Sit on the patio! 6 stars for the view. Friendly service, German beers on tap. Food isn't very vegetarian friendly but that's German food for you. We had Raddler, Lager and Diet Dr. Pepper. And the giant pretzel. Dipping sauces were good, especially the cheese and whole grain mustard. However the pretzel was deep fried. Not a fan, I expect my big pretzel soft. Amazingly scrumptious authentic German food! Cute restaurant with high ceilings AND a Biergarten! Convenient parking right outside the restaurant! Super friendly and knowledgeable service! Happiest accidental discovery ever! What more could you want? Admittedly...I was hesitant about trying this place because the space had previously been unoccupied for so long, and the restaurant that was in the space before the Haus was...less than impressive, to put it gently. But man what a comeback story! I want everyone to eat here now! And when you do eat at the Haus, make sure you get... 1) The pretzel you will ever eat. No, stop your protesting, I don't care how good you think the pretzels you had before were, order the one at the Haus. Yes it's worth $14. It's buttery, soft, crispy, and yet satisfyingly chewy like a good pretzel should be. Oh, and it's YUGE, like bigger than my face, and my partner's face, combined. Even the mustard and cheese sauce serve with it was awesome. GET IT. 2) The Haus burger. Or really any of their burgers. The patty was super juicy and flavorful and the proportion of the cheese, garlic aioli and vegetables were laid out so that you get every component in each bite. Just a really well constructed burger, and yes the bacon in this burger was shatteringly crispy (RESPECT) which normally doesn't happen in a big burger. I would definitely order this again and try their other burgers, and this is coming from someone who isn't at all a burger person! 3) The warm German potato salad. Yes, if you grew up in America, rid your mind of any preconceived ideas of what potato salad is. This is...I don't know if I would say better, but definitely refreshingly different. In place of mayo and relish you have potatoes cooked down with vinegar, apples, onions and bacon. The tart, sweet, savory and fruity notes makes this the perfect side to cut the richness of the burger I ate it with. 4) The apple strudel. OMG. First of all, again, MASSIVE - I don't think they know how to do small portion sizes here! But more importantly, absolutely delicious - the tart, spiced apples were soft but still had structure so they added texture, the raisins added both sweetness and tartness, and the phyllo crust was baked super crispy and golden brown and delicious. Aaaaannnd...take this as the ultimate compliment from an Asian palate - it was NOT TOO SWEET. *cue angels singing and emotional violins* With French vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect ending to the meal. Here's what we still very much enjoyed, with disclaimer: 1) Haus schnitzel - as the menu states, a bit different because there's coconut in the breading. I will also say that, perhaps because of this, the coating cooked up different than the traditional schnitzel "puffed and lifted" crust. So was it traditional? Not really, and the menu sort of said so. But was it delicious? Yes, we mauled the plate before we realized we probably should take a photo. If you're a fan of coconut shrimp, this is what it reminded us of but with juicy white meat chicken - which is hard to do since chicken breast is easy to overcook and dry out. Would order again. 2) Spaetzle - I personally really enjoyed how this ate with the schnitzel. The spaetzle dumplings themselves were nice and chewy and the light sauce they were coated in had a really good hit of nutmeg that I personally really appreciated. My partner, on the other hand, is accustomed to the spaetzle being pan seared in butter, herbs and onions/shallots. Apparently that's what he thinks is traditional but maybe it's a regional difference? In any case this could also just be a matter of personal preference. I wouldn't mind having this again but actually much prefer the German potato salad! That said...our first meal here and we're already thinking about when we're going to have our next meal here and what we'll order. I really hesitate to mention this place because I don't like crowds. It's a go to place now for my family. Nice ambiance, very unique menu, and everything made to your liking. Service is great, obviously someone running the place knows how to train their staff! If you catch happy hour you can eat first class food at low prices! My wife had the macaroni cheese balls , which were Luke cold and dried out, and a dinner salad, which was great.very good, I had the jeager snitchel, (sp). two large pork cutlets, the taste was good, however the meat was very tough. I expected it to be tender, unfortunately it was not. It was served Luke warm. The seats were of poor quality, very uncomfortable to,sit in for any length of time. Would I return? Probably not. The service was very good, quick to respond to our requests. We got there right at opening time, so this could have been the reason for the less than spectacular food. I thought the food was very expensive, for what you got. Next time I want some German food we will probably go to Georges. read more

Place is still working things out but worth the stop for dinner. We like the Calimesa location already and it's hard to beat the atmosphere of Oak Glen on a cool evening and that fresh mountain air. Pros: The fried mushroom fries with the aioli is our go to starter and is always good, the Haus Schnitzel was crispy and delicious, the cheddar brawt was very tasty and larger than we expected and the mustard it comes with is excellent, the German potato salad came out very different than expected, it comes as a refreshing wet dish of diced potato with lots of citrus and onion flavor served in small bowl and it was pretty dang good but not what you might be used to, and it was nice to see they had a couple German beers on tap. The building was also pretty cool, small but had some charm, a nice bar, and the patio and garden area out back are great. Appreciated the fact that they had a kid menu with a couple easy choices like nuggets and fries but had to ask for it. Staff was friendly and got what we asked for quickly. The red cabbage was ok maybe just not my thing but my wife didn't care for it either and there was a heap of it. Potato's were crispy and covered in parmesan. Portions I'd say were worth the prices. The cons I hope the owner/manager reads: First coming up at night you could not tell if the place was open. We saw a couple cars drive away after circling past the entrance and ourselves and another patron almost did the same. A simple neon open sign toward the parking lot would help out cause it was dead inside and the door is kind of tucked away from the driveway. For being a beer house they had a small selection, it looks like they're still getting their taps but for now only 3 and then a small can/bottled list (PRO was several good microbrews), all their cocktails are wine based so no hard alcohol on site. To be frank the tritip flat bread was awful. It had no flavor for the meat or other ingredients except for the peppers which were overwhelming the dish, not to mention the bread wasn't very thin like a flat bread should be, they're wasting dough making it more of a regular pizza thickness. The "Calikraut" that comes on the brawt was not worth it at all I don't think I'd get it again. It's loaded with fennel seed for some reason, so much so that it took away from the rest of the dish. Hard to go wrong with some more common staples people will be familiar with instead of these twists they put on them especially considering the amount of tourists that come through the area. Less can be more. The server NEEDS to know the menu and food more. We asked multiple suggestions of her and she didn't even bother to offer to go ask the chef or other workers what they recommended and told us flat out she didn't know and she'd never even tried several of the sides and main dishes showing no effort to go and learn. Every server should know their food. Building was definitely getting cold quickly even as some others came in and this was a mild night for December. Consider turning on that old wood stove even with a single log inside. Not a big deal but the tables are old, probably came with the building and can use an update but they we simple and clean, did the job, would recommend getting some old wood ones for the German beer house vibe. The music was on point, typical Oktoberfest German polka but it was loud and got a bit annoying by the end maybe add some other options or just tune it down for the small building. None of this is worth writing off this place. I really hope thy make it and can fix some of these especially adding more beer on tap, recommend leaning into more local themed foods and ingredients, tone it down a little on others, maybe get some fire pits for ambiance out front and back, hopefully end up with a full cocktail menu in the future. I look forward to coming back and trying something new as the menu had some nice sounding choices, but I think I'll mostly be sticking to basic French fries for the side dish. read more

We discovered this place while driving out of Oak Glen. It is a new not so hidden gem! The pretzel is the best I've had in the IE! The sausages and potato pancakes were so good. The owner was the sweetest too and took great care of us. My husband had a Hofbrau dunkel on tap and loved it. We will definitely be back.
