SO GLAD we found this great distillery with a welcoming staff, happy to explain their gin and bourbon selections and hand crafted cocktails and mocktails. Amaya took care of us immediately as we got settled, bringing water and menus. The flights looked so pretty, so I chose the Spring Flight. Of these(see photos for names & descriptions) I enjoyed The Valley Girl most because I have a sweet tooth and both the black currant purée & elderflower worked perfectly together. Food was definitely in order for this flight, so I selected the Figalicious panini which featured prosciutto w/balsamic fig jam and goat cheese. It was the PERFECT sandwich for my flight! Hubs stuck with N/A beverages and enjoyed his Tropink hemp beverage and soda. My original plan was to enjoy the flight then select the full size cocktail of the drink I enjoyed the most (i.e. Valley Girl), but I wasn't able to follow through. The "flights" were such generous pours the panini wasn't absorbing the alcohol fast enough. LOL At $25 for the flight, I think this is VERY reasonable way to experience Freeland. The vibe here is casual chic. The furnishings are modern, comfy and BEAUTIFUL! From the front you can see through these MASSIVE windows into the working distillery, with its gleaming tanks. The displays are arranged in a way to allow the spirits to be showcased, but the bottles are so pretty it doesn't feel overwhelming or intimidating. Really well designed for a comfortable meeting place to drink, nibble and kiki, but if you want to impress OOT guests, Freeland Spirits would work for that as well. We heard this place was owned by women, so had to come over there and support them. It was such a highlight of our trip to Portland. We sat at the bar and each had two drinks. All were delicious. "Oh my ya!" Amaya, my whiskey, bourbon and gin tasting guide enlightened my taste buds on my tasting adventure. Each gin sip the taste of our natural world seeps through my gums as though I was walking in and smelling an old growth juniper forest (near Bend - been there down that). The burbon smooth and sweet aged with a taste of the Elk Cove biodynamic wine barrels was so good. Made my eyes pop and tongue drop as the bourbon filtered through the thousands of tongue receptors. Give me a shot! And I bought a bottle of cask bourbon. Halfway through my flight with Amaya I was feeling so good and happily buzzing. Hard liquor will make you whoopee quicker! For sure! I also bought the rye whiskey - milled with ancient grains at Oregon Camas mills - incidentally supplies the grains for many pizza and bread makers in Portland. Rye whiskey - 75% Organic Dark Northern Rye, 20% Organic Purple Karma Barley, and 5% Organic Buckwheat. Daily shots of rye whiskey and bourbon the Freeland Spirits way will make every day a better day! My wife had an IPA. Great vibe to come in for hard liquor or cocktails - beer and wine too. It's the simple things that make it a nice touch. One of the first things that I noticed was the planters inside the windows at this lovely establishment. They also had a wall of succulents that I thought were particularly stylish. But alas, I digress, let's get to the heart of the matter this women-owned and operated establishment in NW Portland. They make a couple of varietals of gin and bourbon here. I cannot speak to the bourbon but the gin was great. I love that you can select from the mini cocktails or tastings and build your own flight. We each had a flight on this day accompanied by seasoned popcorn. What a delightful idea. The atmosphere is what I would expect from NW Portland, a hip and trendy vibe. I really enjoyed our time there. At about 3 PM a lot of people started filtering in. As it turns out on Fridays and Sundays there is a tour of up to 20 people of the distillery. You can make reservations or take your chances but they recommended the reservations which I believe you can make online. We picked up a bottle to go. Also, we picked up some canned cocktails that they make there. It was packaged nicely in a box which was perfect. The attention to detail here is just great. What a gorgeous spot!!! Sadly I didn't get interior photos, but it's stunning. Clearly woman owned, designed and decorated. I have a very particular palate for cocktails and while a lot of their liquor doesn't appeal to me, I do love the flights they offered. They were all mostly delicious and adventurous as to flavors I would not have believed would be together in a drink! Not to mention SO cute. What's up: We're continuing our tour of Portland based on the Distillery Row Passport we were finally able to get. We decided to hit this place as our next stop since it's not too far from a couple others in the area. Parking: They have a decent sized parking lot nearby which seemed close to full when we were there. There's also street parking available. Environment: According to the Passport, this place is woman owned, cool! The sign at the counter said to wait to be seated. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. The merch corner is on the right and pass the doors, down the hall, are the restrooms. The dining area is located towards the left. Once seated, we were given menus to look over. What was ordered: - Freeland Flight (4 tastings) - Old Fashioned Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. Overall, the experience was nice. It felt more like a restaurant setting than a distillery since they had sit down tables. Personally, we're not fond of gin, but it was nice to try the different kinds. I won't say when I was in except to say it was very recent. I was trilled to see that they have a parking lot. This is a huge bonus considering where they are located. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was a shelf of stunning aqua blue bottles that I later learned was their Gin. I was the only customer there at noon that day I will not mention so I had fun chatting with the two bartenders. They were so friendly and were happy to tell me all about the spirits that I ordered. I ordered the "Whole Lineup" which consisted of Gin, Dry Gin, Geneva, Bourbon, Gin & Rose Tonic Cocktail and lastly the French 75 Cocktail. This lovey flight was only $15.00, which was waved because I bought two bottles. Since these two bottles are a gift, I wanted to taste them first and chose the ones that pleased my pallet, I ended up buying the Gin that comes in the beautiful blue bottle. I was also quite taken by the Freeland Bourbon was supper smooth I could detect a small hint of coffee as it rolls off your tongue. I thoroughly enjoyed the flight. It was my introduction to Gin, and it was super. I expect Josh and Chuck in Georgia, the hosts of my favorite podcast "Stuff you Should Know" will be very happy with this surprise gift. I am also happy to support a women owned and operated business. They know how to craft spirits well. Love everything about Freeland Spirits! They distill incredible gins and bourbons, make inventive and delicious cocktails, it's one of the few women owned & operated distilleries, the service is friendly and attentive, and the space is clean, bright and inviting. I've already been back with friends as I wanted them to experience and try the cocktails for themselves. I've told my friends in Lake O that we need to visit their second location later this month when they open. Yes, their gin is that good! Their flagship gin with hints of cucumber, rosemary and citrus along with juniper and all the other botanicals is my fave. It really creates a stellar cocktail! I used to be a Hendricks gal and now I am team Freeland! The blue color of the gin in the gorgeous raindrop designed bottles looks great on my bar, an added perk! A friend who doesn't like gin because it can sometimes be medicinal, loved their gin & rose cocktail and even bought a four pack to take home. Another friend raved about the Manhattan. Prices for the cocktails are also incredible; bars downtown would charge several dollars more. The venue is bight and welcoming with tables lined against the window facing the street. Clean lines and a mid-century aesthetic add to the vibe. The bar backs up to a window to the beautiful distillery where the magic happens. Definitely visit Freeland whether you want to enjoy a tasting or a cocktail. I wish they had a little more food options but I really can't complain! I will be back for sure. I first tried Freeland gin at a friends suggestion and fell in love instantly. A bright tasting room with big windows and a row of plants sits in front of the distillery equipment - fun to look at! I went with the "Oregon Summer Flight" - their best assortment of drinks - and quite enjoyed it. It was beautiful to look at and enough liquid to sip on for 1-2 hours as I got some work done. The green "forest" one was probably my favorite, but all were very drinkable, and I'm not even a big gin fan. I didn't have any of the light bites they offer, nor did I enjoy the spacious patio in the converted parking lot area, but both looked good. Bonus: they have their own parking lot! read more

Incredible woman-owned distillery I stumbled upon while in Portland. Everyone working there was super friendly, knowledgable, and passionate about the product they're putting out. The tasting flight has a few straight liquors on it but also cocktails (and quite sizable for a "tasting"!). The one item that surprised me the most was their small-batch Olea Amaro. Most amari I've tasted have leaned more into citrus or sarsaparilla flavors, but this one, made from olive leaves, had incredibly smooth earthy tones. Extremely sippable (and dangerous!). The owners of this distillery are having a lot of fun and being very creative with their products; check them out for something unique and special. read more

We've been wanting to go here since purchasing their Bourbon! We use it to mix with health aid's kombucha cherry citrus sour mix, bitters, and Mike's hot honey. A delicious combo. The ambiance was great! Modern boho. Music was straight out of my RnB playlist. Bright and cozy vibes. The Freeland flight was prettier than it tasted unfortunately. that flight alone, I'd give 3.5/5. It was good and worth a try, but I wouldn't say they were great recipes that I'd wanna get again. They weren't as balanced as I liked. Out of the 4, I like the one with the cinnamon sugar rim. But cocktails are subject to people's own preferences. You're just going to have to see for yourself. The whole lineup is a MUST try! Their spirits alone are so beautifully crafted. The aromatics and tongue feel is divine. If you're not a fan of gin, this is where you'd start. You should also really try old Tom style gins and gin by Aria! Then you can really see how diverse and complex yet delicate gin can be. Freeland did amazing in their distilling process. It was our first time trying a geneva (jenever/Dutch gin) and it was delicious. It was almost rye whisky like. The most surprising was their dry gin, it was smokey, almost mezcal like.
