We loved this place! New to the area and exploring all of the local restaurants. This is number one on our list so far. I had a turkey rueben and didn't realize it would have cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. I absolutely despise cole slaw. Guys... I ate every bite. Slightly ashamed at how I put that sandwich away. What a GEM! Our party of five had an absolutely wonderful dinner at the Grand River Brewery this weekend. Cannot say enough good things. Attentive and pleasant service from Kyra. Delicious food. Started with Bavarian Pretzels and the Cheese Curds. Best Cheese curds I have EVER had. Hand battered, light and delicious. A very generous amount. And delicious house made Ranch dressing. That is the key here. They aren't just serving up frozen items from a Food Service. So much of the menu is items made from scratch and in house, and it shows, and is delicious. Our group had: Fish & Chips, Bacon Jam Burger, Mac & Cheese, the Reuben sandwich (which came with HUGE Sweet Potato wedges) and a Ribeye. Everyone enjoyed their food. Nice location, nice space, but - Food was overpriced and what we got was really not that good. My wife and I split a turkey Rueben, which was really small and the turkey was kind of "over smoked" and barely any cheese. The menu states choice of fries, Caesar salad or soup with the sandwich. I asked our server Jadien what soups they had, and one of the choices was whitefish chowder, which is what we chose. When we got the bill, the small sandwich was $19, and they charged us $4 for the soup. They also charged $5.50 for a white claw, and an extra dollar for peach? WTH? She promptly took our concerns to the manager, cheerfully came back and said it was all taken care of. They dropped the $1 for the "peach option", and left the $4 soup. Large private lot behind the building, large patio out front facing the farmer's market, huge space inside with a car area, sales area, and lots of seating. They make and sell great craft beers, and lots of them. Deals to sell with a local distillery and a Michigan winery. Great food, fancy pub style. The inside of the building is pleasant, and they have tablet menus so you are up to date on beer choices. GRB brings your drinks out faster than Jimmy Johns makes sandwiches..! Amazing service. The Brewery is absolutely a work of art, very ascetically pleasing! Loved their Sangria; It was stiff, full of flavor and decently priced. Now for the food- I was skeptical about ordering a $22 sandwich, but the "Smoked Brisket Sammy" was delicious. Smoked to perfection, and very tender. GRB's homemade BBQ sauce was the boss! The loaded fries were FIRE as well. Nice place for a meal and a drink! Locally sourced and made/baked/butchered on site. Lots of space with visual interest and friendly staff. Notable and Momentous. I was just passing through on a business trip and I was craving BBQ for lunch. This place just so happen to be down the street from the office and in walking distance so I gave it a whirl. Mind blown! Even though it was sad and empty from 'Rona, I could tell this this was once the town's cool and hip hang out--the place to be. I'd love to go back once Rona's behind us. The food was outstanding. I got the BBQ nachos and I'm pretty sure I said, "mmm, this is sooo good!", to my business partner after each bite. It totally hit the spot! What I SHOULD have done is gotten multiple dishes to sample but I'll be hitting it up again when I go back out. Do yourself a favor and give this place a go. Early Sunday dinner about 5:30pm. I ducked in to see if this venue would be okay for a vocal 1 year old. Sure is. Ambient volume is up, so a child's chatter, and occasional toy-dropping to the floor didn't disturb other diners. GRB is definitely a great place for groups, families and higher-energy hangout. Cool place. Lots of TVs, glass windows to let in light but dark decor gives the dining room a modern-cool feel. It's a brewery, however, I opted for a bottle of Chardonnay (for $13). Sleeping Bear is the label and it's either local or their label. Perfectly drinkable white for a Sunday afternoon. After checking out some reviews and recommendations, we ordered the fish and chips, smoked trout chowder, and heart-attack Mac. The chowder was amazing - slightly spicy, smokey and rich. I wanted more! I swapped my fried fish sides for the chowder and a side of mac. The mac is the best I have ever had, hands down. The right balance of sharp cheese, smokey bacon, onion, and al dente noodles. Baby loved it too. The fish was no joke. Perfectly fried, large and flaky inside. I couldn't decide between hot sauce or malt vinegar, but since the order was so large, I kept switching. The $17 price tag for the fish and chips made me hesitate but I am glad I trusted the reviews. It was an excellent meal. My hubs enjoyed his Heart-Attack Mac ($16), topped with pulled pork. Baby liked the pork too. Smoked and pulled, but not spicy. I didn't find the mac N cheese spicy, just the sharp cheddar taste, but not too sharp, as some can be. My husband had a Crown and ginger, which topped our bill off at $65 when finished. I think my sides were an up charge, but he didn't let me see the bill so I don't know what his drink was, or what accounted for the additional $19. I just caught a glimpse of the total. A bit pricey, but the quality is there, for sure. The waiter had was odd, but was attentive. It seemed like he was annoyed that we weren't order appetizers and trying to up sell when we ordered. I have no problem with it, but shouldn't get side-eye and a tight smile if my answer is no thank you. Great place, downtown eatery. We will definitely visit again. read more

The food is good. The wait was a little long and the prices a little high. It's good for lunch though because it's usually not too busy.

We happened to be in the area doing a burger/brew tour. This brewery was on our way so we stopped in to check it out. I couldn't believe how large this brewery is in size. They have multiple seating areas and we decided to take a seat at the bar. We sampled a few of the beers before making committing to a full pint. They have a nice selection of beers to please everyone. We enjoyed learning about the brewery and met a super nice couple at the bar. We enjoyed have a few beers and chatting it up! lol They food coming out the kitchen looked pretty good. Next time we are in the area, we will most definitely stop by for a bit and a brew. read more

We had a group of 4 on a Saturday night, they were able to seat us as soon as we walked in; no wait, and if they are busy you can call ahead to be put on a list. First time out in Jackson and wanted to check out the area. The brewery is located very close to the highway and only one block away from the cute little downtown shopping district; so it is in a great location! We sat in the bar area as it was midday and it wasn't packed. They do offer outside seating on the patio a well as in the front of the brewery. Our server was working the bar and the tables and he did not miss a beat, excellent service!! I had their home brewed IPA (Monkey mouth), which was very good and my daughter had the Grand River cosmo, also very good. We had the cheese curds as an appetizer, the wings plate and the pork shoulder which came with macaroni, cornbread and coleslaw. The wings were very good and the macaroni was good as well but I wasn't a fan of the pork shoulder (although I'm very picky when it comes to pork/bbq). My daughter took the leftovers home and enjoyed the pork. Cheese curds were awesome!! They have a section you can buy tee shirts/tanks, house made distilled alcohols as well as house made bakery items and beers. This is a fun and funky, well designed space. We went for brunch on a Sunday. I was a little disappointed to find out they could not serve bloody Mary's after 12 on Sundays. We did try Blanc Stare (Belgian Wit) and Old Rocker (red amber) brews and they were both delicious. The Bavarian pretzels, while forcing me to break my New Years's resolutions, were perfect. I got the breakfast power bowl, and it was way too much food. Enough for two people, plenty of veggies and rice. The eggs were a little undercooked to my liking. Overall the bowl had great flavor. My husband had the brisket breakfast burrito and it was massive. He commented it probably could had a little more sauce but it was good. I would definitely go back, but try new food options next time. With a great menu, it probably wouldn't be hard to find a winner. read more

I have been visiting this place since they have been open and I think it's fantastic. The food is always spot on. I especially like the smoked turkey ruben and you can't ever go wrong with a pulled pork power bowl. They always seem to have a great selection of beer on tap for us non-IPA beer drinkers (I especially like the Small Town Brown). As far as the service goes, we always consider ourselves lucky when we sit in Heather's section. But you really can't go wrong with any of the servers. The host didn't seem like he really knew what he was doing (called us up after 45 minutes and then realized our table wasn't actually ready, we watched this happen more than once in the 45 minutes we stood there) and there was a really loud band playing poorly (it's a restaurant not a concert, maybe turn down the sound system so we could talk at our table).
