This was a nice, cozy little wine bar close to our hotel. We had a long day and a big lunch. All we wanted was a glass of wine and a cheese platter. Walking up to Grand Vin, it looks like a home with a big porch. I find it interesting there are no "No see ums" or bugs out. There are people curled up in big chairs, sipping wine and relaxing. We walk in and the place is packed out. We ordered two glasses of wine and a cheese platter. I see a Tempranillo as a wine choice by the glass. I asked the bartender about the wine and he gives me a sample. Wow. We grab a table outside, drink our wine and the cheese platter comes to us. The bartender left the bar and bought us our drinks and explains the cheese platter is put together by a local chef, cheers! I have to admit, the cheese choices were pretty good. It was a lot of cheese! I had to bring it back to the room. The next day, I noticed they had a Frose on the menu. This is how chill Grand Vin is, we left the hotel pool and walked over for a frozen rose. Man, what a tasty drink! Grand Vino is laid back and the homiest wine bar I've sipped wine in. Drink by the glass or pick out a bottle from the racks of the really good wines that line the walls. The prices are more like a store than a bar. Super value. They open and they pour and you drink sitting inside or out. If you can't finish a bottle they'll stow it for your next visit. Very cute and quaint wine shop on Duval. We made this spot part of our Duval crawl twice. The staff was amazing. The frozen rose "Frose" was really refreshing on a hot Florida day and you must add the sangria topping to really get the full effect. The music was to our liking and although we did not sit on the front porch/patio, it's definitely a nice vibe to chill and people watch. This place gets an extra star from me explicitly for entertainment purposes. Grand Vin is a small wine shop on Duval Street with a bar that seats 4 and a table in front of the bar that seats about 8. They offer a plethora of wines by the bottle and a nice variety of wines by the glass. Although this is a true locals place, we were made to feel welcome. We met some interesting characters while we shared a bottle of wine. I can't even get into the funny things that we experienced because it was a "had to be there" situation, but let me just say that I would suggest stopping in there before you head to your dinner destination for a nice glass of wine and some interesting group dynamics. The Gal & I have walked by this place off and on for years, and always were going to stop in and check it out. And never did. So this time, The Gal made the Executive Order that we were going to the wine bar, and we were going now. Fine. 6 or 8 years ago, we probably would have loved this place. But having played with our palates, plus now living where we can go on winery tours whenever we want, it was a bit disappointing. I didn't expect a bunch of Keys wines, but I did expect that they would have a selection of things that I wouldn't be able to find in any decent liquor store in the country. And paying $3 for tastings? No...not for a sampling of several wines...a "tasting" is any one wine of your choice. Or $8 (or whatever) for the glass. That's not just cheap, it's gauche. We made the best of it by ordering two exceptionally ordinary glasses of wine and sitting on the front porch, watching the newbie tourists (and the low-life tourists) go by while the sun sank a little lower in the warm afternoon sky. And then we went back to the cottage and The Gal cooked mussels and served it with our own damn wine. And it was better. read more

No. no, no, no, no. We wondered here to get a bottle of wine. There was a man and woman working, neither of whom paid the least bit attention to us, even as we were trying to buy wine. I was going to just walk out, but then thought no... I'm not going to let them win. So I pressed the issue and finally got a couple of overpriced glasses of wine. They did not like anyone not a local. So the Italian red wine comes out at about 40 degrees.... fail... just fail. We sit outside and try to warm it up. The lady working there reaches over me for something... no excuse me, no acknowledgement at all.
