Wish I had snagged some pics but we'll be back so they'll happen next time. Must have been a rough Saturday as they were out of rolls as well as rotisserie chicken for the chicken salad. So we tweaked our order and still scored 3 great sandwiches. 3 sizes of sandwiches based on amount of meat was a new concept. Middle size was perfect (6 ounces, I believe). Don't ask me how but my job brought me to this small town without phone service. Felt like I was out of state or in another decade but a friendly place nonetheless. The office at my job said they were gonna buy us lunch today but there was nowhere that delivered so a local suggested iga had the best burgers in town. That was followed by they're the only burger spot in town too.. what do we have to lose? So before lunch I left early to put in an order for 7 burgers. This place is actually a grocery store with a deli inside, it was news to me but hey.. let's roll with it. It took about 30 mins for my order to be ready but I had the time to spend, with that said I recommend calling in your order in advance. They don't have fries like a regular combo but they do have wedges as well as an assortment of chips available. The workers were very nice from the deli to the register. I bite into my burger and wedges and realized it was in fact the best burgers in town lol. Probably not the best burger of your life but you will not be disappointed especially if its a lunch break and you're hungry. My hats off to this place. I love this market! It is a co-op of the IGA, so it's nice to support family-owned and co-op stores. The store is small, but well stocked. The fresh meats are great quality at affordable prices. Nice selection of in-store breads. Small but efficient deli department. They carry a line of baking mixes by Whistle Stop that I have not seen down here. They have got a lot of fresh food out here especially for being in the middle of nowhere. I stocked up on provisions for my motel here since it was 3 miles away and everything was decently priced except beer. The cheapest six pack of beer is Budweiser. I'll drink bud if I have to but 7.99 for a sixer? OUCH! Good beer is between 9.99 and 13.99 a six pack. If you need food or toilet paper or other random grocery store stuff you can stop here. Just buy you beer before you get this far down 88 or you'll be paying through the nose. read more

This store is an awesome little local market. They have everything you might need. The staff are always very nice and extremely helpful. Need something, just ask they will show you where it is. I went to this store about a month ago and was standing in line when this man was causing a huge stink over his declined card. The cashier was trying to let him know the card was declining and he just was not getting it. He then proceeded to yell and curse at the cashier because of his issue! The man was being so nasty and rude that as soon as he left the other lady cashier was asking my cashier if she was okay. My cashier was so cool and calm even after the incident. A++ service! Great little market! For the area being so obscure this market has a good selection of good quality foods as well as your normal every day fare like cookies and soda and junk and stuff. The staff was polite in helping point me in the right direction when I was looking for certain items. It was nicely organized and the cashier was even super polite. My wife and are part-timers up in this neck of the woods. We don't exactly need this store, as we can always bring up what we need. HOWEVER, we feel so blessed to have such a nice grocery up here on the edge of civilization. Seriously, it is sooo much better than what we'd have any reason to expect, on every variable: quality, variety, price, service. It feels so comfortable, just the right size and layout, far better than anything closer than Jackson, 30 minutes away. We actually don't bring much up mountain because they have about everything we need/want, and we feel we should give them our business to help keep them open. Good job and keep it up. read more

I love this store and am so glad we didn't lose it to the purveyors of Chinese junk as almost happened. The produce section has great variety for a store this size, with some real bargains. There are bargains throughout the store including the meat department. The butcher makes great sausages there, fresh, and today we got jalapeno and cheese, and also smoked gouda brats made with buttermilk. If like me you are always looking for great locally made sausage, look no further. They also had some breakfast sausages with blueberries in them. I go there every time I pass that way, and we eat better at home for days after. read more

We are locals living in Pioneer and we shop here regularly. This store is among a small chain located in the surrounding areas. The staff is wonderful in most cases with the exception of a young, new staff member that gives me plastic and not paper and forgets to ask. This IGA has a great deli. They have a wide choice of sandwiches that have happily fed a house full of guests on many occasions. They have rotisserie chickens, mac-n-cheese, Mexican dishes, breakfast sandwiches, egg dishes, BBQ ribs, tri-tip, and the list goes on. You may want to call ahead of time to find the warm items they have pre-made for that day. When they have left overs they will package them and put them in the open fridge to the left of the deli case. For a smaller store the deli is really quite good with a great variety. In addition, the IGA has many sales and good quality meat in most cases. The first isle on the left side of the store is the deli, meat, cheese, drink fountain, wine, small bags of chips, butter, some frozen items, and some pre-packaged cookies and treats in the middle right across from the deli. The next isle is some grooming products, medications, cookies, snack items, nuts, chips, sanitary products, chips at the end of the isle too. The back of the store has frozen meals, frozen meats, frozen pizzas, frozen veggies and desserts and sometime frozen gluten free items. The next row has cleaning products, paper products, and handyman section. The following rows are coffee, cereals, breads, ethnic foods, soups, pasta/rice, baby foods, diapers, canned everything, juices, dairy on the back walls and then the produce section on the far right. They also have plants, Christmas tress, season items and holiday items, balloons, greeting cards, and cheap plastic toys for kids. I've made numerous requests for this store to carry items and in most cases they start carrying those items. My biggest complaint with this store is the incorrect prices that I've been charged for the staff ringing up thing's I'm buying. For instance, I was charged for the bunch of three leaks when I only bought one. I think it's the staff typing in the codes. My best advice is to keep track of what your buying and the prices then check them as they are ringing you up. Even a sharpie writing on each item could be worth the effort. I once left this store to find I over paid around 13 dollars on a 200 dollar receipt. The most interesting thing is to this day I've never found an under charge for anything which tells me they aren't super motivated in fixing errors in their favor but certainly the other way around. Needless to say, always check your receipt! read more

expensive for Western Family generic brand stuff like way expensive. soaked me for two bucks over retail for a bottle of dextron tranny fluid. glad to get it but when I paid out on it debit card I mistyped my pin and the checker exclaimed in an extremely loud voice "INSUFFICENT FUNDS". Lots of other customers turned to take a good look at the bum. Bad experience all around for a local I avoid and and tell my friends to avoid. I've been going there for 2yrs, I'm disabled & on social security so I DONT have a lot of money to waste. I'm on a strict budget & it's extremely hard paying for Meds, Food, Rent & Utilities. I'd have to say almost EVERY TIME! this store OVERCHARGES ME ON MY RECEIPT!!. They have items on ad or advertised for a sale price but when your checked out at the register, YOUR SCREWED & CHARGED FULL PRICE!! Why should the customer have to go through a huge order to check all there mistakes!?!?!? I'M SICK OF BEING OVERCHARGED!! The current FIRE & loss of POWER was the last straw for me with this store! The day I had lost power for 4 days, I had grocery shopped a little bit in that store. The items went bad from no refrigerator! I finally got my power back on after 4 days & as I explained....I'm on a tight little budget, so I bagged my 5 perishable items with my receipt & went to the market. I wasn't asking for the money back, just the items replaced so I could use them & eat, yoplait yogurt, reesers potato salad, eggs, etc.... Items I KNOW THAT THEY GET CREDIT FROM THE VENDORS WHEN RETURNING THEM!! I asked for Julie the Manager, she wasn't there so I was handed over to JAKE. I tried to explain to him my situation and could he PLEASE HELP ME BEING AS HE GETS CREDIT ANYWAY!! He went upstairs talked to someone, came back & said NO!! It would have been the right thing to do, it shows me they don't care about disabled people on social security & would rather keep overcharging it's local community who pay there wages. I'll NEVER grocery shop again in that store, If only in a emergency calls for it will I give that store a dime of my money!! read more

Never thought I would be writing this. But I am completely disgusted with the management in this store. I was in the store about two nights ago, while browsing the cheese area for something to make for dinner, a customer walked up to the deli case behind me. The customer proceeded to tell the woman working in the deli (black hair with a bunch of tattoos, don't know her name.) that he did not feel good, as he thought he had heat stroke from being at the water all day and was trying to get some quick food to eat. The woman responded to him with "I completely understand, I was super f**ked up yesterday. Super f**ked up." She said it so loud that I could have been 2 aisles over and still heard her. It immediately made me turn around and look at the woman; as she proceeded to give me a hard look. I do not think that is acceptable, so I asked to talk to a manager. The actual manager wasn't there, a young man was. So I told him what she had said and he told me he would see what was going on. Then today I learned that it may have not made it up the chain. So now I'm posting it on Yelp for the world to see! I am completely appalled that their employee just drops the F bomb like its hunky dory and I can't even put in a formal complaint. This isn't the first time I've heard this employee be completely unprofessional and rude either. read more

I was excited to enter the store I used to work as a checker for years when it was known as "Buckhorn Groceries and Goodies' I moved to another state to retire, but the mountains and beautiful trees of Pioneer called me home. I was dismayed to see the store as Payless Market. Oh how those shelves were stacked much too high and it seems that the old shelves are still there minus soap and water. The aisles were too narrow and the store was not clean not to mention the condition of the deli. When this store was under the owners of Richard and Sheila Vinson, we were encouraged to treat our customers with a friendly smile and place their business as the first priority of the then Buckhorn Groceries. An atmosphere of an upcountry store with a heart and always remembered that groceries are sold in many stores; but a friendly staff is why then return as regular customers. We were a great store and enjoyed our work. Please clean up our old store and let's not make it a stacked to the ceiling store. Our price margin was sufficient to run the store at a reasonable profit and now prices are too expensive. read more
