We chatted with a park ranger in Yosemite who recommended this bakery so we made sure to visit this gem from our usual spot at the other popular bakery. It was easy to order online ahead of time while we were driving south on the 395. Our favorites were the Mt Tom sandwich, assorted cookies. and the croissants -- we got a butter, ham and cheese, and spinach and cheese. The ham and cheese croissant was microwaved a couple of days later and the layers were still crispy! I am in love! I also wanted to point out how nice the service was. Definitely made our experience a lot more enjoyable. They also respect distancing and mask recommendations. A huge plus for an anxious person like me. Great Basin is a superb bakery, definitely not to be missed! Everything is baked fresh each morning, much of which is sold out by early afternoon if you don't get there before noon. The sourdough bread, bagels, muffins, cookies, croissants, baguettes, you name it, are all baked to perfection. The sandwiches are delicious and featured on their freshly baked bread. I've had the B.L.A.T - Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, and Tomato... yum! Breakfast is equally tasty, I've enjoyed the buttery and very flakey croissants, outrageously good cinnamon rolls, and superb bagels. Make sure to try the Guatemala medium roast coffee, it's really good! The beans are brought in by another business in town who roasts them locally and makes regular deliveries to the bakery. Talk about fresh! There's also a dark roast coffee although I forget the origin. Very full flavored and quite satisfying. The bakery staff is absolutely a delight, super friendly and really helpful. This is the spot. The people are friendly. They don't overcharge you for anything. Their fresh cookies are amazing. Like truly delicious. Their garlic sourdough is unreal, by far some of the best I've ever had. The only bad thing about this spot is that they're not closer to me so I can get more of that sourdough. read more

Roast beef sandwich - tender meat, nice olive? Spread. Would order again. Muffaletta - it was really good, but liked the roast beef more. Wouldn't order again. Turkey sandwich - pretty good, but wouldn't order again. Chocolate ganache croissant - I would eat this every day. The pastry itself is not the best I've had (not the buttery flaky with soft interior, it's just overall soft and less delicate). The filling makes it extraordinary. Every time we come to Bishop to visit family we have to stop at Great Basin bakery. We always go for the pizza bagel. It's a must try. They are always fantastic. My husband who's is from NY is a bagel snob and he loves this bagel. This is great heated and with some cream cheese. We also tried the cinnamon rolls and blueberry streusel muffins. Excellent. They are opening a second location where the old Bishop Sears was located. A must try. Schatz Bakery has the name, but Great Basin has the goods. read more

We came in to get us some breakfast and we left with several bags of bread .. the staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we knew what was day old bread and what was freshly baked.. the ambience is super chill and relaxed.. definitely worth a visit read more

I am writing this review after going to the Great Basin Bakery and reading some of the reviews. It seems I've had the same experience as others. We walked in and was excited to see all the home made goodies. After reading a review from 2018, there are still no prices on the menu board and no receipts are given. They forgot something in my order so I'm not sure I paid for it or not. I added up what I could see the prices on the online menu I think he charged me for 2 oatmeal cookies that I never got. I have no receipt to show. I started ordering and expected the guy to pick the cookies as I was ordering, but he didn't move from the cash register. So he forgot the order I guess when he went to get the cookies. He seemed irritated I had to ask for prices of everything but there's no prices anywhere. Its a cute place. But I have to agree with others the customer service is lacking. So if you read this. I got 1 bag of mud Sierra, 1 bag of cowgirl, 2 lemon cookies and 2 peanut butter cookies. Our breakfast stop on our way home from June Lake, WOW was this a great find! We ordered the cinnamon rolls, jalapeño bagel breakfast sandwich and a croissant breakfast sandwich with everything on it. The breads were so soft. Great flavors and very filling. I'm in heaven. Don't waste your time going to that kitschy place (schats). This bakery is by far the best bakery I've been too. Let me start off with their scrumptious array of breads. We stopped by on day one (Thursday) of our camping trip. We wanted to get some bread for quick sandwiches. We were lucky enough to show up on Asiago bread day. What a treat! Every day should be Asiago bread day . We ate the bread like a pack of hungry raccoons at our camp site. It's not just the breads, they have soups. Ohhhhh the soups.-not something your craze in the heat of summer BUT you have got to try the soup of the day. We had mushroom Brie and roasted bell pepper and Asiago soup. Both were delicious, I had a spinach and artichoke croissant to top off my glutinous eating spree. The good/bad-bad they are so damn far away but good because I could easily gain 30 lbs eating here every day. You won't be disappointed stopping by here on your way through Bishop. Trust me, stock up on the breads and soups (I know a bit crazy but worth it) on your way thru this quaint town. read more

We got one sandwich, one cookie, one baguette, and one jar of honey for just under $30, and it wasn't anything special. The service was not particularly helpful. On my way up to Mammoth sometimes I stay in Bishop the night before to save driving time. Apparently this one pace has been around for 13 years. I wish someone would have given me the 411 earlier. They have all sorts of in house fresh made breads, pastries, bagels and cookies. I had the breakfast Sammy on a croissant which was great. It's packed with locals which is always a good sign. Stopped here for a quick breakfast on our way home from Mammoth. Got there short line was going to get a egg sandwich but we didn't want to wait instead I got a lemon scone. Holy smokes it was delicious so tender , soft just the right amount of lemon flavor and glaze it was not crumbly at all . I am sure heated with Devon cream it would be amazing ! Hubby got a cranberry bagel he said was delicious. We also got three cookies to try : lemon butter , molasses spice and PB ! So glad we stopped we will be back . We love this place! We work across the street and come here almost every day. The food is healthy and delicious (try the spinach salad or a sandwich!) or a guilty pleasure, (the molasses or lemon cookies are to die for!), depending on your mood. My wife and i have been eating at Jack's restaurant in Bishop for years but the last couple times we stopped in the quality has gone down. We needed a new place to eat on our way to Convict lake. We stopped in and glad we did. Spinach and feta croissants are excellent. I also had the egg and cheese croissant. there are so many other good things on the menu. Place is small with limited seating. There is plenty of parking around the corner if the street is full. Prices are reasonable. read more

Man, everything about this place was great. The night before, I did an online order for a bagel with lox/cream cheese for breakfast and a Mt Tom for later in the day while on a backpacking trip. I asked to pick up at 7:30. I showed up at 7:30, gave them my name and they literally were bagging my food at that exact moment. The coffee was excellent. That Mt Tom was amazing after a tough 3 hours of hiking. A great pick me up for the rest of the day hiking until I could set up camp. I will return for sure! read more
