Wow hidden gem for sure. Food was great! Super reasonable price too. Eat in and you'll be served tea and all the sauces your heart wishes. The fried mushroom wontons (?) were super delicious, and the vermicelli hand rolls were deliciously fresh. Service is super accommodating and atmosphere is that of a mall.

I sought this place out of convenience as it was walkable from my other destination. It's in a food hall, and ordering was confusing. They made it seem like they weren't providing service and you had to order online, but when I did they told me I could have ordered in person. The food hall was a tad sketch, not the cleanest, so I was happy to move on. The hot pot dish I got had a zingy flavor with abundant lemongrass and I enjoyed it, but it didn't come with rice. Given the lack of ambiance and service, the value of money for food was not what I'd hoped. You can definitely get some interesting vegetarian cuisine here if you're willing to live with the limitations.

Grasshopper is a solid choice, but not necessarily one I would choose again soon. It is located inside the Super 88 Food Court, which doesn't have the best decor or vibes. My partner and I ordered and split the house lo mein and the sweet and sour tofu chicken fingers. Starting with what they did well: I really liked the "beef" on the lo mein, my partner liked the "shrimp," and I thought the vegetables and the sweet and sour sauce were perfect. To me, though, the tofu chicken fingers had WAY too much breading and ended up tasting more like fried dough with a tiny nugget of tofu inside. Additionally, I felt like the lo mein did not have enough seasoning. The portions are large, so you do get good value. The person who took our order was attentive and the food came out quickly. Not my favorite but I can see it being a good choice for quick vegetarian eats if you're in the area.

So sad that they're closing at the end of May! They've been open for 27 years, and all my vegan friends love the place. The portions are big, the prices are very reasonable, and the flavors are good. For reference, I went with a party of 7, and the bill came to $100 before tip, with two boxes of leftovers. PSA: It's the kind of vegan place where a lot of the dishes are named after the meat/fish options that they're inspired by (e.g., lobster, seafood, chicken, beef). But I don't think the taste is meaty or fishy at all for most dishes. The one thing that is slightly interesting and closer to the original is the "shrimp": It resists a bit, just like shrimp, and it's striped.

Grasshopper is back! So very happy to be able to enjoy fantastic vegan Chinese food. The new location is inside the 88 market food court. There are many choices however Grasshopper is the best!

i absolutely loved my first grasshopper experience!! i got it delivered and everything was correct, still hot, and super yummy! - the tofu with american broccoli is going to be my new go to. they pack it full! there was so much broccoli and tofu! but i had to order a side of rice separately fyi! - i got a side of lo mein noodles. the noodles were plain but the flavor was not! they were so yummy and are great as leftovers to mix with your own protein and veggies the next day. - the spring rolls, sadly, we're not it. i couldn't eat half of one. was disappointed with that one overall had such an amazing experience and will definitely be ordering delivery from here more often! i wish the spring rolls were better and i wish the entrees would come with rice instead of buying it separately. otherwise it was a 10/10 from me

Really exciting place focused on Northwest Chinese cuisine…read more The signature dish, the hand-pulled beef noodle soup, had a fairly light, but subtle, flavor. The noodles themselves I wish were chewier (got the 'flat' but probably should have gone for 'extra wide'), and perhaps it'd been nice to have some different textures inside the soup (e.g. something crunchy). The scallions in the soup were also too wide, and needed to be sliced more thinly. The beef pancake was quite decent, though the edges didn't have enough beef and the middles had too much beef. The beef was tender, though I might have liked it more flaky. The sauce inside the pancake was somewhat unevenly applied, and a bit too sweet. I wonder if a dipping sauce (maybe a vinegar?) would have helped. The blueberry with mashed yams was fascinating. It was listed under appetizers, and wondered why the dish came out last. But the dish was a bit sweet (naturally!) and so it actually worked as a light modest dessert! The wait staff was spot on after all in putting out the dish last. The stir-fried cabbage dish was beautiful! It was appropriately crunch, yet using good wok hey. The salt level was a bit high, but the spice level was good. Their spice ratings were a bit timid to what I encounter in Szechuan restaurants (the 'regular' level seemed to be more 'mild-regular'). The stir-fried cumin potato was delicious; nicely flavored, nicely charred. Some bits were a bit oily but the cook on the potato was really neat. Will revisit!!!

We've ordered several of their noodle soups and noodle dishes with regular, thick, and wide noodles that have been fine but not great. I think the textures of their noodles across the board have been too soft, not chewy enough. We've tried some of their other dishes, which have been better: my fav is the cold okra appetizer. Also, the potato balls in the beef brisket with potato are a sleeper hit. Unfortunately, the dish was mostly beef and not potato haha unusual gripe. Service is normal, efficient, on the attentive side for a chinese place. Interior is nice and new and clean. After our second try, I'm not super pressed to come back, but if we're in the area, I might try some of their other non-noodle dishes!

Each of the times I remembered were tasty. The ambiance when you arrive is dramatic Chinese music in the background which makes it somewhat difficult to converse with your group. Most recently we arrived with a group of 8 for our 7:30 pm reservation without any issues. All the other tables were full but we noticed the restaurant cleared out after an hour of us being there past the peak hours. They gave us 2 containers of the standalone spicy powder so people could add on as they wanted and the less spice tolerant in our group weren't saddled with the consequences. I tried the following dishes: Lamb & Beef Kebabs - 3 sticks per order I preferred the beef texture and taste over the lamb. BBQ Lamb Ribs - they said this was the only dish that came default spicy but I didn't think it was that spicy. the smoking in the raised wooden container gave it additional flavor. I preferred lamb ribs over the kebabs. Torched Beef - one of the favorites for our table the sauce with it was also super tasty. Big Squid - challenging to cut but they give a lot of pieces and generous portion with a special sauce. Grandma's juicy pork buns - on the small side, topped with black sesame and sauce you can add on the side. it was juicy as advertised. Cucumber salad - refreshing and included peanuts for texture and flavor. Fried tofu - not too memorable but the fried texture was tasty. Bok choy - I enjoyed the sauce spread across this veggie dish. Shiitake & King Oyster Mushroom - these are 2 separate orders but I can't remember which was the skewer and which was on a regular plate. Both were overall tasty. Cauliflower - Another solid veggie option but nothing too memorable if you want to focus mainly on protein. BBQ Bread slice - one of the inauthentic cuisines and it's like French toast Kaoijiu dragon yogurt- I was expecting more dragon fruit flavor so that was a bit disappointing but it still tasted good overall. I am not sure it's worth the $10 dessert price. Overall solid food options and we didn't have any leftovers so it ended up being ~$40-60 per person depending if people also ordered drink/dessert. Worth checking out if you haven't had a chance to before they are gone forever!

Starting with an iPad menu, our ordering experience with our waiter was subpar. We ended up with extra things ordered that weren't part of our initial order. In good news the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was fire and the waiter poured 5 glasses of water for 3 of us. So we could cool down without needing to flag him down. With the only non-Asian waiter in the restaurant, he struggled with basic elements of service. Inattentive. Requests went unmet (lemons for water). We sat for more than 15 mins after asking to box up leftovers and to close our check. This was all a little embarrassing, as we brought my boyfriend's father. After singing praises of the NYC spot, this was a disappointment.

Service was quick, plus you can usually find a spot if you're aiming to grab a bite on a weekday. Only main downside is that it's more or less street parking, but it's not far from the D train. Anyway, I feel like I almost always go for their northeastern sweet and sour pork as it has a solid texture to it: being very juicy and chewy, yet maintaining a nice crispness to each bite - likely from the sticky/glutinous rice flour, which adds a subtle sweetness to it underneath the sweet and tangy sauce around the pork. Would also recommend their deep fried mushrooms, if you're aiming to have a drink with a crunchy snack, as they're quite addictive. We walked into a casual but lively space with a menu built around bold flavors, skewers, and dishes that highlight the style of food from Northeast China. It is the type of place that works well for sharing multiple dishes rather than ordering just one item, and the energy in the room reflects that group-focused approach. The biggest highlight for us was the variety of flavors and the more unique dishes. The skewers were the strongest part of the meal, especially the squid skewer, which had the best balance of seasoning and texture. The pork intestine skewer was also interesting and gave us a chance to try something less common, with a texture that was firm without being chewy. The fish filet was enjoyable with good flavor, though it was not as crispy as expected, which was a minor letdown compared to the stronger dishes. The dishes overall leaned more toward savory and flavorful rather than being focused on heavy spice, allowing the ingredients to come through. Some dishes were a little less consistent. The green beans were more fried than expected, and the texture and seasoning were not as balanced compared to the stronger dishes. Since the menu covers a lot of different styles, some items stood out much more than others, so ordering a variety of dishes is probably the best way to experience the restaurant. The skewers and the more regional specialties were the clear winners, while the sides and vegetable dishes felt more variable. The portions make the restaurant a good value, especially for group dining where you can share several dishes. The pricing feels reasonable considering the amount of food you receive, and the menu has enough variety to make another visit interesting. The service was straightforward and efficient, keeping pace with the busy dining room without feeling rushed. Northeast Eating Club is a good option for exploring Northeastern Chinese cuisine with flavors and dishes that are not as common elsewhere. The skewers are worth coming back for, and the menu offers enough variety to make repeat visits worthwhile, especially when you want something more unique than the usual Chinese takeout options.

So mind you, I was super surprised by this place. Clay pot rice is hard to find to begin with. Good claypot rice is a treasure. This place got my parents as my approval so that bar as high as heck. This is a definite must for those who want authentic Chinese food in Boston. We ordered their chicken with mushroom, two clay pots of frog, a vegetable one, Chinese sausage with bacon, and a preserved duck claypot rice. We had my brother's friend and my husband too so this was for a party of 6. We also ordered their sauteed lettuce, soup dumplings and their house chicken. Their house chicken is to die for. Oh my lord is it good. Their sauteed lettuce was pretty good too. The only one that fell really flat was the soup dumplings. Pretty sure they're frozen ones...and they kept ripping/sticking to the paper under them...on top of being way too close to each other that they all stuck. Um...yeah, hard pass on that next time. But the claypot rice is absolutely delicious. Add the claypot rice soy sauce and you're golden. Only thing that was different and this is more of a personal preference...less ginger? I know ginger is needed but having small planks of them showing up is a bit much. Minced maybe? Even strip to pick out is fine. But happily eating claypot rice only to bite into a piece of ginger is not so nice. The only claypot rice I didn't care much for was the preserved duck...it's not really my thing. My brother ordered it but I prefer normal roast duck to preserved. Tasted kind of weird. Still, lot of good food here. But perhaps stick to their house chicken, sauteed vegetables and their claypot rice. Skip the soup dumpling.
