Here's the revised version with your burger comment added smoothly: Food: The food was good overall. Here's what we ordered: * Fried Pickles: I had never seen them served as spears instead of chips before. They were really tasty and crunchy. * Bruschetta: A little underwhelming, but not bad. * French Country Burger: The burger was good, and the fig jam and brie worked really well together. Service: Our server was attentive but did seem a little overwhelmed at times. Ambience: It felt a bit warm inside, and I wish there was a little more space between the tables.

My friends and I wanted German food; we'd been to the oak glen location and loved it. The calimesa location didn't have the selection of German beers and the menu was different, we decided we preferred Oakglen! The calimesa location has great hours, their competitors are closed on sunday and Monday. It's a nice quiet restaurant, and the service was top notch. We ordered the apple streusel, it was decadant and a huge portion for sharing!

What a great experience! We drove 50 miles to try out this spot after someone shared a review with me. it was well worth the drive. We were seated quickly by the friendly Staff. Our amazing server Samantha had our beverages out quickly. Her suggestions from the menu were spot on! By the way, the menu was perfect! Just the right amount of variety without being overwhelming. My wife slumped down and melted from how good the chicken marsala was. She said she would come back again just for her dish. Every part was perfect. I have had steak sandwiches all over Southern California and this was right there at the top of my list. It was so good and at almost a foot long it was great value. Now those chips were amazing as well. Great job guys. It's a nice spot that is laid out well. Table size is great and lighting is perfect. Parking is a bit of an issue on a Friday evening so be patient. But, Samantha was the star of the evening. From her suggestions to service she was fantastic! Thank you!

The Monte Christo sandwich. Looked magnificent but sadly was too greasy.

Haus Bistro is a very quaint, one of a kind restaurant in the small town of Calimesa. Calimesa, a quiet afterthought hidden at the base of the San Gorgonio foothills is midway between Oak Glen (apple country) and the Palm Springs (desert). Haus Bistro offers a very interesting, unique international menu for a surprising dining experience. Their German cuisine entrees were what motivated me to give them a chance. I had the jaeger schnitzel, a thinly pounded pork tenderloin with a rich, brown mushroom gravy. I was extremely pleased for it's rich authentic flavor and generous size. The red cabbage that came as a side was also delicious albeit sweeter than I expected. I would have loved having some German potato salad instead of spaetzle or potatoes, but I don't recall if they even offered it. Fortunately for me, not too far away is George's Market, a small German mom and pop market/deli, where I can always fulfill that craving. So, the other dish ordered was a classic Monte Cristo sandwich. It looked spectacular, but ended up being a major disappointment for being extremely greasy. Mr. B ended up eating mostly filling and very little of the French toast bread. He would not recommend this. One of the fun items we tried were their house made kettle chips. The plain version of their chips came with the sandwich. Yummy! But there is also an appetizer, called Barrel Room Chips, a taste sensation that takes a crispy kettle chip and pairs it with parmesan cheese and rosemary. The chips come out hot, fresh out of the fryer and are a real treat. The next day they were still sensational. Since we don't live in the area, I can only give our first impressions, but I would be happy to return to try some of the other compelling items on their menu.

Loved this place, food was awesome, music was on point, and service was top notch. I cannot wait to come back, the schnitzel is out of this world Side note- they had my favorite beer on tap (black plague) and it was a nice surprise

Good salads, sandwiches and flatbread. Menu does change seasonally. Only serve wine and beer. Cute little spot

You ever eat a meal that was good, but nothing like it was supposed to be? Welcome to The Haus Bistro! I ordered the Blackened Shrimp and Pesto Chicken Pasta. The shrimp was good, but I'd hardly call it blackened. The chicken and sauce were good, but I'd hardly call it pesto. The side salad came with a nice vinaigrette. My wife got the salmon salad, but wouldn't order it again: Kinda tough and flavorless. (I had some and would agree.)

    Steak Sandwich with Haus-made chips.

The current Yelp 4.4 Star review is too low! The lunch food and service today were top notch. We arrived a bit before opening, but Georgie, our waitress, let us come in and pick a table. I had the peanut butter cream draft beer, and Georgie offered me a taste just to be sure! I've never had that option so I took it and the beer was a surprise and quite satisfying. For lunch, it was the Bistro Steak sandwich, which featured tri-tip and gorgonzola cheese, accompanied by Haus-made chips. The sandwich was different and perhaps the best tri-tip sandwich I have ever had, and I have had many. The gorgonzola and tri-tip pared really well, and the chips were spot on. Given the incredible service and food, I have The Haus Bistro bookmarked for a return for dinner real soon!

Pretzel Sticks (soft on inside/ slight crisp on outside)

Wow. I LOVED this place. My sister took me for the first time and it is just the cutest inside with twinkly lights. The food was absolutely spectacular. Among two of us, we split one sandwich and one appetizer and it was the perfect amount for lunch. The pastrami was full of flavor and delicious. The pretzels were absolutely marvelous, soft on the inside and a very slight crisp on the outside. My mouth will definitely be watering til I can come back again. My sister said the brioche buns are also amazing, so I will have to come back soon to try them!

    The decor was pleasant

It was recommended to me and to be honest where it was located is not a place I would have gone. But to my surprise it was exquisite. The food was well prepared and extremely delicious. Their price points were so reasonable too. I was strongly impressed and will be returning

What we also found out, it was happy hour going on. Didn't even know this place offered happy hour as we've only been for breakfast and brunch. When we arrived it was slow. The whole patio area that's part of the restaurant and the side where the sidewalk was were both emptied. That in between time where brunch was finished and they were setting up dinner. Even with the mister and some of the shade, it was still pretty hot out so we opted for the patio section by the restaurant. We've never seen this menu so it was new to us. Honestly wanted their brunch menu but it was too late. The waitress working was basically doing everything as she was the only one on deck. Hostess, waitress and bartender. It did start to pick up while we were there. Drink wise, one of their Bloody Mary which comes with a slice of bacon and their lemon drop. Both very tasty. Food, an order of the ahi tuna salad. Seared tuna on top of mixed greens with crunchy onion, tomatoes, avocados and a really delicious ginger dressing. Quite tasty. The beet salad with added chicken. Beets tossed in a mixed greens with feta and roasted chicken. That too was quite nice. Lastly the veggies burger. Simple burger Pattie with all the trimming and served with seasoned fries. Of course the truffle fries were needed which was part of the happy hour. I can truly say that this place has amazing seasoned fries that's always a must for us. I didn't expect to see a different menu as were used to brunch but it was nice. Service was good for us as it wasn't too busy when we arrived with only one waitress working. It's a place that brunch is amazing hence we're alway back for that. I can say I've tried their other menu now.

When booking, I had the option of dining , chef's table, or patio seating. I specifically chose the dining since my daughter loves creating content, and the indoor ambiance is absolutely beautiful for photos. The hostess seated us on the patio, and I mentioned that I had selected dining. I was told that seating is based on first availability, which was a little disappointing, especially since the restaurant is right on the water and by 7:30 PM it was getting pretty chilly. While they do have heaters outside, sitting in gusty winds with the smell of gas (especially after a fresh trip to the hairdresser!) just wasn't ideal. My daughter went back to the car to grab a blanket. Thankfully, the hostess noticed my discomfort and came back shortly after saying, "Donna, we have another table further down that's out of the wind and under a heat lamp." That small gesture made a big difference, and honestly, that's when the experience started to turn around. From there, things only got better. When our entrées arrived, our waiter Nick realized we had never received our appetizers. Without hesitation, he assured us he would make it right, and he absolutely did. He brought out a selection of cheeses for us to sample, which led to us ordering a caviar bump paired with champagne (highly recommend!). To top it all off, he surprised my daughter with olive cake and fresh berries to celebrate her birthday. Such a thoughtful touch. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Not just because the food was amazing, but because of the attention to detail and how seriously they take the overall dining experience. Parking is available in a nearby garage, and they validate the first 90 minutes, which is a nice bonus.

I had this place bookmarked on Yelp since November when it was all dressed up for the holidays. The…read morepictures of the interior looked beautiful and the food looked great. Yesterday, I came here for my birthday lunch with my mom after she made a reservation, and honestly, I wish we had just gone somewhere else. We sat down right at our 1:00 reservation and then waited 35 minutes just to get a drink menu. Not food. Not to order. Just the menu for drinks. After we finally ordered, the champagne showed up about 20 minutes later. It was served in wine glasses, which feels like basic wine bar knowledge, but apparently not here. When we asked to switch them to champagne glasses, the waiter brought out smaller wine glasses. Not exactly good etiquette for a place that leans so heavily on its bar concept. The whipped ricotta appetizer came out even later, around the 65 minute mark. As an appetizer. It was fine, probably the best thing we had, but "fine" after that kind of wait is not a positive. From there, everything just dragged. It took almost an hour for my mom's meatballs to come out, and when they did, they were raw. Not slightly underdone. Fully pink in the middle. She sent them back and was so turned off she didn't even want to eat anything else. I ordered a salad and specifically asked for light dressing. What I got was the opposite. It was drenched in a thick, heavy dressing that made the whole thing borderline inedible and the lettuce soggy. After our food, I tried to order drip coffee, which they didn't have, so I settled for an Americano. I asked for warm cream, which I've had done at plenty of places, and somehow it came out clotted. If you know anything about coffee, that shouldn't happen. At this point, we had been there for over two and a half hours. For a salad, an appetizer, and four raw meatballs. The server was very nice and doing his best with being busy. BUT, the overall operation felt completely disorganized and untrained. We weren't the only ones either. The couple next to us was also complaining after waiting 40 minutes just to order breakfast items. To make it even better, parking is only comped for 90 minutes. So because of their slow service, we ended up paying for parking on top of overpriced, underwhelming food. What should have been a 45 minute lunch turned into a 2.5 hour ordeal. The bathroom also wasn't clean either time I went, which pretty much sums up the lack of attention to detail across the board. The only slightly redeeming part was the crème brûlée, which was... fine. Not amazing. Just fine. It's a pretty space. I'll give them that. But that's about where the positives end. The food is not good, the timing is unacceptable, and the whole experience feels like Instagram style over quality and substance. Definitely not worth the money, and not somewhere I'd ever go back to.

We've been coming to Idyllwild for 60+ years (100 as a family) and we've seen restaurants great and small come and go. Tommy's right now is one of the top three, ironically as it is takeout dinners with the occasional holiday brunch. This Sunday on Memorial Day weekend we ordered the Roast Lamb special ($24), a robust herbed port wine jus three slices, which came with a dense square of scalloped potatoes au gratin, buttered peas and glazed carrots--with excellent broccoli cheddar soup with croutons--and a white dark chocolate mousse that was the perfect light dessert (I couldn't believe I ate it all). We're having leftovers for lunch or dinner today. What Tommy's gives is way over price value but it's his European culinary technique that elevates the food, even when doing crispy fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. The menu is set, one dish a day, though some occasionally come with vegetarian options. As a bonus, son James bakes excellent French bread--we bought a sun-dried tomato one which was terrific dipped in olive oil. Best of all, for us, Tommy's allows us to not fill the best hours of the evening with cooking and prep. We can sit out on our deck and enjoy the mountains. We had originally booked patio seating, but from the moment we walked in, the experience felt thoughtful and genuinely hospitable. We were warmly greeted by the owner, who immediately noticed we had a baby and proactively offered to relocate us to a more protected outdoor area while still preserving the al fresco experience. He set us up in the covered outdoor section to the right of the restaurant--best described as a beautifully styled canopy space rather than a typical patio. It was lush, cozy, and lavishly decorated with greenery, honestly a vibe all on its own. He even turned on the heaters to make sure our baby stayed warm. That level of care alone already set the tone for the night. Now let's talk about the food--because wow. This is classic French comfort done right. We started with the chicken liver pâté, which was easily one of the best I've had to date. Silky, rich, and deeply flavorful. This dish was especially nostalgic for me--my mom is a huge fan of pâté, and growing up we'd often eat it with bread as a snack or light meal. One bite instantly transported me back. Comfort food in the truest sense. For entrées, my wife ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon--tender, slow-braised beef that practically melted, swimming in a deeply savory, wine-forward sauce that felt both rustic and refined. I went with the Steak au Poivre, perfectly cooked and coated in a bold, peppery cream sauce that struck that ideal balance between richness and bite. Both dishes were executed beautifully--classic French flavors, no shortcuts, no gimmicks. Drinks were just as satisfying. I ordered a dirty Grey Goose martini with blue cheese olives, and let me tell you--it's surprisingly hard to find places that actually carry blue cheese olives. This one detail alone earned extra points in my book. The ambiance really tied everything together. French music played throughout both the indoor and outdoor spaces--some tracks were even recognizable, adding to the authenticity without feeling cliché. It felt transportive, warm, and relaxed. And bonus points for location: the restaurant sits right next to Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, making it dangerously easy (and highly recommended) to follow up dinner with dessert. All in all, French Rotisserie Cafe delivered on hospitality, atmosphere, and genuinely excellent French cuisine. Whether you're visiting Palm Desert for the first time or you're a local, this spot is absolutely worth a reservation.
