    coconut chicken noodle soup

Came here for a weekend dinner. Food and service was great--this place deserves more love! This restaurant seems to be family owned and I'm really glad this restaurant exists in Boston since there's not many spots that serve Burmese food. It has a homey mom and pop shop feel to it when you walk in and there are a good number of tables on both sides of the restaurant. They also have small section in the middle of their restaurant that sells some spices and etc as well. We weren't quite sure what to order so our waiter was patient in explaining what was recommended on the menu. We ended up ordering the rainbow noodle and coconut chicken noodle soup. I loved how the rainbow noodle dish had two types of noodle in the dish and also included some mango, cucumber, and onion slices that you mix kinda like a noodle salad. The noodle soup dish was hearty--reminded me of a combination of Asian chicken noodle soup and kao soi but with different flavoring. Overall great experience, come here for some hearty Burmese food!! What we ordered: - rainbow noodle (chicken) - coconut chicken noodle soup

Very friendly service and great vegetarian options. Finding a parking is tough. Mango salad and rainbow noodles are my favorite.

This is such a hidden gem in Allston! I stopped by on a very warm summer day when their A/C for the dining room didn't seem to be working. Hopefully it is fixed now, but I could also see myself coming here in the winter since they have so many noodle soups that would be great for a cold day. The menu is super vegetarian-friendly and it seems like most of their meat options are chicken/fish. 3 of us split a chicken plata ($9.75), pickled tea salad ($12.85), balachaung (small $3.95, regular $7.95), and coconut chicken noodle soup ($14.25). The chicken curry in the chicken plata was fragrant and not too sweet. It came with a good portion of potatoes, carrots, and chicken. While the curry was not very thick, the layers in the plata soaked it up really well! Everyone recommends the pickled tea salad for a good reason. It has an earthy, herby taste with a lot of crunch from the cabbage and peanuts. The pickled tea and tomatoes add a tanginess that makes the salad super refreshing to eat. The balachaung was flavorful on its own, but we tried adding it to the noodles and it really helped the noodles shine. The noodles came in a savory coconut broth that was not too heavy. The prices here are reasonable and the food is delicious and comforting! They even have a small retail shelf in the middle of the dining area where you can pick up pickled tea leaves among other grocery items. I look forward to coming here again.

Very unique, homey comfort food. We came here for dinner on a pretty cold windy day and I was looking for a noodle soup to warm up. Ended up ordering the rainbow noodles - delicious but no broth. Next time I'd get the spicy chicken noodle soup. The best I can describe the flavor is sort of similar to Chinese peanut sauce or sesame noodles, the same nutty flavors. Really loved all the different textures, especially the jiggly chickpea tofu, which was my first time eating. And the three different kinds of noodles! If you love noodles, you should definitely come here. My other favorite thing we ordered was the pickled tea salad. I was envisioning something very sour and acidic but it was so delicious. The flavor is hard to pin down but it's a lot of seeds and crunchiness. A must get and probably very refreshing in the summer. Food came out a little slowly even though we were one of two tables but they're also running busy takeout orders. You order at the front and they being out your food. Remember to bring your trays and dishes back to the counter! PARKING: In a word, tough. Try Hano Street off Cambridge. Don't park in the Walgreens lot, we saw a tow truck circling around.

This might have been my first time eating Burmese food, and it was tasty! Tea salad is a must try - the flavor was mild but the salad was refreshing. Mango salad was refreshing as well with some sweetness. We ordered a TON of other dishes but we ate too quickly so I forgot to take photos. Here's my thoughts: Pea Plata: 10/10 DELICIOUS. This was my favorite appetizer, and we ended up ordering another one. The peas were so tasty with the plata, and the plata was seasoned well. This dish reminded me of roti but the plata is thicker Tea Salad: 8/10 It was tasty, and I'm not sure if you can find this at other places. I appreciate that there's many different textures in the salad, however the portion was smaller than I expected. Maybe I forgot it's an appetizer Mango Salad: 5/10 It's refreshing but seemed like a pretty basic salad with lettuce and mangos Rainbow Noodle: 7/10 There's many types of noodles in this dish, so it was a little confusing what I was eating, but still tasty! Garlic Chicken Noodle: 8/10 The noodles hold a lot of flavor and had good texture Tamarind Juice: 8/10 Strong flavor, reminds me of Chinese sour plum juice. Maybe not for everyone but I enjoyed it. Good balance of tart and sweet

Delightful hole in the wall spot for quality Burmese food! If you have never tried Burmese food, I highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of Thai and Vietnamese flavors. The tea leaf salad is a must try with lots of interesting flavors and textures. While it isn't quite as authentic as a few of ones I've had at other Burmese restaurants, the flavors are still delicious. The plata bread is very good but you only get 1 piece per order which was a bit disappointing. The rainbow noodles were a bit spicy but had a lot of great flavors. The garlic chicken noodle was another favorite of mine - I couldn't get enough of the chewy texture of the noodles. We ended up spending about $60 for the 4 dishes but it was enough to feed 4 people with a moderate appetite. The restaurant is very casual. You order up front and pick a table. Everything is self-serve and the food came out quickly. They also had a few snacks and items you can buy to take home and cook your own Burmese food. Only street parking is available so you'll need to be lucky to find a spot.

TLDR: lovely unique food Not a ton of Burmese restaurants in Boston so come for a unique food. Highlights for me are their unique salads. We did the tea and mango which were phenomenal. Place seems like mom and pop so support local!

Obsessed with the rainbow noodles, mandalay plata and the curry. So good local family owned spot and PACKED WITH FLAVOR

you never have had Burmese before this is a good introduction as prices are approachable and food is tasty. If you in the neighborhood definitely give it a shot. What I had: Yogurt drink- nice and refreshing. Not too thick not too thin. Nice and tart with a sweet finish 4/5 Balachaung- a very savory sour soup. This was yummy 3.5/5 Pumpkin chicken curry- lots of pumpkin, which was tender but not mushy. Chicken was nice and tender too. The curry was tasty but lacked the depth of other curries I've had. Potion size is a bit on the small side. Perfect for lunch, but if it's for dinner you may want to add extra 4/5 Service was prompt and friendly.

    Mango salad! My fav

Amazing food, so flavourfu! it is my go to place on weekends. The food is so fresh and delicious that i almost every-time end up taking more food to go. I love the ambience and the people who work there are really courteous! Must Visit!! everyone go right nowww!

Yum teal leaf salad! My bf and I decided to try this place on a Friday night. The restaurant is not that big but there are a few tables for small groups. You order at the counter and they bring out the food to your table. We decided on the tea leaf salad, golden chicken and noodles and the pumpkin curry with tofu. Everything came out nice and hot and looking delicious! The salad had a nice crunch and tasted very good. I really enjoyed the pumpkin curry because the pumpkin was so soft and creamy and it melted in your mouth! The noodles were also very tasty. We quickly devoured all our food and wished there was more but we were quite content. Will definitely be back!

The coconut chicken noodle soup was heavy with curry and coconut flavor. The broth was thick and noodles were soft. The staff was friendly. You order at the counter and find your own seating. The restaurant is on the smaller side but it wasn't busy on a Sunday night.

The dishes are rich, occasionally greasy, but oh boy--are they packed with flavor! Curry, coconut milk, and spices play starring roles in most of the dishes. The fish soup? Absolutely delicious. It can be a gamble to try fish-based soup, but I trust how most Asians prepare it, so I went for it. No regrets! Here's what we enjoyed: Nanu Pork Dumpling: A sweet, scrumptious twist on a cooked sushi roll Mohinga: Fish-based soup with rice noodles, egg, cilantro, scallions, and fried split chickpeas (so delish!). Some awesome crispy appetizer (see pic) paired with hard-boiled eggs came as a side dish. The couple who own and run this spot are incredibly gracious, patiently walking us through what to expect from each dish. The wife is the head chef, and her passion shows in every bite. I believe they also do food truck events--I noticed their colorful van parked outside. This place is a must-try. Familiar yet different and oh-so-flavorful.

Place just opened when we went so we were quickly sat down as we were the only customer. The seating is limited as there are only 3 tables available. We ordered Burmese Milk tea, Fried chicken (Sweet), Nanu chicken dumplings, stir fried noodles, and Basil Chicken with rice. Fried chicken wings were crispy, sweet and savory. Nanu dumplings were topped with scallions , fried onions and spicy mayo and were delicious. Basil chicken was flavorful with hint of spice from basil. Stir fried was also topped with fried onions and was very flavorful as well. All the food did come with plastic containers so it's easy to take home if you have leftovers. First time trying Burmese milk tea and was good but I think I prefer Thai milk tea better. Overall the place was very good. Food was great, service was good and price was fair. Only downside was that the place is small with limited seating and the place was hot because it's summer and there is no AC. They have fan and we sat in front of it but was not good enough. I would order take out next time. Other than that it's a solid place.

At first glance, you don't see much from Elmwood Ave, but veer to the right and everything opens up on the left, with a parking lot in the back. Ornate statues lead you to the entrance, and once inside you are instantly greeted with bold colors and beautiful art everywhere. I wanted to take the opportunity to try some Cambodian food, so after some quick research, I opted for Beef Lok Lak, which happened to be one of the lunch combos. I chose fried rice and nime chow for my lunch options and settled back to wait for my feast. They bring you a complementary pot of hot tea, which I enjoyed. I believe it was a straightforward unsweetened black tea. Perfect for me. Before long the rangoons arrived. I literally said "wow" when the runner set my plate down. Beautiful golden brown, small bubbles visible all over the outside, promising crispy goodness. And it delivered. What I didn't expect what the slight chewiness to the wrapper that enhanced the experience. The filling was super creamy and delicious, but I prefer my rangoons with scallions as well. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying every bite. Then my lunch came. The beef was perfectly cooked, the dressing tangy and peppery. The nime chow was herby and super fresh as it should be. And the rice had this extra depth of flavor that made me think of tomato paste? A lovely addition the dish. I had a great meal here and the rangoons are definitely worth having! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu!!

For the longest, I thought Apsara on Hope St and this Apsara were the same owners, different locations but I was fooled. They are different, so I came on a Saturday evening with my friend to give this one a try. They have a parking lot but it is small. However, there is lots of street parking around. When we walked in, every table was full and we had to wait about 20-30 minutes to be seated. Since we had time to look at the menu while we waited, we ordered right away: BBQ beef, stir fried thin egg noddle with seafood, and thai garlic chicken wings. While waiting for the food, I had ample time to take in my surroundings, including all the elegant décor around the restaurant including a lot of red and gold colors. Our food came out all together after about 20-30 minutes. The portion sizes were excellent, and all the food was still hot. The beef was cooked perfectly (for me) and cut into manageable strips. It was tender, a hint of sweet, and savory. It came with some sweet pickled shaved radish, cabbage, and carrots with cucumber. This with the meat created a contrast in texture and amplified the sweetness. There was also a clear sauce and that was also really.good. The fried noodles were delicious. They were thin so it seemed like the flavor penetrated inside the noodle. It had a good amount of seafood including big chunks of imitation crab meat, shrimp, and something else I was unfamiliar with. It also had mustard leaves; they weren't bitter, they just had a neutral green leaf flavor (maybe spinach but stronger). The chicken wing order came with about 8 wings, sitting on a bed of cabbage and topped with jalapeno and chili peppers. They were still very hot and crispy, and had a savory and a subtle umelike flavor. I wish the garlic flavor were stronger. I am excited to come back again and try something new on the menu.
