No Call, No Consent: I was explicitly told by your staff that I would receive a call before any work beyond the $90 diagnostic was performed. That call never came. You performed and charged for services without my authorization, which violates what was agreed to during scheduling. 2. Tenant Not Authorized: My tenant was never authorized to approve work or sign off on charges to my credit card. He was under the impression that he was acknowledging a visit -- not authorizing repairs or charges. There was no pricing or estimate on the document he signed. Calling it a "work order" after the fact doesn't change that it was incomplete and misleading. 3. Admission of Fault: Your own representative (Rob) admitted in multiple phone calls that the technician failed to follow your internal procedures by not contacting me. He even stated the technician was reprimanded for that failure. That alone confirms your technician acted outside the bounds of proper conduct. 4. Dispute Still Unresolved: I requested a reasonable compromise: I offered to pay for the diagnostic ($90) and $22 for the minor work, but you declined and charged the full $229. Saying that Square "upheld" the charge only means it was processed -- not that it was justified. 5. Mischaracterization of the Issue: Framing this as a heroic effort during freezing temperatures is misleading. The issue is not whether the technician turned the heat back on -- the issue is that I was never asked or informed before you charged me for it. I made multiple good-faith efforts to resolve this with you privately. Your refusal to take responsibility or offer even a partial refund shows a lack of accountability. A wonderful experience with Ryan and Grass valley air conditioning. it was the total opposite of my experience with Forsters heating and air of Auburn Ca After Forsters heating and air came out to my house on numerous occasions and miswired,butchered,screwed uo everything that they touched, Ryan a very knowledgeable technician repaired and replaced everything that was destroyed by the utter incompetence of both the Forster tech and the owner of Forsters heating and air. As a former Otis elevator tech, I saw that the Forster people were 100% over matched and had zero clue on how to repair a LENNOX system. Ryan from Grass Valley air was very familiar with the Lennox system and fixed every screw up that Forsters made. page two of troubleshooting is this. If you replace any parts ,such as relays or printed circuit boards, you use wire markers and a notebook saying where the wires went to.No wire markers used anywhere,and the idiots miswired everything they touched. Ryan had to replace a board and a relay because of their incredible incompetence at Foresters .Ryan at Grass Valley air was fantastic and I highly recommend them for any issues with your system. After I listened to Dan`s bullshit ,about his blaming Lennox air conditioning for all their problems , I wrote a letter to him expressing how angry and disgusted I was with his company. No response. As far as I am concerned this is a rip off,incompetent,sleezy company. I wouldn`t have written this yelp review ,if Dan the owner had at least said that he was sorry about causing me so much trouble. I had a fairly modest problem {fan not turning off} that turned into nothing working, and them telling me that the unit was obsolete and unrepairable.What I really needed was a competent,knowledgeable,technician who knew what he was doing. Forsters failed miserably in that regard. In conclusion, Forsters heating and air is the second worst company in this area.Only A and E factory service is worse. DO NOT USE EITHER OF THESE TWO COMPANIES.When employees hate their bosses they leave. They're a little old school when it comes to their office paperwork but otherwise they are the best in the area as far as I can tell. I had them install a Mitsubishi ductless mini-split 2 air handler 24k BTU system (they are one of 5-6 certified installers per Mitsubishi's website in the area). Also from everything I have seen Mitsubishi is hands down the best manufacturer in this space and half their competitors are using private labeled Mitsubishi parts. Their installer, David, did it in about 1.5 days and he did it to perfection. We just used it and it works great. He was respectful, fast, did clean work, and went over all of my questions. He even made a solution that reduced the amount of line hide I needed and did some other finishing touches that are the touch of a true craftsman. He said he used to build cabinets, and if you know anything about that, it's all precision work with equal dexterity needed in both hands. I only used them for this HVAC and I know they do a lot of other services, but if they are even half as good in their other services you are in good hands. I got a quote from all of the competitors that Mitsubishi says are certified in the area. One of them offered me a Bryant system instead at $10k, the others were all in the $12k to $15k price range and their quotes didn't have the attention to detail that GVAIR's did. GVAIR did mine for $8k which was much more in line with everything I had seen for a fair price for these systems. GVAIR also didn't try to upsell me on anything they didn't think I'd need and said if I wanted some of the extra bells and whistles I can call them back as it's not had to add the extra stuff. read more

Hysterical that Bon finally responded to my review nearly 5 months after the fact. Also pretty funny he says they recommend cleaning twice a year since he and his crew never mentioned it. Not once. Most hysterical is his reference to our warranty which was voided the minute they injected dye into the system. Also especially irritating since his guys serviced the unit twice and never me tinned it was dirty or needed service. They also seemed blind to the obvious leak in the line. This business does not care about their customers and do not back up what they sell. They are all about collecting money from unsuspecting customers. Bad business, bad practices. They installed the completely wrong furnace earlier this year and didn't even realize it. I had to have it swapped out after I noticed. The new one then had 3 propane leaks requiring 4 visits to fix. Over three weeks ago, it quit, and they haven't been able to get the correct part ordered and delivered. My tenant has been without reliable heat for almost a month. The last two times I have called, they can't give me an estimated date it will be fixed. Unreal. I will never never use this company again once my one-year warranty expires on my new furnace. read more

My parents just used gv ac to diagnose their home heater that was not working properly. They were quoted $70 plus parts to send someone out. A gentleman was sent out and took almost 2 hours to diagnose...handed my parents a bill for $122 & told them they needed a $400 part. My dad called them about charging him almost double of what he was quoted...waiting to hear back from the owner. Update: My parents were credited based on the verbal quote. My parents AC wouldn't turn on so they called Grass Valley Air Conditioning to come out and look at it. Their response time was great....they came right over and diagnosed the problem. A bad "contactor". The technician was there a total of a half hour. The bill was $70 for the service call, but then to my parents surprise charged $128.27 for a $35 part! Almost a 400% mark up! We know that this was an exorbitant amount as my brother is an AC mechanic and not nearby to do the job himself. We also googled the part and it came up between $15-$40. We will not call them again. Update: Called them to inquire if possible error and gentlemen that answered stated that the $128.27 includes another $70 labor cost! This was not listed separately on the invoice. We'll take this one in the shorts, but not a good business practice. Still not satisfied. Will spread the word. read more

In April of this year G.V. A/C installed a Honeywell 22KW generator, which is a Generac engine, with a Honeywell cover. They also installed a transfer switch, along with 2 smart modules so A/C and electric dryer can both be running at same time PG&E power goes out. The warranty on the Honeywell is 5 yrs parts & labor vs. Generac which has a limited 5 yr. warranty. The total installation, including gas & electrical connection to generator took 3 days with minimal loss of power during the process. We've been using G.V. A/C since 2013 when they installed new Lennox heating & A/C units with 3 zones & Honeywell wireless thermostats. With this system we're able to remotely turn heat or a/c on or off when we're traveling using the Honeywell app. In addition we had a Lennox Pureair system installed with UVA lamps which filters out all allergens. They also offer a 3 yr. contract for this system, which includes both Spring & Fall service, 20% off on parts & priority service calls. It's a great deal!!!! We couldn't be happier with their service, dependability and extremely competitive pricing. Also, if we have an issue that needs to be addressed immediately, they are very responsive. I purchased a brand new heat unit for my home in Nevada City from this company, which cost $8,000.00 in 2020. When I called after installation to complain of fumes in the living room, they didn't know how to fix the problem. After the first winter of running the unit and discovering the entire system was sooted up and non-operational, this company didn't have a clue of what to do, and after one short visit refused to return. I went for an entire winter without heat because no local contractor wanted to come out and fix the problem - and no one knew what the problem was. Long story short, the problem was the furnace was not vented. Nada. No one from this company, nor the Nevada County Building inspector checked out the exhaust system, despite the CA building code and installation manual. The vent was covered up! It took a company from out of town to clean up the mess and yet another contractor to finally fixt the problems and give me heat. This all cost an additional nearly $4,000! Do not use this company, they don't return calls, they don't fix the problems and they surely are not a reliable company for installation. read more

This company is utterly unresponsive. I called on a Monday morning and asked to speak with someone about a specific heating and cooling system for a studio soon to be constructed. I was told I should speak with Rod, who was not available then and often is in the field. I emailed Rod and asked him to let me know when we could schedule a call to discuss the system. Rod did not respond. A few days later I called GVAC again and asked for Rod. Again I was told he was unavailable. The person I spoke with asked if I wanted to leave a message for Rod and I did: please ask him to respond to my email so we can schedule a call. Still, Rod failed to respond. (I have a hunch Rod would not respond to an email asking him to schedule a call because he assumes potential clients should make themselves available whenever he chooses to call, even though he is not available to receive calls himself. In other words, Rod apparently thinks he is more important than GVAC's customers or at least that his time is more valuable.) In any event, I then submitted an online inquiry through the website of the manufacturer which makes the system in which I'm interested. The manufacturer advised me that it forwarded my inquiry to GVAC, its local authorized dealer, but even then neither Rod nor anyone else reached out to contact me. I prefer to support local businesses when I have the option, but when I experience customer service failures like this, I buy online. GVAC certainly lost my business, which it made no effort to earn. read more

Near the hottest days of the year, our AC quit. Figured I was going to have to wait a week or more and pay over $1000. The tech arrived right on time and had it figured out in 15 minutes. 30 minutes after that we had our AC back. Kevin, the tech, was bright, quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. I had used GVAC a couple of years back to fix a problem with a small greenhouse heater. That problem could not be fixed by another company but GVAC got it fixed quickly. I contacted Grass Valley AC on 8-4-21 about getting a quote for two mini split units for a new shop we are building. After not hearing anything back from them for a month I called only to be told the estimator that had my project would not be back till January but they would give it to another estimator who would get back to me in a couple on days. Another month goes by and I call (10-4-21) one last time to be told I needed to come into their office to go over what I need. Obviously a stall tactic to cover for their inability to generate an estimate. I am letting everyone that recommended them know not to in the future. read more

Had this company install my Lennox furnace when our house was built, it's worked like a champ for a decade -- just had a minor problem for the first time recently. GVAC sent someone out right away, reasonable price for the replacement part, and they even sandwiched me in sooner by offering to come early a.m. which was perfect for my schedule. They also do really cool sheet metal work and fashioned a cone I needed for an outdoor structure, and some other metal sheeting I needed cut to size for an exterior project. Another time, I brought in some metal that needed straightening -- they did it right that minute and then didn't even charge me! So I'm a loyal and appreciative customer...really appreciate their hometown spirit and customer-first ways. read more

My experience is different from the others here. This is from several years ago, but I found GVAC to be dishonest. My heater stopped working and the tech said the controller board needed to be replaced along with the spark plug wire (this one uses a car spark plug to ignite the gas, don't know if that is standard practice). The guy forgot to take the old board with him. Just out of curiosity I put it back in after he left and it worked fine. When I called the company they refused to refund me the $200+ for the board. I even contacted the state contractor's board and they said it should be refunded. I would have had to take them to small claims court. It's been over 5 years and the old board is still working fine. BTW, the tech was already trying to upsell me to a new system. read more

I just had an HVAC system installed on my commercial building by Grass Valley Air Conditioning and the employees that handled the installation were both courteous and professional, and the work they did seemed to reflect that as well. The "front office" on the other hand was quite a different story. Firstly, the work as it turns out was started before the City of Grass Valley permit was obtained and when the subsequent application was initially denied, a tantrum was thrown at the city offices requiring a planner to drop whatever it was he was doing to visit the job site. Secondly, as is customary I paid a 10% deposit to start the job. I then paid another 80% at what was billed as 90% completion, and was then invoiced the remaining 10% at what was billed as 100% completion. The only problem was the job had not received the final inspection and approval from the city and in fact was almost a month away from that point. When this was brought to their attention, they said they had completed their work and therefore should be paid in full - even though the duct testing had not been passed and the final inspection had not been completed. They even threatened to put a lien on the building if I didn't pay. Really? Something seems very wrong with this picture? Suffice it to say they were paid within days AFTER the job had passed the final inspection. read more
