A lot, I'll explain. I NEVER walk into a hair salon expecting miracles. I am a ballerina but I am horrible at styling and cutting my own hair, when such styling and maintenance is needed. Jona, the stylist and owner I believe, worked near- miracles on my hair. I left a lot to her discretion (as another reviewer wrote, I am not very decisive on my hair), and she did not disappoint. She explained what she was doing and demonstrated knowledge of her art; friendly and kind while focusing on her work. Ok- the hydrogen, helium and neon? They are all what are called 'noble gases' on the periodic table; like people, have pros and cons on their 'traits.' But my hair AFTER Jona dealt her magic and these noble gases: hydrogen is the lightest of the gases, and my hair felt fresh and light, not weighed down and dull; helium-- don't inhale it!-- but it is used in balloons; my hair had this floatability to it. Neon-- my hair felt effervescent and 'shiny,' but NOT in an artificial way. I felt wonderful. Those aficionados of 1980s music may remember 'Don't Get Me Wrong,' the Pretenders, 1986. . . 'I see neon lights/ whenever you walk by.' While in that case the neon lights are referring to another person-- I felt like a movie star . . .at least as long as Jona's haircut and style Lasted. :) Never mind that my own lack of skills with tresses meant that I could not maintain the look forever-- Jona did a great job. The salon is well-kept and organized; bright and well-lit but not gaudy. In very good taste. She is wonderful. Prices reasonable; certainly no more than elsewhere. I cut my hair elsewhere (shoutout to Vivian at Bloouts down the street who gives the BEST cuts), but find it easiest with timing to get blowouts here following my colors. Unfortunately, I've had trouble finding a good stylist for blowouts. I went to Kate for many years, but once showed up for family pictures with my daughter. She took a look at my daughter's curls and said she had no time in her busy schedule (at the very time of our appointment), which I thought was really wrong to do an hour before photos. My daughter rocked her beautiful curls for photos, but it left a bad taste in my mouth so 2 years ago I moved on to Ji for my own blowouts. During my most recent hair appt I was running a few minutes late and they expedited my glaze so that I wouldn't be too late for Ji. I went downstairs to find her and she was busy with a client so I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for her. Once she finished her client she rudely turned to me and she was out of time and would have to see me another time. After I complained they found me someone else, but the stylists really need to learn to stick to their schedules and work with the front desk if they need more time. I may continue to go here because I like Marissa, but if so it looks like I'm on the hunt once again for another stylist after color. I would love to walk down the streets to BloOuts, but difficult to time it right and walking in winter with wet hair isn't so fun.
