The hostess sat us at the furthest table in the place. We walked by at least a dozen tables. Did I mention I'm handicapped??? The table was wobbly. We ordered the Brewer's steak to split but the waitress brought 1 steak knife and no extra plate. The steak came with au jus sauce not steak sauce but what concerned me was the steak had a sour taste and a lot of grissle. Ordered pop but no refill and fries were soggy not crispy. After using the restroom, I asked a server why they didn't have a handicapped toilet. Apparently that's another bathroom at another location within the restaurant/bar??? read more

Took a group of 12 for a late Mother's Day meal. Food was delicious as it always is. They were flipping tables after hosting brunch when we arrived and took our order not too long after being seated. There were several other large groups there and after an hour we got our food. The kitchen forgot 2 orders so they had to rush those to us after the first delivery. Server made sure we had everything we needed after that. Manager stopped by our table to apologize for the long wait. read more

Great brewery. I stopped in while in Jackson, it was a packed house on Monday! I was able to get a small table, and I enjoyed a flight of really good beer. They have a lot of darker beers on the menu right now and I like that. I ordered some appetizers to eat with my adult beverages. I ate the Asian cauliflower dish, deep fried, a bit heavy. Also ordered the pimento cheese app, came with toast and celery, didn't suit me. Service was great! The beers were outstanding, food ok. Look forward to my next visit here. read more

I can't say enough good things.... even if the food would have been terrible (which it wasn't) the service was AMAZING! I wish I knew our servers name but he was bar tending tonight, and him and the other guys behind the bar serving the high top tables communicated so well and made sure all of their tables were taken care of and the bar as well! I have been to this place many times and it is always good. Last night was a disaster. They decided to have a live band and he was decent. However, when they called us to be seated, they asked if we wouldn't mind sitting in front of the band. We politely told them we would wait for another table as we really wanted to talk amongst ourselves. 5 minutes later, they found us a different table.........exactly 10 feet away. It was not good. We couldn't hear anyone at the table. It was like going to a concert. We even mentioned to our server that it was too loud and she quickly agreed saying it was hard for her to do her job, too. We felt bad for her. If this is the new norm, we will need to find a different place which is sad because there are not too many options in the area. read more

When in Jackson, I alway stop here. Just a great place for food, great weather and friends. The weather was great, being from Texas, 83 at 4 in the afternoon is amazing! Had a michigan mule for starters, so good. Hit the spot right away. Couldn't pass up the Poutine as an appetizer. Those cheese curds, so good. I ordered the fish and chips and was not disappointed at all. The portion of the fish was amazing, and the batter omg! amazing! Overall a great dining visit. My friend and I stopped here as a midway break between Kalamazoo and a concert at Pine Knob (call it what you like, it's always the Knob to me). We sat outside in the patio, and had the waitress bring us the bags for cornhole, but we really only got to get few throws in before our food arrived. Those two things we ate really hit the spot. Always meant to stop here when passing on I-94...finally made it happen a week ago and are glad we did. Started with a flight. I won't bore you with a complete rundown, but will say we were very impressed with the Bashful Flapper ginger beer, Black Penny porter, and Dusk Heist saison. The saison was exceptionally full bodied for the style, and we ended up getting a pint to go with the salads we ordered for lunch (But--with asian food, the ginger beer would rock!). My wife got the Sante Fe salad (chicken, black beans, corn, spicy ranch, etc.--a version of the a southwest chicken salad you see in a lot of places) and liked it a lot--everything was fresh, and the toppings came in generous portions. I got the cobb, which tasted fine, but was noticeably smaller than my wife's salad, and I left the table hungry. We did have some problems getting what we ordered. Initially, the waiter brought out a pizza for me and a cobb salad minus eggs (the way I'd ordered one)--for my wife, telling her it was the Santa Fe salad she'd ordered. We told him we hadn't ordered a pizza and that the salad was mine, so he the cobb with me and took away the pie. When he returned, he gave my wife a cobb with eggs, and told her it was her Santa Fe. After we informed him it wasn't, he excused himself and left looking confused. Someone else, a supervisor I'm guessing, arrived and said he wanted to explain the difference between the salads. I pointed out the the difference was that mine was what I ordered and my wife's wasn't what she did. Like the server he seemed perplexed, but after a moment he acknowledged the problem and in short order brought out...a Santa Fe salad! That was kind of an odd occurrence, but as I said before the food did taste good, and the beer was excellent. We do want to stop again, though I'll order something with a little more substance. read more

Great place! This was my 2nd visit and it was even better than I remember. The service was very good (we even had a person training who was already very good at her job and knew the menu well). We ordered the chronic fries to start and they were delicious! I recommend them for a unique take on fries. We then ordered the fungophile pizza, the smitten pig pizza, the chicken peach salad, and the grand bacon jam burger. I could go on and on about each item, but everything tasted top notch. I love their pizzas. The toppings are always loaded and full of flavor. The crust could use a bit more flavor but it has a great crispy finish to it. Overall, I highly recommend Grand River Brewery and can not wait to try more of their menu! read more

My multiple check-in's here may say more about Grand River Brewery than what I can say in my review, but I'll attempt to elaborate. ; ) I recommend calling ahead for anything dinner related, no matter what day of the week. One weekday, we encountered an hour wait with a call-ahead. Yes, they were slammed on a weekday. In my humble opinion, this happens when something is really good, reasonably priced, with an awesome ambiance and waitstaff. GRB checks all those boxes. They don't serve outside alcohol - they are their own brewery and distillery, so there's no need. Their house whisky is actually REALLY good and smooth, and with a great price. All of the food I had was delivered quickly and as ordered by outstanding waitstaff, who were well acquainted with not only the food menu, but the adult flavored beverages as well. None of our questions stumped them even for a second. I do have one minor gripe, and I hope the management sees this. There is a potentially awesome bar area to the right when you walk in, that is completely non-utilized. In my opinion, this bar should be opened and well lit, as there is a window facing the entire county's main thoroughfare. The amount of revenue and advertising that would generate, I think would be amazing. But, there it sits, a darkened afterthought. In my opinion Grand River Brewery is currently the best place in Jackson to grab a great meal and a great beverage, and that's not something I often say. The food alone is worth the drive. Amazing atmosphere in a true brewery setting. HOWEVER: this is not the "first date" kind of place. The service is lacking at a fundamental level. If you dont mind waiting while the staff discusses thier day with the bartender. Not to mention the 25 minutes just to get water and then your order apparently, doesn't go to the kitchen. You will have a great time At a 100$ for 2 people with one drink, I'd rather roll the dice somewhere else. Lazy, lackluster service is easy to find. Then again, it is Jackson Mi. after all. When my father and I were in Jackson for an afternoon we wondered where we should eat. After talking to two people from the Jackson area, they told us that we needed to try Grand River Brewery. So that is exactly what we did. Upon entering Grand River Brewery you get the vibe of an old building that was converted into a brewery with a modern flair. The hostess was very nice and sat us right away. Grand River Brewery has tablet menus, and when you tap on the name of each item a picture and a description appear. After a little longer than usual wait for our waitress, she came over and took our drink orders. She had to come back a little bit later to inform us that they could not sell hard liquor in the afternoon on Sundays. They could not sell hard liquor because they did not have the proper license for it. Hopefully, they will be able to receive their license soon because this did detract from the experience. My father was looking forward to trying the gin that they make. For an appetizer, we ordered the fires that they have. These fries have parmesan, bacon bits, and more. We asked to have the balsamic vinegar taken off and our waitress very kindly obliged. They arrived quickly and were very addicting! For our main course, we ordered a pizza, and it was delicious. The crust where the cheese and sauce were was incredibly thin, but the edges were very light and fluffy. I very much enjoyed the pizza and splitting it between two people was the perfect portion. We then asked if we could get to mini key lime pies to go. I was surprised but very happy, to find out that they still give them to their patrons in the glass mason jars even if they are to go. We ordered the mini pies for my mother and brother, and they loved them! Overall my experience at Grand River Brewery was very good. I like the atmosphere, the food was very good, and our waitress was accommodating. I will definitely come back to Grand River Brewery and hope that someday my town will be able to have a brewery as nice as this one! read more

Went on a Monday night. Fairly crowded but plenty of seating. They were out of pulled pork (on half on menu items). Manager substituted the brisket for same price, usually 6 more on each dish. Then he came over to explain how he was out of pork. Great guy and businessman. Passionate about food and his job. Beer was also very good. Given the size of building I expect a much larger dining room, instead most of it taken up for retail and private dining rooms! The food here is so delicious and not bad prices for the quality and decent sized portion. The home brewed beer is delicious and for the amount was pricey but still not as much as other pubs that are similar. My server was Melissa and she was very friendly and helpful. The music group there was a new country acoustic duo and the music was fantastic. There is a mixed crowd with some youngsters and some families and some old fogies like me. So I didn't feel like the old man at the edm club here. Overall a pleasant experience. read more

Well where do I start with this place? When you have a group of people who are in a packed bar have to raise their voices to communicate, and get cut off by a manager for "complaints". When a table of 13 spends more than $300 dollars on food and drinks and don't even get a warning if you are being loud. The unprofessional behavior of the manager is a slap in the face of guests. The waitress, Layla, did a fantastic job and was undercut by a petty manager with little experience. I live in Arizona and my friends suggested this place, I will never patronize this business again as well as the other people who were there.
