Really nice patio. Happening place. Thought, how can I go wrong with a burger on a gorgeous evening? Asked for rare, came medium and cold, as were fries. Waitress offered to remake but as it was crowded and I already had a long wait, told her to just bring fresh fries. They never showed up and she never came back . Chased her down and she finally brought them. Then to make matters worse, she put an upcharge for subbing sweet potato fries after she made the offer. On our way out , I told the manager. He couldn't have been more responsive, offered to comp meal but as we already paid, he said without missing a beat, "If you'll come back, I'll give you a gift certificate for a free meal". Not a very welcoming.place. While the atmosphere is very homey, the staff are not friendly. I have lived in Glenview for 10 years. This was my first time and it will be my last. My husband and would I have stayed longer and spent more money. But our server forgot about us.. Compared to other Glenview restaurants this is one of the worst. read more

I recently moved to the area and my husband and I found ourselves searching for some bar food. We weren't looking for any michelin stars, just some tasty fried up food. I had a nacho craving so we ordered a nacho appetizer. Would have been nice if they'd added more than a pinch of cheese. I was hoping for some serious bar food nachos and these weren't even close. the majority of the chips had nothing on them and what little cheese there was, tasted like pre-shredded kraft "mexican" blend. The husband and I both ordered fish and chips. The fries were okay, nothing special, but the fish was so overcooked, it was dark brown, dry and tasted horrible. The waitress was polite, but didn't offer a refill of my drink (which I finished around the time the main meal arrived) until we asked for the check... and was nowhere to be found in the mean time. It actually angered me that I had to pay for such horrible food. I could have saved over half the money and bought something better from a fast food chain. read more

ok, it has Green River. Other than that the place is one big clique. The food is, at best, OK. The wings are smothered in a sauce that's WAY too hot, they pour a really bad Guiness. Unlike a real Grandpa would have, they have no loyalty to their staff...some of whom have worked at the restaurant for almost 20 years. While the new renovations make the restaurant look nice, the heart of the place is more lacking than ever. Separately, the food is okay (3 outta 5) but not good enough for them to disregard loyal staff and the customers who came to the restaurant specifically to visit them. I don't imagine this place surviving very much longer with that attitude. I guess time will tell! read more

Sorry had to give one star. No choice. With a group for dinner. Did not want to go because I had been sick after eating at Grandpas previously. We had burgers, at least the most of us. They tasted Sour like rancid meat we stopped min burger and we all were sick for up to 30 hours. We will never return and have contacted the health department. The website stated 11.95 for fish and chips which is why we ate there, but when the bill came we were charged 14 a plate. When showing their clearly posted website price to our waitress we requested that price be honored, but yet they refused. They decided to change their price this week but one would think they would want to honor what their current website states if they want a customer to return. Grandpa's earned 5 stars! My friend and I hosted a fundraiser at Grandpa's. The owners and staff were amazing. Since the event was a fundraiser, we were on a budget. Grandpa's worked with to create an awesome event that met our needs. They put together great decorations to make the rooms and tables look just lovely. Additionally, the bathrooms were kept clean and the bartender assigned to our party was cheerful and very helpful. The managers were attentive the entire night, making sure that everything was going well. We had a buffet style appetizer set-up. The food was outstanding! Overall, this was a great place to have a party! I will definitely be back here again! read more

Ok, admittedly I liked the idea of walking through the kitchen to get to getinto the place like Godfellas, until I realized there was an easier way to get from the tented area. And unlike some smuck places when they say they have a huge heated tent, they mean it! I loved the outdoor tented area where the band, The Kingfish (self promo) played. The inside of the bar was very cool as well. Very small, cozy place...the chicken fingers sucked ass, and the honey mustard tasted like whoa, but whatever. The had other meals like the Grandpa burger that was overpriced but looked huge...and no one could give an hit or miss opinion about the food, which is ok, i guess. It is right across from the metra, which is extremely convient for after work activites.The service was great, and again, the look and feel of this place is fantastic. the bathrooms are rather small and it gets tight and crowded really quick well events happen, plus there's no ATM! Clearly, we were in a neighborhood pub where everybody didn't know our names. Not a bad thing, just an observation. Huddled masses were conversing in the lounge area on a Thursday night, but the restaurant section and front bar were at about 30% capacity. Service was slow (one very sweet, hustling waitress served everybody), so it took a little longer than desired to order and receive a couple of beers and Green River (try it, you'll like it) at our table. The standard pub selection of food was on the menu along with a respectable beer lineup. Wings were tasty, thickly breaded, fried and tossed in a thick buffalo sauce. Chicken Philly, a special for the night, should be a regular menu item - very tasty. Reuben was on a hearty rye bread and featured generous serving of corned beef. Fries were thick and crisp with just enough salt. Hash browns were home-style, and you'll have to add seasoning unless "bland" is your thing. read more

The Celtic room on the second floor is the place to be for a party! We had a private event with 55 people and it went beautifully. The outdoor patio is part of this room so that opened up the movement in the room. The Megan and Chris were amazing during the process of planning. Food was great and the option to bring in your own desserts helps make it personal and special. If you are planning something soon, give Grandpa's a chance! read more

I had not been.here in 20 years before this review. I remember the hamburgers to be plump and juicy and the chili to be fantastic. Unfortunately, that was just a.memory. hamburger was cooked perfect but lacked some seasoning and chili was slightly above average. read more

I really love this place. Friendly, unassuming staff and bartenders. Very good food in a relaxed atmosphere, and a great deck to soak in some sun and suds. Whats not to like? I would give it five stars if they had a couple vegetarian options for my silly vegetarian wife. read more

I've been to Grandpa's place quite a bit because i'm a local and a big fan of the place. All the food is delicious, especially the corn beef with an old style green river to top it off. The workers are very friendly and always there to satisfy their customers. Grandpa's atmosphere is very family friendly. Even though i'm not of age, friends and family RAVE about the bar and night life Grandpa's place has to offer. Also, St. Patrick's Day is a big holiday for all the Irish owners. The restaurant/pub goes all out by setting up tents outside, having a live band and irish step dancers enterain and they also have face painters for children! So, if your in the mood for some good food, friendly atomsphere and workers Grandpa's place is the spot to go! read more

I recently attended a baby shower here for my daughter who came in from out of state. It was my first time here, but certainly not my last! The kitchen staff was able to tweak the menu to accommodate my daughter who to this day is a picky eater. The chopped salad was amazing, and the potato salad delicious. The mini burgers, mini corned beef sandwiches and mini pulled pork sandwiches all very tasty. A vegetable tray and fruit tray completed the meal as well as cheese fries to accommodate the mama-to-be. The room upstairs was warm and inviting, with access to an outdoor balcony.The linens coordinated with the shower colors and Meg K did an outstanding job decorating the room. The food was served buffet style in a room off to the side, where a candy bar and cake / cookies were set up. The manager on duty was attentive.Everyone had a great time and we were not rushed. The guests raved about the quality and quantity of food, as evidenced by the majority of the guests making a trip up to the buffet for seconds. I really cannot say enough about Grandpa's. I was truly impressed with the room, food, and willingness of the staff to cater to the guests. I would strongly urge you to check them out for your next gathering. Prices very reasonable. Definitely my go to place for my next event. read more
