Butchered my hair! I went here for a trim since I didn't need anything complicated, and it seemed like a cheap and convenient place to go. Cheap, yes (haircut was $15), convenient? I ended up waiting an hour because there was only one person working and the other one went on break for a long time, even though there were tons of people waiting. Anyway, a wait isn't the end of the world, but the haircut! Ugh. I brought in a picture I always take with me that looks like my hair (long and layered) and asked the hairstylist to give me that cut--basically just take off about 2 inches everywhere but keep the layers. What she did is lop off about 8 inches, and cut in one giant layer that's at chin-level, then leave a long layer underneath. Basically, 'The Rachael' + a mullet. I was horrified when I saw how much hair was coming off, and when I gasped and said "It's so short! I think this is too short!" she said "I think you'll be happier with this cut." Um, really?? I'd actually be happier with the cut I asked for. There wasn't any way for her to fix things since she'd already cut off way too much hair, and I wasn't about to go even shorter. So now I'm stuck with a horrible haircut that looks like I did it myself with my eyes closed. If you're a dude and just need a cheap buzzcut, this place is probably dandy, but if you're a girl that wants someone who knows how to cut hair, RUN far, far away from this place. read more

I was pretty impressed with this Great Clips. When I walked in, it was 2 guys running the shop, which is a little surprising to me, but they did a very good job on my short conservative men's hair cut. They were nice and there was no wait. The shop is clean and modern. The prices are very reasonable I think ($13 or $14 for me). My only quibble is the parking -- there either is none or it's not obvious, and I forgot to ask. I try to go to places like this a few times before I review, but I just discovered Farzy Cuts in Redmond which is much closer to my house so I think I will be going there for awhile. So I've only been to this Great Clips once. The Great Clips in Park City, UT is also great. read more

Wow. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. This is the worst haircut I have ever had in my life. I walk in, its empty. Not a good sign. Laurel (VERY nice person, just a horrible stylist) did the honors. She took my hair down, we talked about what I wanted done, and simply started cutting. No wash. Just just cut straight across the bottom of my dry hair. I think she made about 5 sweeping cutting motions in the entire haircut. 4 across the bottom and one for my bangs. The length of my hair is okay, but its uneven. its longer in the front, there are fly away and longer pieces of that stick out the back. The bangs are horrible. They are uneven, not styled into my hair cut. I wish I could take a picture and post so you ladies can see how horrible this is and never make the same mistake I made. The only reason I went in here was because I had a ticket from the Sounders game on Sunday and you get a free haircut if they score 3 goals. Not worth it. I have an appointment at Vain downtown to fix this massacre. I'm always a bit skeptical, and occasionally I get as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs when walking into one of these establishments. Will I walk out looking like a clown only needing some balloons to twist? Or, will I walk out pleasantly surprised? And if I do leave pleasantly surprised, what are the chances that the person who last cut my hair will still be there when I get back? I saw a guy named Brian who has lived in Seattle for 23 years now and seems not to be going anywhere. He has worked at this location for 7 of the 8 years its been open. What I liked was that he entered some info into the computer, such as what number he used for the clipper on the side of my head. ("novel concept" why doesn't anyone else do that? Instead I have to try and remember....and no, I"m a guy...I shouldn't have to remember stuff like that). So kudos for that. And he got another kudos for not scalping me and doing what he was trained to do. HEY!...let's not make it sound so easy....just because someone is trained to do a job, doesn't mean they do it well. 40 years+ of getting haircuts, and this is by far the worst experience of my life! If you can somehow manage to understand a word that they are saying, you will realize that these hacks are being extremely rude and condescending. If you can somehow tolerate being talked down to as if you were a child, they will absolutely mangle your hair. I would have had better luck cutting my hair at home with broken mirror and a butter knife. After several attempts of explaining what I wanted done (all falling on deaf and nonchalant ears of course), I walked away frustrated and looking like I had just gotten a chop job done on the first day of boot camp. I'm assuming all the "stylists" here are just disgruntled for never having made it in a real salon and rather having to settle for a cheap, overrated chain salon that has a "turn and burn" mentality. I ended up going to another place (a more reputable one) just to get it fixed. I won't name it here as this is not an endorsement for another shop. I can't believe this place is still in business after so many years. What a joke. Do yourself a favor and go literally ANYWHERE else. We have been coming here for years. My young daughter and I checked in on line recently for cuts. She got hers right away. I was told that my wait was 45 minutes. I left and came back another day--a trip I'd rather not have made. My wife brought our teenager in last week. I checked them in with a wait time of 20 minutes. By the time they arrived, it was a 60 minute wait. And here we are today. I checked us in, arrived to a 0 minute wait time, then got my ass handed to me by the obnoxious hairdresser bc I logged him in as me (my account default) because that gave her the details for MY haircut, and that might confuse them. Once we got there she asked for my last name, I said I checked in online and I didn't think my last name was necessary, she refused to give us a haircut without last name!?!? Karin is a magician! I was a walk-in, greeted immediately, and Karin was able to take my appointment right away. She was funny and personable, and as I was describing my hair she nodded knowingly and began working. I was a little nervous because she seemed to assume what I wanted before I was done telling her, but it turns out that's because she DID know what I was asking to do! You can tell Karin has tons of experience and several tricks up her sleeve. She was also able to identify just how my hair grew out and clean it up without taking too much off the length. My bulky, shapeless, weighted bob was turned into a spunky, choppy, flattering bob in record timing. It took less than 10 minutes but came out perfectly. I promise, it sounds rushed but it definitely wasn't-- Karin is just that good at her craft! I could not have been more pleased with the level of service I received: from how welcomed I felt, to the quality of my haircut, and the speed at which it was completed. I would change the name to " Not so Great Clips". I realize it is a personal experience, but when you leave the place and everyone tells you that you will get used to it...... not a good sendoff. When you ask if she could work with a serious cowlick and she buzzes all the hair off... that is not a good solution. I am facing at least 4 months of the crown hair to grow out, and it will stand up straight and salute for those 4 months ! A very sweet young Lady stood behind me in a store and rushed to help me put my basket up, because she thought I have cancer and my hair is just growing out. Karin, the German woman, at Greenwood Great Clips is the best!!! I recently had 2 bad haircuts at the University Village Great Clips, so I decided to try the Greenwood Great Clips. Karin was able to quickly transform the terrible lines in my hair to lines that flowed with my hairs natural growth waves and felt great and looked effortlessly stylish! And after my haircut, while I was responding to a work email on my phone, I watched as she quickly transformed a 12 yr old boys hair from terrible to another effortlessly stylish cut. I will definitely have Karin cut my hair again and I'm going to bring my teen kids to her also. read more

Some of the less positive reviews are from a few years ago and I would just like to say first I am sorry for the less than exceptional service you received and that in the last 2 years we have gone through a management change and me, along with the manager Katie, have very selectively hired a staff who not just based on technical skill, but personality, I feel are amazing and love them all. We are growing on an average of 20% a month, and believe this is due to the amazing group of stylists we have.. We have a new feature that if you have an Android or iPhone you can download our App or from your home computer check what our wait times are and put your name on the wait list. It's very convenient so you can save your spot in line without having to come all the way to the store. My one disclaimer is that even if it says its a zero minute wait, STILL PUT YOUR NAME DOWN!!! We know that Scotty can't beam us up yet, but in the,"Oh I'm just right up the street," time 5 people could walk in. The computer will hold your spot up to an hour after your estimated wait times. We ask for basic information like your name and phone number just for the simple fact that we keep notes on how we cut your hair. Your Clips Notes are a very essential tool so that any stylist in the salon can duplicate the fabulous haircut you previously received. We do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with your phone number. Other Great Clips don't even have it. If still you don't want to give it, we can always look you up by last and first name. Really went down hill after new management came in. I went for a basic trim and to clean up my layers, which is simple enough that I usually get great results from budget haircut chains. The lady asked if I want a shampoo, I said no. She then told me she was going to wet my hair in the sink. Strange as they usually use a spray bottle, but I complied. She ended up shampooing and charging me for what I clearly said NO for. I feel like I was tricked into getting that done. It turned into a nightmare when she got me into the salon chair. I have hip length hair and she proceeds to brush my wet, now tangled hair from top to bottom in single motions. You could hear strands of hair snapping and ripping from my scalp. It took everything not to cry. Then she trimmed straight across the bottom with no layering. So I am left with severely damaged hair and a shoddy cut. I don't know how she got a license to work in a salon. The hair towel she used to dry my hair also smelled TERRIBLE. Its apparent it wasn't washed well or at all between customer. I wish I was bold enough to stand up and run out of there sooner. read more

I'm not a big a Yelper. I can't say that I have much to say about service or experiences at places. I think about what I want to say, but often times I just think it, rehearse the writing in my head and keep it to myself, thinking my review away. BUT, when the moment is right and worth it, I write. And today, today, today, I love Great Clips. I have very thick, long hair, and I sometimes feel like I didn't even get a haircut because it looks the same. Cut two inches, still looks the same. BUT, and I use this word loosely, today, just for today, I am grateful about Great Clips and Nicole, who made my experience a positive one. I told her what I needed, and guess what, she LISTENED. She heard me. She was humble and sincere and patient. When she was done, I still was not "feeling" like I got a haircut. So, I told her what I needed again. AND AGAIN, she heard me. She listened. She said ok. Let's try this. She patiently let me go through the haircut process. after that go-around, she said "how do you feel?" I said, still, I am not feeling it. I pointed to my issue, and she said "I think I know what you are talking about. I think the feeling you are having is about this, and I think I can fix that by doing this." I said, "ok, let's try it." And, we did, and guess what! I felt like I got a haircut. I felt like she heard me. I felt like great things can even happen in a Great Clips. Nicole was awesome. Worst haircut experience of my life. The woman was rude from the get to. Once seated she proceeded to make my comb my own hair then criticized me for how I did it. She made no effort to supply me with decent customer service. And didn't even add in the coupon I gave her when I was paying. Absolutely terrible. I was hesitant.... oh so hesitant! I'm relatively picky about where I get my haircut but after having three terrible haircuts in a row from three different places I THOUGHT would do a good job, I decided I would let Yelp make my decision. Great Clips certainly didn't disappoint! First of all, the space is very clean! And bright! Always good things! I walked in and was in a chair under 1 minute! Gotta love fast service! There was just enough "small talk" to avoid awkward silences. Not enough to be tedious! The cut was $15. Not too shabby. Best of all.... it looks pretty good! People seem to like the cut, I've gotten more compliments on it than the past few haircuts I've gotten, and it's very close to what I wanted. I'm happy with the results and even happier with the cost! The past few haircuts I've had have been $50 at the least and have grown out poorly, been uneven, and weren't really what I wanted. Definitely won't be heading back here any time soon. I think I am quickly becoming very pessimistic when it comes to haircuts, but this place definitely takes the cake as well. First, the discussion got to talking about how UPS and PLU are full of kids that come with money and don't understand life and work. As a PLU grad myself and one that came from a very small farming city in Eastern Washington, definitely took offense to the type of discussion they were having. Granted they never knew my background, but in a workplace it may not be the best discussion. As for the haircut, the individual constantly complained about how her feet hurt, but will do one more before a break. Welp, I was the second customer after her statement of her break. Which definitely made me excited to plop down in her chair and get a haircut. I asked for a very simple haircut, as I planned on going for a 2nd cut about three weeks from now before a vacation in Europe to get a better styling/texturize a bit. After asking for finger length on top and a 3 on the sides. I received a buzz cut all around, with her just eyeing the length on top (and hoping for the best?). The left side of my head was pretty close to finger length though extremely uneven. The right side, well about .5" on average longer than the left side. It was even visibly obvious based on how the hair flattened. She asked how it looked, and at that point I already regretted coming in and with her complaining about her feet, obviously rushing to get me out, and using the chair to lean up against during the cut. It was time to say, 'looked good' and just get out of there. My own buzz cut in the shower turned out better (even on the sides, it cut way more hair than it should have). Lesson learned and definitely realize that you get what you pay for even more so than before. Hoping in three weeks I can still get something good before my vacation. I will definitely be heading back to where I got my haircut prior to moving out of Seattle. read more

I can see why she has repeat business and a fan base. I had 5" cut off and my boyfriend didn't notice. I went to Great Clips several months ago and met with a young hair stylist and explain in great detail of how I wanted my hair cut and also not to short due to I was cancer patient that lost my hair to chemotherapy. She seem to understand what services I requested and asked for a shampoo due to I had a lot of production in it. The stylist stated that I didn't need my hair shampoo and continue to comb it out. Which she couldn't and I ended up combing it out. She went right into cutting my without analyzing it and was copping my hair that was short. I stopped her and explain it was getting short I felt scared . she didn't hear a word I said and went on cutting it shorter and again I stop her and she stated that's it and she done cutting and walk away into the back room . left me sitting their and worst the other hair stylist asked if she was okay and no concern for me the customer's. Instead of her providing support or understanding my fear and how scared I was she walks away. I was horrified, humiliated, and embarrassed. I feel that instead of her walking away and the other hair stylist should of taken responsibilities to find a positive solution's and consulting with me to see what they can provided to fix the situation. Where is their code of ethics in this salon reassure the client that you have their best interests at heart, and establish the salon as a reputable professional place of business. The hair stylist work for Great Clips hair salon instead it seem that Great Clip hair salon works for them the way I was treated. read more

Impressed that she took the time to track me down and figure out it was us who had a bad experience (have to assume she saw the yelp review). She asked if there was anything they could do and I requested that they pay our out-of-pocket costs for the emergency room visit and stitches. She immediately agreed to do. She mentioned that she is a relatively new owner of this business and is clearly trying to provide excellent customer service. Have not yet received our medical bills and forwarded them to her, but assume that she will make good on her promise to take care of this. Doing the right and honorable thing -Great way to run a business! I wish them every success. read more

I've been going to this Great Clips for a little while, because it's closest to where I live, but more often than not I leave disappointed. The customer service is subpar, and the "stylists" try to rush you in and out with as little attention paid to the haircut as possible. The last time I went, it took literally less than 10 minutes total, and the stylist left my haircut patchy and incomplete. I had to come home and finish the job. I tried this haircut spot during my break because I received one free haircut from a sounders game. Thought it would be a simple haircut but they butchered it. At first the tapered it nicely but only on one side and then when I went back in the afternoon to fix it, the lady totally buzzed the short side (not the long one), ruining the tapered look and making it so it looks like I'm bald on my left side. I've had my hair cut here probably a dozen times, and I've never really had a bad experience until now. Typically the haircuts range from ok to maybe above average, but this time it was pretty bad. The stylist that cut my hair (Mario) made a pretty glaring mistake -- there was a very noticeable chunk missing towards the back of my head where he must've slipped with the trimmer or something. I didn't notice it before I left because I didn't look over it closely since I'd never had a bad experience before and I was a bit pressed for time. However, I did notice it once I got home, and I can tell you that there is NO WAY it could've gone unnoticed by the stylist; that is, if he was paying even the slightest attention to what he was doing to my hair. The fact that he didn't offer to show the back with his extra mirror like pretty much every other barber will do makes me strongly suspect that he knew he messed up. Now, the mistake is a bit upsetting, but understandable -- they're bound to happen from time to time -- but what is VERY upsetting and inexcusable in my opinion is that the stylist just let it slide as if nothing were wrong. I am in the service industry as well, and if I make a mistake, I let the customer know and offer a way to make it right. That was not the case here, and as I said, the mistake was pretty noticeable. Granted, I should have done a more thorough check of my hair before I left (and you can bet that I will in the future), but it still shows a lack of integrity or sense of customer satisfaction or whatever you want to call it for the stylist to just pretend a mistake didn't happen until / if the customer notices. I'm not going to give up on the place just yet, because like I said, they usually do at least a decent job. However, I will definitely be going with a different stylist in the future. ***UPDATE***: I've since had another less than desirable haircut here. I won't be going back. read more

They cut hair here. Do they do it well? I guess that's totally debatable. In the current state of economic crunch, paying more than $20.00 for a haircut every 6-7 weeks is not only really stupid, it just sounds painful. I have been to many a 'half-ass' hair salon (please see Supercuts, Hair Masters, et al) over the past 15 years or so, and even stepped up to get a normal haircut at an actual barber shop for years as well. Fact is, I seem to go somewhere until the screw my hair up. That's usually good for about 5-7 visits. Typically speaking, these 'chop shops' for hair burn through "stylists" faster than these stylists blow their paychecks on meth. This particular Great Clips has been pretty good! The staff has remained fairly long-tenured, and the three folks whom I usually see do a good job and are detail-oriented...which--believe me--is an accomplishment for most cookie-cutter hair joints like this. I would usually never recommend a place like this, but I have been impressed with the Great Clips in Greenwood. Now, I should mention that this is a man-specific review. You know, one of those guys who really isn't looking to go out and get an unnecessarily over-priced hair cut. And I really don't know too many women who go to these places, so my experience is definitely temered towards the 20-30 something guy who gets the same haircut nearly everytime in. It all depends on the stylist as with any other place, but it's so inconsistent between them. Mario (1 star) has butchered my hair on 2 occasions (I gave him a chance to redeem himself, but FAIL!)... I don't know how, because I have a super simple cut that I request. I could probably cut my own hair better with a blindfold on. Katherine/Katie?(5 stars) did a great job this last time. I just recently visited your salon. I am very particular about style and color and spoiled going to the 'Salon 7' in Downtown Seattle.Sadly the store went recently out of business. Since I reside in North Seattle I spontaneously decided to visit 'Great Clips'. Karin was my stylist that day. I was not only impressed about her expertise and knowledge choosing the perfect cut that fits and compliments my facial features but her friendly,professional and joyful demeanor. What I take away from this experience is,' It doesn't matter what salon you go too, but it matters to find the perfect stylist that fits your needs'. My boyfriend just went here tonight and got his hair cut by an older woman with a Russian or Ukrainian accent. DO NOT see her!!!!!!! Worst service we have ever gotten in my life. It was 15-20 minutes before closing but so WHAT you still have a job to do, you are still open, and you should treat customers with respect!!!!!! As a construction worker when I walk into a barber shop and see three or four people I'm ok with the expected wait time. Then while I'm waiting three or four more people enter and are called up in front of me because their little limber wrists had the time to call in on-line.
