I recently had dinner at Citrone Italian Chophouse for the first time and it was an absolutely perfect experience from start to finish. Every course was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The garlic bread, salad, and Grandma's meatballs were a great start. For the entrée, I chose the flat iron steak. It was honestly 10/10 perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and paired wonderfully with the roasted potatoes, asparagus, and chimichurri. Easily one of the best steaks I've had at a restaurant. To finish, dessert was a warm apple tart with ice cream on top, and it was absolutely divine. The combination of the warm pastry and cold ice cream was the perfect ending to the meal. We got a few drinks, and they were delicious. We got the house made focaccia, a Caesar salad, the prime New York strip, tonnarelli cacio e pepe, corn agnolotti, seasonal mushrooms, and brussel sprouts. For dessert we got a caffe affogato, crème brûlée, and the tiramisu. The stand outs were the prime New York strip, it was cooked to perfection and pre-sliced which made it easier to share family style with my friends. The corn agnolotti was something we weren't familiar with but the best. It also came highly recommended from our server. It was a corn ravioli in a truffle sauce, the flavors mended so well together and was so rich and flavorful. We couldn't stop raving about it. The mushrooms were also a favorite. Tonight was our first time at Citrone. The front parking spot was open, and the moment we walked in they had a canceled reservation. Citrone didn't arrange for those to happen, but it was a GREAT start! Our waitress was Kaylie. She was excellent: very professional, but also willing to adjust to the silly questions we asked her along the way. She made the experience a true A+, so we hope we'll have the opportunity to be sat at her table again soon. The ambiance is great. A solid place for a professional lunch or a nice dressy date, it's a unique and beautiful spot. This is the type of place where some eat their pizza with a fork and knife, but others eat it the way God intended and the staff won't judge you either way. That's a solid middle ground for me. The food: - The Margherita Pizza was excellent. It's not meant to wow you, just be exactly what it needs to be. We loved it! - The Corn Agnolotti was delicious. My vegetarian wife was a huge fan, and I tried one and agreed. - The Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese was very good. I can't call it excellent, because my wife's Bolognese will always win here... but the hand-made pasta was a nice touch! I would definitely order it again. - The Crème Brulee was perfect. No notes. My friends and I have visited Citrone twice. Both times we were in town for a Children's Lit Festival at the University. The food is delicious the ambiance on point and this last visit we had an amazing server named Kim. She was personable, attentive, professional and made us feel welcome and cared for. The restaurant is lucky to have her on their staff. A window into the kitchen allows guests to observe pizza making while enjoying their experience at the restaurant. Espresso martini was fantastic. Garlic bread is well portioned, crispy, and flavorful. Ceasar is decent! Subtle flavored with anchovies as a garnish. Pasta is served al dente and they are true to their word. I may prefer a slightly longer cook time to soften them just a touch more but I do appreciate the non soggy pasta. Margarita was also decent! Citrone Italian Chophouse is a beautiful restaurant that occupies the former Olive & Citrus building in Downtown Redlands. From its former location on Orange St, Citrone made a great move to this space so I was excited to make reservations and give Citrone a try. My party and I arrived half an hour early for reservations. While my reservation was for the outdoor patio, I did let the host know we're flexible with sitting inside - whichever section was ready first. However, we still waited 45 minutes to be seated. When the hostess approached our party, she said she would seat us in the private dining room. We were shown to an area between the kitchen and the restrooms where other Asians were seated. How odd. There was a booth in front of the bar that was empty for at least 10 minutes but wasn't given to us. It was given to a Caucasian couple who arrived after we did but seated before we were. As we got seated, we noticed another Asian family that was seated in the "private dining area" - they were also waiting to be seated (same reservation time as ours) earlier that evening. Weird to see that there was separation of groups... Our server, Mary, was a sweet young lady. She was kind when taking our order but had to flag her down a couple times to refill my water - that should clue you in to how long we had to wait. The service was super SLOW! We were at the restaurant for almost 3 hours. The pace of the food coming out was off and took longer than most restaurants. I don't know if they had purposefully made the private dining guests wait longer than other patrons... sus. As far as the food, we ordered the following: * Bacon Brussel Sprouts - This was good and we shared this side as an appetizer. It would be best if it were roasted but I'm glad we had this to hold us over since the rest of the food came at a snail's pace. * Corn Agnolotti - The flavor had a natural sweetness from the corn and the pasta was cooked al dente. Flavor-wise, it was lacking something else on top of the truffle butter sauce. I think the sweetness from the corn made it harder to finish the dish. The presentation could be better, too. * Tartufata - This had the perfect pizza crust. Light and slightly floppy. The wild mushrooms with truffle oil, pecorino, and mozzarella cheese were a good combination. * Tagliatelle alla Bolognese - This was disappointing. While the tagliatelle was homemade, it was also overcooked, which made the pasta less appetizing. It is supposed to have wagyu beef, veal and pork in its sauce but seemed nonexistent. The whole dish just did not taste good. I don't mind paying for quality food but - let's just say, Citrone wasn't worth it. We left underwhelmed. The food wasn't special, the service was slow, the price doesn't justify the food, and the experience was less than desirable. At least I know why I was never drawn to Citrone and why I cannot recommend them. It's such a shame. read more

As someone who enjoyed the old Olive & Citrus restaurant in this spot, Citrone truly delivers. From the easy online reservation to arriving at the restaurant, everything was smooth. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. Our server, Matthew, was exceptional--attentive, friendly, and efficient. From the starters to the entrées and dessert, the service was excellent. The wait time for the food was reasonable, with the only longer wait being for the tomahawk steak, which was completely understandable given the preparation. This may be one of the few decent restaurants out in Redlands albeit expensive. From the appetizers: Scallops were a banger, fresh and the puree went amazing with it. Overall, this was a nice subtle and sweet complement to the scallops. Crab cakes were also, surprise surprise, a banger. The sauce complemented the savory and (not too) salty parts of the crab cake. It held together well too and was overall great. Beef carpaccio is always good to have, cause who doesn't love good beef? Sliced thinly and sauced generously, each piece was just savory wonder in your mouth. The entrees we got were specials so who knows if they still exist now. The Special pasta was a calamari spicy special with pasta shaped in rings. It was sorta spicy with a nice kick to it but certainly not unbearable so we enjoyed this. The Special halibut was delicious. It was so tender and had a sweet pea puree that complemented it so well. I was practically licking the plate long after the halibut was gone. For dessert, Tiramisu never fails to disappoint, it had flakes on top which made it a little different but overall, a nice, sweet, way to end the meal. Food: I had a chance to come here and order whatever I wanted for an amazing recruitment dinner. I had high expectations, since this is the most talked about restaurant in the neighborhood. It was good, definitely better than caprice cafe, but not mindblowingly good. The tartar for appetizer was bland, not much flavor, the crispy bread was so thin and crumbly. Burrata in my salad was stringy, cooked peppers tasted odd. Drinks were ok though, strawberry fizz was sweet and not too strong, which I liked. Gnocchi had too much blue cheese, linguine texture was still pretty hard, more so than al dente. Chocolate volcano tasted a bit burnt, but tiramisu was delicious. Price: the company that was doing recruitment paid for my dinner, but I attached the menu with pricing for reference, hope this helps. Definitely in the pricier side Ambiance: dimly lit classic interior design, best for date nights, not really a kid friendly vibe Service: the servers were very nice and kind and patient, since our dinner did not start until later (30 minutes wait time) when everyone had arrived. We were there at 5:30 on 11/29 and I want to make sure he gets a shoutout and I don't have the receipt to double check but he was great, we never felt rushed and our food was perfectly paced. We had the baby beets, crab cakes and bruschetta for apps, everything was very good but the beets were the surprise hit, so fresh and perfectly balanced flavors. I had the lamb chops which was a 10/10, my husband had the flat iron and my parents both got the center cut filet, everyone was very happy with their meals. I always have a great experience at Citrone but my last visit was service to another level. My wife and I got in a little early for our reservation and our table wasn't ready yet. The bar was full and we couldn't really hang out there for a drink. The owner Brandon offered the owner's table by the bar to hang out with drinks until our table was ready. I just feel that even a small gesture like that made our night. Of course the food and cocktails were amazing. The mint Donald and the old Wyoming fashioned were crafted well by Olivia. Making a reservation online was really simple through their website - it is extremely thorough in asking for details and if you are celebrating a special occasion. They're eager to celebrate you which is refreshing when going out to a nice restaurant for a birthday or other celebration. Our friend received a birthday card with signatures from the staff as well as a dessert on the house. Very thoughtful. Our server was so sweet and friendly.
