I've been meaning to make this review for a while now I ordered three salmon croquette meals and a grilled turkey melt the problem I have with the salmon croquette is that it wasn't freshly made salmon it was frozen salmon patties that was horrible!!!! Stop selling people frozen stuff like they ain't going to know it was frozen!!!! It wasn't even canned salmon!!! those croquettes were not worth a dime of my money and the way the young lady pre-packaged the food made it all messy and Spilled Out especially for the Grits the Grits should have been in a regular separate container which they were not... All I know is you live you learn you learn I will never order that again I've had better items off the menu such as their pancakes and French toast but yeah do not order the salmon croquettes you will be highly upset read more

Today was my 3rd time coming, since the 90's. The 1st two times was great but today being the 3rd, not so much. We had breakfast and our Waitress was named Barbara. While eating breakfast we noticed some people were getting dinner, so we decided to order dinner then, since we had a lot of running around to do. I ordered the fried chicken with mac & cheese, yams, & dressing. My wife ordered fried chicken, mac & cheese, greens, and dressing. My daughter had the baked chicken, dressing, greens, & mac and cheese. My daughter's dinner was the only one made correct, mine had mashed potatoes, instead of yams and no dressing. My wife's dinner had no dressing. Everthing is on my reciept tho. I tried calling, but it was after 5pm when I saw my dinner. I'll call again tomorrow read more

She was fast, friendly, and gave expert service. We were a group of 5 and most of us had not been here before. Meaning we were unfamiliar with the menu. Ms. Lynn helped us make our selections. She was so patient with us. I wanted to change my order after I heard what everyone else ordered. The options were unlimited!!!!!! I was so excited. I loved the hot syrup option. The food came out and we devoured it. I made sure to save some to take home with me. I am in Chicago visiting family and can't wait to come back, I could eat here everyday!!!! Got a weird vibe immediately when I walked in. A sign said to wait to be seated. But no one would seat me. A waitress doing side work in the corner eventually looked up. She told me to go to a table number. Wouldn't even bother to get up. Never having been here, I had no clue where "Table 9" was. When I asked if she could show me, she copped an attitude. Rolling silverware was more important to her. I sat down in the booth, and she handed me a menu. When I took it, she asked me why I'd "snatched" it from her. Huh? Since when is taking something that's handed to you "snatching" it? Odd. After this, I heard the waitress behind me, running her mouth to a coworker. The food was nothing to write home about. The hash browns could not have been more dry and gross. The bacon was undercooked. The eggs had an unusual taste, like they weren't fresh. We were a party of four and we had an array of things to eat and everything was amazing. The portions were Fred Flintstone size. Just remarkable food from the liver and onions, fried catfish, salmon patties, collard greens and candy yams. The star of the show was the chicken noodle soup is. It was creamy with big chunks of chicken and the flavor was off the chain. I would go back for the soup alone. Our wait staff was on top of our every need and she was friendly. One of my good friends treat me here for a belated birthday brunch. Located on the Southside of Chicago. We were lucky to quickly be seated at a table. The server came over to our table with a pitcher of water. Filled our glasses up with some cold iced water and was ready to take our order. Now this is what I call fast service. I heard this place started off as a small diner across the street. It has now grown and has a spacious dining area. I ordered the spicy Denver Skillet, diced hot links and ham with green peppers, which came with oninons and topped with pepperjack cheese. It had just enough kick of spice to it. Very tasty and well-seasoned with 2 slices of toast. My friend ordered their famous Southside Skillet, homemade turkey sausage, green peppers, onions topped with cheddar cheese and a biscuit. The food wasn't all that good. There wasn't a hint of salt on anything. My hash browns were overcooked, no seasoned AT ALL! Even though there were bell peppers and onions, no flavor. The salmon croquettes had no seasonings, and they were mush inside. The biscuits were pretty and fluffy, sweet and not a hint of salt. After placing butter on them it didn't help. It was really spacious, so I wouldn't be too afraid to come on a weekend when breakfast is likely to be busy. Also, the historical paintings and prints on the walls really set the comfortable, home style vibes for this historically black restaurant. 2. The service is great and intimate. Everyone was super sweet, they were engaging with us like old friends and not just as customers. I can tell this place is use to getting a lot of repeat customers, and I'm sure most of the community is like family to them. 3. Food was delicious of course! I like to see the good,bad and ugly in regards to what people say about a restaurant. Daley's was AWESOME!!!! The customer service was friendly and the food was amazing. My friend had the catfish and grits and I had the standard sausage, hashbrowns and eggs. The food was so good, so much, so that I was only there in Chicago for three days and I went back a second time, I had the catfish with the greens and macaroni and cheese, and it was pretty good also. The macaroni and cheese isn't anything to write home about, but it was good. The catfish is some of the best I have ever had. It is definitely a must try if you're in the Chicago area. read more

You can tell the biscuits were made from scratch, very fluffy and warm, and made with a lot of love. The service was good. Our waitress was friendly and kind. Whew, where do I begin? Came here to get breakfast and really wish I hadn't. We entered the restaurant and placed our name on a list. We were told the wait would be about 5 min, which it was. We were seated in a booth and everything pretty much went downhill from there. We all ordered coffee and about 25 min later the waitress dropped off one cup of coffee. We asked where the coffee for the rest of us was, and the waitress replied, oh you ordered coffee too? Are you kidding me?! Strike one! You heard us order coffee and said ok! About 10 more min later the coffee for the rest of the group arrived. We didn't have enough cream so had to ask for more. That also took a long time to come. Also they don't have any flavored creamers just plain. Our food came out after waiting for quite some time and let me say it was subpar. It wasn't worth paying for. The bacon was drenched in salt. The grits were rubbery and the eggs were not cooked properly. The pancakes were edible but even that I only ate a few bites. We needed more butter for the table, and the waitress finally brought us like 20 small butter packets. Why on earth she thought we needed that many is beyond me!Terrible way to start my first meal of the new year ! After a while we asked for a refill on coffee. Should have known better, but the refill took 20 min to come. How does it take that long to refill a cup of coffee? Did they have to go get the coffee from another establishment? Finally as we were getting ready to leave, a different food runner comes to our table with another tables order. Gotta tell ya, been trying to come here for a while. The parking is iffy. I came during the week in the morning and was served right away. Gotta say it's very spacious. HOWEVER, in spite of it hardly being no one there, my guest and i waited almost an hr for food. The server was.phenomenal. but the wait on the food was to long. That said, it was some of the best catfish I've had in a long time. This was its saving grace. My guest thoroughly enjoyed his meal as well. Biscuit was large and fluffy. The portions were HIGE. The food was amazing and the steak skillet was it was a huge portion also. All of the food we ordered was great! It felt like home and very cozy on the inside. I ordered salmon, scrambled eggs with cheese, grits with cheese, 2 slices of thick Texas toast, sweet potato pie, a cup of dark roasted coffee, and a small orange juice. I have lived many places and visited Daley's years ago. It wasn't the best experiences (waitresses) with the exception of once when I ordered their chicken soup which healed my soul. Today I was craving some southern food and was happy to see that this restaurant had some good reviews and decided to check it out. This place is a self seating restaurant and should make that known by placing the sign by the door where people walk in. When we walked in, nobody greeted us and since the self seating sign was hidden, we just stood by the door. We were essentially greeted by someone and they told us to seat ourselves. The chicken was hot, crispy, and tasty. I thought the string beans could use more seasoning but overall it was decent. I didn't try the Mac and cheese because it didn't look appetizing but my partner had to add salt and did not like it. The vegetable beef soup wasn't my favorite and probably would not order soups from this place. The shrimp with the cocktail sauce was actually really delicious and so was the salmon pattie. I think the recipe can improve because this place has a lot of potential. Use a little less ice for the drinks because after one sip of the raspberry tea (great refreshing drink to wash down your food), it was nothing but a coup full of ice left.
