It was okay! The staff and ambiance were amazing and I would return just for that. Their courtyard has a ton of seating and is a nice mix of being outdoors, but still feeling like you are in a private area. Great location as well - right next to Mickey's, decent amount of street parking, and walking distance to the beach. Welcome to the neighborhood, Yellow Jersey Patisserie! What a charming little spot. The courtyard is SO cute and welcoming, as is the tiny shop with its new black and white checkered floor. While out on my Sunday walk, I routed my wife and me to stop by out of curiosity after seeing they had opened in the old Hermosa Pie Co. location. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly. The owners were so friendly and shared a bit about the space and what they have planned. I can already see it becoming a bustling little neighborhood hub, and I hope they are wildly successful. And the food. Everything looked amazing. I couldn't resist picking up a couple of scones, blueberry lemon and pumpkin chocolate. They packed them up in a little box with handled paper bags for the journey home. As I prepared brunch, I unpacked the goods and couldn't help but notice how lovely everything looked, wrapped with branded packaging. But the best was yet to come. The crescendo. Some of the most delicious scones I've ever tasted. Moist, sweet but not too sweet, and just right. The good: I got a latte, pumpkin scone, chocolate chip cookie and a coffee/cinnamon muffin. The pastries are made in the morning by the owner and have a homemade taste. I liked that they weren't overly sweet. The interior and exterior are both so charming and quaint. The interior had vibey music and the exterior had a zen garden-feel with plants, rocks, and Buddha statues. The outside was peaceful and shaded. There was plenty of street parking outside but you'll probably have to pay the meter. The chocolate chip cookie had a nice chewy texture. The scone was soft and had chocolate chips. The muffin had a great cinnamon flavor and swirly appearance. I like that their baked goods rotate and change through the seasons. I will definitely come back for more. Bonus: they're right by the beach! The bad: The latte seemed more like a cappuccino. It was a smaller volume with a lot of foam. The interesting: They have whole milk only (no milk alternatives). The owner/worker mentioned that they wanted a European atmosphere, perhaps that's an aspect of it? I was okay with this because I always want whole milk anyway. There is definitely a bike-theme or interest going on with the Yellow Jersey reference, business cards inside advertising a Halloween bike ride meetup (?) and the cashier having a bike tattoo (I think?). read more

I went here for a book event. It's a small cafe in Hermosa. I parked in the metered zone. I probably wouldn't have known about this place if it wasn't for the audio book event that I participate in. I ordered a pumpkin scone and a latte. Together it amounted to $9. It's not a bad deal. The serving area is small but the dining area is outdoors and it's really cute! What a cute little shop! Came here with an audiobook walking club (shout out Stephanie and her romance book truck, The Fleuria!) and it was the perfect vibe. The courtyard is perfect! The shop feels so open and quaint and even has a little seating bar so you can watch the sun rise in the East or the beachgoers walking by. The owner, Mike, is friendly and enthusiastic about this venture and his baked wares which include delicious croissants, tarts, sourdough loaves and cinnamon rolls. He plans on adding more seating in the charming back garden area which will be a great place to sip some of his fresh-squeezed lemonade and enjoy a snack mere steps from the beach. Been wanting to try this place for a long time but they have limited hours. I got pan chocolate, mini croissant, chocolate cookie to go. Croissant was fresh out of the oven, so I bought 2. I was anxious for this place to open, and I finally stopped in when I saw the door open and got my usual latte. It was the smallest latte ever, and it was the only size they offer. The patio is very cute and it's nice to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The owners are very friendly and warm so I wish they had bigger coffee for my six dollars and a little bit more attractive case of pastries. They all looked a little sad... it won't be my go to coffee spot, but I'll definitely stop in again! read more

Ate here maybe a month ago - the world's smallest croissants.... they look to be the size before you bake the croissant! taste was ok, but hard to compare to a normal size croissant due to the crust/interior volume ratio. Also had the apricot tart thing, which was nice - just your basic Danish pastry. I wish them well and hope they succeed so hopefully this is just growing pains. read more

I was at Mickeys and saw this pastry shop had opened so I went the next day to try it out and to try to support this new establishment. I ordered two chocolate croissants, 2 plain croissants and an apple tart. The croissants were smaller than I typically like to take down but I was pleasantly surprised with how great they were. Perfectly flakey and buttery. The tart was a generous portion and was really really nice. I took it all to go but the outdoor patio space atmosphere looked real pleasant. The roll itself was moist with just the right amount of cinnamon filling and the icing was amazing. Once I finished the cinnamon roll, I was super bummed that I only got one.
