Pleasantly surprised but they do not have desserts on the delivery menus and they look so good. I also haven't tried the "Soul Food Sunday" menu, but it looks devine. The breakfast was delicious, service acceptable and the establishment clear but ordinary. I will both dine in again, and Order for delivery. Nice place.

Walked over in hopes of grabbing a late breakfast/brunch while getting some work done. Was given a breakfast menu, which I perused in anticipation for 10 minutes before being told they were no longer serving lunch. Also, the AC is out so I'm melting at the counter. Ok. The server slides over the lunch menu. I order the fried chicken special. Greens, mac 'n cheese, bird fried hard--all that. And I wait. And wait. As I'm waiting, the server asks me if ordered meatloaf. Then she asks if I ordered fish. Eventually she returns with my correct order and when I see it, boooooy. I've included a photo for reference. I received a lightly fried chicken fillet and while the sides were proportionate (I only put a portion of them on the plate) this was not worth the $33.05 I was charged. Oh, and that muffin? Dry and tasteless. Now, I understand that every business has its off days and that there are things beyond their control (like the lack of AC) but this entire experience has left a less than pleasant taste in my mouth. Not sure I'll be returning.

We came for the breakfast but there was an issue in the kitchen. We ended up getting the soulfood special they run on Sundays. The food was delicious. My mom said this may be her new breakfast spot.

Happy to have a neighborhood diner back. The food and service is fast. No wait time and lots of space for big parties.

Takes me back to grade school. They take your order up front where the chefs cook your food right in front of you. You then take your tray and scoot on over, add beverages and whatever else to your order and at the end of the line - you pay. Everyone was super nice and friendly - gives off that old school diner where everyone is family. Just got a basic breakfast meal that consisted of eggs, sausage, and a side of pancakes. Ordered some bacon on the side. Everything was really good and the sausage was deliciously crisp and had that "snap". The pancakes were soft and fluffy. The price is also very reasonable. Also, they have Barack Obama breakfast specials. So cool as it looks like our former President frequently ate here as he has pictures up on their wall with the workers. I highly recommend and will be back.

Service was very slow, but the place was busy so we understood. Kitchen was extremely slow. Again we understood. Our food was very good. We told him that most of that 90 minutes was spent waiting to order and waiting for our food. He spoke to his manager who confirmed that we'd have to leave. Terrible business model. We arrived 20 minutes before our scheduled reservation, but we were seated within five minutes of arriving. The server, David, greeted us promptly when we were seated. He mentioned that if you're ordering appetizers, they should be ordered with the main meal. While we looked over the menu, water was offered. I ordered Blackened Catfish over brown rice and carrots. The catfish was tender and perfectly seasoned. My brother had grilled flounder with creamed corn. Like the catfish, the trout was tender and well-seasoned. The corn had a slight sweetness. Roger had Short ribs and mashed potatoes. The ribs were tender and did not need any sauce because they were seasoned well. We also ordered a side dish of Macaroni and Cheese. It was delicious! A mixture of Gouda cheese and other cheeses. Very creamy! The top layer cheese was baked perfectly! If you know, you know, it's all about the top layer of cheese The APPETIZERS: The Gumbo was spicy but delicious! You only taste the spice at the end . It's not overly spicy; it's just right. The fried chicken gizzards were tender but could have used a bit more seasoning. It was served over brown rice and gravy. If I'm not mistaken, there were maybe 8 or 9 gizzards. The fried green tomatoes were perfect! From the seasoning to the grilled shrimp on top. Oh yes, grilled shrimp with this delicious sauce drizzled over the tomatoes. 3 or 4 shrimp. They were delicious! I've never had fried green tomatoes served w/grilled shrimp--definitely a must-try if you've never had it. For dessert, pineapple upside-down cake with coconut cream on the side. It was soooo good! They could have removed the coconut cream, as it was not needed. And it was a shareable portion for 2-3 ppl. There were other desserts, such as Blueberry Cobbler, Key Lime Pie, and Vanilla Ice Cream. If you're in the Hyde Park area, give these folks a try Oh yeah, the Manager, Louis, was walking the floor. I spoke with him briefly From what I observed, it's a very casual dress code--jeans, shorts, blazers, etc. And I loved the quotes on the outside window of those who were killed, like George Floyd and Sandra Bland. This place was nice! The dining area was clean and decorated nicely. The choice of decor fit the overall scheme I look forward to visiting again, possibly next Spring.
