My wife suggested that we go to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, and took the short ride which is the Grapevine Bear Creek Short Line which took about approximately an hour or so. They had this young lady who called herself a cowgirl and lead the group on a sing-along and we truly enjoyed it. The first class seats are actually more comfortable that the economy seats, and my wife and I and two other ladies were the only ones on the first class car. Would I go again.....can't say that I won't and can't say that I well. The young man working our area, Nick was a really nice young man, and was very knowledgeable when it came to trains. My wife had a snack on the train which consisted of, a candy bar, small bag of chips, and two soda pops total $7.00 and of course the picture was to commemorate the trip was $15.00 and they take case only for the picture. The most unremarkable experience ever. We came for Thomas the Train Day Out experience. We went on the train, took a 3-5min ride down the railroad. Stopped for 15min. And took a 3-5min ride back to the station. My kid was so disappointed that the train didn't continue down the railroad. He was so confused. Absolutely SKIP. It takes a lot to disappoint this kid. He is amazed by everything even the DART. So if this experience disappointed him- that says a lot. Im just left perplexed how they thought a 8min total train ride with a 15min idle train stop was an experience. read more

The train depot is just like a train station should be. The attendants were very friendly and helpful. There were clean restrooms. It does take quite a while to get to the stockyards as the train must pull off to side tracks for Amtrak. The ride is scenic and peaceful. There is a "skit" in both directions which was just OK. I went on this train ride when I was in 2nd grade, so this might be dated, but according to the most recent reviews, it hasn't really changed. When I was there, yes, it did take a long time, and I was surprised by how slow we were going. We kept stopping at turnouts (which occurred every 5 minutes). When we were halfway there, a woman had a seizure and injured her neck, so we had to stop, and the paramedics intercepted us at the tracks. The attendents' attentiveness and readiness were excellent; it's just the ride that was slow and pretty much uninteresting. read more

Had a wonderful time, would recommend to definitely get there earlier to get pictures with Santa before the ride to avoid the post train ride rush. My kids would give it 5 stars, but as a mom 3 for price alone Lol. We took them to the North Pole Express which sells out in July... yes July. For the price of tickets it's kind of a joke. Adults are $40, kids are $40 ($35 for traveling passengers and they get the same stuff). I really wish they had a more reasonable ticket price. If you want your full family together and only have 3 of you, you are required to buy the whole section, or hope no one is sitting there. They ask you to get there 1-1.5 hours early so you can walk around and be on time. We were told we could get on the train 30 mins prior but they didn't load us until about 5 mins prior and our take off was take. It goes for about 40 mins total. During that time they pass out cookies and a bell. You also sing carols. Once you get off they give you a coupon for a photo of Santa... but Santa photos don't happen until you sit through a 20 min musical production. After that they hand out the souvenir cups with chocolate milk (it was pretty good! Tasted like a frosty). Overall good experience for my 3 year old. My 1.5 year old was over it after 20 mins, but it was a fun memory to make! read more

Nice little train ride from Grapevine to the stockyards of Fort Worth which is a nice alternative from the get there mode of transportation. But remember, this is a slow and lazy trip that's cute and fun for younger passengers or this not in any kind of rush. A bit too corney for most people, the downsides of this train are the cramped seating, noisy A/C, cheap snacks from the local warehouse store, and no alcohol beverages. Please manage your expectations. Upside is it's a friendly venture to and fro as long as you remember you'll have to let faster trains on by. Brought the grandkids to ride the dinosaur train. Most of the ride is spent sitting still waiting for passenger trains which have higher priority to go by. It was like paying to sit in traffic. We could not hear the dinosaur presentation. The dinosaurs were two people in blowup dinosaur costumes like they sell at Walmart. Our 3 year said those are people dinosaurs. I expected some type of dinosaur exhibit or something. All we saw out the window was dozens of people's back yards and highway. I love that they refurbished the trains and some of the buildings, but the ride was unpleasant because of the time spent just sitting along the tracks. read more

The train is comfortable but the staff is not very considerate, particularly in dealing with the international tourists. Being Asian American, I felt a hint of racism. The two hours spent at the stockyards was utter confusion. There were lots of curio and souvenir places. but we could not find not one coffee shop. This has potential to be a kid-friendly historic adventure. These old rail-cars are beautiful, and what child doesn't love trains?! However; all of the other local trains use the same track - so it is subject to huge delays - certain to provoke tantrums from young and old alike. From the new Trinity Metro Texrail (to DFW airport), to the regular freight and Amtrak trains - our adventure turned into a disaster. Our leisurely trip was supposed to be about 80 minutes each way, but the first leg alone stretched out to 3 hours. Worse still; the delays meant there was no time to eat or sightsee in the crowded Fort Worth Stockyard. Since you can't take food from home, this limited sojourners to living on train popcorn. They expected us to go 7.5 hours without real food? Almost the entire train bailed in the stockyards, to eat and Uber home. Never again. read more

It looks like the trip to the stockyards gets a lot of hate, but people need realistic expectations. This is a vintage train that shares the rails with other trains including faster commuter trains. They tell you the schedule upfront (before you book your tickets) telling you how long the train ride is both ways. So if you have a problem with how long it takes, don't take it! We rode the Cotton Belt route from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards and back. It's a lot of fun, and the train is in really good condition. It's a unique way to take in the history of both Grapevine and Fort Worth. I wish they gave you a little more time in the Stockyards because an hour and half is a little short, but it's still a lot of fun! read more

Without a doubt the customer service here is top notch and Ion leads the charge. She sells tickets and runs the show on board. This is a great way to travel to the Ft Worth Stockyards. We had about an hour and a half to explore. Just about the right amount of time. You are dropped off in the station full of shops and restaurants. I would recommend if you came to eat. Do it as soon as you get off the train. Remember the cattle run (walk) happens at 4pm and starts just outside the station. As for the delays I read so much about...this is train travel expect to wait. This train operates on some other railroads tracks. They get priority, period. The waits were few but some lasted 10 minutes. They do have on-train entertainment which helps pass the time. It is about a two-hour ride with not much to see as Dallas-Fort Worth has done a good job of filling the gap between them. I would strongly recommend First class in the heat of the summer. Overall... take the train the ride, the history is awesome read more

So much fun!! We did the Sunday trip to Fort Worth and back to Grapevine. We didn't have any problems at all and it was a fun, chill way to spend an afternoon. The cars are very clean and comfortable and you go through some pretty neighborhoods and some that need to be cleaned up, but that has nothing to do with the train. We did first class and it was $26 each and you can buy snacks and drinks onboard. The 2 hours in Fort Worth is plenty of time to eat, wander and shop, and then watch the cattle drive and gunfight. This is a fun excursion for any age and at only $26 for the better tickets, it's well worth the money. You leave at 12:50 and you won't see the parking lot again til about 6:30. You'll get about 2.5 hours in the stockyards. The people complaining about speed, probably should have taken THE BRAND NEW TRAIN LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO THIS ONE. Literally the train goes back about 3 miles and forward. Back and front 25 min ride. The views are not pretty. Don't waste ur money.

Simply put- Don't do it. My husband booked this train for a family day and we have been stalled on the tracks for almost an hour. We are in first class and have spent over $100. The train staff is wonderful, kind and sweet. I would have much rather taken the Dart train as a train ride and driven to Ft. Worth. Enjoy time in Grapevine, take photos with the train and keep it moving. Kids get loud and anxious when they're expected to sit forever with no end in sight. read more

Took the North Pole Express with my 2 year old child. It was her first train ride, so she was delighted to see a real train. We rode first class and were provided with cookies, a bell for my child, and a mug of "ice chocolate" (chocolate milk) on our way out the door. The actors were great and the seating was comfortable; the scenery was nothing special, but my daughter didn't care. We loved our experience with the railroad. We took the round-trip train to the Fort Worth Stockyards. The weather was really nice and sitting in the open air car with the windows open, although a little noisy, was lovely. (We got bumped up to first class on the way back and that was a real treat. Much more comfortable benches with air conditioning.) The staff are wonderful - the older gentlemen in the traditional railroad garb were charming and really added to the effect of the vintage railroad. I wish they would have signaled "all aboard" before we took off from Fort Worth to head home; we were already on board, but I feel like we may have missed it if we hadn't been paying attention, or had been in the restroom or something. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little adventure and some fun. read more

I can't tell you how excited we have been to ride the train. After being directed by two people to board, as I was helping my 2.5 year old daughter to board a woman who identified herself as "Eve" yelled at our party. She chastised us raising her voice to see our tickets, which we had ready. There was no one inside the train to take them as we boarded and it seemed like she was irritated with her fellow employees as well who looked scared of her. Eve is a liability and should in know way be yelling at elderly people or a 2.5 year old or anyone for that matter. A disgraceful example of the Christmas spirit Grapevine is known for. read more

In the middle of the train ride my toddler granbaby looked at me with serious eyes and said " Nana I want to go home" and then again this toddler has been to every event in DFW so nothing excites him unless its over the top. Boarded the thomas train and it went may be a couple miles each way. Back to station in 20 mins tops. $25 per head for adults and kids. we drove longer than that to get there. It was painfully slow. The first time we took this train...we never made it there. We sat on the tracks for hours, then went back to Grapevine. We never made it to the Stockyards. The way the staff made it all ok was... We have gone to visit the vintage railroad a few times - mostly for kids events. The staff and the facilities are fantastic. Each time we've visited, they have had wonderful vendors and entertainment for all ages. The train tickets don't come cheap, but so worth it for the little ones. The first event we attended was the Polar Express and the other was A Day out with Thomas. I would highly recommend for parents who have kids who love trains! read more

Puffy is a great little piece of historic Grapevine and tons of fun for the entire family. I have been on this train more times than I can count. The train goes from Grapevine to the Stockyards and back. You can buy snacks on the train, or save up your appetite to eat once you arrive at the stockyards. They have holiday promos where dad's ride free on Father's Day and vice versa on Mother's Day. I even happened to show up once on a day when grandchildren rode free, and I was in my 30's, and happened to be with my grandparents who were visiting from out of town. I cracked up when they gave me a free ticket, but hey, I am a grandchild. If you go in the dead heat of the summer, do not and I repeat, do not sit in the inside cars. Yes the seats are comfy, but the windows barely go down, there is no air conditioning and you could die from heat exhaustion. It is miserable! Sit in the outside cars where the breeze (albeit hot breeze) hits you from all sides. And this is an important piece of information. Potty before the train ride and make your children go too. I was in the midst of training my then two year old who decided to poopy in his undies (I did the cold turkey potty training method), and so off we went in the dead heat of July to change the undies and do a little wash up. When I say the bathrooms on a plane are like the taj mahal compared to the tiny bathrooms on the train, I'm not exaggerating! It was by far the worst potty training moment I have ever had. My son and I barely fit in the teeny tiny bathroom, and it was definitely too small to do all I had to do in there. Moments later I emerged dripping with sweat (no air in their either) and I was not a happy camper. Will I take the train again? Definitely. It is a fun experience and a good thing to do when you have company from out of town. read more

The trains are fine. My one-star rating is for the LONG 2+ hour ride to the Stockyards. The train ride crawls at a snails pace. I literally could have walked faster for some parts of the trip. There is absolutely nothing worth seeing along the way. NOTHING!! Most of the route has tall trees and shrubs. The rest of the route is nothing but the back lots of warehouses, junkyards and run down homes. The slow train ride leaves you with just a few minutes to see the sights of the Stockyards because the train back to Grapevine will leave you behind. This is a cool stop on any roadtrip that takes you through Grapevine. There are some cool old train cars, art shows, and more on site. You can walk around the surrounding area and see lots of free stuff at the information center across the street. It looks like there are special events all year long including neat Christmas Time lights. read more

I can't believe this only has a 2.5 star rating! We went on this train and it is definitely getting 5 stars. There were three of us that took this train ride together, and one of us had originally purchased tickets online. When we got on the train and we were seated, we were seated in an outdoor car area. I'd estimate that at least 95% of the passengers in this seating area were children under the age of 10. Screaming, kicking, hyperactive children everywhere. We couldn't even talk amongst ourselves because it was so loud. The one of us who purchased the tickets was so disgusted with the situation, that she got off the train and went back to where you get the tickets and told the representative how awful it was. We ended up getting upgraded to first class for free! Once inside the first class car, it was so nice! Air conditioned, and you even got refreshments. Also, it was pretty much empty, so we sat anywhere we wanted. It was a very nice experience. The inside of the first class car looked like it was from the victorian era and had nice decor. I am seeing many reviewers complaining about the "ugly" views. Where do you commonly see train tracks running? Usually off the beaten path and not in "scenic" areas. What do you commonly see around train tracks? Yes, you will see backyards, walls, fields, and graffiti. This is not a luxury train ride. It is vintage. If you are looking for a luxury train ride with beautiful views, take an Alaska tour train ride or the one that goes around the Grand Canyon. Also, the length of the ride is disclosed to you before you purchase tickets so I do not understand what people are complaining about. read more

Save your money and drive to the stockyards. This experience is exciting for little kids who love trains. It's not an experience for adults. The staff makes the most of it, and are friendly. My biggest problem was the rush due to the 2 hour train ride to the stockyard. Stopping to reverse and change tracks constantly. Low priority means you stop for any and all other freight trains. Arriving late to the yards, we only had 1 hour to eat, and with the pace of service at the iffy restaurants that's all you had time to do. Train leaves without warning, so if your not boarding when it arrives you're left to fend for yourself (thank god for uber). Train ride back started off slow because you're constantly changing tracks to get back to the main one. They picked up speed though on the way back. My recommendation to this organization is to provide some sort of activity or entertainment that makes the ride interactive and enjoyable. Yes they have seasonal wine tastings sometimes, and I've read some things about Cowboys for a limited time, but get real. There needs to be a constant interactive experience, for which there was none. You're paying $26 to sit for two hours, admiring trash, construction, backyards, and junkyards. Then you get up to sit down and eat a fatty, greasy, salty burger only to then sit down for another 2 hours while that gross food sits in your stomach. And that leaves me to say I'd never recommend this to anyone, including parents with little kids who love trains. Drive to the stockyards on your own dime. read more

Awesome train ride. We went on the 1 hour train ride and if you were going for the views, don't go on this one. You see some cool things but mostly it's a bunch on trees and brush. They have a couple other options that go longer and into FW stockyards. The experience was great though. My 3yo loved the performance the train staff put on and laughed the whole time. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We are definitely looking in to doing one of the themed train rides later this year. read more
