I'd really like to like this place. Food was okay and did not match the price. It is overpriced for what it is. What I don't get is that they charge you a credit card fee right away, assuming you'll pay by card, and on top of that there's a 3% charge for using a credit card. I don't get it. The server got my order wrong and gave me an attitude when I mentioned and asked for the correct order. She was so intense. She also overcharged me by putting a tip on my card when the total tip went to my partner's card. Getting double tipped. Now I have to be bothered to dispute this. On our way to Lake Tahoe, we were starving and decided to make a pit stop at this place to eat. BAD IDEA! Firstly, the restaurant was filthy. The tables were dirty and there were crumbs everywhere. The floor looked as though it hadn't been washed in days; there were also a TON of health code violations. Secondly, the staff was extremely rude. No one that we encountered was personable. If you asked for something, it was like you were inconveniencing them. Thirdly, the food was beyond repulsive. Nothing was fresh and I know this because we had a clear view of the kitchen and the cooking staff. From what I could see, there was pre-made food (fajitas, tamales, taquitos) and every single dish would be reheated. The microwaves were used in over-drive. Lastly, we had to ask for our check several times. After waiting for 15 minutes for the check, I finally approached the man running the place. He basically ignored me and shooed his hand at me. California to Nevada I have a 7 hour drive... looking for some good food on our way home 2 hours left to set the mood. Came on a Sunday for lunch with a group of friends. The service here is amazing - our server started us off with chips and 6 types of delicious salsa! They had mild, medium, green, avocado, and spicy chipotle salsas to satisfy a range of patrons and their spiciness levels. Stopped by this place before heading home. It looked really empty but the sign said open. We parked in back and walked through the door. It felt strange walking through the office area, storage and kitchen but the cooks waived us through to the tables. We started with some chips and salsa. The various salsas were amazing. Try the chipotle and the creamy green salsa. Yum! I was torn between the Huevos rancheros and the Chile Colorado omelette but I chose the rancheros with beans as my side. It was good but I'm still wondering how there chile Colorado was. Hubby got the chorizo and egg plate with half hashbrowns, half beans as his side. Also good. It was super cheap! $13 each! Average at best. If you enter from the back parking lot, you have to walk through the kitchen. When I entered, I would never have known that, luckily one of the staff members waved me through. When I entered the dining room, I didn't really know what to do. I asked if I wait or seat myself and then the waitress told me to not just sit anywhere so I walked to the front door to wait. I waited there for about 5 minutes before (presumably) the manager waved at me from the back of the dining room and he had the mannerism that said "what???" so I asked if I am supposed to sit anywhere and he said "yes" as if I should have known. So I sat myself and he came up to me in a huff and took my drink order. I ordered a California Burrito when he brought my water and he said "ok" but acted annoyed, as if his staff weren't doing their jobs. My order came out pretty quickly and the food was meh. The service took forever and they never received my soda. The food and drinks were not cheap. They charge for second chips and salsa. It was nice to get one free but it was not very tasty. My shrimp salad was described as "over greens" which usually means something other than shredded iceberg but in this case it did not. It was expensive and lackluster. This place is like meat and cheese quesadillas for like $10 (my partner got this). They took so long to bring the check that we had to walk up and ask for it. In the area on business & decided to stop in! It's a very quaint place, a little beat up. However, I think the town is just old as well as all of the buildings. The food was good, I've never ordered a Chile Relleno before so I have nothing to compare it to. My husband attempted to order carne asada fries but the owner had never heard of them before so it was a bit odd trying to explain it's only meat and cheese with nothing else. They have a counter where they fresh squeeze oranges for juice and I thought that was a nice touch. Overall, it was good but I probably wouldn't return. Thanks for the experience though! read more

When it comes to housing, California is: overpriced, overrated, and well, all used up. When it comes to Mexican food, well, it's the complete opposite. Quality is great, portions are generous, prices are affordable. You can get a side of serranos (Capsicum annuum) that are gringo-blastin' hot. I have a...uh..."hot tooth", and I was mighty impressed by the roasted serranos here. My whole face was sweating. I have not felt like that since I met my high school girlfriend's religious, conservative father. I got "carne asada" which was pretty much flank steak, refried beans, and scrambled eggs served with a side of tortillas and three canisters of house-made salsas. Stumbled upon this place looking for a Mexican breakfast. Parked in a lot behind the business. I saw a sign that said the restaurant was open and entrance. Upon opening the rear door I immediately thought I was walking into the kitchen which I was. I saw an employee and asked if I came in the wrong door and he pointed us towards the front. Either way we made a trip through the kitchen. After perusing the menu I noticed that some of the typical Mexican breakfast items were listed Huevos Ranchero, Machaca, and menudo on the weekends. The descriptions of the items threw me off a bit as they seemed like variations of what I know as the typical items. Either way I ordered Chorizo and eggs with the country potatoes. It arrived and I could smell the fresh Serrano peppers that was sauteed into the mixture. It provide the nice sweet heat level along with great flavor. The chorizo was perfect and not a bit greasy. The country potato were slightly undercooked and hard but still great with the diced onions and bell peppers accompanying the mixture. My wife had the chile verde omelet which is her to-go to item. The chile verde was more of a shredded pork with green chile verde sauce. The overall taste was decent with a slight hint of sweetness. No spiciness or heat which I would have loved to experience. She asked for whole beans rather than refried beans as her side. The whole beans were a lighter almost white bean. Same flavor profile as pinto beans but much lighter in flavor. The waitress provided us with 4 different salsa served in syrup style decanters. I found the best salsa was red chilis with a decent amount of heat but a great flavor profile. The second red salsa was a "smokey" charred pepper flavor. The green salsa was a jalapeno based flavor with a little heat. The last salsa was a avocado crema style salsa.
