This is great home cooking. I love meat loaf and mashed and this restaurant does it well. Mine was on a Portuguese roll but I unhinged it and covered it with their beef gravy. OMG! We have been a few times and find the food pretty good. Our latest visit was just OK, though. First off, beware that there is a 3% charge for debit/credit cards. One way or another restaurants have been forced to raise prices and CC companies charge restaurants a lot, so we get it. there are daily specials that are very reasonable. Richard got the similar but w/bacon instead of sausage and wheat toast. Price was right! Coffee served to us right away and it was excellent. Nice big mugs. Restaurant and bathrooms clean and tidy. I thought the food was served to patrons out of order but we had coffee to sip on while we waited. When the food came out I noted my bagel burned black and toasted instead of grilled. Waitress noted via her notepad I had ordered grilled. These mistakes happen. So she took it away and I ate a great, perfectly cooked omelet and home fries (well seasoned but not overly so). When halfway through my meal, out came my grilled bagel. With black and dark brown burned parts where it hit the grill. Waitress knew w/o my saying anything. She offered to send it back but I just ate around the truly burned black bits. We were a bit pressed for time and by now I doubted I'd ever get a normally grilled bagel and just let it go. There was a woman the next table over (a senior like us) who was using her table as a home office, having completed her meal as we got there, which was fine until she began playing loud videos on her phone. Very rude, took up a table patrons could use. I feel for restaurants, this is not Starbucks or Panera. Restaurant was pretty full so she should have shoved off when she was done. I heard from a friend at work that Family Ties always had the very best fish and chips. So when I heard that they were doing fish and chips takeout Friday's during Lent I had to give them a try. My friend was not lying! The fish was flaky and delicious. Perfectly breaded and cooked to perfection. The hand cut fries were also a very nice touch and added even more yumminess to this amazing dish. Their chowder was creamy and loaded with clams. We had a gift card to this restaurant so we went. I had never heard of it before but since we got the gift card we went. And wow, I'm so sad I just learned about this restaurant. First time for me but my husband has been here before with other family members. Great place! Prompt friendly service (our server was Mark). We ordered eggs Benedict (Benedict Arnold for him and Portuguese Benedict for me). Both were wonderful! The chourico on mine was a marinated piece of meat, not the usual cut up link. It was tender, flavorful but not too spicy. Husband's hash was restaurant made, tender but not too salty. We ate every bite! Coffee refills were plentiful. After a difficult time deciding where we should go for dinner we decided on Family Ties. I think we may have come here for breakfast or something years ago just haven't thought to come back. The hostess was friendly to the two older women in front of us who were seated but then she sighed and wasn't as friendly with us when it was our turn. We were seated at a booth and the waitress we had was super friendly. We took note of the regulars, the waitress was kind to them also and remembered their usuals. I was visiting My friends in the area and we went to Family Ties for breakfast. I was excited to try the eggnog French toast. I ordered a side of extra crispy bacon and my friend ordered the same my other friend ordered the chourico and cheese omelet. Our French toast arrived on what could only be called a kiddie plate and side of bacon was rubbery. My other friends plate was full of food and potatoes and toast. Our French toast was tasty by the bread was a cheap sandwich bread and we were given two small pieces. We all had coffee and our bill with tip was 45$. Definitely not a value for breakfast! Our latest trip was a little irritating. As we were walking in, we held the door to let a young couple with a baby in. The couple walk in and move to the side, clearly they were letting us go ahead as we were there first. Hostess asked how many to the other couple, they don't answer, so we say 2. My honest opinion? Excellent for breakfast/brunch. Awful for dinner. 50/50 The place is cramped + the 2 times I've been there pretty busy--but not awful--you won't get seated right away but no more than a 15 minute wait. The first time we decided to get take out for dinner, food was bland + cold. We actually swore to never go back. But we heard the breakfast was pretty decent so we gave it another go. On our second try for brunch we were seated and our server was nice, the food was super tasty! Portion sizes are pretty good and the prices are not bad. I had the eggs and hash with home fries... mmm mmm goodness. Our coffee was never low, we got exactly what we ordered and overall it was a really good experience. The parking lot is close by, small and gravel but fine. If you want to eat first thing in the morning... not at night, this is your kinda place. read more

Went here for dinner. Ordered the Kabobs, which was on special. It came with three varieties: veggie, chicken, and streak over a bed of rice. When it came, it looked pretty disheartening. Everything was grilled, however nothing looked very appetizing. Let's start with the veggies, which were old and pretty soggy. The Chickens were cooked well but had no flavor at all. I really like this place...my only complaints are 1:) the inconsistency of the servers telling us (a couple) we cannot sit at a booth because they like to save them for 4 people, then watching almost every booth fill with parties of 2, and 2:) the handicapped parking is illegal. It needs to be marked legally, with a sign, or at least repaint it so people can see! and 3:) they should probably nail the bar hightops to the floor. How frustrating to go and find 2 people pulled 2 tables together because they are too fat to sit at one, or the same group of 10 people who come in every week and take 4 hightops!! It's so rude. I ordered two medium poached eggs...MICROWAVE? Are you kidding? Recently I have found other restaurants in the Fall River/Somerset/Swansea area cooking a poached egg in the same way to my great disappointment. Family Ties has, for years, been one of my favorite places to venture to for a quick, delicious, reasonably priced breakfast. Note: if you have been out of the area for a few years now, and were a fan, and are returning, this place used to be in the plaza where the old Grand Central Market used to be (now CVS), and has moved into the builiding that was once Christopher's Resturant on Main Rd. The menu offers the typical breakfast fare: muffins, eggs, a la carte, pancakes, Belgian waffles, omelets, etc. They also have daily specials, and some interesting twists on a classic eggs Benedict. For example, they have what is called the "Southern Benedict" which has biscuits in place of the english muffins, sausage, and gravy. I always get the "Full House" which is one of the combination breakfast dishes, and the largest I may add. It consists of: two silver dollar pancakes, two eggs any style, a sausage patty, two pieces of toast, home fries,and a side of either bacon or sausage. All for $6.99, which is not bad at all. And the home fries are out of this world. Crispy, salty, full of flavor. They also have a nice little kid's menu. It does get really crowded in the morning, and I have seen a few reviews where some people have had a hard time with waitstaff or management accomodating them, but this has never been a problem for me when I go alone or with my family. The waitstaff is always attentive and courteous, so once again, I have personally not had any problems there. Now the only reason why I don't give this place 5 stars is simply because I have heard not only from fellow yelp reviewers but from friends as well that the dinner here is not all that great. I have never gone here for dinner, and to be honest, I prefer going out to eat for breakfast than dinner to begin with. But if it was still just a breakfast/lunch joint, it would easily be 5 stars. read more

The baked stuffed quahog is the best I've ever had. 2nd time getting the baked cod and wouldn't order anything else since I like it so much. Haven't had a trip here where j have been disappointed. They also have some different beer concoctions that are pretty good! **UPDATE*** about a month ago I finally moved off my beloved cod and tried the lobster mac n cheese. I was blown away. there was probably enough lobster meat by market price to cover the dish. I had atleast 2 full claws in there and the mac n cheese is amazing even without it.
