It's very upsetting to put an order in they get everything wrong. I ordered 2 large green teas with honey and lemon. Also ordered a Popeye Salad with a toast with butter lightly toasted. So let's start with the tea both teas were small with no hint of honey just lemon so it tasted like a lemon tea. The toast was not lightly toasted it was hard as ever. The salad had tomato which I don't eat and did not specify that it was tomato in the salad and I was supposed to be boiled egg which they did not put in my salad. Breakfast foods are on point here: eggs, breakfast meats, etc. Potatoes tend to be a little bland, but whatever. They're always very fast and courteous. I was craving grits and belguim waffles this morning so i yelped it, this place showed up at the very top, so hubby and i decided to come in for breakfast...or so i thought. We came in and was greeted by melinda the waitress, she told us to sit anywhere we like. We sat in the very front. She asked if we wanted something to drink...i felt bombarded because i didnt know what i want or havent looked at the menu, i told her give us some time. She came back and i ordered a decaf iced coffee with half and half and 3 sugar. Hubby ordered lemonade. My iced coffe came back warm...very warm..the few ice cubes had melted, so i ordered a cup of ice...problem fixed. Hubby did not like the lemonade although he said it was fresh. I originally ordered waffle with 2 scoops of icecream but then i saw the beef sausage and eggs and homefries and i had to have it, i looked just like my gma use to make it, the chef chaged the order no problem. Located next to the Grant stop on the A train this diner/cafe has an old-school vibe to it you hardly see anywhere else in the city. It is 100% a local diner filled with local working class folks. No frills but fast, good, inexpensive food ranging from pancakes to gyros. Grab a bagel and coffee before hitting the train in the AM or come here on a sunday morning with the fam for some grub it is suited for both. Things i find endearing: They open real early and close real early (something like 4am-4pm) The waitresses will sometimes yell out the orders in old school code like if your order eggs over easy they'll say something like "two birds in a bush" instead Only 3 stars because honestly its just regular food served quick and easy but definitely no complaints in any area i will always come back when im in the mood for good breakfast/diner food. read more

Approximately around 7:30am on 4/18/2020 I stopped at what I called my TO-GO-TO breakfast spot for everything. I remembered my parents bringing me here as a child with my other siblings and we've kept the tradition going. Well this morning my sister and I walked into the Cafe to place our orders. Not to mention she WAS going to order breakfast for her entire staff and I was going to order for the entire family as usual. There were two men in the cafe that placed their orders already. One with a mask on and the other without a mask on. The woman that takes the orders didn't have a mask on also. The signs posted on the cafe window talked about social distancing 6 ft apart from other patrons. My mask was in the car and my sibling being a city supervisor had her mask right in her pocket. I kindly would've stepped out to retrieve my mask in the car to return to place an order if 1) The lady behind the register would've explained to us that we needed to have a mask on prior to entering in the cafe. No signs were posted about that whatsoever. Also we were only trying to place our orders and then go back in the car and wait for our orders to be picked up. That was short lived. The lady that takes the orders, makes the coffee and bag up the meals stated "You can't come in here without a mask on" in a rude tone. We then asked her why doesn't one of the gentleman in there that's waiting on his order doesn't have a mask on. They BOTH looked shocked that we had asked that question. Note before we went into the establishment we observed through the window that same patron didn't have a mask on and she didn't have one on either. Long story short. If we aren't allowed to enter into your establishment to place an order without a mask on, the customer that was in there without a mask should've been told the same thing. The lady's tone wasn't welcoming and you've lost not only two loyal customers but I will no longer call/pick up breakfast from here. I am saddened to have even eaten here. I grew up rite on elderts lane. And I'm pretty sure they were my first solid food as a baby. I recently just came back to New York after a year away and of course wanted some of the food I grew up on. They sold the business about three months ago and it's now a new place. It looks wonderful but the food is awful. They gave me a burnt omlet and burnt pancakes and coffee that might as well be tea they didn't even give my daughter a cup for her apple juice she has to drink it from the bottle. A 20+ year legacy has been turned to $#!t. I remember this place being so packed all the time and there's one other family here rite now as I type this. This is our "go to" breakfast spot. It's a hit or miss though; depends on who your server is and who is cooking. We went this morning for the 100th time and my Son's and my food was good, but my daughter and husband's food not so much. You can't go wrong with the waffles! I'm giving this 4 stars because after a week of eating in Manhattan, this place had the nicest service and cheapest good food during our week long stay. We were driving to JFK to catch our flight back to California and yelped to see what we could grab along the way. The staff here was really friendly and the food came out quickly. Our over easy eggs turned out over medium and my husband's hash brown turned out to be like the kind you get at McDonalds but they gave me 2 huge sausage patties with my breakfast and my son's Eggs Benedict was really good. The parking is street parking so you have to be lucky to find it near the cafe but it was easy to locate using the Yelp app. read more

My family and I have been coming to this diner for over 25 years. We used to love coming in for breakfast together or just stopping by to pick up a cup of coffee. Last year the original Greek owners sold the business to a family. I was disappointed to see that the new owners had let go of all the original waitresses. These women knew everyone, what they liked and how to make the neighborhood feel welcome. Though the new owners did a nice reboot on the decor they should have gotten new cooks. The "toasted" bagels are put in the oven, after a few minutes they have the texture of stale bread. The bacon is fried in the deep fryer, making it taste like oil and become chewy. Yesterday I went in for a turkey burger and fries and noticed a strange odor in the diner. When I got home both the burger and the soggy fries had a strange flavor and horrible after taste. It's as if the oil hadn't been changed in God knows how long. It gave me nausea for the remainder if the day. Even after having my order repeatedly fudged up over the months I continued to get food from here, because we have no other diners in the area. After yesterday I can no longer stomach the crappy food and inconsistent service. It's sad to see a staple if the neighborhood go down the drain. If you enjoy good diner food, this is NOT the place for you. read more
