This place came with great reviews and being close to our hotel so we decided to give it a try. They have limited parking in front of their restaurant but we found street parking close by. Our server was Jess and what a standout - attentive, friendly and very helpful. She greeted us as soon as we walked in and told us to sit anywhere we liked. The place was very busy on Memorial Day but the turnaround was fast. My coffee was good and refills came quickly. Staff seemed to work well together and they all seemed to help each other to clear tables and refill drinks. For my breakfast I had the Portuguese Sailor. Jess mentioned that this was very popular and one of her favorites so I went for it. This dish was excellent. They make their chourico in-house and I loved it! Delicious, simple, friendly and oh so reasonable! We'll be back! We enjoyed brunch which consisted of eggs, home fries etc. We tried the regular French toast and it was just ok. Look forward to eating on their outdoor deck in the summer months. read more

Hadn't been to '501' in a few years but will definitely be back soon! I ordered a cheese omelet and asked for a ladle of hollandaise sauce on top, rye toast, homefries and a side of bacon. Hubby ordered a chorico cheese omelet, home fries with raisin toast. I dove in so sorry about the photo! My omelet was done perfectly and the chef definitely knows how to cook eggs, absolutely perfect! Neither of us usually eat homefries and we both ate ours since the potatoes were fried but moist; No additional seasonings or even onions but tasted like fresh potatoes, delish. Our breads were a nice size and perfectly buttered and toasted. Coffee was kind of cool but our friendly waitress Jess, refilled with the hot stuff as soon as I asked. Check was surprisingly reasonable since my side of bacon was an additional $4 and ladle of hollandaise was a little extra too. Total bill including tip was under $35. Ladies room was very decent and the restaurant seemed to have lots of locals. Plenty of seating for single diners or families. Stop in for either breakfast or lunch, place closes at 2pm. I have been going here for a while now and am surprised that I haven't written a review yet so here it is. It is a low key place. It is down to earth and nothing fancy. All the servers are really great. They always are glad to see you and are always ensuring that the food is exactly what you want. The food, both breakfast and lunch, is really great. I love the various eggs Benedict versions that they offer and all of the omelets and other breakfast items. There is something for everyone for certain. My favorite is the eggs Benedict with steak tips...yummy. The sandwiches and burgers for lunch are excellent and the fries are among the best on the island. They have gluten free options as well. They serve alcohol as well and make a hell of a spicy Bloody Mary. On Sundays, they have music as well. Not sure if that is new as we don't go on Sundays often due to the crowds. It is busy. Never going back again. For starters... The owner was clearly intoxicated and was walking around wine in hand talking to just about every table including ours. Although she came off as nice, some comments she made to my husband made us feel very uncomfortable. On top of that, the inside looked like it hasn't been deep cleaned in a decade. The food a disaster, plate was greasy, and everything just felt dirty. I even had bits of food on my plate that doesn't even come with the entree!!!!!! The food was super reasonable and good sized portions. So were the drinks. The staff was really friendly as well. We started with the boneless buffalo wings. Our order was simple-an omelet for me and a chicken salad sandwich, which the menu said contained walnuts and cranberries. Our waitress was very pleasant, friendly and looked quite busy. Anyway, these were not five course dinners, but the time to get anything seemed like they were. After nearly a half hour after we put in our order I could see my plate on the pass-thru (getting cold). Finally, we asked our waitress if she could at least bring my meal so I wouldn't have to eat it at room temperature. Too late, it was! Now the wait for the Chicken salad sandwich. Finally, it arrives. No walnuts or cranberries to be found. When I started to eat my meal, a thought crossed my mind-I couldn't taste much of anything. Was I exhibiting a symptom of Covid? Naw, the omelet was simply tasteless. Things are not cheap here, but there is one saving grace. 501 is a small restaurant that had live music the night we went. Not sure that is normal for a Friday night. If you are looking for an elegant meal this in not the place to go. The restaurant is an upscale diner. The dinner menu included everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner. All were available for dinner. It would be a quick family restaurant if you want to have seafood while your kids have waffles. The dinner we had was fine but hardly something rave about.
