The various staff throughout the many years have always been terrific. The market is a scaled down grocery store offering the same types of groceries as a full sized grocer. Just not as many brands and selections. My go to is their deli counter. I like to order the custom made sandwiches, pick up a bag of chicken tenders, or grab hot soup in the winter. They do make a mean delicious sandwich. Quality bread and fresh fixings. The deli meats are mainly Boar'd Head. They also have fresh made baked potato slices and chicken tenders bagged up and placed in the warmer trays; they are self serve. A bag of potato slices run about $3 and tenders $5-6. In the winter, they offer hot soup as well. The soup is self serve near the self serve coffee station. They even have a Lotto self serve kiosk that sells lottery tickets and scratchers. The parking lot is compact but large enough to maneuver about assuming you're not hauling a boat or any type of trailer. If you are, probably the best bet is to park on the side street.

I said rather than you writing off the loss for a freezer defect you sold bad ice cream to customers and he hung up on me. After 18 years... this is my last visit to Pokerville Market. This is horrible that they let the ice cream defrost and re-freeze and sell it! Who does this!!!

After visiting Calaveras Big Trees State Park on a colder Monday in October, we made a stop at their deli because we remembered eating a sandwich there 10 years ago or so. I needed one more thing from produce so I hurried- another announcement at 7:02 said to "stop shopping- we are closed" I grabbed my last item and went up front. By 7:03, I was already being checked out. And yet the reaction from staff was... unbelievable. There were several employees standing at the front just staring at me--clearly irritated, like I'd personally ruined their evening. It was three minutes past closing. Not 30. Not 15. Three. Then it somehow got worse. They were out of bags (understandable), so I asked if I could use the hand basket to carry my items to my car, which was literally parked right in front of the doors to the store. I was told no, "these baskets cant leave the store"--and that I needed to go outside and get a cart instead. So I had to run out, grab a cart, and come back in... while the entire staff stood there watching me. There must have been 6 or 7 employees glaring at me with dirty looks like I had insulted them personally. The older checker was grumpy and rude, but honestly the whole team contributed to making the experience feel hostile and unwelcoming. I completely understand wanting to close on time. But if ringing someone up at 7:03 feels like a crisis to your staff, that's a management issue--not a customer problem. Also- why not sell reusable bags if you run out of bags so often? I'm able to come in here and buy snacks and all the pricing is pretty good. They do have everything that every Safeway has which is really nice. I remember visiting Fork Lift like 10 years ago and really liking it - it is a sister store of Nugget Market I believe. The inside was massive, clean and well organized. My husband and I wanted to buy one of everything! Their produce section had every fruit and vegetable imaginable - it was also very visually aesthetically pleasing! I loved seeing their bulk spices, nuts, teas and candy options! Their butcher shop and fish section looked very fresh and can we talk about their massive cheese selections!? I was very impressed and they even had my favorite coffee for sale which is hard to find - the Blue Bottle Nola milk cartons. There were two stores not far from each other and they were always packed. I shopped at the smaller one as it was closer to my home. It is literally the only place I ever shopped for food.I cannot imagine shopping anywhere else. When I moved to El Dorado Hills 5 years ago... thank goodness there was a big and beautiful Nugget a mile and half away. My point is all Nugget markets are quite incredible. Nothing compares to them. Excellent quality, in-house prepared food, bakery... TDF, floral, meat department, liquor, and fabulous fresh produce section. Fork Lift is to me like the Nugget markets on steroids! I was astonished at the size of the store and cool inside architectural design. Yes it is hip! Super clean, well stocked in everything. Organized. Quite impressive. And the same great departments as I mentioned above that are available in the Nugget stores are right here too! The chatter is that the Fork Lift offers many discounted prices but honestly, I never see them. Then I heard the lower priced items are strategically placed in and around the store. Who knows. I enjoy taking the drive up the hill to Cameron Park occasionally just to wander around and marvel at this shopping mecca! Easy exit off the freeway and fast to find. Plenty of parking.
