After spending thousands of dollars on tests, bloodwork, medications, and vet visits, we finally learned he had hypothyroidism--something that absolutely should be screened for in Dobermans, as it is hereditary. Even after diagnosis, the medications came with their own side effects, and we were constantly trying to manage and minimize those while keeping him comfortable. Our family went through so much emotionally, on top of watching him struggle physically, and we spent roughly $10,000 in vet bills just trying to help him. A month ago, his hypothyroidism led to a grand mal seizure. Our strong 86-pound dog was reduced to a panicked, shaking, terrified puppy. His medications stopped being effective, and we endured several sleepless nights as his condition worsened. His final night was heartbreaking. He had multiple grand mal seizures--falling, becoming bloodied, foaming at the mouth, urinating uncontrollably, and paddling his feet. We were bent over him, crying, trying to comfort him and tell him he was safe. I am angry and heartbroken over a life cut far too short--something that could have been prevented with more responsible breeding practices. He was the best boy: incredibly smart, loving, and deeply cherished. I only wish I had looked more closely at the negative reviews from other heartbroken owners who also had to say goodbye to their dogs far too early due to negligent breeding.

To say the least, we love and fully support this organization as it has brought THREE wonderful dogs into our lives. Every person we have talked to at SBPR is friendly, knowledgeable, and has the best interest of the animals at heart. Our first dog was our very first, but we put in the time and research to demonstrate that we were ready for a pet. Though we were newbies and fully disclosed this, SBPR saw that she was a good fit for us as a "first dog," and we have been smitten with her ever since. She is even "bosom buddies" with my mom's dog from SBPR (who is 14 going on 15). With our recent second dog, also from SBPR, we were unsure how our current dog and new dog would get along, both being older and set in their ways. The foster mom allowed us to have a meet-and-greet, and even a trial weekend to see how they would live together. She saw that we were committed to what was best for both dogs, and the potential for a loving home with another SBPR "alum". We are so happy it was a successful transition. These dogs have brought so much love and light into our lives. SBPR cares about dogs and finding loving forever homes, and we are so lucky no-kill orgs like this one exist in our area. We treat our dogs like family, and this organization is to credit for these 3 little beings in our life. Eternally grateful to them for the great work that they do!

She did mention that she moved out to Patterson instead of breeding in Sunnyvale. However, she was very flexible and accommodating so we FaceTime to see the puppies a week before I came to pick up Georgi. I was impressed with how clean the house was especially for housing many dogs. I was mention that the puppies come home crate trained. For the most part they are because they're so accustomed to sleeping in the crate and we didn't have any problems with her crying and such. She's potty pad trained but did have a little accidents here and there. I mean they're still babies, totally expected and understandable. Georgi is one of the best things. She's extremely cuddly and friendly. She loves everything that moves. She was a bit wild for the first few months but that's with any kids, that have energy. One of the best thing is that she's neither submissive or dominant. I've had my friends dogs try to dominate her and all she does is walk away and then she will return and attempt to play while sharing her toys. She loves loves to swim! Isn't afraid of loud noises because we took her out on July 4th to see fireworks. I'm obsessed with her and her little quirks. I adopted my little girl at the beginning of…read morethe pandemic and she has allergies, anxiety, luxating patella in both legs and a litany of other health issues so she has had many visits to the vet. She hated going to the vet for nail trims so I had to sedate her and she would whine and cry on the drive there. She has fast growing extremely long black nails that need to be trimmed every 3 weeks and squirminess so she often got cut at the vet. I started to take her to Martha 2 years ago and I honestly think she loves her more than she loves me. I no longer need to sedate her and no more cuts! She also whines and cries on the short drive to Doggie Grooming Styles and though she is strapped in, will try to jump out of the car but now it is because she can't wait to get to Martha for her mani-pedi. We run from the car and she causes such an uproar when she gets in and all 22 pounds of her tries to tear down the gate to get to her true love. They have their own routine and route where after her nail trim she parades around the shop with Martha greeting each groomer to get her pats. All the staff and volunteers there are really friendly and they have a lot of cute dogs to adopt! And I love how if an owner is unable to take care of their pet anymore, CARE pets asks the owners to bring the pets back and not to give the dog away or give it to the pound. That makes me feel great about all the dogs that they manage and look after. If you're looking to adopt a puppy in the South Bay area, I highly recommend CARE pets!

We try to bring him in to visit his former foster mom every year or two. The people who foster these dogs are truly special, they save so many lives and make sure that the animals go to the right home. Cat Glass and her mother are heroes for broken dogs. They nurse them back to health, and give them all the love and affection you could possibly give a pet. They saved our pooch's life, and I will be eternally grateful. If you want to rescue a pup, this is a great place to do it.
