I walked into the Great Clips at Brookside Plaza for a simple trim--just enough to clean up the ends and maintain my curly hair's length. I walked out looking like Richard Marx in 1986. Despite repeatedly stressing that my curls shrink significantly when dry, the stylist hacked off far more than discussed, all while assuring me I'd "love it." Spoiler: I don't. My hair is now uneven, barely three inches long in places, and refuses to curl properly. One side is noticeably shorter than the other, like some twisted art project gone wrong. Let me start by saying how much I love Silvia, who has cut my hair several times, and is consistently my favorite! Joe and Tracy are also good, but Silvia is quick and knows to thin out my hair (I have very thick Asian hair) without me having to ask. When I can help it, I wait for Silvia. This Great Clips location in Brookside Plaza has become my primary stop for a haircut, and my partner has gotten nice trims several times as well. I use the Great Clips app on Android to check in, so I almost never have to wait. The store is conveniently located in the middle of the plaza, and there's PLENTY of parking - literally 5x more parking than probably necessary in that plaza. Handicap accessible parking nearby, with several access ramps. On Saturday and Sunday the whole plaza can get really crowded. During the weekdays around 12 noon, it can also get busy from the deli and Stella's traffic. You never have to park too far, though, because of how big the lot is - just be careful, sometimes folks drive a little too fast in the big lot. This Great Clips is a copy-and-paste of just about every other Great Clips location I've gone to, right down to the decorations and even the smell. Man, I love the smell of hair products, and this place doesn't disappoint. The staff keeps the place pretty clean. The waiting area is generally pretty nice, but can get a little crowded if you go during peak hours (though I'll usually check in on the app and wait in my car until I'm next if there's a crowd). Everyone is reasonably courteous, and seems to know their trade well (Sylvia is my favorite, and Joe & Tracy are good too). I'm often in and out in just 10 ~ 15 minutes. Prices are very good. Bear in mind, I have a pretty simple hairstyle, so your mileage may vary if you have a more complicated hairstyle. The Great Clips in Brookside Plaza is my #1 spot to get a hair cut, at the moment. FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF PREVIOUS REVIEWS. NO to JOE. I took my two boys in to get haircuts today and I wish I had read the reviews on Yelp prior to visiting. I also hope the shop's management takes these reviews into account. Tracey cut one boy's hair and Joe cut the other. Tracey was attentive and respectful. Joe's haircut was uneven and was reluctant to listen and rough when given feedback. It started as I was giving feedback on the uneven haircut while my son was still seated. He took off the cape as I was still talking, spreading the cut hair all over my clothes. saying "You're all set." As I continued to give him feedback, he argued every piece and walked away mid-conversation. Unbelievable. Poor haircut and then rude to top it off. Tracey tried to help by having my older son sit and she made a few adjustments to salvage the situation. Worst experience I've ever had getting my haircut. The woman cutting my hair was rude and rough. She barely listened to how I wanted my hair cut, she was trying to start before I was even done talking. There were two people ahead of me and both were waiting for the other woman to cut their hair. Once my cut was started, someone walked in and my hair dresser was rude to them. They also were waiting for the other woman. This woman cut my hair in under 10 minutes, never asked how do I think it looks, She just finished. She started blow drying the hair off me and blew the hair dryer directly into my ear, high pressure forced air into my ear, my inner ear still hurts. I've never in my life had any one do that with the hair dryer. She is the worst. I should have read these reviews first. It would seem the owner does not care or is somehow connected to this woman. My mother who is handicapped, 95 and has a difficult time walking and getting around went with me to the great clips in Deerfield, Il. I called earlier in the week to make sure Great Clips in Deerfield does cuts, shampoos and hot curling iron styling for my mom. She told me yes they do all those services. I also asked the prices. This individual who spoke to me said it was best to get there around 3:00 pm on Saturday when 3 stylists would be present. I did get to the shop at 5:00 pm later than I had planned. I told the person who answered the phone that we were coming on Saturday. It is the only day I can take off from work. I live in the city so I made a special trip to this store to get my mom's hair done. I was greeted by Jackie who said they only did cuts today no styling and no shampoos. There was one gentleman getting his hair cut and another young man waiting with his mother. My mom has thin hair it would have been easy and fast cutting her hair. When I told Jackie I had called earlier in the week so why didn't the person tell me they only were going to do cuts on Saturday. She gave me a very sarcastic, smirky smile and said she had worked 12 hours yesterday and she would be the one I would have spoken to. She just kept arguing with me no apology and no sympathy for our situation. She smiled amd said she was the manager it was she who I would have spoken to. I said ok just cut my Mother's hair than. I must admit I was frustrated. I sat down next to my mom and Jackie got up went to the door and opened it and said "get out of here". When I asked why, she answered "I'm calling the police if you don't leave". Please explain to me what I did yes I was upset but I hardly think a daughter with her 95 handicapped mother was a threat. A customer walked out and saw my mom and I leaving in our car and said that was the rudest behavior he'd ever seen. He said I'm never going back there after seeing how that woman treated you and your mom. It was a traumatic awful experience. I will be writing this on Yelp and Facebook. Okay before I start I'd like to explain I haven't been here in about a year. From my memory joe and the other lady I believe her name was Maria were fantastic and they both had cut my hair no problems and I usually love the cut. Yesterday during my visit I didn't recognize any of the workers and getting taken by this women who clearly maybe is still in barber school or one day just woke up and decided to cut hair. I've never had gotten such a rushed and uneven haircut. Kind of ridiculous if u ask me. If u are in barber school or don't know how to cut hair there's a place called Betty and nicks, it's full of people learning to cut hair and hair cuts are 5$. That's where this lady belongs. Located convenient to me and they rock the coupon mailers. Good coupon mailers keep my business here because the haircuts are half price. The haircut quality fluctuates depending on who you have cut. Tip - The girl closest to the register on the right does pretty good work. Addtl Tip - If you do not have a coupon, there are two options - 1) they accept all competitor coupons 2) Jewel register receipts have applicable deal sometimes (there is a Jewel less than a mile from this location but can't pick what deal you get on the back of your receipt) They do have mobile app for appt/wait option if you wish to plan ahead. read more

I would post 0 stars if I could. Joe (who, it seems, has been specifically complained about at least twice in the last year) refused to cut my hair because I'm female. He insisted that I would probably prefer to wait to have my hair cut by one of the "ladies" he was working with and when I said I really didn't care he said that "he doesn't cut women's hair very well" and that I'd be better off waiting. When a male walked in after me (having checked in online after I did the exact same thing) he was served by Joe immediately. I have already called the corporate office and greatly look forward to speaking to the owner of this sub par establishment. I really wanted to give 1 star after my last haircut, but overall, it's just a complete russian roulette with how your haircut will go. Here's the percentages in case you've never been. 25% of the time - Great haircut, somebody actually is paying attention to what their doing and don't screw up for 10 mins. 50% of the time - average - looks the same as when you came in, but shorter. 25% of the time - horrible , looks like a blind monkey took a dull cutlass and started slicing and hacking your head. So I thought the last time (yes it's probably the last time I"ll go) I had hit the 25% good haircut- the lady was friendly and attentive and pretty cute too. So I told her "a little off the top and sides" I guess what she heard was "cut the front way too short and give me a half mullet and half buzz cut on the back" Now, to be fair I have a cowlick which makes the back of my hair pull to one side on the back, so it's not going to stay straight unless you cut it higher on one side. But I clearly explained this to the lady and so while it looked straight as I walked out of there, about 5 mins later it was so crooked my eyes crossed just looking at it. I had to go back a few days later and another lady (grudgingly and with attitude) fixed my horrible haircut for no charge. (hence the 3 stars instead of 1) Anyway, you should know what type of chances you're taking with Great Clips just so theres no surprises. read more

I am giving this place 2 stars after my visit last week. I have been coming into this location for well over 10 years without any issues. Walk-ins i thought were always welcome. Now that is not the case anymore. I walked in, checked in and thought it would be an easy start to the day. Wrong. I was told I had a 40 minute wait and two people were immediately seated in empty chairs after i arrived to an almost barely empty store. Only two barbers were working that day. I was nervous to come to Great Clips because I've heard so many horror stories. However I took a chance and ended up being pleased with my haircut. The women next to the register on the right was polite and efficient. I noticed her moving fast during my haircut but she wasn't rushing. For $15 I can't complain, the stylist did exactly what I wanted and it didn't cost me $60. I could not give 5 stars because while I was waiting I noticed the product shelves and waiting room was not clean. The product had dust all over it and was unorganized. Sometimes you get a good cut. Recently they ignored the checkin online and took a full family prior and made us wait after telling us we were next. One thing is pretty consistent...as stated in another review...very cold staff. Owner (male-hairdresser) is always grumpy and definitely spooked my young daughter. No awareness on dealing with kids. I'm sure there are some good stylists. But a friend and I both went here with our girlfriends, and received haircuts that were rushed, lopsided, and unsatisfactory. This was especially disappointing because we were the only ones in there, and all it would've took is a little more time and effort. All four of us agreed that the haircuts were so bad we could not pay for them. It looked like a drunk person's first haircut. We nicely explained the situation and they threatened to call the cops for theft of services, when really this was a disservice. Astounded by the threat of police, we paid and left. IF I COULD GIVE THIS MINUS STARS, I WOULD. A terrible place, the socalled " stylist" could not cut hair, especially curly women's hair with a scissors. I have short curly hair that only needed a trim... I asked specifically if she could handle very curly hair and was told yes. NO Way! She had no idea of how to cut the hair in sections as you should, no idea how to follow the natural curl, parts, colics and so on. I ended up nearly bald in spots due to her cutting far too much off at my crown (where it was fine) and then she left it too long all over, but cut the side burns so short that I look like an elf who got burnt in a fire or something. A disaster. DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU EXPECT ANY KIND OF PROFESSIONAL...they seem ok for cutting guys hair with a buzz razor, but don't go there as a woman expecting any sort of decent haircut.
