We tried Granny's for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Get there early as the indoor seating fills up fast. My omelet was OK. The serving of bacon was on the skimpy side and it arrived at the table just luke warm. In contrast, the home fries were hot, flavorful and clearly served just out of the fryer. The biscuit seemed home made and was OK too. My dining companion tried the gravy biscuits and thought they were good, but there wasn't much sausage in it. She got a side order of sausage (one patty) and found it too spicy to eat. Service was efficient and friendly in this very sparsely decorated restaurant. The main draw to Granny's Country Kitchen is the location, not the food. Overall, I thought it was a moderate value given the overall quality of the food and modest portions. We had one of the best breakfasts at Granny's while vacationing in Carolina Beach. It's a small place inside (with six tables) and a small parking lot. Definitely walk, if you can. There was one server working the entire restaurant, and she was hustling. She was very friendly, and service was very fast, too. They know how to run an efficient operation here! I had the two cheese and bacon omelet with grits and a biscuit. My husband had the Egg Breakfast Plate with corned beef hash AND country ham, fried eggs, homefries, and toast. My omelet was really cheesy and very good. The grits were the stoneground kind, and cooked just right. The biscuit was on a smaller side, but nice and fluffy inside. Note that they serve REAL butter at Granny's (unlike Kate's). My husband's eggs were perfectly over-medium. He couldn't stop talking about the country ham - it was thick and very juicy. The corned beef hash was a tad salty, but still very tasty. The homefries weren't crispy, but they were seasoned well. The coffee was very strong and delicious. The food was stellar! We didn't get pictures cause we were all so ready to dig in The best chicken livers and mashed potatoes of any restaurant they were like my grandma makes! (That's a huge compliment) Breakfast is all day my brother got the western omelet and it smelled delicious he said it was really good I got the hotdog basket and the fries and the hotdog were both great. Tried this place many years ago on our first visit to the island and were very happy especially with the fried green tomatoes and sauce. This made us try again more recently but were mildly disappointed. The fried green tomatoes did not live up to their original review and the food was standard diner breakfast food, nothing special. The place is very small and it seems if you are a local, you get a bit more warmth from the servers. We've explored other options on the island and have found some to be better. I had the Southwestern Omelette, Stoneground Gris, and a biscuit. The omelette was slightly overcooked in my opinion but still very good. I loved the grits and the biscuit was good too. Best breakfast spot on the beach!! Super flavorful and great service. It is super busy in the morning, with longer waits but it's slower around noon so just recommend going then. The workers there are super friendly and very welcoming. The inside doesn't have much seating so not ideal for groups over 5 but they do have outdoor seating. We didn't wait long to get our food. The fried green tomatoes is a must try! And the omelette and the French toast club were delicious. Great place for breakfast or lunch when you are in the area. read more

This is a quaint little restaurant but the food is not near as good as I had hoped. Service is really good. The first day I got biscuits and Sausage gravy w/ 2 over easy eggs. They forgot the sausage in the gravy. I think I found 4-5 pieces of sausage in a large order (very disappointing). The next day I thought I would try the Blueberry pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were decent size but nothing special and not many blueberries. The bacon was nothing special either. I thought a place called Granny's Country Kitchen would have to have great food, but not in this case. I left full each day and enjoyed my morning coffee, but it was average at best. read more

Really loved the food but not the personalities! The hostess was very rude because we had a big party.. no A/C in the building and we had a pregnant. As we were ordering the lady taking our order was complaining saying "Jesus Christ the whole time" and complaining because we were going to put them behind in the kitchen. read more

One suggestion maybe try a different sausage with a little more taste to it. This one is to mild for my liking. Nothing that would stop me from returning though just a mild suggestion. Be warned the menu online shows significantly cheaper prices than the menu in the restaurant. For example online 3 pancakes is $6.80 and in the restaurant is they are $9. We expected to pay $13 based on the menu online and our bill was $20. the building is very dirty and very hot. It might be more enjoyable to sit outside with a breeze.The food was okay. The receptionist at the hotel recommended me to this place after I told her about my experience there. We went to Granny's and it was a whole lot better. The restaurant is quaint and nothing fancy but the food is good. My only critique is no American cheese in your omlette. It was good but some cheddar cheese, a sprinkle of Gouda, or something like that would take it up a notch. This was the best breakfast we had during our trip!! This was our first visit. We visited on a weekday for breakfast during January, the off-season for Kure Beach, when many places are closed. This is a little place. Inside, there were approximately 6-7 tables each set for 4 diners. It was very cold outside. We sat inside, and a table was clearing, so there was no wait. There were several large picnic tables with large umbrellas on the outside. There are a few parking places in front. Additional parking was available on the side street. We were greeted, seated, and served by a VERY pleasant, friendly, and efficient lady. The coffee was fresh, hot, and strong. The menu was diverse and covered breakfast and lunch. They have a children's menu. They were open from 8 am to 2 pm. They had posted daily specials and a LARGE variety of homemade sides and a homemade dessert. We got their fried green tomatoes, a chocolate chip Mickey Mouse Pancake for our preschool grandson, breakfast platter with real home fries, regular pancake platter, and biscuits and gravy. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and served up piping hot The entrance and restrooms are handicapped accessible. There were no alcoholic beverages listed on their menu. We look forward to visiting again and trying more of those delicious homemade sides! read more

I came up to this place after the only other place in town that I knew served breakfast had a line out the door. This was about 1030 on a Saturday morning so maybe on this end of town, everyone had already eaten. I was seated immediately, placed my order within minutes and probably about 10 minutes later had my meal. Yes, the place is small with not much decor. But honestly, so are most of the other eateries in the area. You come, you eat, you get back out on the beach....right? I tried the two items on the menu that I had never had before in my life. Shrimp and Grits with over-easy eggs/toast on the side and the Fried Green Tomatoes. The grit cake was not exactly to my liking, nor was the homemade salsa on top but what do I know....I'm from Maryland. I saw another customer gobbling it up. Loved the eggs! And the Fried Green Tomatoes!!! YES!! I had two slices and took the rest back for a late night snack. The sauce they provide with this is awesome. Not sure either what the other reviewers meant about the temperature in there. There were two quite large A/C units in the walls and I could see that both were set at 70 degrees. I walked to Granny's one morning for breakfast, during my stay at Carolina Beach. It's a quaint little establishment. There was a wait when I got there (and this was before the summer season started). It wasn't crazy long, thankfully. I was able to look through and read the letter cal newspaper during my wait. They seated me as soon as they had a table ready. I was waited on and the food arrived quickly. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. My only "complaint" is that the bacon was over cooked (but this seems to happen at most places - I don't like it super crunchy/crumbly). Everything else was good, though. My gradmother had been wanting to try this place, and we walked in one morning before driving to Myrtle Beach, but the place was packed and no tables were opening up (I think this was a Saturday morning). We waited about 20 minutes before just deciding to try somewhere else and we'd try again another day. We tried again the next Monday, my last morning in Carolina Beach before flying back home to Ithaca, NY later that afternoon. The place was emptier, which was great, and we got to seat ourselves immediately. We got coffee quickly (which is always nice) and got to order our breakfasts. The waitress was a total sweetheart and let my grandmother change up her breakfast order a bit from what's on the menu, getting freshly sliced tomatoes on the side - as opposed to toast or anything else. Me, on the other hand? I don't eat much when I travel, so I wanted a filling breakfast. I ordered a Greek omelet and some biscuits with sausage gravy. The food was made pretty quickly, and was really enjoyable. My grandmother said both her egg and bacon were perfectly cooked, and the tomato was super fresh. My omelet was super yummy as well, and the biscuits with sausage gravy? They totally hit the spot. All in all, a delicious meal. I just wish this place was bigger or had a better seating area. I think my grandma and I would regularly visit this spot if it wasn't always so full of people..! But I guess there's a reason for that, eh?
