Outside / Exterior of shop - loads of convenient lot parking right behind shop or close-by walkable street parking in old town downtown
    I C.

Updating my outdated review...but nothing to really update because Great Harvest remains a favorite local, small business bread and baked goods shop. We loved this place when we first tried it decades ago (!!) and still love it to this day. Consistently deliciously amazing breads. CLOSED SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS but most other days open early at 8AM. If you can go on a weekday, it's so easy (if you're local to downtown old town Herndon) to just pop in and out. Parking is plentiful - either in their (small) lot behind their shop or really anywhere on the street or side streets that are easy-peasy walkable to the shop. Their specialty flavor bread selections rotate - their website has their monthly calendar of offerings (I posted a sample menu pic for this month along with a few other pics I took when I stopped in this week.) During the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, you'll find classic seasonal favorites. We love their Sourdough and their Apple Scrapple. YUM. Prices are very reasonable for wholesome, all natural, freshly baked bread and goodies. And the staff has ALWAYS been super friendly and helpful - they have a lot of young people working there. They're always happy to hand out free bread samples. This time around, we thought we'd try their cinnamon roll - we bought the giant roll instead of the 4 smaller roll pack and found that the icing was wayyyyyyyyyy tooooooooooo sweet and sugary. And the roll was undercooked and doughy throughout. We were hoping for something closer to Cinnabon which is the standard bearer of cinn rolls let's be honest - so we were a bit disappointed. Would not recommend unless you like overglazed sickly sweet icing that overpowers the (undercooked) roll. :( We will stick with their signature breads which are worth the trip in. You'll be hooked. What a treat!

Came for the first time, on a friend's recommendation. Purchased rye bread (sourdough) to make sandwiches with our left over St. Pats corned beef. I tasted it, and it's so good. Dense yet soft, with a great crust and fantastic rye flavor. Perfect for our sandwiches. Also picked up a chocolate chip cookie and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The choc chip was very good. The oatmeal raisin was the BEST cookie, of any kind, I've ever had. Perfect texture and so flavorful. Good thing I don't live real close to this bakery.

We passed by on our way to the Herndon tree lighting and made a plan to come back before the holidays for a treat. We bought a loaf of cinnamon chip for Christmas Eve French toast and 2 stollens as gifts. The French toast tasted like a cinnamon roll! They have a punch card for each loaf you buy. I like that they rotate the menu each month and day of the week. I can't wait to try more breads! This is definitely one of our new local go-tos.

Want good bread? Want food that is good for your health? Then look no further than Great Harvest Bread company! Let me explain why in two reasons. First, I have done by due diligence and visited their store multiple times and tasted various products with the same result...delicious and most importantly no harmful after effects like lethargy, bloating, or feeling weighed down after eating. Second, my business is centered around cellular nutrition where I study the nutrition content of foods and effects on the body and the fresh breads loaves they serve check out. I found them, because I am frequently visit the DC area to visit family and was looking for a great source of grain products for my kids and found it with Great Harvest. Here you can literally have your cake and eat it too. PS...with a busy family, visiting, and not having all the time in the world I have found they also have a service to get their great products shipped to your front door. A happy customer.

We were in the area and decided to pay this bakery a visit. So many yummy smells coming from here. Employees are incredibly friendly and helpful. They offer free samples as well near the cashier. There were plenty of options here and you can't really go wrong with anything from Great Harvest Bread. Their breads and baked goods are excellent and make great gifts. We got a bunch of goodies from here and our friends and family loved them. So glad we paid this location a visit.

Small corner shop in the Herndon area. They have multiple parking spots, but it can be a bit crowded. As you enter, they have loafs of bread where they offer large free samples. I notice they get locals in the area, where they already know what they want. Overall cute bakery shop.

    Thanksgiving stuffing bread! Amazing!

I ordered an almond milk latte and the avocado toast without feta. The avocado toast was SO good, the avocado tasted really fresh and they used the perfect amount of balsamic vinegar. Also loved that they had packets of hot sauce available. My son got a bagel with cream cheese and my partner got a bagel with butter and jam plus a chai latte. Only note is that the bagel came with a ton of cream cheese, so if you don't like it piled on, I'd recommend asking for light cream cheese. Overall we really loved it and would definitely come back when we're in the area again!

The decor makes you think of what you'd find at an eccentric great aunt's home, but in a positive way. Each area has its own mini aesthetic that contributes to the entire place; in the back are color themed books that give it a more serious look, while upstairs is more whimsical in it's random assortment of chairs and couches. The food is in appealing display cases downstairs. The stand out pastries for me are the tiramisu filled cronuts. Drinks wise, they have the typical cafe fare but excitingly so they also have Colombe on draft which I will always be excited about. I recommend this place to grab a snack and socialize!

The Brownie double chocolate cookie is hands-down my favorite and tastes like a fudgy brownie. The dark chocolate chips just melt! The Classic Chocolate Chip cookie was a bit too sweet and tastes like a sugar cookie with chocolate chips. I wasn't a fan of the Cookies and Cream Oreo cookie. The Cina-Cookie tastes like a buttery Snickerdoodle cookie with cream cheese filling. The Birthday Bash cookie was fun to try, but quite sweet and loaded with sugar. Highly recommend warming up the cookies in the microwave for 20-30 sec, they soften up and taste like they were just baked with that delicious ooey gooey texture. The chocolate chips just melt in your mouth! If you get delivery, the cookies are stone cold. Delivery takes 2-3 days after placing an order, even local shipping takes a full day. While it was fun to try the 4 pack of cookies with delivery, it was just too much and I was on a serious sugar overload. It would be nice to have an option to only get a set of 2 cookies with delivery. The cookies just don't taste as good cold even with reheating and it's better just to get the cookies at the shop. Will stop by for the Chocoholic double chocolate when I'm in the area. Happy to support this small NOVA business!

PLEASE NOTE: This was for nationwide shipping…read more It had been a while since I had ordered from MidnighTreats, but after a 36 hour snowstorm the winter blues had officially settled into my soul and I needed a little pick-me-up. Important reminders: each MidnighTreats cookie weighs over 1/3 pound! They're enormous, and for sure big enough to split (... to share, sure, or just to enjoy yourself later; they even recommend cutting them in half before freezing them [if they last that long]). PRO TIP: you *have* to reheat them before eating them (otherwise the flavor/taste/texture just isn't the same). Build your own box for currently $30 ($20 plus $10ish for shipping), and some of the flavors change each month. We've tried... + Birthday Bash (funfetti rainbow sprinkles cookie): personally, I like the nostalgic flavor of generic "birthday cake" that's recently become a thing, and I think they do a fantastic job capturing it! + Strawberry Shortcake (shortcake cookie smothered in strawberry icing): This was the taste of summer I needed. So bright! Just the right amount of sweet! And they definitely didn't hold back on the icing! +/- The Classic (a blend of dark and semi-sweet chocolate chips): compared to other vegan chocolate chip cookies that can be shipped to your home, this one's actually one of the better ones! +/- The Chocoholic (fudgy double chocolate chip cookie): you have to REALLY, REALLY like/be craving chocolate for this one. - Cookies N Cream (oreo bits with chocolate chips and vanilla chips): this one was just okay, and I take the blame for missing that it contained white chocolate chips which I am not a fan of. It says they're vanilla, but that's not what they taste like to me. - The Cinna-Roll: I believe the recipe for this one has changed over the years, because it used to be a cinnamon roll flavored cookie with cream in the center (and there was *barely* any of it, making it a very dry, very boring cookie). It seems it's now a cinnamon roll cookie smothered in vanilla icing, so I just wanted to make sure I had corrected info here. Other things of note: they've donated thousands of dollars to animal sanctuaries across the country! they've planted close to 20K trees with reforestation projects! they've donated thousands to local schools and shelters in their NOVA community! How can you not love a company who's built in giving back to their community in their core principles?!

We had them later that evening and we were quite impressed with them. They were moist and flavorful. In fact, we think they had improved since we last tried them. Since we liked them so much, we decided to visit the store in Herndon and get some more. The "server" (that's what the sales clerks are called) in Sterling gave me a punch card when I bought the cakes there so I remembered to use it at the Herndon store. My first impression of the Herndon place was very positive. It was very clean and well laid out. To me, it had a very welcoming vibe. The server, Katerine, was very friendly, patient and helpful. She let me know that since I was buying at least 4 bundtlets, I would get a free insulated bag that held up to 6 bundtlets. I ended up buying 3 lemon ones, 2 red velvet and 1 classic vanilla. She was sure to update my punch card. Then she told me that if I filled out a survey that was mentioned on the receipt, I would get a coupon for 1 free bundtlet. Once I was home, I did just that. Also, I signed up for their "eClub" which gives you a free bundtlet on your birthday. All in all, a great shopping experience that had me leaving with a smile on my face. The bundtlets here are just as good as the ones in Sterling. So...it goes without saying that we'll be back for more!
