Shocking to see reviews this bad. I came for the Minnesota staple Walleye and Chicken wild rice soup. Was very upset when on Google Map menu the walleye "fingers" was $7.99 and it came up to be $16.99. Would have been a 1-star if the fingers didn't come out to be excellent and succulent, beating the best fish and chips I have ever had. Wonder it was the freshness of the fish and high level of fat that made it so delicious. It changed my impression of fried food in the region, the cheese curd I have had was awful. Still the walleye fingers would only warrant a 3-star since it was not only priced much higher but also came out way fewer than the price tag warrants (a whole fish is only $25ish in restaurants). The chicken wild rice soup knocked me over. It is the best "chowder" I have ever had, though I couldn't tell whether there is chicken nor wild rice in it. It was rich and creamy yet not too much, savory seasoned. read more

The food is atrocious. Had breakfast this morning eggs. Benedict, the ham was hard and full of fat and it was cooked on Swiss cheese. Who does that hash Browns were cold asked for a small glass of orange juice received a very large glass with ice in it, watered down and tasting, very terrible server was fine, did not drink the orange juice had to have her. Advertise bar it's always been open till midnight and then when you stop in at 10:20 you're yelled at and told how they're done with their day despite a full bar. If you want to get blamed for their shitty night. Try the bar at Grandview bar and Grill. If you show up close to 10, they will yell at you and tell you that it's no longer a bar and make you feel like you're the bad guy for stopping. read more

Just a good friendly neighborhood bar & grill but with some of the best onion rings around and real good burgers too! The free popcorn is always a plus and tastier than most. The food was tasty but VERY slow to come (took about an hour to receive and it wasn't even busy). The service was terrible. (Olivia was very nice but needs some serious training.) Inaccurate beverage was brought. She failed to return at any time once we placed our order and waited an hour for food and then didn't return again until the bill was brought. I had to fetch our own ketchup from the back area. A second beverage would have been appreciated. We were celebrating a birthday and there was no recognition nor appreciation of this, let alone even any extra effort to make it a particularly good experience. There was no clear signage indicating whether you should seat yourself and wait to be seated. Despite being only about 3 tables of people, the atmosphere is loud (in the restaurant area). Went to the new Grand View the other night for dinner. There were six of us eating, we ordered six different dinners, from BLT, hamburger, walleye, hot turkey, meatloaf, dinners. All of them were excellent, with generous portions, I highly recommend. Very good experience, and our waitress was awesome also! read more

My in-laws who are in their 80s wanted to go here for Thanksgiving. The bill for the six of us was around $90 and we had two sprites and two coffees. It was very old-school, down-home cooking. I am on a food plan and I have to eat a certain amount of vegetables and protein and avoid sugar and I did just fine. My family is all for the fats and the sugars and they did just fine too! The servers were very friendly although I did have to go to the bar a couple times to get cream for my coffee and to get a refill on my coffee, but they were very gracious and it was very busy. read more

Apparantly the burgers were supposed to be "Hand Pattied" but really, they are not, they are pre-made and not that great. Burger was way undercooked, their "House Made" Blue cheese was not house made either. Very disappointing. There are much better options in the area. It is a very Clicky place also, if you aren't a regular there in the bar, you feel like an outcast. Although the server was outstanding, the food definately left something to be desired. read more

This is one of those hidden gems hidden in plain site as it sits just off of 35 W outside of Duluth. From the outside, well, and the inside, it's nothing eye catching with its 90's style Bird's Unlimited decor in the dining room, to the close-to-derelict outdoor facade. One wouldn't think this simple looking restaurant/bar would make THE best burger in town as well as a Buffalo wrap with a side of house made blue cheese that is worth returning over and over again; trust me, that's exactly what I do! The food is nothing extravagant, but each item is done to perfection (except the stuffed mushrooms, I'd skip those) I have tried a dozen things off there menu, and nothing has disappointed. My niece and I called in an order of 2 salads that were to be ready in 20 minutes. We went to pick them up 20 minutes later. A server approached and asked what was needed. My niece explained that she came to pick up an order and gave her name. She waited for about 10 minutes until a different server asked what she needed. She repeated that she was there to pickup an order. 10minutes later she was approached by a third server with the same question. She came back a few minutes later and said they had no order for two salads, but could have them done in 30 minutes. We left as this was going in the wrong direction and as POC, we felt mis-treated. Stopped in for early dinner. It happened to be a 2-1 on burgers on the Monday we were there. Making this a very affordable meal. The location was on a golf course and a hill and had a nice view out the windows. Our server was very nice and accommodating. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The Dry dock has a great atmosphere but terrible food. Order a Pickled Crow and it came out cold as hell in the center. Sent it back and all they did was microwave it so the sandwich and fries turned to mush. Hate to complain, but went for dinner yesterday, what a disaster. Only table in the dining room and had two competing music systems blaring. Server tried to help, but the bar dominates here. Another table came in, told to sit anywhere and after 15 minutes they we never greeted. They walked out finally. Stopped on a Sunday for breakfast/lunch on our way home. Bloody Mary's were ok, if you like bland. The food was only ok as well. We had a burger and ham and cheese sandwich with chili. The food took a very long time even though the place was not busy. We watched a large group come in and not get menus or even greeted for about 25 minutes. Probably a great place to be a local watering hole for regulars. The bartender was very nice and attentive, if you were sitting right at the bar. From the decor, signs about the right to refuse service, and general atmosphere, I'd say they are very particular about the "customer base" they prefer. read more

I ordered the hot turkey sandwich. It was extremely salty and the gravy was "grainy". The potatoes were the only thing that could be eaten. I had the waitress take it away and told her how displeased i was with my dinner. She deducted my beverage. NOT HAPPY. If I could have rated it a zero I would have. First the wait staff, though somewhat friendly, was lost in his own world and did not check back on us unless we flagged him down, and even then he would walk by us like we did not exist. He would hand our food over another person which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, rather than walk over towards me to set the plate down. It is rude and disrespectful - besides why would I want my food passing in front of another person's face - and the kicker was "the plate is quite warm" as it was handed to me. Now lets get started on the food. Salads, check. Cannot really screw that up. Bread, check. Was good especially with the butter. Baked potato, check. Done. Waffle fries. check - can't screw that up. Cheesy hash browns - looked disgusting. You would think that you could make cheesy hash browns look good. It was a glob of hash browns with a square piece of melted American cheese on top. That is NOT cheesy hash browns! That is just gross. The hash browns were crispy (plus) but the cheese looked like it had sat on them while the rest of the food was cooked. Very unappetizing. I make better cheesy hash browns at home than what I saw - which was a flat greasy blob of shredded potatoes with again a square piece of cheese. Three of us ordered garlic butter steak - which I will get to in a minute. One at our table ordered a Philly steak sandwich. What can go wrong? Looked good. . . until you bit into it. Does the chef not know how to cut meat? That sandwich required more chewing muscles than a cow had trying to chew its cud!!! It could not have been much tougher. Watching it being eaten was just painful! Now you ask about the garlic butter steak? It was a 10oz sirloin - which I know is not the best type of steak but it is better than a flank or round. It was, of all the horrors, flat ironed cooked. Uggg why would you do that to a steak??!!! Then instead of sautéing the garlic (fresh) in butter and braising the steak or poring it over it was a couple of tablespoons of jarred minced garlic thrown on top of the steak. So where do I start? The meat was over cooked because it was cooked too fast and I had ordered rare and it was well done on the ends and medium rare to medium in the middle. It was inedible with all the garlic on it. Even after scraping it off the garlic had an off taste that was both bitter and rancid. Partly because the garlic was not cooked but partly because the garlic was not fresh! I had to SAW through my steak as it was extremely tough - again partly because it was cooked to fast. Two of the three choked through our meal - I just could not and was going to bring it home to feed the dog but thought against it. They did give me a refund for my steak and asked me if I wanted to order anything else (ha! no way!). The other two didn't finish the steak but ate most of it and complained all the way home. If you decide to take your taste buds here be careful and I would avoid ordering the steak. I will not be back there are too many other great eating places around the area that it just doesn't pay. I love to cook but it will be a while before I decide to eat something with garlic again. I don't buy jarred garlic and this just solidified that I will never buy it. The cook needs to go back and learn the ABC's of cooking, as well as the wait staff needs to learn the ABC's of waiting on tables. read more

When will I learn my lesson? Everytime I go here I tell myself I'm never coming back again. Then somebody I know will say oh this was great or that was great you should try it and I go back again. This time I went for breakfast and tried their corned beef omelette. Could have been awesome. But it fell flat and was just ok. I think the corned beef came from a package of deli sliced corned beef from hormel or something. The service was deplorable I don't know what this restaurant intends tself to be. This was the WORST restaurant experience of my life! Do not go here. Waited 30 minutes to get anyone to take our drink order and 90 minutes to see any food, even the cheese curd appetizer we ordered. Never checked on one time in between to see if we needed more coffee or soda. We couldn't even find an employee to wave down to see what the hold up was! Food was absolutely terrible and cold, and 2 of us had ordered the lunch "special". A horrible experience... Great bar food. The burgers were very good, I had the Cajun fries with my pepper Jack burger and they were fantastic. My wife had a burger with German mustard ham and sauerkraut, she loved it. This is definitely not fine dining but the food was good and it was nice place to hang out for a bit. read more

Don't bother. Stopped in tonight to give them one last chance and I'll never go back. Service was, as usual, horrible. Ordered kids Mac and cheese, kids Hamburger, bbq rib app, a gyro, and a chicken sandwich. How it took 45 minutes to get this to our table is beyond me. People that came in after us were served before us. Even if they were short staffed the waitress sure didn't seem to care. When the food did arrive the meat was dry (I'm guessing it sat under a heat lamp for a while) and the fries were grainey and dirty tasting. Is it possible to give no stars? I guess not, but since the server we had was very nice I suppose Dry Dock can have one star... I'll put it simply, do not eat food at the Dry Dock. First, we ordered cheese curds, they came out very fast but to describe them I'll paint a picture of soggy brown carcasses that you would imagine cheese to be inside but instead you get some kind of bland barf. Next, we both ordered the beef and pork burger which is a beef patty with pulled pork on top. Disgusting . There was no flavor other than the dirty flat top they were cooked on, and the pulled pork must have been cooked in a crockpot and set to warm for about 16 hours. Finally, the fries. I always look forward to hand cut fries, but these things were flaccid soggy cold sponges with some dry cajun seasoning. The only item we ordered that we enjoyed were the waffle fries... This is the 3rd strike for the Dry Dock from a local. Never again. read more

Once we finally got a server, two of us got their special, and one patty melt. I ordered cheese curds as an appetizer. 40 minutes later, the app and "food" came out all together, cold. The curds were advertised as "real beer battered Wisconsin cheese curds".. You could have got these from your local freezer section. With the cold fries, I was able to wring out the grease from them like a sponge. My mom's patty melt was a burger with cheddar on it, no sauteed onions, as advertised. No one ever checked on us to get us drink refills. My dad got a $2.50 black coffee and never got asked for a refill. 3 people, no booze, the total was $50. Unbelievable. I had a really great patty melt here. Seasoned well and hand pattied. I'm not a french fry fan, but they currently serve fresh cut fries. The other diners at my table were satisfied with the exception of one. This diner ordered chicken fettucine alfredo and it just tasted like it came out of a jar. The service was attentive and quick. (However, it is VERY important to know what your bar carries on tap ESPECIALLY higher priced upsell local beer and spirits). A wait staff should never say 'I don't know' to that question. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Making a grilled cheese at home would have been a better experience. Made a reservation over a week in advance. Get there 10 minutes before the reservation to find out they don't have a table reserved for us. After an hour and a half of waiting we called the restaurant to ask if if was busy and we were told "no, it's winding down". It is absolutely ridiculous that it takes over an hour and a half to get our food when our table only ordered a quesadilla, pasta, and a chicken sandwich. After 2 hours of waiting for our food, we got up and started to walk out the door. We were stopped along the way as our food finally came out. Not to mention forgot about one of our meals and one had to wait an extra 10 minutes to get it. This is not the first time that we have had TERRIBLE service here. Drive back up to Cloquet and stop at Gordy's, better food and service. No questions asked, will never recommend coming here to friends of family. The only plus side to our stop today was our waitress, so thank you to her. A 1 star rate would be more then deserved so hopefully this review will still post with no rating. We decided to give it a try. I ordered ribs with a salad and au gratin potatoes. The salad was wilted and brown with stale croutons, and the potatoes were different temperatures, cold in one spot and warm in another even though the dish they were in was hot ( likely microwaved I'm guessing?) I didn't eat either of these. I mentioned the problems with the sides and the wait staff wasn't surprised at all, they said the salads were made that day but the croutons are always like that. I declined a new salad. I did eat some of the ribs, they weren't bad but the sauce was thick and stuck on in some spots, after the way it started out I couldn't get past wondering if they were old as well. We won't be going back, I feel like they don't care too much about the quality of their food. It's really unfortunate too because we live fairly close by and the prices would be reasonable if the food was good. read more

The food was surprisingly good, but the service was comically bad. We sat at a table that hadn't been cleared yet (it was the only one open), and after 5 or 10 minutes flagged down a server to ask for menus. He looked surprised and apologized and brought us menus. He did not take our orders until 30 mins after we'd sat down, stating that he thought the dirty dishes were ours and we were just waiting to leave. Apparently the fact that we'd asked for menus 20 to 25 mins prior didn't tip him off to the fact that we wanted to eat. Even taking our order he did not clear away the previous diners' dishes. At this point we thought it funny and were watching the clock to see how long it would take them to bus the table. Survey says ... 36 minutes (although he ever did wipe down the table). An hour after we'd sat down and still didn't have food we were joking about ordering pizza and having it delivered to us, or calling Jimmy John's. Our food arrived 1:12 mins after we'd sat down. Two of the five of us received something other than what we'd ordered, but we didn't want to risk a long wait for the correct food so we just ate what was put in front of us. Again, the food was very good - good burgers, moist ribs, etc. Just don't stop here if you're in a hurry or you're a germaphobe. read more
