Today, like so so many birthdays before, I celebrated with a dear dear friend at granlunds. I ordered the creamy cilantro grilled sammie! Heaven on a perfectly grilled sourdough. This was accompanied with a salad of lovely assorted greens with "top notch" ...and I'm picky, ranch dressing. Dessert was a German chocolate cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This shop is a horder's paradise! I went in there the other day to try some of their candies and it looks like Christmas just came and took a shit on everything! Every single surface is covered in Christmas decorations that you can buy. Although I wouldn't buy a single decoration due to the fact that I'd have to sell my first born child to be able to afford it. But that's besides the fact, I thought this was a restaurant and candy store. There was only one case filled with candy when I got there and honestly it wasn't even that good. If you want good candy go to see's, they have a much bigger selection and see's candy doesn't taste like it's been sitting there for a week. Now I can't really talk about the fact that this place is a restaurant, since they didn't even offer me a menu (honestly I found out this place was a restaurant when I came to write this review) but the woman who rang me up was nice. The rest of the staff hid in the kitchen while I was there. Bottom line, don't waste your time coming here for candy. It's not worth it! read more

Went here today to celebrate my nieces birthday. Got there about 12:30. Service was slow, but I assume only one chef/cook. Took almost an hour to get our food. The food was delicious and we all had a different meal. The really bad part was that it was FREEZING COLD in there! Ambience is great, and good food. read more

Today we tried Granlund's again. This is a local favorite that needs your support during this time. We tried several things today. The vegetable quiche, chili rellano casserole, turkey sandwich and the Sunday special menudo. All fantastic but the menudo was the star of the show. Take my review as only one persons findings. I will be as neutral as possible and only describe what I saw on that day on that particular trip. Your experience could vary from mine. We've lived here for years and never tried eating here until just recently. We were surprised when we walked in, not at all what we thought we would find. This time of year it was all decorated for the season. Thought that we had walked into a store instead of a place to eat. Never knew about the variety of quality chocolate they had here also. They also have cakes that are available. We had a beef dip sandwich with potato salad. The bread was amazing but the meat was just so so. It would be tough cooking meat made to order all of the time though. The potato salad is homemade and FANTASTIC. The best I've ever had. We ended up being the only customers left and we waited probably 10 minutes before someone came out to check on us, This was the only negative thing I can about eating here. First time here! Always wondered what they served at this place. Great breakfast & from looking at their lunch menu, it looks great too. The only negative about this place was it was cold inside. The waitress said because of the chocolates. I would have also liked our waitress to have known the history of the Grandlund's, she did ask the other waiter to give us a little history. read more

Cute place in Yucaipa! There were a lot of ladies lunching and having tea when I stopped in. Slower service but it's for good reason, they make everything as ordered. The cilantro chicken sandwich was good but plain. Potato salad side was better than the sandwich. I would still go back to try something else though. They are also a chocolate company and serve ice cream too! The rocky road ice cream was excellent but a bit expensive (4$ for a small scoop with cone). It's worth the visit! read more

My son asked me to pick out a special restaurant for an early Mother's Day meal. I'd heard of Granlund's , looked it up online & even called today to verify hours & availability. When we arrived from Banning, there were 2 empty tables. I was told they were reserved. The waitress said we could put our name on a wait list & it could be 30 minutes to 1 hour or sit out front on backless concrete patio benches facing the street. We came only for the atmosphere so I said we would wait. A cook or owner came out and suggested the street , but I politely said we'd wait. When the waitress spoke to the cook to write down our name, the cook said we could not have a "same day reservation ". It was basically sit on concrete benches by the traffic or nothing! What customer service!! So I've seen a little bit of inside, but will never taste the food. I would recommend you pass on this place! read more

This is a small place which is fine. It's decorated for the season with ornaments on Christmas trees that you can buy. It was a fun place to sit and look around at all the stuff. We sat right in the corner with all the different types of fudge. I think there were five or six different flavors of fudge. And then of course a bunch of other chocolates and treats. This is a sandwich place. All different types of sandwiches and salads. I substituted the pasta salad with a garden salad. I don't think it was a $2.50 side salad but it was good. The Sanfransican was the closet thing that represented a burger and it was pretty good. The produce ( lettuce tomatoes etc) were all fresh. The chef salad had a good amount of meat in it however it was a large bowl of greens. The greens way overpowered the ingredients of the salad. I know...it's a salad but everything should compliment each other. And this salad didn't. The medley salad came with pasta salad chicken salad and potato salad. It was extremely salty. Almost to the point of send it back inedible. And the service was so-so. It was fine. Nothing great. But it was fine. They post right on their menu that the food takes a while to get out so be patient and look around at all the decorations. read more

Adorable, small & unique. Loved the large portions meals, from salads and specialty sandwiches, to lasagna and quiche. The Tex Mex open face was awesome. Also, the Chilantro sandwich is a fave. The eating area is very small, about 6 tables. Great for a mother/daughter or ladies lunch. The decor is seasonal; like a fancy craft store. Almost all the decor is for sale. I'll post a few pics. Went to Granlund's a few weeks late for Mother's day lunch with my mom...she wanted to go here. She made reservations as she said it's a small place that can get crowded. I'd never heard of Granlund's, didn't know anything about its' history and can't say I'd ever been to Yucaipa so I didn't know what to expect. But it was to celebrate Mother's day so it was whatever my mom wanted. She has good taste so I didn't think it would be disappointing. When we arrived, we were seated immediately with our reservation; however, it wasn't crowded but that quickly changed. There were tables for large groups and then smaller tables. Not a lot of seating but enough to make it cozy. First let me say that the inside is so darling! The for sale decorations are so different and fun. I so enjoyed the atmosphere and that I could shop while seated. The menu items looked great but I went with the quiche that mom recommended and I wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious and, as we were there to chat and celebrate a belated Mother's day, our ice tea glasses were kept full. The staff was nice, checked in on us often but not annoyingly so and were friendly. The desserts looked delicious! I settled on a slice of lemon cake and mom had a multi-layered orange cake that tasted like an Orange-sicle. It was HUGE! Although I was full from lunch, I managed to eat my cake and a taste of mom's. She opted for a box for the rest of hers. After, we wandered around the store to check out the darling items. So many neat things! We purchased some cute items that we couldn't leave without and paid for it all at the door. I don't live in the area and never thought Yucaipa was a place to go but I'd definitely go back to Granlund's to try other dishes and, definitely, the dessert. read more

The owners and management of this resturaunt are rude and nasty; over the phone and in person. Their food is decent, although nothing to rave about, however their customer service is the worst in the Inland Empire. Also, the shop/restaurant makes them look like they belong on TLC's Hoarding: Buried Alive; so much junk all over the place and on the tables. read more

My wife and I have been eating at Granlunds for fifteen years. It's a charming restaurant with excellent food. It used to be filled with gift items for sale. A former chef has recently taken over the business and stopped selling gifts to concentrate on making great food. The sandwiches continue to be outstanding. The chili rellano continues to be different from and better than any I've tried elsewhere. The new owner has added brunch on the weekends which we tried today. I think it's a bargain at $14. In addition to the regular fare of pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and fruit, the brunch also includes a tasty lasagna, chili rellano (though in a different presentation from the regular menu, chicken enchilada, and two items I didn't try - pozole and menudo. Do not judge a book by it's cover. Beautiful old Victorian building, grandly decorated for the holidays. Wife ordered the eggs Benedict found the sauce was tasteless. I ordered the French toast with bacon and a side of scrambled egg. Bacon was cooked well beyond normal range, scrambled egg over done also. Amazing!!! Our Garden Club held our annual Installation Meeting there and had "High Tea" service for about 32 people..and it was incredible! The food was DELICIOUS..every bite was soooo yummy..and the petit fours, cream puffs, chocolate raspberry truffles, chicken salad, egg salad, strawberry/walnut salad, the fruit, the lemon curd..EVERYTHING was top notch! We had a party of eight with reservations on a Thursday at 11:30 when we arrived we were the only people in the restaurant service was very slow after we ordered it took one hour for us to get our food and six of us had ordered salads common!!! The food is excellent, service outstanding, but it's the themed decor that made this a unique and transcending experience. Food: My daughter and I both had sandwiches with potato salad. The bread was very fresh, which perfectly complimented the Chilantro (with an "h" per the menu for the green chili and cilantro filling) Chicken and perfectly seasoned roast beef fillings that were incredible. The potato salad was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We split a sundae. Dr. B's Java RX was the best ice cream I have ever had! Service: Very welcoming and friendly staff. Our server was attentive and professional. He timely anticipated our need for beverage refills and clearing our plates. One of the employees was kind enough to answer our questions about the history of the building*. Ambience: The place was decorated for the season with charming displays of matching table pieces, candies and desserts, stained glass windows, vines draping the windows, and cute floral displays. This forgotten gem in Upper Yucaipa is adorable. From the quaint decor to the retro music it is an experience. The breakfast menu was diverse, the service friendly and quick to refill the coffee. We tried the chicken chili omelet and a breakfast sandwich. Both were good, the omelet was especially tasty with flavorful potatoes on the side. They made baby pancakes for my one year old. The place is cute and quaintly decorated, but that didn't make up for the extremely slow service, especially since the place was only half full. The food was OK, but we had to ask for everything. Then went to check out and it took a full 10 minutes for the person working there (may have been the owner, nice, but very slow), to come over and take our money,(we went up to the counter to check out like she asked us to) When she took our money she asked each person brusquely " Do you need change back" like she expected a big tip. All total, 2 hours + for lunch. So don't go if you are really hungry or if you only have an hour for lunch. All in all a below par lunch experience. Won't be going back. So, here's the scenario: Went with my mother and a bunch of her friends for a fun 'tea.' Didn't know what to expect and was more than pleasantly surprised! What an amazing little gem that I would go back to time and again if I lived nearby. As it was I drove from Burbank to get there, and it was well worth it! Now granted we went there in the beginning of the holidays, so the place was totally decked out; to the point of me walking around taking pictures I could post! Beautiful decorations! But that was just the beginning: the food was amazing!! And the service: even better! We had 9 women over the age of 60 and then some, who were, to say nicely, a bit demanding. Our waitress was an awesome woman who took care of us above and beyond, which made the experience all that much better. And, Nancy the owner was there to help at an instance. The food here is really good. There's a little something for everyone from artisan salads and sandwiches to hot dishes like ravioli. They have extremely rich and decadent desserts. The decor is adorable and changes with the season and holiday. It's not a big place: probably has 4-5 tables with some being 2 seats and one or two seating up to 6 people and they have a small staff so it takes longer for the food if you go in there with a big group. This is a great place to have a small family meal or dinner with a friend or significant other. they also have an ice cream bar for those that want to pop in for a cold treat and they make and sell their own chocolates that you can buy individually or by the pound (similar to Sees). Alot of the decor is available for purchase: there are tea sets, ornaments, stationary, decorative figurines, etc. and these are also tied into the current season and holiday theme.
