It's been over 3 years since I've reviewed Grateful Bites and it is still a delicious lunch discovery in Winnetka! I am trying to eat healthier these days, and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of delicious salads and hummus on the menu. My husband ordered the Feed Your Head vegetarian white pizza, which was superb. This time the gentleman behind the counter, Matt and Matt, introduced us to hot honey and giardiniera, both made in-house. Giardiniera is an Italian relish or condiment made from a medley of crisp vegetables--typically cauliflower, carrots, celery, and peppers--pickled in vinegar or oil. Those were delicious toppings to enjoy on pizza or a salad accompaniment. Whenever we return to Winnetka, we will be sure to stop here again! read more

This is my favorite pizza place and I'm surprised I did not write a review earlier than today. I think I've tried almost everything here. We always order from here when we are craving pizza. Pizzas 1. Elote: My favorite - Think Mexican street corn but on a pizza. Yes, I can eat the entire pizza myself.. it's that good. 2. Feed your head: My 2nd favorite - The garlic oil and mushrooms are so delicious together along with the goat cheese! 3. Roasted Veggies - My 3rd favorite. So good. Veggies are fresh and you feel good eating pizza with healthy toppings on it. 4. Pepperoni or Sausage pizza: You can't go wrong with either choice or just get both. 5. Pepperoni and hot honey: If you want a little bit of a kick, enjoy this pizza. 6. Margherita: When I want a fancier cheese pizza, this is what I would get. 7. Cheese: So simple but so good 8. Marinara: For those who are lactose or just don't want cheese on a pizza.. this one's for you. The garlic tastes so good on this pizza. Arugula salad is my favorite salad here. I love the pumpkin seeds and cranberries on this salad. The best part of this place is that the people working here are wonderful and you are supporting a local business. Really confused by my first (and last) experience. I placed an order online for 2 pizzas, and the online system told me it'd be a 2-hour wait which I chalked up to a website glitch. But I took it at its word, showed up 1 hour & 45 mins later to pick up my order & it still wasn't done. When I asked if this wait time was typical, the employee said that if I wanted faster service I should have phoned my order in. If that's truly the case, a note on the website would be helpful. The place was empty when I got there, and I'm genuinely confused at why it would take 2 hours to make two very thin 12" wood-fired pizzas that typically take minutes to cook once prepared. Ordered pizza for pickup and was told it would be an hour. Arrived and was sequentially told it would be another 10 min, then 15 min, then another 15 min....clearly no one actually knew. Staff doesn't communicate with staff. Pizza is fine but this is a recurring theme with GB. Save the time and 50% of the cost and order Dominos- we are talking about pizza here. read more

I like the food from this place but their order lead-time is outrageous and their service is not good. I ordered pizza at 4:25pm on a Friday, hoping to pick it up by 5:30. When I got the confirmation, it said my pizza would be ready by 6:45 (this was their "ASAP" option - a full 2.5 hours). I called immediately and asked to pick it up by 5:30, thinking it was a technical error. The guy who answered said "how's 5:35? No problem." I showed up at 5:35 and they didn't even have my order printed out! He said 15 more minutes. So I left and had my mom go get the food. She showed up at 5:50pm and they STILL didn't have my ticket printed. They told my mom it would be ready by 6:45pm. Really disappointing service. read more

I think this place is fine. We had the white bean hummus, two salads and the pizza to share. What was a little bit disappointing about the pizza that we got was that it was chewy even though it was thin crust I like a pizza like a cracker when it's thin crust And this was definitely not it. Services grade everybody's really nice but this is definitely not going to be your best pizza place. It's just seems a bit overpriced for what it was and again I like a crispy thin crust. read more

The customer service has gone downhill in a big way. They are not reliable and act as though it is your issue when their mistakes happen. This had once been our 'go-to' place for pizza after hockey. We took a break for a while because we became a fan of Minos and their tiny pepperoni on their pizza. For years we timed Grateful perfectly and would order online early in the afternoon because we know they get busy, but..... Today, we ordered three pizzas and a hummus for pick up at 6:30. Got there right on time. Told it would be just a minute from the girl behind the counter. Even got a text msg a couple minutes later that the order was ready.... Fast forward to 7:00.... "Hey, any update on my order, it's 1/2 hour late" pause while they check... "sorry, that order was never put in the oven. We will throw it in now, be ready in about 8 minutes" Ok, I get it, sometimes stuff happens, BUT not offering any sort of explanation for me standing here for the last 40 minutes and just a simple "sorry" as I walked out the door left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Super bizarre experience. The pizza is good, just think the bedside manner could have been handled in a way that would have maybe softened the 40 minutes of standing there fielding calls from my hungry kids that their food wasn't ready yet. Maybe offer an app and a drink while I waited, something. Instead I felt like we were inconveniencing them by politely following up on our late order. read more

The Feed Your Head and peach/chorizo/scallion pizza were both really tasty - oddly they were even better cold than fresh! The crust is really delicious and light. The arugula salad was also pretty good - basic but tasty. Prices were really steep though so I don't think we'd go back often. read more

I've been meaning to check out Grateful Bites for a while now. We finally made it and I'm kicking myself for not venturing here sooner. My 9 year old said "out of 5 stars, you should give Grateful Bites 500 stars!" So family friendly, delish and priced appropriately so a family can eat with out breaking the bank, the food here is amazing! We had the white bean hummus, pizza special, cheese pizza and the one with mushrooms and goat cheese... my family of 5 walked out stuffed to the gills because we just wanted to savor every taste over and over! Day I can't remember anymore of quarantine and my household is getting a bit sick of the food in our fridge and freezer. Since it was Friday and the start of the weekend (does that mean anything anymore?) I promised pizza for dinner, which made everyone happy. My husband called in the order. Half cheese/half pepperoni pizza for the kiddos and pepperoni with hot honey pizza for us adults. And caesar salad for all! He was able to give them the credit card over the phone. He biked on over (getting his exercise in before indulging in pizza). The server came right now with our order and put it right in my husband's bike trailer and my husband himself kept a safe 6 ft distance away. The pizzas were the perfect temperature when he arrived home 10 min and we all agreed nothing has ever tasted so good. While I still wish they had a whole wheat crust option (they do have gluten free), I've been a little bit more lax about my diet during quarantine. We demolished it all and agreed we'll order again soon! For those who don't want to do curbside takeout they also do delivery via doordash. read more

MY FAVORITE PIZZA in the Chicago North Shore. And that's saying a lot!!!! I'm in love with this place and everything on the menu. Their elote pizza is incredible, so unique and delicious - I always get questions about it when I post it on my food Instagram. On Tuesdays they have a 2 pizzas for 1 deal that I always try to capitalize on because I seriously cannot get enough. If you're in the area RUN don't walk here. The pizza is magical and cooked in a giant oven you can't miss right when you walk in. As good as it gets!! Friendly and helpful staff hustlin to get delicious food on the table. We started with the white bean hummus with roasted cauliflower. Trust the picture and all the other reviews that recommend getting this app. Hubby and I split the 12 inch elote pizza. We could only eat 3 slices between us but glad to have leftover to nosh on tonight or tomorrow. Elote pizza was good. I discovered it when I had it at Haymarket in Michigan and been feigning for it since then. I like GB's version better. Their crust is good. Pizza came out quick. Will definitely be back again...hopefully with room in our bellies to try the cookie skillet. read more

This is a great little pizza place in the burbs! Order at the counter, and then sit and wait for za. It seems like a lot of the business is takeout, but these super thin crust pizzas are best right away, and the food comes out really quick. Whether you like red sauce or white pizzas, there will be a flavor combo that suits you. They have really good ingredients, and meld them in ingenious ways--try the pepperoni & hot honey. "Feed your head" is also amazing if you're into mushrooms. Oh yeah, and there's a grateful dead theme kind of? Idk but the bathroom had "rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes" written on one of the walls. The music however, did not reflect this theme, and was a little loud. read more

Very nice spot. We walked here with the hopes of sitting down. There are seats, but this is really a takeout place. Pizza was delicious. We had a margherita and added peppery. Such a fantastic choice. Pepperoni were crispy on the outside and the crust was chewy and really good. Caesar salad was decent; romaine was fresh and crispy. We love this place!! By far the best pizza we've found on the north shore. Crust is super light and chewy with nice char on outside. Toppings are delicious and high quality. My favorite is the margheroni and the feed your head (mushroom and goat cheese). Their house made girdeneria is also super tasty. Salads are very fresh with local market produce and some more interesting ingredients. Restaurant itself is a very small space but modern, clean and super friendly staff. We have introduced it to many friends and family members and everyone loves it. We have both dinned in and carried out multiple times and every time the pizza is outstanding. Of course, it's at its best when you eat it there piping hot but still great as takeaway. Glad to have this solid spot near by! Highly recommend!! read more

We used Grateful Bites to cater my mother's 70th birthday party this past weekend and it was unbelievable! Matt and his staff anticipated our every need and made the party an absolute success. They brought the mobile wood fired pizza oven and passed bacon wrapped dates/caprese skewers for apps and then served salmon, sausage and rapini pasta, and arugula salad for plated dinner. The guests all raved about the food! Margarita was the service lead and Dennis manned the open bar. All the staff was fantastic but these two specifically really made everything feel easy and took care of the guests until the bitter end. I popped not this place last week while my daughter was at yoga. On the recommendation of her teacher I went to grab an Arugula salad to go with shaved parmesan cheese, but the winning ingredient was the citrus vinaigrette they paired with the salad. I've got to get that recipe. I will definitely return to dine in next time around. A small joint on Green Bay at Tower Road. And of all things it has Pizza! Maybe seats about 20ish some people. Great pizza shop! On most evenings it's easy to pull up, park and go. I've eaten in a couple times as well. Not a whole lot of seating but if you're lucky enough to get a window seat I'd recommend eating there. The pizza is fantastic. I've had the Margherita and the spicy pepperoni with hot honey. Im a huge fan The food is fresh, simple and tasty. Its a great casual spot for really good food, and the people there are really nice. I love the spot because it really feels like a joint and you can always pretty much get in and get out fairly quickly. Sausage and Cheese pizzas are awesome. My entire family ranks the pizza here as #1 on their list. We always get the feed your head and hot honey pepperoni. The crust is perfectly thin so you can eat a few and feel satisfied not stuffed. Love the wood fire flavor on the crust too. My husband says the pizza is better than any pizza he's had in Italy. I would agree. Grateful Bites is everything you want in a phenomenal restaurant: great atmosphere, quality ingredients, friendly and personal staff, and pizza that is out of this world. A different vibe than the usual "north shore aesthetic", this new business utilizes deep reds, blacks, and browns to create a welcoming and urban setting. You wouldn't think you could find decent pizza in a place like this, but Grateful Bites has changed the game. Crispy sourdough, salty and fresh tomato sauce, and high quality mozzarella with local ingredients create the perfect combination for a pizza that contends as one of my new all time favorites. The dough is so good- crispy on the outside and chewy and full of flavor on the inside. This stuff is addicting. My husband and I will definitely be coming back for this reasonably high priced product that gives a new meaning to how good pizza on the Northshore can be.
