I will start off by saying I truly like greasy diners. And good hashbrowns, can make a great diner. But this is not a great diner. I sometimes say that fried eggs are hard to ruin. But once in awhile a place will manage this feat. And Grandma's Kitchen has done so. There was something odd about the taste of the eggs and hashbrowns. The restaurant is fairly cramped and the seats were a bit sticky. The service was fine. The food seems to have been transported in a time machine from the 1950's. It is okay, but not great., and not terribly exciting. For example, the salsa that came with my taco salad was obviously Pace picante sauce (which I don't really care for) direct from the jar. Having said all of that, I do appreciate what this restaurant does for the Korean War veterans who meet there every week. The owner deserves praise for that. Stopped on our way through for breakfast. Me and my husband had eggs and bacon.. we are on somewhat of a diet..no sugar and go grains. The eggs were not greasy and good, bacon was good but could of been thicker. The server was really working hard and did a great job. It was a busy place and you don't wait to be seated, find yourself a table. The foyer (first impressions are important and it was dirty looking) needs cleaning and the collectibles up front needs cleaning, but the importance stuff was clean,etc..silverware, cups, table and the floor is worn but did look clean. Must be a favorite with the locals. You could tell the regulars because they came right in and sat down, as for visitors like us, we kinda wait until someone says, sit anywhere you like. Oh and the bathroom was clean and smelled nice as well. I wasn't impressed with the coffee, typical black water with not much taste. I wish restaurants would pride themselves with good coffee, cause coffee drinkers know the difference in a "good" cup that is full of flavor and just black water without taste.. but overall it was ok. I gave Grandmas Kitchen five stars for several reasons. First we are talking about an old hometown diner. If you are expecting some sort of high end old fashion cooking you're looking to the wrong place, this is a diner in every sense. The menu selection is what you would expect, the daily specials never disappoint, they have wholesome choices and the daily soups are great. If you want a good cheeseburger, fries and a malted milkshake or hot beef /hot turkey sandwich or an excellent breakfast this is your place. The new owners do a fantastic job! I love that they did not change much about the menu and even upgraded a few of the menu items. They go out of their way to please you and are as friendly and welcoming as can be. We have very few choices in Rochester for these types of restaurants/diners and I will not name the others, I will only say this is the best and when I go here I definitely feel like I'm going to grandma's kitchen. read more

Took my two kids here last Saturday afternoon. Waitress came right away with water and menus, but then disappeared for 20 minutes. I finally got up and found her saying we needed to order. Went here for Breakfast. I`ve lived in Rochester since late `96, and I have to slap myself for not ever checking out the breakfast here. I ordered the Steak and Eggs with a short stack of pancakes. Steak was tender and juicy. Eggs were over easy and fresh and tasty. The pancakes were super good, but I was already to full to finish them! A quaint diner style restaurant with good food at a great price. Their sandwich bar menu is fantastic and both the ham and cheese as well as the Rueben that I tried were fantastic. You get the feel that the people who work here care about their job and this place. It felt like going back to a local diner back home. What a great little "Diamond in the Rough" in Rochester, MN. Had some time to kill this morning and stopped in. Really glad I did, reminded me of when I was growing up in NC and the small town restaurant feel. Very positive, friendly place to go. Great breakfast, cooked perfectly, tasted great, and the coffee kept coming which is fine with me. My favorite new place to come in the mornings before work now. This place is in the old silver Lake shopping center, it's easy to miss but the food is like the name says, basic home style. Atmosphere is the same. The service is friendly and fast. The menu is comprised of Midwest comfort food and the prices are extremely reasonable. The service is fast and friendly- try striking up a conversation with one of the servers and you'll also get a good dose of Minnesota nice. Plenty of regulars come in to entertain you with their conversations. The portions are generous, but the food is just meh. Super cheap but that reflects the vegetables likely having come out of the can. We have been a couple of times, my husband likes the fried chicken, but I have been indifferent with the hot beef sandwich and meatloaf. Went here for the first time tonight, it was delightful. I got the hot beef sandwich and it was to die for. Definitely recommend it, a great portion for a reasonable price. Plus, it was SUPER yummy. My boyfriend got the cod filets and they were pretty good but the coleslaw that came with it was the star of the dish. I love me some good homemade coleslaw. Service was excellent too. Ate at Grandma's Kitchen of Rochester LLC​ tonight. Ordered the 1/2 pound Cali burger and fries. Paid extra for cheese which didn't even cover the burger. The bun was a little hamburger bun out of a plastic package, since I ordered the big boy size the burger was about twice as big as the bun which made it almost impossible to eat. A frozen unseasoned patty of beef with an inadequate sized bun doesn't = a "burger". read more

Very affordable! Staff was very nice and helpful. I ordered the Deluxe California Burger. Don't go for the 1/2 pound. It won't fit the bread bun. The fries were awesome. Taste better than McDonald's. Very homestyle atmosphere. Did not expect all the beautiful paintings. So I was surprised. People eating there seem to be nice people. We felt comfortable eating there. Grandma's Kitchen- Yum it's like Grandma cooks. As I took a look around while eating with my Father for Lunch I noticied an older crowd,construction workers,and a mayo crowd what a mix. I ordered a Grandma's Burger with fries Mary(our waitress) asked if I would like to try a Choc.Chip Grandma's cookie. Wow was I glad I oredered the cookie,It was by far better than any other business around.Didn't say better than my mother's but still great.
