Great food, lightening speed service, and very reasonable prices. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All around great experience and clean, open seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the chopped salad (delicous), meatballs (came out piping hot, generous size), and carbonara (tasty). All were good but surprisingly the salad was my favorite! It looks so regular & unassuming but the flavors were super subtle, fresh, and just pleasant. The carbonara was nice but just slightly salty- still good enough to devour tho! Great spot.
Grassa has been on my bookmarks for quite some time, glad I was finally able to come in to check it out. We swung by for a final lunch before flying home. Im always on the hunt for vodka pasta so I had to get the fusilli alla vodka, we also tried the fritto misto, rigatoni with pork ragú, carbonara and the adult miles (Mac n cheese). Everything was soo delicious, fresh pasta with the perfect bite, great flavor and quick service. I can see why everyone recommends Grassa, it does live up to the reviews. A great meal and I'd love to check it out again next time we're in Portland.
If you're looking for a place that makes you question whether you've been underestimating pasta your entire life, Grassa is it. I ordered the carbonara, Caesar salad, and garlic bread, which in hindsight is the exact order you place when you fully commit to carbs and have zero regrets. The carbonara was rich, creamy, and perfectly coated every noodle like it had a purpose in life. The Caesar salad was crisp and refreshing, which helped me pretend this was a balanced meal. And the garlic bread? Buttery, garlicky, and absolutely necessary for cleaning the plate like a civilized person. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was chill and casual, the kind of place where you can show up hungry and leave happy without feeling rushed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were friendly, efficient, and kept everything moving even when it was busy. Overall, amazing food, great vibes, and a spot I'll definitely come back to. Next time I might branch out and try something new... but realistically I'm probably ordering the carbonara again.
Dined here for my birthday dinner - and from what I remember, it was very delicious and it was the only thing that was open late night from what I remember as we were walking down this cute neighborhood. I'm always craving pasta so that was a win! The quality of the pasta was amazing as it handcrafted. Taste, outstanding! We got seated on the booths and our server was attentive. Service was great as well.
My husband and I have been to Grassa PDX several times and it's always been awesome. We've tried a few of their pastas and they've all been delicious. We LOVE their Caesar salad. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We like that there are lots of tables to sit at and like the wooden ones best.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would love to try the Grassa in Portland sometime too! Definitely recommend to other folks looking for a bite before leaving on a trip if you're at PDX.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]Grassa's situated in the Vancouver Waterfront with an awesome view of the water.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon entering, I noticed how spacious the area was with booths, tables, and bar-height tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was stuck between the Radiatore and the Chicken Parm, so I asked the staff what they suggest. The staff was pretty quick to answer which I should choose and they did not miss. The chicken itself had the perfect crunch to it with the cheesy goodness complimenting the dish. The serving of spaghetti was a bit smaller than expected but it still hit the spot. This was definitely the safest choice for someone who isn't familiar with the restaurant or area in general. Would come back again!
Dined in on a Saturday evening and ordered the smoked pork Mac n cheese and carbonara with a side of garlic bread and everything tasted great. The Mac and cheese was perfectly al dente and had the cheese a a great robust flavor that was not too overpowering and addicting. The smoked pork was very tender and fatty and offered the dish some nice variety of flavor and texture. The Carbonara again was a good al dente and the overall flavor was great. The pork used for the dish also tasted great as well. The egg topped with plenty of parmesan was a great compliment to the dish as well. I will say I preferred the Mac n cheese over this however. The service was great; No complaints there. The carbonara will run you $15 and the smoked pork Mac n cheese $18. For home made pasta that taste great, you can't go wrong with those prices. Overall a solid Italian place that won't break your wallet.
I was looking for a place to have lunch after getting to downtown and stumbled on this place. I noticed they had pork belly mac and cheese on the menu and that was enough to get me to eat here. I ordered immediately as there was no line and sat down at a booth. Despite there being other tables, I got my food pretty fast, in about 10 minutes. Honestly, was expecting a bigger portion for 18$ but was still delighted with the mac and cheese. It was really good mixed in with the pork belly and I enjoyed every bite of it. Also, I liked their self-serve water station. I did not have to wait for anyone to bring me water when I finished my cup, I could just go and refill it myself.
Quite easily one of my favorite pasta places in Portland! Incredible house made pasta for a reasonable price. Love how they are able to get such bold flavors out of simple fresh ingredients. My husband and I shared the Cacio e Pepe and the butternut squash gnocchi and they were both amazing! The gnocchi was our personal favorite, with a really good balance of sweet and savory flavors, but the Cacio e Pepe was also delicious- very creamy and peppery. Highly recommend checking out this Portland staple if you haven't already!
We decided on Grassa after seeing it around the city during our trip and it did not disappoint. It was our last night and we were in the mood for pasta. You order before you sit and then they bring you your food to your table. We got the caesar salad and garlic bread to start with. The salad had the perfect acidity and loved that it came with anchovies. The bread went well with the pasta but definitely filled us before we got to the mains so I'd go with one. For the pasta we tried the carbonara and fusilli alla vodka. They both were really tasty and the homemade noodles combined with the sauces were delicious. I liked the egg in the carbonara and the combo of yoke and sauce, along with the guanciale. Overall, a solid spot for Italian.

This was my first time visiting, has been on my list to visit for a while. I tried their black truffle tagliatelle and it was amazing! The staff was really nice and checked in on my group. The space had such great lighting, and plenty of tables, great for small groups! I was really hoping to try their squid ink pasta, and the staff was kind enough to let me know that it may not be available until later in the year if the ingredients are available , so you'll definitely be seeing me again soon! read more

Look no further for a delicious pasta place with a homey feel. As we explore Portland we ran into a chain restaraunt that immediately caught my eye. If you told me this was a chain, I wouldn't believe it with all the amazing things this place does. The service was phenomenal and the people were so sweet. Here is what we ordered: To start we had the Fritto Mistro: this was the fried mix of peppers, calamari, and all the goods in between. It was lightly breaded and was not too oily. I would highly recommend this and would get it again. Mains: Carbonara: the noodles were thick, which threw us for a loop, BUT the taste was all there. Perfect balance and chewy and peppery. Fusilli Alla Vodka: I was recommended this by the man behind the counter and I would just like to thank him! This bowl of spice and sausage was to die for. Perfect balance of tomato sauce and noodles and it was the BEST Side: We got a side of garlic bread and it was a little oily, but delicious in all of the sauces. Definitely a must! Came here for lunch on Sunday based on a friend's recommendation. It was not busy aka no line. I ordered and got a number before grabbing a seat. The inside was clean and spacious, though the music was way to loud to carry out a conversation. The food was hit or miss: *Pork Belly Mac n Cheese (5 stars)*- I really enjoyed it and will 100% get it again. Large shell pasta with chunks of tender pork belly - heavenly! The flavor combo reminds me of Chinese stewed meat 红烧肉. The green onion on top was a surprisingly good touch to make this dish stand out. *Ceasar salad (4 stars)* - You know it's authentic when there is anchovies. The salad was great, with plenty of dressing, parmesan and fresh croutons. But the anchovies are so so salty. Advice: please do yourself a favor and cut it into very small pieces before putting it in your mouth. Otherwise it will feel like you just ate a lot of salt, and you will need to have some water ready to wash it down. -Carbonara (2 stars) - I'm so disappointed by this dish. It has been my go-to for breakfast, especially since it comes with a fried egg. But this version was so dry. The bucatini was all stuck together when I tried to stir. Sadly, the egg was the only enjoyable part of this dish. The portions are big, 1 appetizer and 2 pasta dishes are plenty to share between 2 people. read more
Haven't been to Portland in a while and I got recommendations to check out Grassa for their handmade pasta! You order by the counter when you first walk in, get a little number, and then they will bring your food to your table. -Carbonara - loved how the egg yolk and cheese flavors were prominent but not too overwhelming! They use bucatini which is kinda like a "thicker spaghetti" but I thought it could have been cooked a little longer for it to be truly al dente. There was a generous amount of pancetta and it was pretty solid too! -Wild Mushroom Alfredo - I'm a huge fan of mushrooms so the mushroom flavors definitely hit the spot! What I found surprising was the addition of citrus flavors that definitely vibed with the mushrooms in an interesting way! They also included fried lemon and bread crumbs/crunchy stuff that added a twist to this classic dish! -Fritto Misto - the cripsy but chewy calamari was delicious! They also included fried onion and fried lemon pieces. Fried lemons sound weird but they were surprisingly yummy with their light batter and seasoning!! There are multiple locations of Grassa and this one was in downtown/old town-ish area. Service was great! They let us put our luggages by the staff area. If you are in search for comfort food this is the place to go. We loved both salads. They were fresh and tasty. Loved the brightness in the Caesar with lemon rinds and anchovies with the right amount of salt and flavor. The New Haven pasta was prepared with tender clams and bacon pieces. The pasta was also fresh. We will be back and be regulars here. Can't wait to try their other dishes. read more

The pasta here is by far my favorite pasta. It was the perfect amount of creamy and even look delicious. The customer service here was awesome. They were quick to help and order. It's a very laid back place to hang out with close friends/family, and could fit a good group of people! read more

Great and affordable pasta in Portland! It's a fast casual restaurant. You order with the cashier and grab a number. They'll bring over your order and you'll bus your own tables! We tried the meatballs which were on the sweeter/marinara side - they were great! The spring pea ravioli is definitely a spring dish. It was light, very cheesy, and if you're a pea lover, I'd recommend! I love the ambiance of this restaurant and location. Would be a cute casual date night spot :) read more

My friends took me here after arriving in Portland and was excited to try Grassa out! We went in to an area which was for sandwiches and we were confused about where to order the spaghetti from; that area is to the left and you'll know you're in the right area when you're looking at the menu on the wall. I went for the mafaldine ($16)which included lamb sausage, tomatoes, mint, sweet peas, ricotta salata, and black olive crumbs. I also got some garlic bread ($4) to share as well. They gave us a number and then make sure you grab cultery, water, and cups before you head out! They're right next to where you order so you can't miss it. After that we headed outside to the tables on the street. The food came 10-15 mins later and I enjoyed my order. The spaghetti kinda looked like lasagna sides but not as thick, but they were able to seep up all the sauce that came in there. Kinda on the heavy side; sauce is a bit sweet with the mix of the sausage. I personally enjoyed my dish. They have a pork belly mac and cheese that I took a bite out of; their pork belly is a little bit sweeter than most but I guess it does bring about a taste that makes the dish stand out from the rest of the cheese. Garlic bread was good and fluffy. Service was only when they dropped off the stuff so for right now treat like it's a to-go and eating outside. Make sure you wipe up and clean the table before using it; seems they don't. (There's paper towels on the table and they have trays to put your plates/trash in after you're done) read more

This place is a bit pricey for being an order and pay at the counter. But the food is soooooo good! We got the meatballs, Caesar salad, Brussel sprouts and the tomato penne. Everything was delicious and I love that they offer gluten free pasta. Their lemonade drinks are way tooooooo sour though. They need to improve the flavor of those. read more

Appetizers/ Sides Caesar Salad - $8 romaine lettuce with lemon and anchovies. Simple and refreshing 3 1/2 stars Frutti Mista- $12 fried calamari with lemon, red peppers, and fennel 4 stars Brussels Sprouts- $6 mustard seeds and vinegrette 3 stars nice but too heavy on sauce Entrees Carbonara - $13 bucatini with pancetta and Pecorino cheese 3 stars Spaghetti and meatball 3 stars Cacio e Pepe $11 truffle butter, cracked pepper 3 1/2 stars For a simple quick meal with reasonable prices, it's nice to eat here. Amazing tasting food. The fresh pasta is so yummy and their sauces are so flavorful. Along with our pasta we had garlic bread and the Brussels sprouts. I could hardly recognize the dish as Brussels sprouts when it arrived to our table. That will happen when you turn a vegetable into something that is probably no longer that healthy lol, but I'm not complaining because they tasted heavenly. The staff was really nice and the guy who took our order recommended the Brussels sprouts. So shout out to that guy for the great rec. At Grassa, you order at the register and are given a number. Then they deliver your food to your table. I really like this form of service. It's quick and casual. Even though the vibes are easy and casual, the food is top-notch. Feels like this place should be better than it is! Pasta is house-made and well-made, but the dishes just didn't come together for us. I suspected I was making a mistake with the carbonara when I saw a fried egg, and I was right. The egg was a bit of a cop out, but I expected it to at least be over-easy. Instead it was medium to hard cooked. Which means it produced no sauce for the pasta. Overall it made for a dry experience. I ordered some meatballs on the side, and they were not bad. We also had some pork belly macaroni at the table. The macaroni and sauce were actually very good, but the sweetness of the pork belly just didn't work for me. Cocktail was ok, but I wish they had more non-sweet options. Overall, not a bad place, but squarely middle-of-the-road for a pasta place. read more

So in love with this place. The pasta is reasonably priced with hearty portions. The FLAVOR is unbeatable, especially with the pork belly Mac and cheese. It was so rich and creamy, and the pork belly adds so much more dimension to the meal. We also got the Cacio e Pepe and carbonara. Loved the truffle butter in the cacio e pepe! Additionally, the workers there are so helpful and nice. They keep everything clean and had such a great attitude when I went. It's also conveniently located in downtown Portland with a bunch of shops around in the area. A must go for everyone visiting the Portland area! read more

Good, affordable handmade pasta. I ordered the Cacio E Pepe for dine in and the Rigatoni to-go. The Cacio E Pepe was tasted great at first and definitely tasted handmade, however after a while, it gave me a headache eating it due to its richness. I took it home and reheated it and it tasted fine after -- no headache. The Rigatoni was not anything special, I would recommend skipping this. The shredded meat that came with it was good, but not worth getting the Rigatoni solely for this. Overall, if you are craving affordable handmade pasta, this place is a solid choice. read more

Good food made fast with great service! They do have gluten free pasta that they will cook in separate pasta water. The flavor was amazing, the gluten free pasta texture was acceptable. My family loved their homemade pasta dishes. My daughter ate her entire plate which rarely happens... my husband had the Mac n cheese with pork belly, he was nearly licking the plate. Next time he will probably request a spoon so he can finish the sauce. read more

Looking at the photos of the food I thought this was a sit down restaurant because the plates looked so nice. I was surprised when I walked in and discovered it was a fast casual place. It was a great place for a quick dinner near our hotel. Caesar salad - they go bold with whole anchovies. Nice salty bites but a bit too salty if you didn't break up the anchovy a bit. The preserved lemon was a really nice touch. Fritto misto - loved the super thin fried preserved lemon! Great calamari and super thin onion as well. Carbonara - came with bucatini, wasn't expecting that shape (I missed that detail on the menu). Because of the thick noodles, I thought it was a little bland but bf liked it a lot. It could've been because we split it into separate plates and the sauce wasn't distributed well enough. I liked the large pancetta pieces though, more like huge chunks of pork belly. read more

We decided to come here after finding out that another place would have a 45 minute wait. We arrived around 1140 on a Sunday and got seated in about 15 min. Their menu is very small but out of the six dishes we ordered 5 were a hit. One was salty and not too great (melfadine with lamb). You have to order from the front desk once you are seated and then buss your own plates after you're done. I loved my corn tortellini, seems like it was a seasonal item. It was buttery, lemony and the corn was sweet. The pasta sheets were cooked to perfection. My bf got the rigatoni and meat balls and he thoroughly enjoyed both of it. The rigatoni was flavorful and cooked well. My friends got the pork belly Mac and cheese and thought the pork belly actually resembled the Chinese braised pork belly but it tasted good. The only disappointment was the lamb melfadine, it didn't have much taste other than saltiness. Otherwise I recommend the other items that we have ordered. read more
I was a bit confused on how this works, but basically you order your food inside, and then grab your own table outside. The worker was SUPER friendly and explained how everything worked. She even recommended drinks for us to try (rosemary vodka sour). I really enjoyed the drink (bonus points for not being able to taste the alcohol as much). We grabbed and table and the cashier called our number when the food was ready. Everything was packaged to-go. My friend got the pork belly mac and cheese AND WOW. Highly recommend this dish, the pork belly LITERALLY melts in your mouth. I've never had this food combination before but it did not disappoint. I tried the cacio e pepe pasta and it was semi filling (with a slice of garlic bread). The only downside of eating outside is that the pasta gets cold really quickly :( They have paper towels and spray for you to clean your own tables. The choices are a bit limited so I'd come back once or twice to try some new dishes. read more

Dining at Grassa was a truly unique experience! When you walk in, their menu is on the wall and changes as their availability of the dishes/drinks comes and goes. You order with the hostess with the option to pay right away or to leave the tab open, they give you a number, and you select where you'd like to sit; They bring your food to you when ready. Regardless of the more relaxed, independent-style dining, everyone from the hostess to the kitchen staff were friendly. The pasta was probably the best I've ever had and the meatballs were a perfect pairing! 10/10. read more
