We had another great dining experience at Grasshopper Irish Pub & Restaurant. There were 11 family members who gathered for a birthday celebration. All of the food including Irish Beef Stew, a Dublin Burger, Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash, Philly Cheesesteak, French Dip, a Sliced Steak Sandwich, & a Grilled Chicken Italian Sandwich were delicious. We had some appetizers, as well- French Onion Soup, Chicken Noodle Soup & Buffalo Fingers-all good. Many of us brought home part of the meals because of the generous portion sizes. Our server, Samantha, kept our glasses filled & was very attentive. She went above and beyond by bringing the birthday cake out with lighted candles and then cutting the cake into individual pieces-thanks Samantha! I recently came here with my girlfriend on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and we got a seat right away. No appetizers for us this outing. We just ordered main dishes. We had the French Dip W/ Au Jus & Shepherd's Pie. Both of these dishes were delicious. The shepherd's pie was loaded with beef, mashed potatoes, and veggies. It was awesome. The roast beef and mozzarella sandwich was just as good. I loved the au jus dipping sauce. It made the sandwich that much better. The fries were nice and crispy too. I ordered a French Dip with au jus sauce. They put cheese on it! French Dips do NOT have cheese on them. I sent it back and told them to take the cheese off. The au jus sauce tasted like soup out of a can - very salty, too. The French Fries were old and tasteless. The pickle was old, and the cole slaw was nothing but a teeny, tiny plastic cup of water with tiny bits of cabbage floating on top. I have never, ever been more disappointed in a restaurant. The server got several bills mixed up at the end of the meal. Fortunately for me, I paid in cash; but others who paid with credit cards had a terrible time. We drove there from West Milford. My husband sometimes drives by this restaurant located in the historic Newfoundland Public Schoolhouse building and has been wanting to try it, so we finally did after a hike at nearby Apshawa Preserve. It's a traditional Irish pub and sports bar. Everything is perfectly OK. Pretty standard/basic pub menu and beer list. Our food was fine (Grasshopper burger w/ fries & shepherd's pie) except the lobster bisque which must've had a whole salt shaker dumped in it as it was virtually inedible. My friend and I get together once a month and we love going there. The beer is nice and cold and our favorite is the grasshopper burger. Delicious, except for yesterday when we went for our lunch. Idk what happened but the burger was dense, no flavor. I asked for medium and got a well done and dry. I could not get through half a burger. Couldn't even finish the sweet potato fries. No flavor either. And bacon on burger had burned ends and was hard. The bread/bun even tasted different.. what happened?? Hope they go back to what they had although I, and my friend, are now hesitant to try again. Very disappointing. Good luck, bring back your chef if she/he is no longer there. My first time here, and all i can say is that this establishment is amazing. The staff, the food, and the ambience is top-notch. This place was recommended by a friend of mine and we decided to throw my husband's 50th birthday surprise dinner. We had 20 guests and Sat at one long table. The whole restaurant was in on the surprise. They all clapped and whistled when my husband walked in. So sweet! It was such a fun filled evening with great food and friends. Everyone loved their meal. I can recommend the corn beef, chicken fajitas, steak Cobb salad, shrimp scampi and the sangria was on point! They even let me bring in my own cake. I have seen the Grasshopper Pub for several years and finally was able to stop for a meal. What a mistake! I had the Shepards Pie which was the worst I ever had, the gray mystery meat looked like it had been through a food processor. My friend had Shrimp and Chicken Fajita with Black beans and rice. The chicken was dry, and the Black Bean were RANCID. She ate 3 beans and stopped. I tried 4 beans, and the taste shot up my sinuses with a scent of some type chemical. I guess that is what rancid black beans smell like. I mentioned this to the waitress, but she did not bring the Manager. After my 30-minute ride home tasting the Pie as I drove, I immediately ran to my bathroom. I had brought the Shepards pie home and took it outside for some animals to eat and a racoon came but avoided the mystery meat. I would avoid eating at this Pub. read more

During this pandemic, it is almost impossible to get outdoor seating on a busy night (in my case, Friday night) unless you have reservations. Drove up 23N and decided to stop by here since the availability looked promising. I have been to other Grasshopper chains before but it was my first time in this location. My friend and I were able to get seated right away and they have a lot of outdoor dining space which is nice. They have umbrellas for all the tables on the deck which is great because it was raining pretty hard when I went this past week. There are tents in the lower area by the parking lot. Food is decent, it's your usual bar food and with all things considered, they are doing a great job in servicing customers. Staff is extremely friendly and the food comes out very quickly. read more

Chicken fajita is a must have. Chicken is well marinated with a little kick. Does wonders when you wrap it with vegetables. Even the side rice and beans were great. Great portion and friendly price. Definitely recommend. Buffalo wings are good but nothing special. French onion soup is solid. Recommend. Overall, great balance of quality and price. Don't look anywhere else. Terrible place, don't go there. I came in at 4 PM on Sunday and the place was packed with loonies and alcoholics, the majority seemed to still be hung over from the night before. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed here before as we have been many times. In the past we had hot or miss meals but now we almost consistently have a great meal when we come here. Things I've had that I've liked have been the salmon, salads, fajitas, chicken francese and chicken parm. Ironically we had the corned beef and cabbage and the shepherds pie and didn't like them. Great comfort-style restaurant. Great themed decor and a warm feel, which is the same as the food. It can get a bit loud during the busy hours but nothing too crazy. Almost all of the dishes we have tried so far have been great, the pot pie, Shepards pie, fish n chips, and sausage dish (forget the name), have all been great. Service is usually good but can get slower during the busy hours which is understandable. Price is reasonable. Would recommend for a family outing or to meet up with some friends. read more

The hostess was unprofessional and rude. She humiliated my family for no reason. There is a way to be discreet if you have a issue with a patron.
