Finally tried Grandma's Secret after my friends ranted and raved about it. We stopped by for a late lunch/early dinner on Saturday and were able to be seated no problem. We got the Uzbek bread to share which was fluffy and salted well. For my main entree I got the beef kebab which was also yummy. I thought the beef was a little dry but it came with a tasty salsa like sauce, raw onions, and some delicious potato wedges. The service was great and all the food came out quickly. Also pictured is the manti , which is a beef dumpling, that my friend got and said was delicious. I will definitely be back to try the rest of their menu, especially the yummy looking soups! Was my first time trying food from Uzbekistan and was delightfully surprised. All the food was very aromatic with refreshing herbs and spices. It was funny because it was also the waiters first day working there but we didn't know until we thanked him for the experience after the bill . He was extremely helpful despite a bit of a language barrier, he guided us on what to try. He gave us this red fruity tea that was AMAZING perfectly sweet. He was so happy that we liked it said people usually don't order it unless they know about it. The fried lagman was a dish I had never tried before, it had these crepe like noodles that were yummy. I enjoyed stopping in here today for lunch. I had no clue that their food was so good. This is a small and cozy Uzbek restaurant that serves freshly made food from soups to kebobs. The service was good. I was given a menu. I asked if they had soup today. The server showed me the page share their soups are. Evidently they always have fresh soups. I liked that they include pictures on their menu so you can see what each item looks like. I ordered the chicken soup and a beef Samosa. The soup was perfect. A nice hot clear chicken broth with pieces of dark meat chicken, carrot, and potato. I will be ordering this again. The beef Samosa was surprisingly delicious. I was expecting ground beef and when it arrived it had small pieces of beef and onion inside a crispy shell may was soft and chewy inside. The tomato based sauce for dipping was fresh as well. Comes get a taste of the unusual at this restaurant. They serve up some mighty good Uzbekistani food. Great menu with a nice selection of salads, main plates, appetizers and some desserts. When I went there were a few selections that were not available. Indoor and outdoor dining is available but in either case it's limited. Prices are reasonable. There should be plenty of parking out back and they are open usually from 10am to 10pm. Service was inconsistent but friendly and I would like to see water served in normal glasses instead of being charged and served in a plastic water bottle. Standouts are the Plov, the Crispy Eggplant and the Mushroom and Potato appetizer. Kebabs look fantastic but didn't get around to eating one. Somewhere between Ft Lauderdale and Hollywood, this gem awaits you. I wasn't too excited about visiting an Uzbek restaurant, mostly because I was tired and not thinking straight. Thank me now for editing out 100 words about Central Asia. All good stuff, but boring. This spot is excellent. When I taste the beef and onion pastry called samsa and the lagman or the pilaf, I seriously see myself in Uzbekistan. Just kickin' it in a small town digging the scenery. Everything in here is so delicious, you can trip! The lamb kebab was tender, flavourful and worthy of eating slowly and savoring every bite. The manty dumplings, too. I would definitely return to Grandma's Secret for the food. It was well made and very tasty. We ordered the mushrooms and potatoes just because another appetizer they had on the menu was not available, but they ended up being a stand out and everyone at the table ate them. The chicken sandwich was also very good. Service was fast and they brought the food right away. The rest of the experience was not great, though. We arrived half an hour before closing time and the woman taking our order was pretty snippy about it. We said we would order and eat quickly, though, so she took our order. She also didn't bring or offer us water, even though we were eating at the restaurant. We had to ask, and then she brought out two water bottles for 4 people, with no cups. The bathroom was also a bit weird because it was around a back door behind the restaurant that led into the back hallway behind the kitchen. After a hectic day of paddleboarding in severely windy conditions at West Lake, my friend and I desperately needed some refueling. We tried to go to Jackson's, because I had never been, but the line was out the door, so it looks like I'll have to keep waiting... I pulled out my phone and found an Uzbeki restaurant close by. Since I had never had that kind of food before and had no idea what to expect, I decided to go check it out. Grandma's Secret seemed to be just that... There were a couple customers but the place wasn't full. At the time, they had only been open for a few months, but I expect by now, the word has spread about this slice of unique cuisine and hospitality. There was seating inside and out, but we had our quota of sun for the day, so we sat indoors. The place was decorated in traditional Uzbek style, with fired ceramics and different ornaments, giving a very homey vibe. The brothers arguing and joking in the kitchen also provided a family atmosphere, reminding me of large family gatherings where food and festivity were the order of the day. We ordered the cheburek, a deliciously seasoned meat and cheese stuffing in a fried, crispy pie shell. To call this an empanada would dishonor the flavors and textures of this offering... We also ordered the steamed dumplings and samosas. These were also very well seasoned with hints of fennel and herbs throughout. And finally, we had the Tashkent pilav, which was a savory mix of rice, lamb, and vegetables, which was also amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the there was a relatively short wait time for the food to come out, considering everything that we ordered. We were able to speak with the manager and learn a little more about the restaurant and the history of the food. That only whet my appetite to return and try more things on the menu. I ordered the spinach pie- came out warm, kind of traditional spinach and cheese filling, similar to what you'd get at a Mediterranean restaurant. I really enjoyed the yogurt dipping sauce with dill the most, and used it on the plov. I also got the Tashkent plov, a traditional uzbeki dish. I had never tried it before, so I can't speak to the authenticity but I thought it was a little bland. I was expecting more flavor and spices. The rice was cooked nicely, and the lamb was tender. The food tasted home cooked and fresh. I can highly recommend the lamb skewers and the bread! My husband ordered another order of the lamb. I also really love the unique (at least to me) garnishes they have. There was this onion salad with dill and pomegranate and that thing HIT so hard! I want to try to recreate it at home. We are so happy we found this cozy and sweet restaurant. The Uzbek palaw is called "plov". We had the ayran drink which is yogurt based with basil and fruit. We also had the beef samosa, which was super delicious and baked perfectly. The chekurat is a fried empanada with a beef blend and was also fried to perfection. There was only one group at the restaurant but within 10 minutes a number of parties arrived for to-go and on site orders. Even though they have a small team, they were able to keep up with fast service. The menu is quite extensive and offers a lot of options. We had the Lagman and the Shurpa. Both options were flavorful. While prices are quite reasonable, portions aren't too big. So you may want to go with an appetizer to share and a main dish if you have a big appetite.
