This was a lovely dinner out! The restaurant feels upscale but not too intimidating. Having almost everything in wood is such a nice, aesthetically pleasing choice, and I enjoyed it. Service was quick and our server was very pleasant. I was particularly pleased with how clear the menu is about ingredients and allergens. As someone with a life-threatening allergy, I feel a lot better seeing potential allergens in bold red lettering. There were also a number of vegetarian options, and most of the menu can be modified vegetarian, which is a huge plus. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and garlic bread. The mushrooms were absolutely decadent and I was very happy with the sun dried tomato garlic bread. I had the vegetarian scampi, which was good. My partner liked his dish as well (I believe he ordered the tagliatelle). I would say the price point is a tiny bit high for the food, but it isn't egregious and the ambiance is nice enough that it balances out. Overall, we had a wonderful time! We needed a memorable final meal, and this charming spot delivered a perfect five-star experience. From the moment we sat down, everything was fantastic. Located in Portland's trendy Pearl District, Piattino combines traditional Italian flavors with the bounty of fresh Italian ingredients that are bountiful in the Pacific Northwest. As exemplified by their menu which features a number of traditional classics that one can find in the bistros of both Rome and in New York, Piattino represents classic comfort food crafted meticulously by the hands of their hard-working team. Located on the corner of Northwest Everett Street and Northwest 12th Avenue, I came to Piattino with two local Portlanders who swear by their quality food and service, as they insisted that when we found the time to hang out, it was here where we were going to do it! Finding parking nearby on a late weeknight evening was surprisingly plentiful and we were already sitting inside with last minute reservations hearing their team craft pasta dishes right from the pan and crafting pizzas using their massive stone oven. The menu at Piattino is separated into categories including Cheese & Salumi, Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Entrées of the oven & Handmade Pastas, Handcrafted wood fired pizzas, specials, and Handcrafted Cocktails. To start our meal we decided to share a Polenta Cake, which was served with mushrooms and served on a bed of San Marzano sauce over pistachio pesto. Perfectly cooked and sharable, it only made me want more food because I knew our meal was going to be that good. For dinner, our server "Pickles" mentioned a number of enticed Specials and one caught two of our attention, as their Manzo Manicotti which was pasta tubes filled with natural beef manico, topped with béchamel, San Marzano sauce, pecorino and mozzarella was so intriguing that we both decided to order that entrée. The other person in our party ordered their Risotto al nero, which was a Venetian classic Squid ink risotto with squid, shrimp, and cherry tomatoes. Although they were not a fan of risotto so they easily replaced it with additional shrimp. To pair with our meal some of us ordered their Huckleberry Lemonade which was a refreshing spin on the traditional classic. Our entrées were cooked to perfection with the cast iron pan that held our manicotti. They were hearty without being overindulgent as it was the perfect amount of food for one diner to enjoy. When paired with the perfected grilled bread and my non-alcoholic libation, it was a meal to savor over. My dining mate didn't prefer their risotto so "Pickles" was gracious enough to change it to their suggested entrée of their Hand cut Vegetarian Pappardelle, which featured roasted cherry tomatoes, asparagus, garlic, onions and mushrooms. With one of my dining mates ordering Italian Wedding Soup to start and a Tiramisu to enjoy for dessert, our entire meal cost $136, before gratuity was added in, which was actually quite reasonable considering how much food we enjoyed this evening. I can't wait to come back and try their handcrafted pizza pies because with homemade sauces and fresh ingredients, you know they are bound to be delicious! This was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I've had in quite some time. My friend and I were able to get a seat at the bar without a reservation and we thought we were lucky since they were busy. The amount of time it took for us to get our drink orders in was lengthy plus we had to tell the bartender we wanted to order food. We ordered bread and calamari which came out at an okay time. I wasn't sure what I wanted for my main but my friend did so she put her order in first. Once I was ready we waited for awhile before the bartender came over to check on us and asked if I knew what I wanted. After a bit my friend got her food but I was still waiting on mine. She ended up finishing her meal and mine still hadn't come out. I was at the point that I wanted to get the check and leave since they didn't even ask if we wanted more drinks. Once we were ready to leave my main came out and I ended up asking for a box since I wasn't even in the mood to eat it anymore. The bartender told us a few tables had snuck their orders in before us but I feel she maybe forgot to put the order in. I had ordered the chicken carbonara and for some reason it had red onions in it and the noodles were not the typical carbonara noodles either. I honestly wish I had told them I didn't want it anymore but I didn't want it to get thrown and be wasteful. When we asked for the check she didn't even have the right items on our bill and it took awhile for her to come over and get us checked out. We didn't want to pay on one check either but she didn't bother to ask that before giving us our tab. The only good thing about this place was the bread and the mango martini. It was such a disappointment for being from out of town and wanting a nice dinner while I'm here. read more

Good customer service but questionable value. Portland is ample with dining opportunities, and it is rare to notice a lacklustre experience in the city. However, I would probably not return to Piattino unless prompted. I chose to dine here solo after a long day of apartment deep cleaning, and I was excited to finally give it a shot after living nearby for a few years. It can be easier to walk further than a block or two away, so here I finally am! When I entered the lovely space, I was immediately greeted by the team, who were lovely by the way. I decided to sit outside to enjoy the weather, and there are several tables of varied sizes so your group can find something no matter the occasion. Once sat, the team came by to check on me a little too often. Twice I did not have enough time to order a drink, but, I also could have been slow with the menu. I decided on the simple aperol spritz to save time. When it arrived, I was surprised by the small size and large amount of ice. For a cocktail more than $15, be more impressive than this. It's easy. The server helped me decide on my main, since there were several enticing options. I settled on one of the lamb pastas, and I was glad that it wasn't a quick table service, but, it was also interesting that it took almost 30 minutes to receive one order of pasta. Perhaps everything is made by hand at the moment orders are submitted? The pricing of the food was too high for what it is. This experience was below that of other nearby Italian places, with massive portions, so that is what you are paying for. There is no way I would have paid more than $25 for what I ordered, yet, my price for the entrée alone was $32. Again, this experience can be improved. There was not a single small appetizer aside from bread below $11 either. Not even olives! I enjoyed the service, but, the price of my solo evening being over $60 with tip was quite a turnoff. Not worth a return for that surprise. Hope they can reinvent themselves slightly since it is a great team with a great location. read more

I made a reservation to celebrate mother's day a week ahead of the official day through Opentable. There is a no-show/last min cancelation charge for the reservation, which isnt an issue for us but worth noting. We were greeted warmly as they open their doors, and sat down at a table repurposed from a sewing machine (cool!) We started off with some garlic bread and calamari, both were amazing and all ingredients tasted fresh. The coastal storm cocktail is well balanced, and the in-house smoked salt compliments the drink very well. Our daughters shared a Margherita pizza which was well made, and straight from the brick oven. Both the lamb papperdelle and eggplant parm had one of the best pastas we've had, close to what we tasted in Italy years ago. If I have to nitpick anything, the eggplant parm was well made, but didn't quite have anything that stands out (aside from the pasta itself.) We had a new server who was guided by an experienced staff, both were wonderful. My wife was very happy with the meal, both the ambience and the food, so this is definitely a win in the books! Pistachio martini caught our eye but felt like dessert so went with the sidecar. Very refreshing. Started with a kale salad, it has this basil dressing that was outstanding. The acid made the tomatoes just jump out of the dish. We shared a pasta dish and a pizza. Pasta was very nicely done, tomato sauce w sausage was very tasty. Pizza was not as chewy as other places but I really liked how the crust stood up to the toppings. The cheese was pretty good on that. Too full for desert or that pistachio martini. Next time! Horrible customer service! Visited on a sunny Saturday at 1:30pm, hoping to enjoy the patio. Only one other table was seated outside--a party of two. We spoke to the host and were given menus. Shortly after, the other table got their salad and pizza (about 10 minutes after we arrived). Meanwhile, we received zero acknowledgment from any server. No water, no greeting, nothing. The server returned to fix the other table's incorrect pizza and again ignored our table completely--even though we were literally seated behind them. Then a new party was seated outside, and unbelievably, they were approached by staff while we continued to sit unnoticed. After 17 minutes with absolutely no service, we left and had an amazing experience elsewhere. To be clear: this restaurant was not busy--just a few other tables inside. There's no excuse for this level of negligence. Save yourself the frustration and don't bother with this place. read more

Love the fact that we could pick our own and try something new - lamb shank 3/5 - decent flavor but the lamb was super dry, desperately needed a sauce and the polenta cake didn't have much flavor - lamb parpadelle 2/5 The lamb was definitely very yummy with the sauce BUT the noodles were undercooked, stuck together, and also somehow were mushy and watery. I've never left a pasta restaurant hungry and it was pretty inedible. Good thing they had bread to fill me up - arincini 2/5 The sauce was yummy (albeit a bit spicy) but the inside had too much breading and lacked any flavor - creme brûlée 4/5 Very yummy, love the addition of lemon zest! We came in for dinner right before a show at the Armory just a block away. We had reservations and good thing we did as the inside is quite small and the place filled up right away. We were seated at a cute wooden top table, which was on top of an old sewing machine - we figured that out after resting our feet on the pedal and feeling it push down to move the wheel - fun. We started off with drinks - a watermelon vodka drink and a gin and butterfly pea drink, both very brightly colored and served in martini glasses. They were sweet but tasty and fairly strong. For appetizers, we ordered the beet salad and baked stuffed mushrooms to share. The beet salad was good but had raw oats sprinkled on top as a garnish which seemed a little odd. The mushrooms were absolutely delicious - they tasted like garlic bread. For dinner, we got the pesto chicken and pasta, the seafood Alfredo, and the Cioppino. The protein portions were quite large and the pasta was a perfect Al dente. I was actually pretty impressed since I had some lackluster pasta experiences elsewhere recently. For dessert, we got the pistachio cannoli, which came as a plate of three - perfect for sharing and having just a touch of dessert without getting too fool. Service overall was friendly, but a bit slow. They were full so it was understandable but between the two severs covering our area, the other server who we didn't have was definitely more attentive to his tables. All in all a good experience. Anniversary dinner, perfect pick, loved it. House made everything from pastas, pizza, San Marzano sauce, breads, mozzarella, and so many menu choices! Can't believe it's our first time through their doors, Piattino having established 11 yrs in Pearl already! Food 4/5 Tuscan Salad fills a large plate and easily shareable for 2 and just $11. Dressing was slightly sweet vinaigrette, shallot mint over Organic romaine, dainty white Corona beans (many), and scattering of green beans and pitted quartered buttery mini Castelvetrano? olives my fave with large flakes of shaved Parm. This was actually my fave dish and hubby thought he'd just take a few bites, but eating to the end even with a sweeter dressing he normally passes on! Eggplant Parmesan $24 was a single stack of 2-3 pcs baked in a mini cast iron with plenty of thick house San Marzano sauce and cheese, sans breadcrumbs. Very enjoyable would order again. Comes with pistachio pesto Fettuccine that was a wee bit soft (overdone) and loose in a wet sauce instead of clinging to noodle, guessing from pasta needing a few more in the strainer before joining the pesto. Flavor is good though. Calabrian Pizza $19 Hubs always requests extra sauce and probably shoulda requested a tad longer in oven for a harder crisp, since extra sauce naturally makes it wetter. This came out with a brown bottom, kinda firm, but lacking that crackly crisp he prefers, and the pepperoni too he likes it curled to a crisp, so blackish all around next time lol, and actually with a lil less cheese...yeah that's a thing too heehee! Salumi gives a definite oink factor on nose along with mushroom medley a nice meatiness of it's own but Calabrian Chile was much less prominent and pepperoni not so spicy. Sauce has slight zestiness so Hub ranked it 3/5 but as much for the cooking than for overall taste. Ambience 5/5 Long intimate dining room with lots of wood accents reclaimed from 1800s barn in Aurora, OR instantly warms you, drawing you in from the cold wet streets on a winter December evening. Further enhanced by the old schoolhouse lights that span the sky-high towering ceiling of embossed tin tiles, stacks of cut wood to fire the pizza oven with it's tall stainless chimney daring you to put it to use over the house pasta that begs your attention, to individual Live Edge tables that beckon you to sit and enjoy. Then the blue bar lights and sparkly fairies remind you it's cocktail time, this room will totally bowl you over with charm and dreamy vibes.
