Oh, man, this place is GOOD. We were on a road trip to Montana from Seattle and stayed in Bigfork for a few days. We got morning coffee at Gourmet Galley and asked them if they recommended any other places for similar food. (Maybe not organic, but homemade, fresh, etc.) The people at Galley recommended Grateful Bread which I had seen during Yelp search but what I saw on Yelp hadn't left much of an impression. I was wrong. So very wrong. From the outside it looks like a little hole in the wall, but the inside is pretty bustling and cozy. The staff is WONDERFUL and the displays of baked goods... OH MY. Jackpot. Our first afternoon there, I got the quiche of the day - Chile Relleno (with a little side of salsa/sauce and sour cream and shredded cheddar!) I had to get a cinnamon pull apart to go, and husband got a sandwich (it was the Chubby-something, we forget the exact name, but he said it was GREAT.) Not expecting much, I got a latte also and it was surprisingly decent. We rushed back over the next morning for breakfast before heading home. I got the chile relleno quiche again (almost wanted to get two slices), more coffee, and LOTS of baked goods for the road and to take to family at home. Cinnamon roll (these are my weakness), some chocolate granola bar things, huckleberry cheese danishes, and a big loaf of their hobo bread. I have never had hobo bread before and man did I feel like crying when we finished it up, days later. The hobo bread is possibly the best bread I've ever had. It's soft and chewy - crispy on the outside when you toast it, and has great flavor. GET THE HOBO BREAD if you go here. Seriously. One of the best restaurant meals I've had in a long time. I chose the chili relleno quiche with mulligatawny soup. Both were perfection. Partner had Ham and eggs. The bread and jam were superb. He usually ignores the egg, but I see his plate, like mine. Is clean. Well done, folks. read more

Worst service ever!!! Stopped in for a quick to go order. We were standing waiting for our food. The (our guess was the owner) told the 6 of us to wait outside for our food. Also telling us we aren't real customers after spending $35.00 for some cinnamon rolls. He was very impolite And rude. While i was standing there inside waiting. I over heard him telling a table that they need to sit together. "He was worried about it being a busy breakfast" there was 12 people in the whole place. And last but not least all of the cinnamon rolls had hair in them. read more

Today was my first visit and OH MY GOODNESS!!! It was amazing and I will surely be back! I had the Chicken Fried Steak as my actual meal and it was awesome - so tasty!!! I also had a cup of the Mulligatawny - never heard of it before today but will certainly order it again. It is a curry-based, chicken and spinach soup with a scoop of rice in the middle. Such a comforting dish! When I saw their Ham and Swiss Quiche, I had to have a slice so that and my soup came home for dinner! Great spot to grab coffee and breakfast. I had an Americano and jack on the bean stalk. It was a flour tortilla with a veggie patty under two eggs over easy. I've been getting bread here 20 years, and it's still fantastic. Pecan raisin has always been a favorite. The food is great, too! Jack-and-a-Bean-Stack is my go-to for breakfast. Homemade tortilla, with an amazing black bean cake, topped with an egg, melted cheese, salsa, guava and sour cream. Outstanding. This is a food oasis!! We stopped here on our way up to Glacier National. Kids had a superb margherita pizza, my wife and I had crisp homemade gazpacho and sandwiches. We bought fresh bread, homemade granola and cookies to go. Great vibe and service. read more

We are soooo happy that the Grateful Bread is open this fall and winter! Bigfork desperately needs this delicious bakery and fantastic restaurant. They take great care in using the best, quality ingredients that are fresh and chemical free. That is very important to me as a mom. My daughter loves the Thai Chicken Salad, and I always enjoy the soup or a yummy sandwich! They've recently hired some excellent new staff that do a great job and are very friendly. The atmosphere and the concept is great. While I didn't eat there, the food all looked great at least as far as what I saw other people eating. However, the service was horrible. Awful. I have to believe that the owner of the establishment simply cannot be aware of how rude her front staff is. My wife and I walked in there one morning simply for coffee and were greeted as if we were inconveniences to the girl working at the front. We were technically tourists (even though I have been going to Bigfork and the area for over 35 years) and were treated as inconvenient visitors. Additionally, my family had purchased coffee/catering service for a memorial service being held for a family member in nearby Ferndale. When my wife came to return the equipment that my family had certainly paid handsomely to borrow/rent - no one even bothered to come out to help her carry it back into the store or barely acknowledge her presence at all. They all stood around and stared at her like she was once again just an inconvenient tourist. I am not quite sure if the Grateful Bread's core business excludes serving and being courteous to tourists....but I am quite sure that the very existence of the establishment is heavily dependent upon them - the entire village of Bigfork is. I recommend that people simply take their business up the road and around the corner about 500 yards into the village to another bakery/café and bypass this place until they can figure out the importance of service with a smile and making the customer feel as if they matter instead of an inconvenience. This place is OK if you enjoy SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWW and rude service. The woman who takes the order has the personality of a door stop and would rather talk about her tattoos to the other employees than greet customers with a smile. Really classy. This was my first time to Big Fork and my last. Every where I go up here it seems the personality has been sucked dry. The only thing good was the actual sandwich I ordered. What a nice little place, with surprisingly inventive takes on traditional fare. First of all their chile relleno quiche? What a great idea, delicious and not spicy. The mulligatawny soup, on the other hand, was actually a really well made curry, which let me tell you I did not expect at a cute little bakery like this! I was hoping to be able to say positive things but sadly, I can't. I ordered a simple chicken salad sandwich because I knew it was already a prepared selection. It took quite a long time & I even had to go up & ask when it would be ready as I watched people in the back prep area talking amongst themselves. A couple of weeks ago, while on vacation in Big Fork, my family and I stopped by Grateful Bread for brunch. The food was so good, we ended up returning no less than 3 additional meals during our week-long visit. The breakfasts were perfectly prepared, the salads were fresh and delicious, the burger was on point, and the pizza was great. I'm extremely picky when it comes to my food and it's extremely rare that I would go back to the same restaurant multiple times while on vacation (I usually prefer to try a variety of places). But this place was so consistently good, and the food was so freshly prepared, we kept coming back. The friendly servers, owner who cares, and free WiFi were the 'icing on top'. We'll definitely be back if we're ever visiting the Bigfork, MT area again!! read more

Visiting from California we stopped into this bakery for a snack. Everything we tried was excellent. It tasted fresh and everything is made from scratch. We tried the almond cream cheese danish, pumpkin cookie, gingersnap cookie, pull apart muffin and everything was excellent. If you're driving by you must stop in to this cute bakery!! read more

I enjoy picking up fresh pastries to DIE for when i'm going to a friends house who I want to fatten up. Seriously, their breads and pastries are so rich and delicious that I gain 5 pounds just looking at them! Got the chicken curry wrap... First off took almost 45 minutes to get, saw people coming in and out getting there food after ordering, don't know if they forgot or what. But if your going to go don't get the wrap nothing special thought it was going to be the best thing ever for how long they took but I was utterly disappointed. Ate here several times during our Montana honeymoon vacation. We loved the food the first time and had to keep coming back. Their breakfast sandwiches were excellent. They have a good choice of different kinds of breads to get, and the peasant bread we tried was surprisingly delicious. The breakfast burrito was also great. We picked up breakfast here a few times before heading out to Glacier Park and the food was exactly what we needed to get through a day of hiking, filling and tasty. We tried a couple pastries as well and those were baked perfectly. All their baked goods looked incredible and if our trip had been longer I would have tried them all. The one minor drawback was there was a long wait time a few times we were in there. I think they are rearranging the restaurant and cashier system so that probably has a lot to do with it. We stopped for a quick lunch. I only wish I could eat there a few more times. So many things to try. It was a bit on the pricey side to my dad....8.50 for a sandwich? That being said it was a large sandwich and we were both full after eating. I don't mind paying a bit more for great food and enough food. I topped off my meal with a peanut butter cookie-awesome! THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! They have an amazing staff, food, treats, and more! Everything is homemade and tastes grate! (see what i just did!!) All the drinks are the bomb, but my fav is the smoothie. Don't get me wrong, the coffee is great, but I have never been much of a coffee lover. I really recommend the Hobo bread, with is fresh baked bread baked in a can. The cinnamon rolls will have you ready to buy 100 of them. The cookies are also really good. A great quiet, relaxing place to hangout! read more

3.5 stars. We have been here twice for lunch when visiting Bigfork. There are hits and misses. The pizza is very nice, with a hearty wheat crust generously dusted with cornmeal, crispy and topped with an excellent quality/quantity of cheese. I'd definitely return Grateful Bread in the future, and stick to a large pizza to feed the whole family on the cheap. The sandwiches are ok. The bread kind of falls apart on you, and the meats are your standard grocery deli counter fare. My oriental chicken salad was fine; very crisp and a nice dressing, but I wasn't a fan of the chicken. It had no seasoning and didn't look very appetizing. The atmosphere is not good - it's WAY too dark! They need to add lights! That being said, next time we're in Bigfork, we will not hesitate to return here...for the pizza. read more
