seizures--falling, becoming bloodied, foaming at the mouth, urinating uncontrollably, and paddling his feet. We were bent over him, crying, trying to comfort him and tell him he was safe. I am angry and heartbroken over a life cut far too short--something that could have been prevented with more responsible breeding practices. He was the best boy: incredibly smart, loving, and deeply cherished. I only wish I had looked more closely at the negative reviews from other heartbroken owners who also had to say goodbye to their dogs far too early due to negligent breeding.

Thankfully that's all been addressed now (with some work and practice on our end) to where we can walk and take our baby anywhere without any hesitation! Watching Lucky Buddies grow has been such a joy, but what amazes me most is that their heart has never changed. Even as they've expanded, every dog is still treated like family. Teddy has been loved, cared for, and celebrated every step of the way, and there isn't a single person on the Lucky Buddies team that I wouldn't trust with him. They've truly become part of our village. From daycare and baths to transportation, check-ins, and walks, they've made life so much easier over the years. But beyond the services, it's the peace of mind that means the most. I never have to wonder if Teddy is safe, loved, or happy--I know he is. As I prepare to move away, one of the hardest things to leave behind is Lucky Buddies. I honestly don't know how I'll ever find another place like them. As a rescue, she struggles with separation anxiety, is fearful of new people, and is still a work in progress with her training. Finding a place where she feels safe and loved has meant everything to us. From Juan and Yesica to the entire team, everyone at Lucky Buddies takes exceptional care of our dog every time she visits. Their genuine love for the dogs is evident in the way they interact with and care for them. They know each dog's personality, treat them like family, and it's clear the dogs adore them in return. We also boarded Snowy at Lucky Buddies while we traveled out of the country. It was the first time I had ever been away from her for an extended period, and I was incredibly anxious. The team was so understanding and compassionate. They took amazing care of Snowy and sent me daily updates and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind while we were away. After our initial intake phone call with Cali K9 we decided on the 8 week semi-private and 8 week group session training package (with additional remote assistance). From the first session Hamza was professional, patient and firm with our dog (and us!). He gives detailed guidance in a structured environment, always remaining calm. It has been a journey, but halfway through our program we are seeing significant results - both in and out of class. We see our Rottie understanding and following commands much better, and our confidence in him and ourselves has grown tremendously. Hamza is not intimidated by large breed dogs and keeps the atmosphere super positive. While I see that this program is beneficial to all breeds, I would especially recommend Cali K9 for strong, reactive dog breeds.

This has been a life changing training for my two dogs. Our first day of level 1 class, they were barking and freaking out at the sight of other dogs. By the end of level 2, they were non-reactive, and I can now have my dog heel without holding a leash. Brent noticed how reactive our dogs were and took the extra time to walk us through training them to improve their behavior around other dogs as well as one of our dog's fear of water hoses. Highly recommend his group training classes. Its a lot of work, but you should feel comfortable & in control of your dogs. Thats what the classes have provided us and more. If someone told us 10 weeks ago that our dogs would be able to lay down with other dogs and be mellow, I would've never believed them until coming to Cooperhaus.
