Stopped in here for a home cooked breakfast my husband got the egg and ham omelette it was packed for of ham and was good . I got the ham and eggs the ham was huge and great Smokey flavor I enjoyed it . There is a lighter menu which had half order I would do that next time . The portions were huge and was it was good. The decor is old pictures a few I remember seeing at friends house when I was growing up. The bathroom had these rag dolls my mom Used to make . If you're looking for a little town old fashion small restaurant. This is it . The service was great and friendly. I won't pop in here again . You will not be hungry after you leave I promise:)

A hole in the wall off the road. Food was AMAZING and ginormous portions. The best part was the service by the nicest, kindest grandmas. If you're passing by seaside or going there, definitely stop by for breakfast.

Found this spot on Yelp. Very happy we chose it! Home style cooking, plenty of choices. And they serve both breakfast and lunch all day. Great friendly service.

Love this place! Old school diner feeling!

New owners but same GREAT food and service! Not only does the food never disappoint the prices are also affordable! My daughter said her burger with steak fries ($12.50) was the BEST she ever had and goodness has she had a lot of burgers! I had the special which was half eggs Benedict half homemade corned beef hash and YUMMMMMM! Would absolutely recommend!!

It was basic food similar to Denny's but prices were 50% higher in comparison. It wasn't bad but not good either. Staff was nice though.

That's why I've decided to stop hurting myself and go to the Chalkboard Cafe instead. The difference in quality of ingredients and cooking is apparent in the first bite. It really is a bit jarring. This restaurant makes everything from scratch, and I mean everything. Yesterday my son and I got two burgers and our potato salad and coleslaw sides were like sides my mother would make in her kitchen, not globs of shelf stable Reser's food-paste that were made two states over a month ago and sprayed with mortuary chemicals to stop their decay. The food at the Chalkboard is real food, not fake food, which brings me to my next point, dietary restrictions. If I had any dietary restrictions whatsoever, gluten sensitivity in particular, this would be where I would go for breakfast or lunch in Seaside. Chalkboard has gluten free biscuits and gravy available, delicious GF naan bread made by hand, and gluten free versions of popular bakery goods made in their small kitchen from scratch. Even if you don't have restrictions you can be assured that your meal will have 80% less total ingredients just based on the restaurant's ethics alone. They aren't taking shortcuts, they aren't bringing junk into the building in the first place, so junk never ends up on your plate. The service is stellar, the ambiance is charming and clean. You're out of excuses. You were wondering where you should go to eat, and now you know. Go to the restaurant where the locals take their own families - the Chalkboard Cafe.

But I didn't care too much for the flavor. Genuinely not good. And the cream cheese it came with, zero flavor, which was easily remedied by adding my own salt. The ambience and decor was quaintly charming, at first. But the more I looked the more understood that everything was creepy. Like witchcraft creepy.

Turns out they keep it raised until about 4 o'clock while they brew beer behind the theater, then the screen comes down later for basketball, games, and movies. Honestly, that just made me appreciate the place even more. I walk all over Seaside trying different spots, little hidden places, tourist places, all of it, and somehow this still ends up being my favorite lunch spot in town. The food never disappoints. Ever. The prices are shockingly good for what you get, and they somehow manage to get food out fast without sacrificing quality. What I love most is the space. Even when town is packed, you are not jammed in elbow to elbow with people. Families, kids, locals, everybody just looks comfortable there. Big open historic theater, great food, quick service, sports on the screen later in the day, and good atmosphere without the chaos. Screen up or screen down, this place is one of my favorites. Big Kahuna Pub and Grill has been serving Seaside since around 2007, and somehow it still feels like one of those hidden little local secrets you have to hunt down to find. The place is small, busy, and definitely popular with the locals, so things might take a little longer when the crowd rolls in, but honestly that is part of the charm. Everybody seemed friendly, laid back, and happy to be there. Five stars just for the atmosphere and kindness alone. And then there is the Bloody Mary. Good grief. The thing comes stacked with enough food to count as lunch, including the famous burger sitting right on top. It is one of those ridiculous creations that sounds crazy until you see one go by and suddenly every single person in the restaurant wants one. Their Bloody Marys have basically become coast legend status at this point. The menu itself is pretty simple and straightforward, burgers, comfort food, drinks, nothing overly fancy, just solid beach town food done right. Sometimes those are the best kinds of places anyway. If you are wandering around Seaside and want something that feels more local than touristy, give this little hidden gem a try.
