First of all, the receptionist, shampoo ladies, and all of the hairdressers and staff are very welcoming, friendly, and great at their jobs. The salon itself is beautiful, quiet, and very clean. And D'Angelo---the owner of Evoke and my hairdresser---is particularly wonderful! D'Angelo is a true artist whose medium is gorgeous hair and color. He gives me (and every customer) special attention, listening to what I want, making suggestions, and then providing an outstanding haircut every time. We always go for haircuts and they are great! I wanted highlights (I'm a natural medium brown) so i went to get caramel/blonde highlights. Once I got home the color was not near my roots and looked like it had already grown out about a 1/4 inch. We called and went back today and got it touched up but now it is very chunky/stripey, and way too bright so not satisfied at all. Recently had a mani pedi purchased from Groupon. Cuticles were bothering me a bit for a week, one in particular. I took polish off after a week, and noticed index finger very yellowed. It got worse as the week went on . Finally after second week, my finger was extremely swollen and friends said I should see a Dr. So I did and he said I had an infection at the nail bed that traveled to the pad of my finger. Put me on antibiotics and told me if it got worse , go to ER. Well, I ended up in ER over the weekend and they had to cut into me to drain , and gave me more antibiotics. I took my daughter here based on someone's recommendation for a haircut and I came out with a really bad hair cut for her. It wasn't so much the quality of the cut. The person that gave the haircut did a clean job. The problem was the actual cut. They gave my daughter a boy style cut where her hair was too short and she looked like a boy now because of the cut. I think this is a decent place... perhaps not the best for little kids. Specially not for little girls. read more

I love this new salon. The place is beautiful and the staff are great. Atorena has been my stylist for 8 years. I go here on a monthly basis. The bald guy at reception and who does hair never greets me when I walk through the door. Today, I walked in (to see Nora for threading, which is the only reason I go there), and this guy, who is doing someone's hair, looks up and right at my face, says nothing, and goes back to what he was doing. No one else was there but him so he was doing the role of receptionist as well. I took it upon myself to be the polite person and said hello. He then replied. I always come here and go to Angelo for my hair and style I went in yesterday and had a horrible experience with his staff. The receptionist is so rude and obnoxious it was crazy! I walked in and she said Angelo will be with you in a minute just have a seat. Nope she failed to mention that I would wait another 40 minutes because Angelo was just getting started with a full head of highlights with another customer. She could have called me and let me know they were running behind and to come in 40-45 minutes. Whatever, I got in Angelo started to color my hair and he apologized for the long wait time. There was another woman getting her hair shampooed with no mask. when it was my turn to get washed my mask came off for a few minutes. All of a sudden one of Angelo's rude employees (blonde lady with short curly hair) started yelling at me from across the room "Excuse me put on your mask"!!!! I said excuse me your client was getting shampooed you said nothing to her. For some reason it was perfectly ok for her client to not wear a mask but I couldn't go 3 minutes with out a mask without being yelled at. The esthetician overheard and started to yell at me too. I do like Angelo for my hair but I will not be returning because of the very unprofessional rude staff that work for him. read more

Be careful what you ask for at this salon. I was VERY specific about cutting only 1 to 1 1/2 inches, a "trim". D'Angelo took it upon himself to lop off almost 5 inches of my hair! I was so shocked that I payed my bill and walked out. After 4 years of working on growing my hair long... gone in 10 minutes. I will never go back to this salon and urge anyone considering to go there to be leery of D'Angelo's caviler attitude regarding what his customers want. read more

I've been going to Mary Mirakian since 2011 when she had her own salon, A Go Go. She has now joined Evoke Salon with her whole team from A Go Go. She knows how to cut curly hair or straight hair and make it look great. I had no idea I'd never had a good cut until I started going to her and suddenly my hair started to look terrific. It now just falls into place. She is also a wizard at color, even with resistant hair like mine. She is by far the best stylist I have ever had. I followed Olena to Evoke Salon and Spa and have been impressed and satisfied with all of her work. However, when I went in for an eyebrow waxing with Olena's substitute beauty technician, I felt obligated to share this review for sake of learning from mistakes, to warn (and to vent). She was very rough with my skin, even after commenting about how sensitive my skin is. She dropped wax on my eyelids and the hot wax also burned me under my brow. The only reason why I didn't complain was because they did look nice in the end and at that point I was just ready to leave. When she applied the soothing lotion it stung on the burns. When I asked her about it she told me these burns are coming from my acne medication- which is not true. I asked her if it was a burn and she said no but there is literally nothing else it could be. My whole experience today just makes me frustrated and annoyed because I know I will definitely come back for Olena but right now I'm not the biggest fan of this place. read more

I followed D'Angelo at two salons, and I'm thrilled he opened his own place. I have very long hair, and he's the first stylist I've had to really get layering it right- he blends so well, cuts cleanly, and gives a great blow-out that lasts for days. I have to say that I look forward to deep conditioning because he gives the beeesssst head massage. I ended up losing a lot of hair after having a baby, and I was practically in tears when I went to see him- he made me feel so much better and assured me he'd fix the front to hide some of the loss, but that we'd still be able to keep the length. His pricing is completely great, and although I haven't had highlights, I've seen his work on other women and they are so, so good- very natural and subtle. The space is great, clean, warm and calming. He's a friendly guy, easy to talk to, but also gets that sometimes I just want my magazine, coffee, and my own thoughts for the hour.
