We heard a noise change in our jeep grand cherokee and took it to 5 different places with nobody willing to help or able to work on jeeps. We bought it used with high mileage and weren't sure if the car was just dying of old age or had a fixable problem. Anyway the issue was sudden so when we finally discovered Grants, they were immediately responsive and even kept the car an extra day to make sure they knew exactly what was wrong. Turned out the bearings in the front tires were too old and messed up the driving at high speeds. I know nothing about cars but Ali at the shop took such good care of us and I don't leave reviews unless I truly feel helped and cared for. He did an incredible job and was communicative with us through the whole process. Also reasonable with pricing (unlike a few dealerships where we had no such luck). I had a scary experience, my Yukon with a full tank of gas just crapped out all of a sudden while I was in the middle lane first car at the stoplight on Lincoln with a new interstate battery I got 2 months ago so I couldn't figure out what I was wrong. Thank God a nice guy stopped and pushed my truck to the side of the road while I steered then waited for roadside assistance. Finally the flatbed got there after being nearly an hour over ETA and I told him what happened he immediately told me it was the fuel pump. I asked him if he could tow it to my apartment but he said he couldn't and I asked what's the max distance he could tow it and he said 0.6 miles, not far at all. So I checked the map to see how far my usual mechanic Bob little at Ed little auto was and it was 2 miles away. He recommended Grant and said he'd be able to tow it to the lot and leave it there overnight to be fixed the next day. I was worried he might just be a mediocre mechanic and thought maybe he was the drivers cousin or something but then I checked yelp and felt pretty reassured this will be a great place to get my truck fixed. He called me the next day and said It'd be $575 for a new fuel pump replacement total so even though that's more than I'd like to spend, I later found out that's a very fair price considering another mechanic I called out of curiosity guesstimated it'd be $750-$800! Now granted he'd said he would have to see the truck in person to be sure $575 seems like a sweet deal. I'd like to thank the staff and owners at Grant auto for helping me out when I was in a bind. I needed my front brakes fixed, I checked with various auto shops around the area. I was not happy with the quotes I was given and the time it would take them to fix my brakes, then I went to Grants Auto Shop and Ali was able to look at the brakes and quote a very reasonable rate (cheaper than every other shop I checked with) and was able to get the job done within 3 hours and on top of that did a fantastic job. My 19 year old Beetle was spewing coolant and risking overheating. After looking for a shop located close to home so that my car wouldn't overheat on the ride over, and reading all these 5-star reviews, I called Grant Auto and spoke with Ali. He asked if I could come by in the afternoon so that they could take a look at it. He filled the coolant tank and quickly saw that it was leaking from my heater hose. He called to see if he could get the parts and told me the parts would arrive the next morning and the fix would be done by noon. Sure enough, he called close to noon. The price was very fair, the work was done quickly and it was a totally smooth interaction. I'll definitely be back the next time I need an auto mechanic. read more

I was picking up takeout food and car wouldn't start. I guessed battery and call AAA. Tech replaced old battery (bought used 2004 Toyota 6 months ago). That didn't fix. Tech checked starter, said it looked pretty new and thought that might be a fix needed. Tow driver arrived and he thought it might be electrical problem. I called Grant Auto based on the great yelp reviews. They ordered and picked up a new starter before I even was towed there. They checked the car and said it might be electrical as well because it didn't the usual noise when you try to start with a bad starter. Made absolutely no noise. I left to catch a bus, and they called and said come back. They were working on my car and said they think the starter will fix it. And it did!! They worked on it as soon as it got there. I wish I could give Grant Auto more than 5 stars. They not only did an excellent job on my car, but also have amazing customer service. I am very happy I found them! About 2 weeks ago a nail got into my tire and obviously I needed a repair. I was driving on Washington after work and went into Grant Auto because I couldn't find anything else open. Turns out I got really lucky. Ali, who is the owner, was the one who fixed my tire. He was fast, did a great job and was extremely nice. As I was going to pay for the service, I realized I had forgotten my wallet at home and he was super cool and told me to not worry about it. I tried to go back a couple days later to pay him and he wouldn't let me pay. Seriously, such a nice man. Also, I later found out he had been an employee at Grant Auto for 8 years (so he really knows what he's doing) and just recently bought the business because the previously owner retired. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! They will steal your money, waste your time, and treat you like trash while doing it. This guy is a scam artist. My car overheated, so I took it in to this place off the recommendation of a friend. Now I'm even pissed at my friend. Do not take your car here. I'm sure there are honest mechanics out there, but Grant Fought isn't one of them. I was told that some wires had melted, and that's why the car was overheating. They replaced the wire and spark plugs for an unreasonable sum, and when I asked them if they could check the rest of the engine, the hoses, everything, they said to leave the car overnight so they could look at it. I went to pick up the car the next day, and was assured that all the hoses, the connections, everything was up to snuff and I had nothing to worry about. On the less than a mile drive home, the car started overheating. I took it back to the shop. They charged me again to replace some other wires. I took the car home, and didn't drive it for two days. When I did drive it, the first time since getting it back from the shop, one of the radiator hoses exploded. That was a hose that I had asked them to look at, and they assured me it was fine. They again charged me for parts and labor. I again asked them to make sure all the other hoses were ok, so I could fix them prematurely so they wouldn't explode. I took the car home, parked it, and two days later started the car up. Two miles into my drive another radiator hose exploded. I found the hose I needed at another auto parts store, and took the car back to the shop, assuming that because they had worked on the car three times in two weeks, they would replace the part. It was just a hose. It shouldn't take long to replace a hose like that. I know this for a fact. They refused to fix it. If it were just terrible service, I would understand, but the way they treat their customers is repulsive. A common stereotype for mechanics is that they're grumpy, conniving assholes. Grant Fought fits that to a T. He is a mean, condescending old man who is probably right on the peak of slipping into senility. You don't yell at customers. You don't point fingers in a customers face and tell him that it's his fault that the hose broke, despite being assured that it wouldn't. And one would think, after bringing in business, being charged multiple times for the same things, the customer would get a little more respect. Not here. I feel cheated, scammed and angry. He was just jerking me around, and caused me to spend far more money than I should have, despite not doing anything to help solve my car problems. The way he shouted at me (shouted!) made me disgusted. That's not how you run a business. It's unfortunate I can't give this place zero stars, because they certainly deserve it. read more

About a month ago my 2001 honda civic had it's transmission completely give out on a day trip up to Culver City. I live in the Orange County area where I have a regular mechanic so I was super frustrated that it didn't happen when I was close to home. It just so happened that Grant Auto was a few blocks away and the nearest shop the tow truck would take my car. I called the shop to see if they had time to take a look at my car and Ali drove out to meet me by my car to give me a quick diagnosis on what was going on. He gave me the news that I needed a new transmission and once the tow truck came we went to the shop and discussed my options. Since the car was 18 years old I asked if it was even worth getting the transmission fixed or if the value of the car was so low that I would be better off putting that repair money towards a new car. He told me that it depended on my financial situation and he has seen cars with about the same mileage as mine have other issues that could end up costing more down the line but he has also seen them, when well taken care of, last for a while longer. He said that if it were his car, he probably wouldn't do the repairs. This was so refreshing to hear! He could have easily said "absolutely, repair it!" and taken my money, but he laid out the pros and cons and said that if I wasn't in a financial place to buy a new car I should go ahead and do the repairs. He told me it was going to cost somewhere around $1500 to do the repairs and needless to say, I wasn't prepared to make that decision on the spot. He told me that I could take my time making the decision and that regardless of the choice I made, I could leave my car in the shop till I came to a conclusion. I went back and forth and long story short, ended up buying a new (to me) used car, but my boyfriend needed a car so we had the repairs done on the Honda anyways so he could drive it. Ali was so patient and understanding with us through the whole process and fixed the transmission for $1575 all in with labor and when it came time for me to pick it up, he even offered to drive it all the way down to Newport Beach for free! It really saved me the inconvenience of finding a way to get up to Culver City to pick up the car. The guys at Grant Auto go above and beyond when it comes to service and price! I would highly recommend this place to anyone experiencing car troubles! You won't find better service anywhere else. read more

My Step son took his car to Grant's to have the clutch replaced. While taking it apart, they found that another part had to be replaced. The car is 10 years old, the part is no longer made and they had trouble finding a suitable replacement. Eventually one was found and the car is back on the road. They felt bad for the inconvenience this caused and offered him a loaner if he needed one. They also did a brake job and wheel alignment to make up for it, for FREE. I'm thrilled to finally be able to say that Zaid at Grant Automotive is a saint. I've had the pleasure of meeting him twice - once at the shop, then at a nearby auto parts store. Both times, Zaid was courteous, patient and kind. The second time, he made my eyes tear up with how incredibly compassionate and generous he was. My car had stalled, and I figured I could purchase the part for several hundred dollars less than the dealer had quoted. Zaid happened to come into the store. On his own time, after his shop was already closed, exhausted as he was, Zaid helped me with the installation and wouldn't even accept a payment or tip outside of his shop. How is it possible in a time of so much greed and acrimony, to have someone be so nice and caring to a stranger? Polite and helpful. I went to three other mechanics first to fix a problem with my car but they either didnt hear the noise I was referring to or didnt know what was wrong. I brought Grant Auto a part and told them what I thought the problem was. They drove it around, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the old part with the new wheel bearing I bought. I bought a new battery at Autozone last month, and my 2008 Acura TSX has been weak to start, and since has failed to start a few times. Before I brought my car in to get repaired, I got a few quotes from other repair shops. I asked for Ali, and he helped me get the parts at a really great rate and installed the parts that I needed. He even was able to fix one of the parts, so that I didn't need to buy a new one, which saved me $100. Going to Grant Auto Repair saved me 80% total compared to the other estimates.
