Once again, my partner and I were on the fence about what we wanted to eat. I wanted soul food again, but wanted to try a different restaurant. I'd seen reviews about Grannys so I thought we'd give it a try. I ordered fried chicken, candied yams, cabbage, and cheesecake. My partner ordered the trout (it looked fancy), macaroni & cheese and collard greens. The fried chicken, IMO, wasn't cooked hard enough. I ate two and let my partner have the other two. The candied yams and cabbage were good. Those are my go-to's! My partner didn't say much about her meal, but from the looks of things, she enjoyed it. But that Oreo cheesecake...... BABY! It was so good! I was only going to take a few bites and ended up eating the whole thing! ...and I paid for it later, but it was worth it. A friend of mine recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. It's take out only so your best bet is to call ahead and pick up. ** 7 Year Update ** Welp, unsure if it shows on yall side, but I have 59 check-ins documented. I surely visited this location way more times. I have at least 15 check-ins documented from the Mondawmin located before they closed. When I tell you, my oldest and I traditionally LOVE this business, we LOVE this business. In the past 10 years (& I am surely a Day 1 customer from 1st location on Owings Mills Blvd), they've only messed up on our order 4 times. Sadly, 3 of them were this year alone. 2 visits ago, I had to arm wrestle gravy for my son's mashed potatoes all b/c the kitchen person read it a certain way. Surely not my problem. Sadly, no apology or acknowledgment. My last visit a few weeks ago, I noticed a veggie missing, and when I mentioned to cashier, she responded w "oh this is what we ran out of". Ummm, no call or notice so I could pick another side? Thank God l always check my bag prior to leaving. I was granted another side item. Granny's is a solid spot for Southern comfort food, and my recent visit while in town for work was mostly great. The fish was cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Definitely the highlight of the meal. A couple small things kept it from being a full 5 stars: the mashed potatoes came out without gravy, and the cornbread was a bit on the dry side. I've tried Granny's twice in the past once for my mother's birthday and another time with some coworkers for brunch and the food and vibe was to die for. The original location was beautiful it had a piano when you walked in and the lights weren't bright it was evening dim. Oh Granny's. What has happened. I e been a customer since they opened waaaay back when. Presentation is good and sides portions seem to have increased though the cornbread has gotten so tiny that it's not even worth a mention. Food is not quite the same. It's kinda there but kinda not. Candied yams were definitely candied but taste was sweet and no other flavor. Had to add my own cinnamon and vanilla at home. Mac n cheese is a thick layer of cheese over macaroni. No flavor again. Catfish was good fried but tasted strongly of oil. Not much else. For the money charged needs to be better than this. read more

Hey friends, let me put you on to something! I tried the blackened catfish sandwich today and WOW--absolutely delicious. The seasoning had that perfect Cajun kick, bold without being overpowering. Some dishes are still good but food hasn't been the same as before the pandemic. Also, the dine-in option was never restarted so carry-out only. Some workers can be very rude. Everyone loves comfort food and that's exactly what Granny's is serving. I stopped by on a Sunday after church. To my surprise it's a takeout only place. Looks like you used to be able to dine in at one point but not anymore. After reviewing the menu and asking the cashier some questions I ordered the peach bourbon wings. It comes with two sides and I chose mac and cheese and yams. I also ordered an additional side of broccoli with cheese, brown sugar lemonade and the all butter pound cake for dessert. The wait was about 20 mins and the food came out piping hot. As soon as I opened the platter the aromas had me drooling over my food. Everything was delicious and made to perfection. The food was definitely giving Granny made this. The portion was so large it took me three days to finish my food. Not complaining at all cause each day it tasted better than the last. Only complaint is that the cheese sauce on the broccoli was a bit on the runny side but it was still tasty. I can't say enough good things about my meal it was definitely hit. Found out about Granny's through a video that Slice & Rice filmed, reviewing multiple items on the menu. And then drove down from Philly because my husband was convinced! The power of influencers :) A big FYI: NO DINE-IN! They don't have a timeline on when the dining area will reopen either. I asked, as of March 2024. Wings: Ordered the peach bourbon wingettes and lemon pepper wingettes. The sauce on the peach bourbon wingettes is very good! Worth a try! The wings are larger than what you'd get at Buffalo Wild Wings or a restaurant like that. The one thing about no dine-in for these wings is that they aren't 100% crispy by the time you eat them, sadly. They were still fairly crispy after a 30 minute car ride though! Sides: ordered collard greens and creamy grits. You gotta eat the grits fairly quickly or they'll get a weird texture. I thought they were fine without adding any butter but accordingly to my husband, my taste buds are bland. Farm raised catfish: if you minus the two sides' costs that are included in the total price, the price is comparable. It was well fried and fairly sized for what it was worth. Bigger than what you'd get at a Cracker Barrel! Customer service: great! Very friendly! I appreciated how they put foil down in the plastic take-out containers. read more

Well, the service has been top notch every time. You're either "mister," "ma'am," or "family" which is nice. As of this writing, they still don't offer dine in so it's carryout only. If you're especially hungry when you're ordering, pace yourself because the portions are HUGE. You could literally fill up on the side dishes. Yup...5 years later and Granny's is still 5 stars in my book. I've been coming to Granny's since they were at their first location near Stevenson University. The owner used to come by all of the tables to see how the food was. I followed them to all of their locations lol. Let me tell you the customer service is always 5 stars, over the phone and in person. The food was 5 stars back then and it's still the same. They have consistently provided stellar customer service and excellent food. My go to is the salmon cake dinner with mac and cheese, greens, and yams. The dill sauce that comes with the salmon cake dinner is chef's kiss. I picked up some sides for the upcoming holiday and while it was crazy there the staff were helpful and GENUINELY friendly. I'm not getting compensated by Granny's and I am not a friend or family member of the restaurant. I just love me some Granny's food. read more

Due to Covid there's no indoor dining still but you're able to eat at the front of the store. There's a decent size area. Drinks- sweeeeet!! I had to keep pouring water in my brown sugar lemonade. I just asked for the money back because the attitude was loud! Give my mom back her money and please know I'll take her to the other soul food RESTAURANTS, not a ran down carry out. The greens were flavored to perfection with a little kick and the smothered porch chops were delightful. I tried the peach cobbler for dessert, it had a strawberry sauce poured on top for a contrasting flavor! Not pictured is the tea, don't miss out on the tea! My family and i were in the area and craving some soul food. Because I was unfamiliar with the area, I did a Yelp search and came across this restaurant and its great reviews. Upon walking in, we noticed that the dining room was closed off but around the corner was the staff that just made me feel so welcomed. In a cheery voice, we were welcomed into the establishment, given a run down of specials and received a menu. Off of the initial welcome, I was sold. I said to the lady, oh you mush know we are first timers. She said, "I didnt. This is how we treat all of our guests... the way Granny would want and expect". I was impressed. My mother and I looked over the menu for some time. I was kind of surprised by the prices. And it all honesty...it is not cheap but you get what you pay for. I ended up ordering The Cheeseburger Meatloaf which consisted of two loaves of cheesy meatloaf topped with creamy cheese sauce or brown gravy, apple wood smoked bacon, and mozzarella and cheddar cheese. For my sides, I ordered the cabbage and mac and cheese. My mom ordered fish and 2 sides. I cannot speak for her food because I didn't get to try, but the fish pieces were huge. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I made it last for 2 days as the portions are decent. Overall a great experience. Its kind of far from my home, but if I am ever in the area again, I would def try something else! read more

I was immediately drawn to the very sweet and pleasant voice over the phone. Customer service is exceptional. The food was great. One complaint is the batter was a bit salty for the catfish. Granny's have the best collards I've tried so far! Waffles were tasty and reminded me of cake. Yum! Cocktails to die for! I brought all except the gentleman. My favorite was the sangria!! I can only imagine how wonderful the Sunday's brunches were pre covid that is. The cornbread was good. I just wasn't a fan of the corn in it, just not my thing. Homestyle country meals with all the fixins. So, normally when Maryland beckons me to come down and visit its sacred lands, it's usually to visit some hallowed Civil/Revolutionary War battleground. That, and eat lots and lots of succulent crab meat. Well, during my most recent visit, I did neither. Instead, I stumbled into a realm that many don't even realize exist - the hillbillies of the north. Now I don't think anyone in their right mind would consider Maryland to be a southern state. That'd be a pretty big stretch. But Granny's definitely has this southern hospitality/Confederate statue/stand-your-ground law feel to it. Like, after eating here, it kinda made me want to Google the closet Robert E. Lee memorial, go there, look him in the eye, and be like, "Ok man, yeah, I get it now." I actually have no idea what the hell I'm talking about. All I know is Granny's serves up all the southern classics, like fried green tomatoes, deep fried okra, fried catfish, fried pork chops, and perhaps the most southern dish of them all - the side Caesar salad. Well, I guess you have to cater to the general masses to some extent. But for real, who's coming in like, "OK, I'll have the chicken livers, shrimp & grits, and you know what would be the perfect pairing? A Caesar salad." Actually, shit, my Mom ordered the Caesar salad. It's like one of those things that you can't resist whenever it appears on the menu no matter where you are. Like mozzarella sticks at a diner or spare ribs at a Chinese restaurant. As a fried okra lover, you get an absolute insane amount per order. The fried pork chops came with a generous portion of meaty gravy. The side of mac & cheese was legit the size of an entire meal. I think it may have been two sides worth (since two of us ordered it as our side), but it was still very generous. Definitely more than we could eat in one sitting. I kinda view Granny's as a scaled back Cracker Barrel. Yeah, that's it. It doesn't have the country store. It doesn't have breakfast. It doesn't serve nearly as many sides with each meal. And the menu overall is more limited. Ok, maybe the only thing it has in common with Cracker Barrel is that it has a southern theme. Except I'm 99% sure Cracker Barrel doesn't offer a Caesar salad. So if you are anti-house salad and staunchlyg pro-Caesar salad, Granny's is the place for you. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to get open faced turkey and collard greens. The mimosas are HEAVENLY!! It's amazing comfort food with a souther twist. Everything is delicious!! It used to be my favorite brunch spot for Saturday and Sunday, but sadly they have not opened up their dining room since lock down. Instead of going 1-2 times a month I go once every few months. Eating out and not having to clean up the mess is a huge part. Plus everything is almost cold by the time I get home. I'm patiently waiting for them to open the dinning room back up. I want to send a HUGE thank you to Granny's for the amazing experience I had with their catering for my mother's repast. I called a few days before the service and they were so accommodating and caring. They first extended their condolences which warmed my heart in a difficult time. Toya helped me and was very patient and helped me choose my selections and helped me with how much I would need for the number of people we were hosting. The funeral home gave me a small issue that required some changes to time of delivery and the Chef Julie spoke with me personally and offered me a solution. The food was delivered on time, packed well and tasted amazing. Everyone enjoyed the food and most of all they made the process easy and seamless. My review is prior to COVID-19. I've been to Granny's several times so I'm surprised I'm just now getting to the review. Anyway, this place is truly a gem and full of soul. The service is exceptional and they refer to everyone as "family". I've been here for brunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. The portions are huge. I believe every visit, I've brought home leftovers. My favorites have been their peach bourbon chicken wings and the blackened salmon over cheese grits. The mac n cheese is not to be missed. Also, I love their cornbread muffins that are in the shape of a heart. I can feel the love with every bite. During one visit, I brought my mom and aunt who were visiting from NJ. I drove over from my hotel a few miles away. I arrived at the opening time to find out they would not seat people inside. That was disappointing to find out in person and not on yelp or google. I really wanted a place to sit down and eat before the 5hr drive back to NYC. When I placed my order I asked for advice from a seasoned pro who was ordering in front of me. She and the counter person treated me like family. Unfortunately they do not serve coffee. How things worked out: i ordered my food and walked to the end of the strip mall to get starbucks. By the time I received my overpriced pumpkin spice nonsense and walked back the food was ready. So a 25min wait. I sat outside and ate in the patio area and cleaned up aftermyself.
